Skirmish Skirmish on Florn

Sɪᴛʜ Mᴜsᴛ ʙᴇ Vᴀɴǫᴜɪsʜᴇᴅ

K'krohl didn't glance back to check if they were behind him. He was prepared to proceed alone if necessary, as the sound of boots through the wet mud informed him that the assault team was right behind him. He maintained a steady stride, skillfully stepping over slippery logs that could have caused a less observant man to stumble.

His eyes scanned the shadows of the nearby trees though not in search of people but for the movement of the local wildlife that had been watching them since their arrival. When the recon droid's data pinged his vambrace, he signaled a halt with a closed fist as he acknowledged Braze Braze willingness to play distraction but shook his head in disapproval of such a needless sacrifice.

He looked down at the tactical display glowing on his forearm, then flicked a glance at the Mandalorians. "Mandalorian Squad Leader," he murmured into the comms towards Saram Kote Saram Kote , his voice adopting a low tone to maintain secrecy.

"See if you can find any weak points in the foundation of the archive. If they are damaged from the Sith's infighting then we may have a chance to crumble the structure without setting foot inside." He cut the link before she could talk back. He didn't need a verbal confirmation that they would proceed as ordered, since now was not the time to argue about hierarchy.

He turned his gaze toward Shem Spinner Shem Spinner and the young Rishi's persistence with the Force-visions continued to fill the air. K'krohl let out a dismissive huff but tried to adopt the tone of a seasoned Jedi Master to give an appropriate response.

"If you want to relay every flicker of a shadow, go ahead," K'krohl said, with a hand gesture in their direction. Moving his other hand to pull down a branch and toss it aside to cover up their tracks from the stealth shuttles hidden behind them.

"I will simply ask that you keep focus on the dirt in front of your feet and the weight of that pack on your back. If you're wrong, we all die a horrible death. If you're right, then you are simply doing what needs to be done in order to complete this mission." He didn't want to outright scorn the Rishi for simply following his force-based talent but made sure to reaffirm his point that they needed him in the present and not the future if they were to survive on this horrible planet.

He glanced up into the canopy where Jonyna Si Jonyna Si sat, then down toward Novac Lyrikal Novac Lyrikal , who was standing still, processing the world around them through his heat-sensing pits. He nodded once at the pair of them, acknowledging their presence without needing to say a word. Their natural instincts would serve them well in this type of environment.

"Jonyna, Novac. I want you two to proceed ahead of us to ensure the pathway is clear. We want to avoid any nesting grounds." K'krohl crouched behind a rot-thickened root, the obsidian wall of the Archives looming twenty paces ahead. The structure was scarred by the recent conflict, and he could feel the unnatural corruption of the place rattling in his teeth.

Hydra listened to the two Sith Lords bicker and withheld an internal sigh, his expression showing nothing. Such is the way of the Sith. While they were stronger together, even when they had a mutually beneficial circumstance with each other, they couldn't help at the very least bicker if not outright turn on each other. It was something to keep in mind for the duration of however long they were together. These people could be useful, but it would be dangerous to trust them. Though right now Hydra was more concerned with tedious bickering going nowhere than treachery.

Hydra nodded to SL-0182 SL-0182 . He was unfamiliar with Saaraishash Slatesi Assets, but since making the acquaintance of CT-312 CT-312 , Hydra had adjusted his perspective on military assets. They could be quite useful and if CT 312 was anything to go by fairly amusing as well.

"If we can utilise the world's natural predators to our benefit then we should do so." Hydra turned to Darth Morta Darth Morta . "Have you acquired enough lore to satisfy yourself? Please understand I share your opinion that the knowledge preserved here should continue to be of use to the Sith and truthfully I do not mind which Sith benefits from it. I am perfectly content for that Sith to be you. Truthfully I am more interested in fostering good relations amongst fellow Sith than any archaic knowledge."

Hydra addressed Canm-Bulnu Bi Canm-Bulnu Bi .

"I think the assets suggestion is a good one. I shall attempt to commune with the world natural predators."

