DESCRIPTION
Ritual Combat was an integral part of the Thyrsian Way of Life. Much like their Genetic Cousins, the Echani, the Scions of Thyrsus expressed themselves - fully - when embraced in the throes of Conflict. In many ways, it was one of their primary means of communication. However, unlike their Genetic Cousins, the Thyrsians didn’t fit unarmed or unarmoured. They believed in adorning themselves in heavy armour, and wielding blades as extensions of their arms. It’s believed that this preference for armour came from the twinfold belief of training the body to be stronger by shouldering the heavy burden, and inspiring a warrior to reach greater heights of glory - safeguarded by the knowledge that their armour would protect them. If that was true or not, the Scions of Thyrsus couldn’t truly say, for it was a belief that was baked into their very culture since the very beginning of recorded history. When it came to bladed weapons, the Thyrsians believed in the lessons taught by the edge of a sword. That the blade was to be an extension of one’s being, an elongated arm to be used in the defense of one’s self, or in the aid of others.

However, such nobility wasn’t always at the core of their beliefs. A blade, more often than not, always has two-sides. Thus, whilst one side may be used in the defense of the self or others, the opposite would be used to take life - to sever one’s mortal coil. The duality of their weapons, reflected the duality of their near-human nature, and the twinned suns that orbited their homeworld.

The Solar Pike was once considered to be the perfect embodiment of their spiritual beliefs. But, as one can imagine, the weapon didn’t age well in the centuries after being introduced, and was nearly forgotten after the generations of enslavement that were inflicted upon Thyrsus. Thus, those Solar Pikes that managed to survive the decades of cultural oppression, found themselves being rebuilt and upgraded to match the phoenician nature of their collective species. The first thing that changed was the appellation that was attached to the weapon, as a Pike was considerably larger in size. So, they called it a Glaive instead, as the overall design resembled an edged weapon affixed to a pole. Naturally, as the weapon was dual-sided the Solar Glaive didn’t officially fit the traditional definition - there was bound to be some controversy amongst weapon experts and historians alike. The Sun Guard, and the Thyrsians there after, likely wouldn’t care so long as the weapon was effective.

To ensure its effectiveness, the Solar Glaive was outfitted in a manner similar to it’s spiritual predecessor and the Xiphos Plasmatic Vibrosword. Like the other Thyrsians weapons that came before, the edges of the blade were forged with mullinine, an alloy that allowed the weapon to hold its edge for longer than more traditional metallic substances. In addition to mullinine, the Solar Glaive was outfitted with a two-fold system that generated a plasmatic edge, and allowed that Plasma to engulf the entirety of the blade - forging a mockery of the Lightsabres borne into battle by the Jedi and their Darker Ilk. As one would expect, that projected plasma field - which would resemble coruscating arcs of lightning, or solar flares dancing across the surface of the Sun. This contained plasmatic field would significantly enhance the blades cutting power - especially when combined with the capabilities of the ultrasonic vibration generator, as the plasma would superheat the targeted material whilst seemingly gliding through pillars of hardened duracrete.

What made the Solar Glaive truly unique was the hooked bill-like design, and it’s ability to bifurcate into two separate weapons that were, and could be attached with a cortosis-infused fibrecord connection cable. This allowed the wielder to adapt to whatever situation they found themselves in, and to the various aspects of Thyrsian Martial Arts. Thus, the Solar Glaive would soon become the premiere melee armament among the Scions of Thyrsus, and the greatest amongst them all - the Sun Guard.
