[Republic Remnant] Safe Harbor

Teth had been fruitful. She'd found the people she was looking for and now she had a greater purpose in life. Thing was, while the Republic had been living out in Wild Space, they hadn't yet set up a home base. They were operating largely out of starships hiding in deep space, and several space stations. It couldn't remain that way, though. Hydroponics could only go so far. With Ever opening them up to other world's, they had discovered the agricultural world of Nadiem once again. And now? Now the current Chancellor and several of the senators were coming there to talk to them.

Jabir was tossing a ball back and forth with one of the village children, a youngster who was too young to even work in the fields. Some of the other rangers were busy securing the landing site, but most were relaxing. Nadiem was not a dangerous place, so they didn't need to worry much. Plus, a lot of the current members of the Republic were coming too, which meant the Rangers would have a chance to meet a lot of their fellows this time around.

"You think that Chiss girl from Teth is going to come?" Jabir asked, offering her a glance.

"Why? You got a crush on her?" Ever asked as she tapped the end of her staff on the bottom of the barrel she was sitting on.

"Maybe. She was cute."

Ever rolled her eyes and looked up at the sky, waiting for the Republic ships to appear. It was about time they started settling somewhere and stop acting like the old Rebellion. The Galaxy needed the Republic. It wasn't going to get it with them hiding on ships out in the blackness of deep space or in hidden underground fortresses. Ever felt glad to be a part of this change for them. She'd been looking forward to being a part of the Republic and now she finally was. It was a good day for Nadiem.

Kolab wasn’t unfond of many things. Mucking it through an insect infested swamp on a jungle world? Wouldn’t hear a peep of belly aching from this Barabel. Standing sentry from dusk until dawn without the slightest bit of entertainment? Pah, he’d just count the rocks on the ground around him. But the feel of a shuttle making its way through the thermosphere of a planet, this one being Nadiem, was enough to plaster a grimace across those reptilian features of his.

True inexperience in this starship to planetside was shown in his iron grip on an overhanging bar within the fuselage of the shuttle, while those around him either sat or stood with an ease to them that left him with a taste of admiration with the slightest hint of jealousy. A good soldier should be able to endure something as common as the puddle jump between the safety of a starship down to the landing site. They wouldn’t feel like they’d lose their lunch, feel their grasp on the recycled air of the shuttle a battle to draw in with every breath nor find themselves panting. That was the one silver lining Kolab found there to be in being covered in protective scales as opposed to the relative fleshiness of his comrades and shipmates. He wouldn’t be seen spouting sweat to give any further evidence to this personal battle.

They must’ve been getting close to the landing site, Kolab figured. Seeing as the turbulence experienced by the shuttle had dropped dramatically. From where he stood he could only catch a sliver of sight of the nearest viewport, which were already small to begin with on a landing craft. The darkness of space had been indeed replaced by the sight of Nadiem’s sky, as well as brief flashes of colors from the ground below. Greens, browns and...well, more greens. This planet would certainly be a hospitable change of scenery. Having spent weeks ship bound on one of the Republic ships tucked away in deep space left an ache to stretch the legs. As well as breathe fresh air.

It was a true joy when Kolab felt the landing gear of the craft hit the ground of the landing site with a final jolt. Boots back on the ground. This was his environment. Years of being a mercenary soldier, and most recently a Republic regular, had hardened him into a grunt eager to fight on the frontlines. Floating above them from the air? Noooooo way. A flicker of concern crossed his mind at the well being of the various other ships that must have been on their way down to the surface to meet with their new allies. Was his shuttle the first to touch down? Did the others make it alright?

With the ramp of the shuttle lowering, Kolab snatched up the rucksack that served to carry his possessions and followed the flow of brothers in arms towards the ramp, where Nadiem, as well as even newer comrades awaited.