Hydra sat down cross legged, began Sith meditating. Fortunately the Sith archives was immersed in the dark side of the force, fuelling Hydra harnessing of it. Hydra's face and tentacles began to twitch in obvious anger. For Hydra Sith meditation was about using your anger to fuel your desires. Right then Hydra focused his desires on reaching out with the Force. He identified a large pack of Vornskr in the nearby brush. Hydra touched upon their minds, they recoiled in shock, Hydra sent them pain. They yelped, writhed and spasmed, Hydra smirked. Stoking their anger Hydra identified the scent of the strike team from their ship. Hydra then sent an image of puppies being held in the archive whining, delicately Hydra weaved the association in their minds of the scent of the strike team, the pain and the image of their puppies being held in the archives. The Vornskr howled, launching themselves after the strike team.

If your presence draws fire, you will keep that fire away from those planting the charges. That is your role.

A natural selection the Zakuulan would have made himself. If they were the hammer that shattered the Sith presence, he was both the shield and the anvil that the enemy would break upon. His ego was not getting the way of any such assignment, it was non-existent. Aurelian was here to destroy an archive holding knowledge of the Force, today it was a Sith archive, and that meant he would fight alongside Jedi and Lightsiders - even if he detested their allegiance to malevolence and ignorance even more than the reckless stupidity that drove Sith.

But as they would say - balance was important. And the Sith stood too strong.

Without further comment he fell in, drawing his large blade and unholstering his heavy blaster pistol, the latter humming in an archaic, deep noise as its coils heated up, giving off a slight orange hue. His helmet's sensors and scanners relayed the information in real time to his brain as they slowly made their way forward.

Battle marks, signs of fights were around the compound, showing the recently fought power struggle within the walls. Reckless stupidity. Sith had no measure nor purpose for their ambitions and lust for power, which made them self-destructive. Few exceptions were able to extend their strength and power far beyond the natural life span of common Dark side lickspittels, but there was no permanence. He knew why. Those around him probably believed they knew why.

He briefly wondered if the Mandalorian had been paid for this.

Instead his attention fell to the only one whos presence had an ounce of familiarity. "You were once an Imperial Knight." He said from next to Kinoan Kinoan far too low to echo above the footsteps of those around. It was a statement towards the man as much as a question to Aurelian himself. For someone like him to be loyal for centuries, it felt difficult to understand the changing of paths or courses.

Kinoan's gaze shifted from the muddy path ahead to the armor-clad individual.

"That is true."

Much emotion was hidden behind the man's mask. Most of his time spent as a warrior, whether it be Jedi, Imperial Knight, or wanderer, had been spent wearing facial covering. There was never a real meaning behind it. But perhaps with the passing of time, it had developed one on its own. The matter-of-fact tone offered by the hulking man did not phase Kinoan. Rather, he took it as an opportunity to clear any preemptive misconceptions that were being carried.

"The Empire lost its vision after the destruction of the Sith Empire. Rather than rebuild the galaxy into something magnificent, they turned on the only ally they ever had."

Brief flashes of repressed memories began to creep into his mind but were quickly stifled once more. This had become common practice.

"The path was one that I would no longer follow. The Light needed to flare, not dim."

Up ahead, the archive began to emerge from the thicket. The time was nigh for their strike. Closing his eyes for a brief moment, the Knight gathered a sense of his surroundings through the Force. He was grateful that his vessel landed on the planet early, giving him time to meditate and understand the aura of this place. Through the Force, he was no longer noticeable as a presence of the Light. He was now indistinguishable from the foes of the Dark, a skill taught to him by Romi Jade Romi Jade during his time spent on Jakku.

Looking towards Garern Bulmeed Garern Bulmeed , he awaited further instructions before the strike.

A familiar presence entered Braze's sphere of Force-enhanced perception, and he paused, head tilting slightly as though trying to listen past the noise of the group's movement. The sounds were oddly familiar… too familiar. They reminded him of Kujo, but there was... distinctly more than one of them he could sense.

