SENATE CHAMBER // CORUSCANT
OUTBOUND FLIGHT INITIATIVE

"Most appreciated, High Admiral Pryce."

Senator Stazi offered the GADF flag officer a solemn nod. He respected Dracken as a comrade who shared some of his more aggressive tendencies toward championing Alliance military efforts. Caught up in tactical analysis, the corellian failed to to appreciate the politics behind who was asking such a question. Alderaan and Duro shared a deep bond in standing up for republican ideals but in almost every other respect Queen Organa was his mirror image. Where he counseled action, she often urged restraint.

"I understand Alderaan's concerns, your majesty. Outbound Flight would cost us. In resources...in credits...in lives. More than any time in our history the Alliance's destiny is not of our own choosing. We did not seek nor did we provoke this latest assault on our freedoms and our way of life. We did not expect nor did we invite a renewed confrontation with evil. Yet the true measure of a people's strength is how they rise to master that moment when it does arrive. We choose to do this and the other things not because they are easy but because they are hard."

Mazik curled one hand into a fist and gestured at the Senate with his elongated boney thumb to emphasize each point.

"It is our sacred responsibility to determine what the Starbird will mean to the Unknown Regions. For as long as the Maw remains a threat its natives will either see us as foreign warriors waging a proxy war across their territories to defend our own borders...or as a Galactic Alliance that stands by our ideals of progress and equality no matter the odds."

These were the most words Stazi had ever spoken at once in his political career. Normally he was so reserved and calculating but today an unusual fiery passion burned in his eyes.

"With each great leap forward in exploration comes new innovations and discovery. Hyperdrives. Bacta. Carbonite. Kyber. Given time and commitment I believe Outlander Station will pay for itself. Establishing more reliable trade infrastructure between the Core Worlds and Unknown Space is Outbound Flight's first step on the path to self sustaining revenue."

A Promise
Objective: II - Outbound Flight Initiative
Location: The Chancellor's Podium

kwzlsmL.png

Chancellor Chandra listened as the Senators delved into a debate about the costs and implications of undertaking an ambitious plan like Outlander Station. There would no doubt be a deep chasm carved into the Alliance Treasury and the Senate would no doubt need to raise taxes slightly to accommodate for the new interstellar infrastructure. However, for Adhira this seemed a small cost to pay for the Alliance to fulfill a millennia-old promise of galactic governments to finally bring peace and order to those territories not blessed by the wealth and security offered by the Core. When Senator Mazik Stazi Mazik Stazi finished speaking, she stood, her large golden broach sparkling in the spotlight shining down on her podium.

"Thank you, Senator Stazi," she smiled warmly at the Duros politician before her dark eyes scanned the sea of Senators staring up at her, "honorable delegate of the Senate, we have recently witnessed a tremendous threat to galactic security in the savage attack on Csilla. Increasingly, it seems that danger surrounds us on all sides, threatening to plunge our galaxy into chaos and since our founding, we have stood as the final defense against the darkness."

"Since the time of the first Galactic Republic, a promise has been made to the people of the galaxy: join us and we will ensure you live in peace and prosperity - Yet, inevitably, it has been the far-flung regions such as the Mid Rim and beyond that are forgotten by the Core worlds. Even at the height of democracy in the galaxy, the old Republics failed to keep their promises, largely leaving the outer regions to their own devices with only a facade of governance in place."

"As we gather here today, it is clear that now, more than ever, the planets of the Mid Rim and the Unknown Regions are under dire threat from the so-called 'Brotherhood of the Maw' and once more we are called to do our sacred duty and defend the defenseless. Outlander Station would be but the first step in expanding the borders of this Alliance and the reach of our protection,"
to Adhira's surprise, she received a flurry of applause midway through her impromptu speech and she paused to allow it to punctuate her point, "some may worry of the cost, but I remind you, Senators, the cost of sending our fleets into battle far beyond our borders has proven much greater and with the addition of every new member planet comes the contribution of another Planetary Defense Force and the contribution of taxes from loyal citizens of the Alliance."

"Too long have we simply reacted to these galactic menaces, if we are to end this threat we must preempt its advances... for the good of the Alliance and the galaxy. I yield the floor."
Adhira resumed her seat to more scattered applause throughout the chamber.

"Clean Up, so dull" There was little for the commander of the Second Expeditionary Squadron to say, nor did he want to. The Stygian Campaign had, with brutal honesty, been derailed for the time being. The dedicated resources of the Second and Third Sector Fleets had been nearly exahusted, and much to the dismay of the Senate, it's officers were tired.

