OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

In a moment of clarity, maybe even inspiration, he realized he had the wherewithal to create a false Dark Side signature after all. The Sorzus Academy was just this world's latest stronghold of unabashed evil. He'd spent the past two days getting in tune with this world, getting a good clear sense of it.

He'd already concealed his presence. Now he just let himself wash away, blend into the background evil, almost like Vaapad users going to the edge of the Dark. The trick, the false Dark Side signature, would only work somewhere like this, and only after attuning himself to the world in question.

Like the cloak, like the stunned Sith's lightsaber, it was only one piece of the costume. He drew on the memory of his father, a Raskava Elder - straightened up, let his face hold every bit of the grim determination that had brought him here - hefted the clawed black lightsaber - and turned to Aradia with the look and feel of a very different man. Elapsed time, under a minute.

GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Media Name: Falsifying a Dark Presence
  • Format: Holodisc
  • Distribution: Rare (knowledge of its existence is restricted to Jedi Masters that Quill trusts with it)
  • Length: Under four hours
  • Description: A recording of Quill explaining his creation of a false Dark presence, and how to do it.
SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Author: Jedi Master Jend-Ro Quill
  • Publisher: Self
  • Reception: Quill is keeping this knowledge secret; if it had a reception, he'd be doing it wrong. The fact that the technique exists is similarly secret, but would probably piss off some of the more aggressive Jedi out there. One mitigating factor would be that this is a Master-level technique.
FORMAT INFORMATION
When plugged into any holoprojector, the data disc produces a three-dimensional holorecording of Master Quill explaining the false Dark presence and related techniques.

CONTENT INFORMATION
The holorecording covers four Jedi abilities - the false Dark presence, and three prerequisite skills:
  • Force concealment, which lets a Jedi Master conceal their alignment or presence. The false Dark presence is an evolution of, but qualitatively different from, the alignment-concealing use case.
  • Force scattering, which disseminates a Jedi's presence throughout a large area, making them impossible to track within that area. Quill considers this ability to require less focus than Force concealment.
  • The knowledge that, when a Jedi visits an unfamiliar world, they'll only get a 'feel' for it, get to know it in the Force, after a couple of days or a whole lot of meditation.
    • OOC note: This is from The High Republic: A Test of Courage. ""If there are people here, why didn't you sense them the first night?" Avon asked with a frown. "It could be they were somewhere else," Imri said. "We also weren't really in balance with Wevo before. It takes a moment to learn and get to know a place," Vernestra said, unbothered."
To cloak oneself with a false Dark Side aura using Quill's technique, a Jedi must fill two conditions:
  • The location must be a site or planet where the Dark Side is strong. The technique will not work anywhere else.
  • The Jedi must spend a couple of days (or hours of meditation) getting a feel for that planet or location.
If done right, the technique draws on the location's darkness, and lets the Jedi blend in without needing to internalize that darkness.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
In 864 ABY, the New Jedi Order attacked the Sorzus Academy of Sith Arts, an exclusive academy that trained alchemists and sorcerers. Concerned for the safety of the youngest students (generally in their mid teens) after the total eradication of Sith academies on Korriban, Bastion, and Dantooine, Jedi Master Jend-Ro Quill went rogue. Without informing anyone, he arrived on Ziost two days early and spent that time meditating, getting to know the area and the planet in the Force. When the Jedi strike team arrived, Quill slipped in a side door and began evacuating the youngest acolytes, willingly or unwillingly.

Eventually he realized that the simplest way to get them to safety - other than knocking them out and transporting them one by one - was to pretend to be a Sith Lord. He cracked the problem of the false Dark presence during this operation. Under the guise of 'Darth Prolix,' Quill's efforts led to the escape of around two dozen teenage acolytes, at least one of whom was as young as twelve. So far as they knew, Darth Prolix died fighting a rearguard action against the Jedi. So far as the Jedi knew at the time, Quill was never on Ziost at all.

Quill being Quill, he recorded the new technique faithfully (without any of the story behind it). Learning the details of Jedi involvement in the other academies' destruction shattered his confidence in much of the Jedi community. He kept the technique's existence secret, and distributed the holodiscs only to a few senior Jedi Masters who were not associated with any specific faction: Romi Jade Romi Jade , who led his enclave; Coren Starchaser Coren Starchaser , a fellow warrior-turned-moderate; and Tiland Kortun Tiland Kortun , a notoriously level-headed sage.

I dig this. Just one thing:

If there are links to be had for the New Jedi Order and the aforementioned Sith academies, please include them.