A whole pack of Kujos.... That did not bode well.

His gaze shifted to Kinoan Kinoan , then toward the direction of the approaching beasts.

"We've got furry company headed our way… very likely Vornskr," he said, having become quite accustomed to the sensation of being stalked by Kujo after spending so much time training Okuma's pet in the Mandalorian's absence.

Braze turned to face the direction of the incoming pack,.

"Hey, former Imperial Knight," he called, glancing back to Kinoan Kinoan . "You want to lend a hand and deal with them?"

Canm's lightsaber flared to life, the crimson light bouncing off the damp walls around him. His eyes locked onto the shimmering space where the Saaraishash asset SL-0182 SL-0182 had just materialised out of thin air. An annoyed expression settled across his leathery face at the prospect of yet another fool joining their little gathering just to debate strategy while the clock was ticking.

He didn't care about the asset's eerie smile or her robotic titles, but as she spoke, her suggestion about using the local fauna made some tactical sense given that they did not know the enemy's overall strength. It was better than listening to Darth Morta Darth Morta drag her feet. Canm deactivated his blade with a low hiss, clipping it back to his armor.

He glanced over at Darth Hydra Darth Hydra who had already dropped into a cross-legged position on the dirt-streaked floor, his face and tentacles twitching as he began to use his mystical arts to commune with a pack of Vornskr out in the brush. "Do what you have to do, sorcerer," Canm grunted, not hiding his skepticism.

He preferred a less mystical approach to solving their problem. Leaving the academic to his mental games, the Weequay turned on his heel and walked toward the front entrance of the archives, his boots thudding hard against the stone floor. The humid, rotten stench of the Florn jungle hit him instantly, mixed with the faint scent of the structure behind him.

Reaching the threshold, Canm looked out into the dense, tangled canopy. He could hear the distant, unnatural howling of the Vornskr as Hydra's mental manipulation took root, but the deeper jungle remained entirely too quiet for his liking. Canm planted his boots firmly onto the fractured stone of the entryway.

He extended a gloved hand toward a massive, collapsed pile of masonry and jagged river rocks sitting just outside the doors. The dark side gathered around him, a dull weight fueling his physical strength as he gripped the heavy stones through the Force. With a heave, he ripped the entire stack of rocks from the dirt and hurled them deep into the thickest parts of the forest.

The heavy stones crashed through the dense foliage, snapping thick branches and smashing into the trunks of ancient trees with loud, explosive thuds. The sudden, violent racket echoed across the valley, instantly shattering the jungle's silence. Birds screeched as they broke from the canopy, and the rustling of agitated shapes moving through the undergrowth grew louder as the native Lamproids were stirred from their nesting grounds.

Braze's voice filtered through her buy'ce's speakers as she saw the Vornskrs on the drones' vid feed. " Braze Braze is right, Vornskr, approaching fast," she said to the others over comms. She suddenly remembered Okuma Milogen Okuma Milogen 's that Braze had adopted. That other the last few timers she'd been back on base were the few times she'd seen anywhere remotely this close.

The drones' however, had more than just the Vornskr in visual view, using their magnified optics through spread around the Dar'jetii archive. The place had certainly seen better days, that much was for sure. The whole place was pockmarked by blaster fire and kinetic round impacts. That was when she saw it, a particularly carbon scored blown out firing hole that just jutted out from above ground level.

"Those Vornskr can't track us," stated as the footage from the drones was no doubt relayed to his HUD. There was a degree of a lack of surety in Ran's tone, he was hoping that was the case. Their beskar'gam's ABC scramblers weren't going to make their scent, if they even left any, quite possible to follow.

"I sure as shab hope not, because I just found our way inside," she said as she raised Garern Bulmeed Garern Bulmeed on tightbean laser comms, "Jedi, there looks to be some structural damage that we can use to gain egress," she said, forwarding the footage from that particular drone over the same connection. She already had a feeling she knew what he was going to say. In preparation for such, she ordered Davaab forward to close distance between them and the Dar'jetii structure.