"The Brotherhood of the Maw represents a threat. One that is being stated in the most passive regard possible by the Chancellor" He leaned from his seat to whisper his assement into the High Admirals ear. "Did you see the reports? Imperial warships. Marked with an unusual symbol"

What the hell was up with Dagon and tripping alarms lately? He'd managed to sneak into Iden's office unobstructed, sliced into the terminal, and then got caught in the act. A fist and firefight ensued, a few broken arms and a blaster bolt scorched shoulder later and Dagon was on Iden's tail, all the incriminating data on a memory chip in the Chiss' pocket. For a Jedi dashing with the aid of the Force, he sure felt slow as hell compared to the burly Chiss; no surprise when every corner he turned he had to go through at least two strong-armed goons without the use of his blade.

Eventually, Dagon cornered the man on one of the flat rooftops designed as landing pads for vehicles and small freighters. The arid breeze brushed across his raven locks as he cautiously approached Iden.

"It's over, man. Turn yourself in, an Alliance cell is a much better option than...the way this can go."

"You don't understand, Jedi - this is way over your head; you're messing with the wrong people."

"What people?"

Iden shook his head, a crooked smile forming on his lips.

"Look, whoever you're working for... we can protect you. The Alliance's got a solid witness protection--"

"Tsk, you're still not getting it, are you?"

"Getting what?"

"They are the Alliance."

"Wha--"

Dagon's voice trailed off as a speeder suddenly ascended from below appearing in their view. A heavy repeating blaster at its helm flared to life.

"No!"

The intense fire shredded the Chiss, his body falling over the edge as chunks of concrete and plates of durasteel tore up and the landing platform tilted sideways sending Dagon after him. He scrambled for leverage, for anything, to grasp at but to no avail. The Jedi was freefalling after Iden's lifeless body towards the doom waiting for him on the solid ground two dozen floors below.

LONG LIVE THE EMPIRE

ChVAW7n.png

y7yeVOK.png

A harsh press of his boots thudded with each step as he hastened his pace. Onyx Mask hiding his intense look of hatred and built up rage, he had been waiting to get revenge. The seat marks on his mask reminders of the Jedi who pushed him to the edge and got away, his only failure time and time again. There were more here, fools grasping at the void by which they had no comprehension of. The Unknown Regions birthed horrors such as they, out there was darkness and death. It was theirs, as they sought ways in, the Brotherhood plotted ways out.

The two were to clash, as had been foretold in their Dark Crusade, their mystic Heathen Priests spoke of a great tidal wave of blood. If it meant finally ending the Jedi.. well.. he was all in.

His padded knee slid down as his other leg spread, his body skidding across the flooring with savage movement. He lifted his poled weapon, his Beskar-Alloy Vibro-Halberd came to in the knick of time. Sinh intercepted the strike aimed for his master and interjected himself onto the struggle.

The Jedi would find the Ren were no easy prey, they were predators with talons ready to deal with whatever lied their way.

The Senator of Epoch clasped his hands together and clapped alongside the sea of applause that came the way of Adhira Chandra Adhira Chandra . Outbound Flight was a championed opportunity for the Galactic Alliance, it represented a new era in the making, one that would connect the Unknown Regions to the Greater Galaxy. The challenges of course being the Brotherhood of the Maw and the alien forces that lurked beyond the labyrinthine borders of known and unknown. In the sea of shadow there be monsters, ones that had been waiting for ways out.

His hand ran through his beard and scrunched through the white hairs in thought. The Elder Epochian was pleased the threat of the Brotherhood was being taken seriously by the Alliance, yet it would take a strong hand to keep the men and women of the GADF moving forward after the disaster that befell the Stygian Campaign on Ziost. More power would have to be brokered, and this would not be viewed as favorable especially when certain unsavories grasped at the breadcrumbs that fell through the cracks.

Some could take advantage.

He shook off his feelings of paranoia and smiled, it was a joyous day for the Alliance. He couldn’t have been more proud of their achievement this day in the grand scheme of putting forth such an ambitious project. They had his full support and the support of his people on Epoch.

Long live democracy.

if they're watching anyways

Auteme controlled her reaction as she read the message Linny had passed along, but her thoughts raced under the surface. Investigating the Tetan senator? Seto had been nothing but a kind and genuine friend to Auteme ever since they'd first spoken.

Yet, Dagon was a friend she knew and trusted. He was smart. He was an investigator. If something was wrong, he'd figure it out. Seto was surely not the culprit, and she trusted Dagon to learn that as well.

She couldn't very well choose between people.

Even so, Seto's following words seemed to be an attempt to get her -- and the two padawans -- out of the room. While his method of building rapport certainly seemed effective she couldn't very well abandon the negotiations, especially if Dagon needed her to stall. She cleared her throat.