Jesse had well an experience previously.. she was not certain as everything seemed to be happening a mile a minute, it seemed to be going longer and longer and she was confused with a look on her face. Where she wanted to work on a few more things. She had landed the Nualia class freighter and it looked like a turtle where that could go through space. THe ship was loaded with all of its equipment, her rooms filed in some places with crates or different things that she had found. Her hands twisted the band around her ponytail making it tight, the few bangs that were visible showed in front of her face framing it. She had a band around her arm with crystals within it, her glove gave a small look witht he crystals over her knuckles and within her palm. The skylar outfit was form fitted but hard to argue with material that could deflect sabers and blasters easily. She had been checking out a few things but left the ship heading down the ramp until she was going over. The sound of her heels tapping on the stone works where she looked. getting information into her wrist datapad for the others and she could work with and get Seimei to restore parts of the temple.

The ancient sages of Quan'Lo said, "Kannan ni atte hajimete shinyū o shiru."

It roughly translated to, friends are known first in hardship. The scholars of Jar'Kai might have been referring to that when they spoke of calamity arising from prosperity and prosperity from calamity.

In any case, It was important to encourage democracy, particularly among the vulnerable worlds of the Outer Rim and Wild Space. With empires rising across the galaxy, civil liberties were at risk in every corner of the cosmos. And, certainly, Atrisia was no stranger to Imperial rule. It was how the planet had governed itself for most of its history, so they were arriving late to the cause of the Alliance.

Which only made it that much more important that Atrisia be seen as a voice for democracy in these dark times.

The young Atrisian noble had come Nadiem in the hopes of fanning the embers of the Republic, in addition to sparking some goodwill between the Remnant and the Alliance. If the First Order, their Sith allies, and the Mandalorians were crusading for Imperial rule of the galaxy, then a strong Republic could only benefit the Alliance. And a strong Alliance could only benefit the Republic.

It seemed easy.

A few years experience now had taught him that nothing ever was.

Most people on the chancellor's ship remained silent on the dissent to the landing platform. Nobody had the enthusiasm that they once did many years ago upon the foundation of the Remnant. Priscilla certainly didn't possess any enthusiasm, simply using this as an outlet for her anger. Her eyes peered over the viewports of the ship, checking to see if [member="Ever Dawnracer"] had heeded the call that she received at the temple to meet at these coordinates, though unfortunately Priscilla was lacking the ability to distinguish individuals from 100s of meters up in the air.

There was no particular reason as to why she was assigned to the Chancellor's ship, there weren't that many anyway. Just a regular operative protecting the head of state, and that didn't even give her permission to ask for their opinion on why they were still in hiding. Directly beside the ship, two interceptors were swooping around, scanning the area for any potential interference but really they were there as a formality. It was unlikely anybody had actually heard about the Chancellor's existence, which at best was shady.

When they finally reached the landing pad, Priscilla was the first to exit and stared blankly back at the shuttle's doors to await the Chancellor's, as well as some select members of the senate's arrival.

Location: The Gnost Dural, orbiting above Nadiem
Purpose: To connect with the remnants of the Galactic Republic

The planet looked unimpressive from his vantage point. Kian stood in the center of the meditation chamber on the top most floor of the The Gnost Dural, the mobile home of the Jedi Shadows. It had been commissioned by the Galactic Republic....but the Republic had fallen in Kian's absence from the fold. He had missed so much in his time stranded on the unnamed planet he had ventured two several years back.

"I'll be gone for several days, most likely." Kian said over his shoulder to Jedi Master Eliza Ricon and Jedi Knight Koras Qual, two of the most senior Jedi Shadows left. "Stay in orbit, but if there is any sign of trouble evacuate to a safe distance and remain hidden." Kian instructed. While the ship could handle combat, it was not something Kian would ever risk with the vessel. It was not only the epicenter of the Jedi Shadows of the GR, but was also an enclave in the JAN and as such, had younglings on board. Kian would never risk those lives.

~ ~ ~
Several hours later, Kian sat in the cockpit of The Shadow having just broken through atmosphere and was heading toward the coordinates he had been given. As the clouds cleared from the viewport, the landscape before him was beautiful. In the distance in the direction he was going he could make out the beginning of what looked to be a village. Kian, still wary about meeting with those he had never met before, opted to put down several miles out from the village. A small hillock with trees dotting it served as a good cover for Kian to land his vessel and disembark.

"Keep it locked down." Kian said to CG-50, the protocol droid before he stepped off of the platform and made his way toward the village.