K'krohl didn't slow, even as the warnings from Braze and the Mandalorians flared across his vambrace. He trusted his own senses more than the jittery nerves of the others. He moved with heavy, his boots barely making a sound despite the treacherous mud.

"Braze, handle the beasts," he grunted over the comms to Braze Braze and Kinoan Kinoan , his voice steady. "Kinoan, support him. Don't let them pin you. We stay on the objective." He glanced at the feed Saram Kote Saram Kote pushed to his vambrace. The breach in the foundation was perfect, exactly the kind of instability a controlled demolition could exploit.

He keyed a response to her, a single burst of acknowledgment, then shut the link down. He didn't need to babysit the Mandalorians; they knew their trade. The forest seemed to hold its breath for a split second, a stillness that pricked at the back of his neck. His connection to the Force flared, a warning that arrived just as the air itself seemed to shudder. He didn't have time to process the source.

Massive boulders, torn from the Archive's own walls came screaming through the canopy like projectiles from the unseen hand of Canm-Bulnu Bi Canm-Bulnu Bi as he threw his weight to the right, but the sheer size of the debris wave left him no clean exit. A hunk of black stone caught him in the shoulder, the impact sending him spinning through the dense underbrush like a ragdoll.

He crashed into a thick, thorny thicket, the air driven from his lungs, his vision swimming in a haze of red. He didn't lose consciousness despite the blood loss, as he rolled into a standing position. Warm blood tracked a path down his cheek, dripping off his jaw and soaking into his fur.

He spat a mouthful of bile and dirt, his hand snapping to the hilt of his lightsaber. He thumbed the ignition, the blade humming to life with a defiant, azure hiss that cut through the jungle gloom.

"Mandalorian," he growled into the vambrace, his voice laced with blood. "They're throwing the damn walls at us. Proceed as planned. Do not wait for me. Get those charges set." He didn't wait for her to acknowledge as he surged back onto the trail his pace faster now as the archives loomed ahead with Shem Spinner Shem Spinner , and Aurelian Sigismund Aurelian Sigismund following behind.

She couldn't help but smirk at the comment made by the mandalorian below her, as drone recon was practically drilled into her rebel forces back in Wild Space.

Still, she knew better than to sass someone with a disruptor rifle. Instead, she pushed forward and spotted one of the beasts. She didn't take more than a second thought, she did a trick she'd taught Ko Vuto Ko Vuto years ago now not to do. With a hefty throw, she ignited her ghostfire saber and threw it with the Force at the Vornskr, before drawing it back, and extinguishing the blade. For a moment, she waited with baited breath. Ears perked to listen to the sound of the jungle as the Vornskr's death echoed through the jungle.

Hunting was a rite of her people. She knew how to take something down without alerting it. It seemed her sudden attack hadn't drawn the ire of the rest of the jungle.

For now though, she kept her distance. Keeping the advantage of verticality.

The Mando would do the work of demolitions. That was her specialty. Jonyna would stick to her own.

The Sith had listened to her suggestion. In that, SL-0182 felt a momentary flash of surprise, which physically manifested as a brief ripple across her otherwise serene expression, but failed to break the uncanny smile plastered across her coffee-brown features. To the Asset, it had seemed like an obvious course of action to leverage the world’s ultra-dangerous wildlife to their advantage. So much so that she had half-expected to be ignored or dismissed. Instead, the annoyed expression that had initially creased the Weequay Sith’s features with her arrival had quickly faded, and the Feeorin Sith had sat down to enact the plan.

In the meantime, there was one more way that she could contribute to the defense before the Jedi assault began.

Having previously raided the remnants of the facility’s armory, SL-0182 set about placing laser trip mines at various ingress points just within the archive chambers. With precise movements, she placed the mines at carefully chosen points, with some placed on top of others to force the intruders to contort between them. While the lasers were visible to the naked eye, she hoped that the mines’ presence might slow the attackers or funnel them into kill zones. In either case, the window for extraction or the arrival of reinforcements would ideally be extended.

