STRENGTHS
  • Bulwark: Like many Mon Calamari designs, the Shadow Rhapsody has multi-layered shielding which allows it to at least put up one set of shields in a given area even if some of the ship's other shielding systems are damaged or down. Additionally, the Shadow Rhapsody also sports a Starlight Scutum shield than can help protect nearby friendly ship.
  • Heavy Hitter: The Shadow Rhapsody is a classic big gun battleship, capable of bringing at least two of its Thunderer Particle Cannons in any arc and supplementing these weapons with hundreds of other guns, including a pair of Ragnarok-class Heavy Gun Batteries. A single broadside from the Shadow Rhapsody can very easily eliminate a number of cruisers and frigates with a single stroke.
  • Stealth Warrior: The Shadow Rhapsody has a number of systems to make it more difficult to detect, including a stygium-based cloaking device and nightshadow hull coating as part of the experiments conducted on the ship. This is imperfect stealth, however, as it has no engine baffling nor measures to conceal its mass. It does make it difficult to detect or fire at range however. The Shadow Rhapsody additionally has a crystal gravfield trap to help it detect and fight other warships that use stealth technology.
WEAKNESSES
  • Low Agility: The Shadow Rhapsody is not an agile craft due to its size and the mass of its heavy armor.
  • Low Speed: The Shadow Rhapsody is not a fast vessel on account of its bulk and power dedication to its large number of weapons and shield projectors.
  • Weak Internal Defenses: The Shadow Rhapsody's history as a testbed meant that a lot of its internal structure was modified for ease of access by technicians and engineers. Despite being returned to active duty, the Shadow Rhapsody continues to have a large number of unsecured and unmapped passageways in the ship made by technicians and construction workers. With the sheer number of passages, the relatively small troop complement has given up to guarding and patrolling the main mapped corridors within the ship.
DESCRIPTION
The Shadow Rhapsodystarted out as transitional model between the Tuz I and Tuz II-class Battlecruisers, being the first of the battlecruisers to carry warhead launchers instead of plasma energy torpedo launchers as well as a pair of Ragnarok-class Heavy Gun Batteries used more extensively in the Tuz II. While initially used to ensure that projectile weapons would be able to be easily fit into the later Tuz II, the Shadow Rhapsody was not refitted fully to the Tuz II-class standard due to bureaucratic redtape. With the large, expensive ship caught in a bureaucratic quagmire, Admiral Quee tried to make the best of it by classifying it as an extended trials ship for emerging ship technologies. This resulted in it also being equipped with a number of stealth and anti-stealth technologies to further test the feasibility of hiding larger battlecruisers, with mixed results. While oftentimes difficult to detect at range with its cloaking device and nightshadow covered hull, ultimately its unbaffled ion drives and lack of reliable way of hiding its mass from specialized sensors means that its ability to hide is imperfect, especially when actually fighting. However, few expect such a large ship to display such characteristics, which has given the Shadow Rhapsody an unexpected edge in the few engagements it has fought in so far. Unlike a number of its sister ships, the Shadow Rhapsody is always crewed, in large part because it has useful surveillance abilities between its stealth abilities and powerful sensor suites. It often lingers near the borders of Silver Jedi Concord, carefully prowling for intruders and watching the movements of possible enemies just beyond the Concord's jurisdiction.