The first ships were descending towards the landing fields. Ever watched them through narrowed eyes, at first, but as they grew closer she didn't have to squint to see them. The force of ships coming to land was impressive, but then most such sights were. An agricultural world like theirs rarely had reason for so many ships visiting at once. Sure they exported a lot of goods, but those were usually a few larger ships at a time, not like this.

She gave a whistle and all of her Rangers left what they were doing behind, falling in on her as they made their way to the landing area. None of them donned their helmet. They didn't want to seem aggressive, and it was protocol to pay respect by holding the helmet in the crook of the arm at the side. That's what the old Republic soldiers had told them when they were being trained, at least. It seemed fitting.

When the first ship landed she surveyed the soldiers that came out of. A military transport landing first was to be expected when a prominent diplomatic figure was arriving. It raised no alarm from her troops, who moved towards where the largest of the ships was landing, surmising that this was likely host of the Chancellor, Eten Briar, based on size and ornateness. Politicians, even good ones, liked their niceties.

"Two lines, weapons shouldered and helms at your sides," she ordered the others, who followed her example.

Ever stood at the end of the line and watched as her father, Adder Dawnracer, approached to stand near to her. She got an appraising look and then a small smile before he turned his gaze to the landing ship which was now disgorging passengers. Soon enough, an overweight, bald man exited followed by security guards and other politicians. Ever guessed this was Briar, but kept her gaze forward, and waited for him to reach her father. When he did, they would go do their political business and the rest could mingle with the Republic members.

Kian Karr had covered the distance relatively quickly but still only arrived shortly after the largest of the ships had touched down at the village. He wrapped his robes tight around him, making sure his lightsaber was tucked out of sight and entered the village pulling a pack up on his back. He had discarded his typical Jedi Robes for a plain tunic and pants and a dirty cloak and hood, the type a traveling merchant might wear. Kian was use to operating under a certain amount of paranoia as a Shadow and he always preferred to identify individuals and establish himself in a position before making himself known. Kian was not sure if he would see anyone who knew him in this group. While Kian was once well known among those in the Galactic Republic, his long absence had given him a degree of anonymity.

As he entered the village there was a group of people beginning to assemble to see the people disembark off of the larger ship. Kian made his way into the group, doing his best to blend into the crowd. This was not a large village, so he would be unable to play the part of a townsfolk, especially being a Kel Dor, but he could at least get lost in the crowd, especially given that everyones attention would be on others.

"What is this?" Kian asked one of the villagers near him. The man gave him a wary look for a moment and hesitated in answering. "Just passing through," Kian assured the man, "my employer sent me here to see about making some purchases." This seemed to please the man, likely hoping to benefit from any potential sales transactions.

"Some meeting between Republic big-wigs." The man said, grunting. "The fat one is apparently a senator."

A CR70 corvette had touched down earlier, arriving with many of the other ships that had made their way into the Nadiem system. The site was not much to behold, but there was enough space across the grassy plains to find a level place to land. Most of the ship's crew stayed on board, making sure the craft was ready for takeoff at a moment's notice.

Four individuals had stepped off the boarding ramp, three of them obviously of military origin. One donned a naval uniform, flanked by two lightly armored fleet guards who currently had no visible weapons on their persons. The fourth man wore simple spacer attire, but carried himself no less than the others by his side.

There had been many calls to arms in the past few months, a response to the sudden strike led by the Imperial regimes of the galaxy. Tugoro had not cared to answer any of them, having been content with the path he had taken with his old apprentice. After their training was complete, Tugoro found himself among the members of Strike Squad, a unit he had worked with during his time as a Padawan.

This call was personal, and so the Jedi had ventured with his comrades across the galaxy, now mingling with those of the Republic Remnant. Commander Carock left to seek out other military types, hoping to gauge the power this remnant truly possessed. Battles fought among the old Republic had left a sour taste in Tugoro's mouth, the passion for combat he once knew as a youth no longer there.

Master Korr had once said the Jedi were shields of the Republic. Something along those lines. Tugoro tried to live by those words he faintly remembered, not even sure if he grasped their true meaning anymore. He did not look forward to potential battle, but the situation was grim. Darkness spread over the galaxy at a rapid rate, slowly but surely clouding the judgement of the light.