After setting the last mine, SL-0182 rose from a crouch, brushing dust from her knee in an absent motion. The entire time, the faint, eerie smile had never slipped from her countenance.

“Laser mines set,” SL-0182 reported in a melodic monotone. “Establishing defensive posture!”

Braze nodded, glanced to Kinoan Kinoan , and then made his way toward the oncoming puppers. He wanted to feel them out first. Vornskrs were not normal animals... A wild, hungry vornskr actively hunting him would resist hard for certain, and a whole pack was a whole ton of problems for him to contend with.

A heavy breath slipped from him as he tried to settle his nerves and quiet his mind. Animal Bond tended to require commitment, patience, and a willingness to truly connect with another living being. In this case, several living beings that very much, and very likely, wanted to make a snack out of the Force-sensitives nearby.

It had taken him quite a bit of time, and far more treats than Braze anticipated to make friends with Okuma Milogen Okuma Milogen 's Kujo begrudgingly, and Kujo had been somewhat tame by comparison. These were wild things. They had no familiar hand to answer to, nor any softened habits, nor any reason to see him as anything other than prey that had foolishly chosen to walk closer.

This would be no easy task by any means. Braze carefully slowed his steps, kept his hands where they could be seen, and let his presence soften in the Force. He made certain not to create any sudden movement that might be mistaken for fear or prey-flight.

Just a small, careful offering of calm and an extended hand.

He reached out through the Force, trying to to brush lightly against the depth of their instincts: hunger, wariness, scent, motion, the bright and dangerous awareness of living things that knew exactly how to hunt.

"Easy now…" he murmured softly.

"The Empire lost its vision after the destruction of the Sith Empire. Rather than rebuild the galaxy into something magnificent, they turned on the only ally they ever had."

He was right about that. It had lost its purpose and therefore its direction once the Sith Empire had been defeated and the Maw been checked and with the loss of Rurik, it had become a lost cause, condemning itself by lack of structure and established institutions.

But that was a topic for a different time and different place.

Aurelian's attention followed the disappearing figures of Braze and Kinoan, seeing them after they had visually vanished as he had marked their pheromones to avoid any potential friendly fire in the heat of battle. Not that he was attached to them or anything, but it would look quite off-putting if the ally accidentally wounded those he might have fought previously.

The Zakuulan followed K'krohl further onwards towards the archives when the noise of the incoming rocks, shredding foliage and trunks, was almost upon them.

In a graceful but impossibly fast manner, his sword Valoris appeared in his hand and awakened. Leaving silver trails on the retina, an afterthought of an image, the weapon cut through the air and through the rocks with incredible form and efficiency. Aurelian and the sword merged into a single organism as they for less than a heartbeat moved and left bisected stone, glowing at its cut edge, behind.

It left him dusted and parts of his cape and surcoat had new holes were the hypervelocity pebbles at pierced them, but he himself was unharmed as he kept by the side of the Jedi leader. Long steps carrying him as fast the as the Whiphid's pace, now eager to meet their enemy head on.

THE REVENGE OF THE JEDI PT. I
THE SKIRMISH ON FLORN
HOW IT ENDED

The Assault Team under Master K'krohl had managed to land a critical blow against the Dark Side of the Force on Florn with the assistance of the MANDALORIAN assault squad underneath Saram Kote, as they managed to topple the archives through a combination of set charges on the support pillars and the foundation of the structure itself.

Though try as they might the formidable warriors under the Whiphids command were not able to stop the evacuation of the more important text due to the presence of the Dark Side Defenders who were able to ferry things off-world on hidden shuttles belonging to the former Sith Overseer and the sudden arrival of a Kainate Fleet in orbit forcing them to withdraw.

Despite this personal failure, the Jedi and their allies had managed to send a message to the galaxy that for all the power the Sith and their ilk held they were able to be beaten even if was inch by inch, planet by planet or system by system. Eventually the Light Side would return stronger than before and the Whiphid would be leading the charge.