More incoming ships drew Tugoro's attention away from the local he had been talking to, their own gaze cast to the sky now too. Making his way back to the landing site, the man felt a familiar presence, his eyes scanning the crowd that gathered around one of the newly arrived vessels. From what he had heard, some high profile senators and potentially even the Chancellor were supposed to be here.

Tugoro was so out of the loop, that he didn't recognize any of the noteworthy individuals who exited the transport. Even so, he stood and observed through the mass of people, not as enthusiastic as the others, but no less attentive.

Kian had been in conversation with the farmer for several minutes now, their conversation having steered away from the Republic Remnant visit and onto his cover story of sales when something began to draw Kian's attention away. It started as a small sense of a present....one he hadn't felt in a long time. So long in fact, that Kian could not place it, thought it felt so very familiar. Execusing himself from the conversation, Kian turned and began to walk along the outskirts of the crowd.

The sense was drawing him in the direction he needed to go, like a homing beacon as it grew and grew as he got closer and closer to his target. Kian caught a glimpse of the man who was his target but his back was too him, and the crowd quickly swelled in front of him, pushing him down another path. The glimpse was only momentary and yet familiar.

Finally the crowd parted to his right and he stepped through to have a better look at the man. He was not facing Kian, but there was something oddly familiar about him, but even more familiar was his presence in the force.

Images began to flash through Kian's mind. Memories.

A chase through a cave of crystals...."you're going to get yourself kill..."

The One Sith Invasion of Carida....the first time Kian had ever taken a life and the way it had haunted him...

The One Sith assault on Ossus...watching younglings turned into savage animals....

The Republic invasion of Alderaan...and a battle on Geonosis....

Kian shook his head as if the memories could be shaken away that easily. Suddenly a face began to form in his mind, but not the face of the man before him, but rather the boy he had been.

"Tugoro....." Kian said, the words coming out of his in no more than a whisper. "[member="Tugoro Taidarious"]."

Jesse was looking at the people arrive and she offered a smile. Her eyes flicking over the others who were there. She recognized no one really but spoke when prompted mostly so they would have her name for reasons. "I am Jesse Organa." The last name usually got something from people, Organa was well known as a name despite what had come of it. She knew the other people distant family who basically turned it into a monarchy and took over alderaan then gave it to the mandalorians at the time... She well had stayed away doing work with the church of the force. A collection of force users who roamed around the galaxy doing a few things here and there. She saw a child as well and then some jedi who had come and she bowed her head to them.

None of them were recognizable. That was fine, for Tugoro did sense some fellow Jedi in the area. He would regard them with a brief nod, before turning his attention back to the gathering at hand. The military of this remnant did seem organized and professional, that was definitely a good sign. He knew resources were bound to be a concern sooner or later, though perhaps these senators were brought in to become benefactors of sorts.

Tugoro knew he himself had little to offer, but Commander Carock on the other hand, would most likely be enlisted by the end of the day. Strike Squadron was usually spread across the galaxy, but their ships could still prove to be of use, whatever task they may be given.

These thoughts vanished in a mere instant, completely insignificant when compared to the memories he now... Felt. Pride at Carida, after out-performing the others in the flight simulators. Anger in the sparring hall, when his hand had been sliced off. Fear during the Sith raid on Ossus, though he'd never admit it. Hope, as the four united to bring those inflicted younglings back to the light. Shame on Geonosis, after a crushing defeat.

[member="Kian Karr"] had been there for it all. Tugoro's mind was unreadable, but the Kel Dor knew him best out of anyone in the entire universe. The man was not surprised to see Kian, but the boy he had once been sure was excited. That old part of him found it's way to the surface, a slight smirk, with just a hint of smugness, cracking as Tugoro turned fully to move through the crowd.

Forgetting the formalities of the Jedi, he aimed to embrace the Kel Dor in a brief hug, glad to see that his old friend was still alive and well. If they were destined to meet in any place, it surely was this one. "I lost track of the years some time ago," Tugoro began, unsure of what to say. When was the last time they had seen each other? Had they even talked since Tugoro's complete comprehension of basic?

"It is so great to see you, my friend. What have you been up to?" As always, brief and to the point, though his tone was far from blank. Kian was bound to have some great stories to tell.

The Prince of Atrisia traveled in no luxurious spacecraft.

Nor did he have any desire for escorts. Both of those cost resources. Resources that were better cycled into Atrisia's reconstruction and continued re-development as an Alliance world.

Plus, those things would mean that the boy would have handlers. The people that went by many different names. Advisors. Bodyguards. Jailers. It was often much the same. So, Shoma traveled with just a hospitality droid and a floating orb-like protocol droid. None of whom were armed - save for Shoma's lightsaber - but then, violence was what had rendered Atrisia into its current planetary state.

As the youth made his way from the landing field, he arrived at what seemed a village of sorts. It was not unlike those that still dotted the landscape in the Imperial province of Jar'Kai, away from the Imperial City itself.

The fact that Republic troops were present only reinforced the similarities between his homeland and this place.

But those same similarities were what had brought him this far.

The trek down the ramp of the military landing craft had taken long enough for the situation on the ground in terms of the number of individuals as well as other spacecraft that had landed all acrossing the landing zone. Although this time consuming endeavor was partially the fault of he himself. In his haste to exit the craft he’d forgotten the fundamental rule of leaving the transport. Besides buckling up. Besides taking care when retrieving rucksacks from the storage compartments above incase they had shifted. He’d left his standard issue DC-15 blaster rifle next to his seat, causing the Barabel to beat a hasty retreat back -into- the belly of the craft to retrieve it and then join the rest of the stragglers on their way to the landscape below.

Recovering from this momentary setback of embarrassment, Kolab swiftly fell into line and shouldered his weapon besides his Republic brothers in arms just a stone’s throw away from the landing crafts of the civilians and the senators. The number of them came as a surprise to him, if truth was to be told. He’d not seen this large of a gathering of those who carried arms under the banner of the fallen Republic in all his time within them. Then again, he was about as green as summer grass within the Republic’s armed forces himself. Being sequestered to a ship in wild space for months didn’t carry with it many times for festive gatherings with comrades. Only the same old faces day in and day out.

It was for this reason that Kolab’s attention wandered over to those who were to be their new brothers in arms. So far he’d sighted two rows of what he could assume were the specialized unit of commandos he’d heard rumpor of on the journey over. The sight of helmers tucked beneath their arms gave that much away. What drew his curiosity were the sticks they carried in a manner that he carried his own weapon. Was their style of fighting charging into the faces of the enemy and battering them senseless? It would be a bold technique. That was for certain.

Attention continued to wander as he sighted even more fresh faces. Among them was what he could assume was a Chiss by their bluish skin who had exited one of the larger of the transports which could be guessed as the Chancellor’s vessel. Giving a slight nod of the head to them, he remained motionless besides that in that line of soldiers. They had to at least give the impression of organization and professionalism. Especially when the head of state was in witness to them.

Aboard the Iviin'yc, Exiting Hyperspace

Mereel ran through the white, pristine halls of the Iviin'yc. The halls were empty now, all crew members that would normally be awake during this shift were at their posts. Mereel barged onto the bridge and ran up to Captain Tucker, who gave him a slight nod, "We're dropping out of hyperspace now and entering the Nadiem System."

Mereel hoped he was right about this. After dropping off the Sith at Peroon star port, he had returned to the temple on Teth and discovered a wide open underground door in the library to what he guessed was a hidden remnant base "Captain, set the ship to red alert. Prepare to display our Resistance IFF tags. If you don't see a vessel belonging to the Galactic Empire or the Sith Empire, flash the Resistance tag as soon as we are in realspace."

The temple had been empty on his return visit, and the secret underground base was empty. Well, almost empty. There had been three datapads in various states of disrepair left in the corner of one of the hidden base's rooms. After a quick repair job and the hiring of a slicer to crack the encryption codes, information on one of the datapads lead them here. "Comm., get the Resistance friend or foe signal ready, and patch us through to Daniels in engineering. I hope you're right about this Vaun, it takes more than a minute to return to our route in the Unknown Regions."

Outside of the viewport, the stars returned to their normal positions in space. Nadiem occupied the center of the viewscreen. There weren't any Galactic Empire or Sith Empire vessels on sensors. "Display Resistance IFF tags. Helm, set a course to take us into Nadiem's orbit, engines at full speed. Comm, run a constant scan for hails coming from the planet."

Mereel stood as a spectator as the older man from Kuat ran through a list of orders. He wondered how many times the man had done this when he had commanded a vessel in the Republic Navy. "...scan for any large concentrations of vessels on the planet's surface starting in grids-"

Mereel decided he was glad he brought Tucker on years ago. Being a groundpounder was a much simpler lifestyle.

"You're safe. Stop being paranoid." Whispering to the Chancellor as he reached the bottom of the ramp. Directly her eyes had peered over to [member="Ever Dawnracer"] and her father, whom she had given coordinates to meet on this landing pad to prior. While she didn't know exactly what the woman wanted, she was at least trustful given Ever's knowledge of the underground base on Teth. The Chancellor, needless to say, was terrified for his safety, but after extensive security briefings was reassured by Ruse and what was a mish-mash group of secret-serviceesque personnel that there was little risk of him dying, and if he did he would be replaced and the legacy would live on. And in her opinion that was for the better. Certainly at least to her, he sounded spineless in his speeches.

By no means did she had authority over anybody else, though she expected people to pay attention when she spoke. Her neck seemed to move instantly and locked eyes with a Republic Soldier, some sort of species she had not seen before. Approaching she grabbed his arm and lowered her voice. "If anybody tries anything funny arrest them, detain them, kill them if they bring out lethal weaponry. If they're millitary just evacuate and abandon the operation. Get these civvies away from the area as well." expecting him to spread the word. ([member="Kolab Shansaash"])

Once more she quickened her pace to match that of the clearly overweight chancellor and his entourage of sycophants whom followed, now approaching Adder's position. His eyes looked the woman up and down, looking back to Priscilla who stood with her arms crossed. "Chancellor, Ever Dawnracer. Ever Dawnracer, Chancellor Briar."

The Chancellor extended his arm offering the woman a handshake cautiously, his hands trembling due.

In his ship which was a decent size as he entered the atmosphere of Nadiem slowly descending down, he sends an msg to all signals below " Jedi, Knight Kolbacca here I'm coming down " (Has a device that changes his language to the native language of whatever species he talks to) as his ship that is roughly 200 Meters long and 75 Meters wide now in sight of the landing pad he lands slowly trying to fit.

" Stay here and don't move the ship or allow anyone to move it without my permission " he exits the ship walking over to where the 2 women and the chancellor were at " Hello I'm Jedi Knight Kolbacca I'm here to help protect the chancellor " standing 10,3 feet tall he frightened many with his strength and courage.

The Kian of a few decades past would have been very uncomfortable with the embrace from his friend [member="Tugoro Taidarious"]. But time had changed that. Kian had learned to appreciate those that were in his life and his time with them. He'd lost enough friends now to know better than to take any of them for granted. Returning the embrace in return, Kian released Tuguro and stepped back.

"The years have been good to you my old friend." Kian said smiling broadly beneath his mask.

"I'm afraid the duties of a Shadow drew me away for a long time...." Kian said shaking his head. "I was stranded far from here when the Republic fell.....I breaks my heart that I was not here to defend her to the last." Kian said remorsefully.

"But I am glad to see that the Republic is not lost....we will rebuild." Kian said reaching out and slapping his friend on the shoulder.

"But what of you?" Kian asked. "How have you been?"

Ever reached out and shook the man's hand.

"It's an honor to meet you, sir," she said, feeling as though she were breaking protocol. "It's my father, Adder, that you should speak with, though. He represents us."

She motioned with her hand towards the older man standing nearby, his weight set upon a cane. She would leave them to their devices, and once the Chancellor and her father moved off with his guard, she would sign and lift her hand in dismissal of the Rangers, who relaxed and went to mill about with the strangers of the Republic who had come to their world. Ever, for her part, focused on Priscilla for the moment.

Lifting a hand, he motioned for her to follow as she went over towards one of the nearby buildings where a vendor had set up to sell some flatbreads made with local meat and veggies. She purchased two and offered one to the Chiss woman.

"I'm glad you came. Nadiem needs the Republic and I think the Republic could use us. You have a lot of mouths to feed."