"Of course, I understand the image of the Jedi as somewhat militant," she began as soon as Du Couteau had finished, "But I can assure you, being a peacekeeper extends beyond being a glorified soldier or police officer. Padawan Rennis is a skilled investigator and well-versed intellectual, and padawan Sovv has proven his wisdom many times in the past through his keen eye and astute observations. And of course, there is no greater master of economic policy than Aerarii Tithe, the current Vice Chancellor and a personal friend of mine, who I have spent a great deal of time speaking to -- and who I could inform of your current troubles."

Seto could build ethos; so could Auteme. Hers took a bit more embellishing, of course, but she thought it was effective enough. Knowing they needed more time, she continued. "I know things seem difficult right now. These mining cartels don't care about your jobs -- they're just out to make a profit. You want to be able to provide for your families, and the Alliance can help facilitate that. As Senator Du Couteau said, having a stable job and income is possible in your line of work. We want to provide that infrastructure for you. Not for the cartels. For you.

"All you have to do is let us in. We're at the table. Just tell us you are, too, and we can get to work."

Faith nodded to the Admiral to thank him for his time and explanation. She once again turned her attention to the presentation on the Station. Other voices soon spoke up Mazik Stazi Mazik Stazi and DARKCOM DARKCOM . The face of Zahara Myneto Zahara Myneto watched over the proceedings. But the voice that made the heads turn was that of the Chancellor Adhira Chandra Adhira Chandra and there it was that little nudge to let everyone know that she supported this measure and why.

Faith sat back this argument about safety and freedom and peace seemed to rise at every turn. Everyone wanted that, everyone supported that....and everyone thought they were willing to pay whatever the price was for that some weren't really. Death and loss permeated the soul of a people, it could rob them of a future, and change them forever. Everyone thought they understood death but didn't really feel it till it visited their own front doors. How many had died already in pursuit of peace? She looked over at the Admiral again Dracken Pryce Dracken Pryce surely he knew how many lives. How many messages did he send to the families of those lost?

Faith stared at the document, the applause add volume to urge everyone to listen it lifted up the Chancellor's point. It was not thunderous but it didn't need to be. What made those who had not clapped hold back? Where was their voices today, was it pinned to the back of their throats?

Extend the Alliance reach, stretch out the peace and prosperity of the Alliance for all to share in....make ourselves a bigger target. Their influence across the galaxy find no end to our borders, let us give them peace and prosperity.

She looked about for Shoma Ike Shoma Ike and the Atrisian pod. What was he thinking? Did Atrisia support this station, and all the measures needed to bring its mission of exploration to fruition? Everyone had to know that in truth since the Admiral had said military and Jedi already occupied the station that this bill wasn't so much about exploration but about making the Alliances presence stronger and to send a message, We are here.

Could Alderaan support this measure? She listened wondering who else would voice their support or concerns.

Hero glanced between Linny and Auteme with inscrutable black orbs. He could sense them both through the Force like fault lines in bedrock. Molten emotion bled through as bright as flame in his mind. Uncertainty...or was it suspicion? Anxieties emanated from the labor representatives, even their own translator. Yet whenever his attention wandered to the Senator he sensed nothing. Such extraordinary self discipline seemed almost impossible to believe.

"How do we know the Alliance isn't just another cartel?"

He was used to this kind of cynical attitude toward the Core Worlds on his homeworld. After all the galactic underworld employed peacekeepers of their own only they called them enforcers. Most large scale criminal outfits hid behind thin veneers of corporate legality to justify their oppression. Padawan Sovv knew the only way to break through such skepticism was with good old fashioned common sense.

"Because we're asking permission and not holding blasters."

Everything out here was so rustic. Except for the asteroid mining resources to be acquired Roxuli appeared a total backwater. Fortunately prospecting was another sullustan area of expertise. He understood perhaps more than anyone else in the delegation miners and their unique challenges. Suspicious of outsiders. Too proud to ask for help. Resilient in their own humble way.

"Perhaps it would be best if we
all gave you some time to take private counsel. I would very much like to inspect your mining equipment. Do you use mole miners, or conventional laser-borers?"

The Assembly Chamber enjoyed a cordial debate, something which it had not borne witness to in some time. The Honourable Member for Alderaan queried how many military resources would be drawn away from the defence of the Alliance to support the mission, to which High Admiral Pryce explained the drawdown from the Sith campaign would more than suffice. The Honourable Member for Duro noted what could be gained from the mission in terms of technology, allies and stronger borders, with the Chancellor stating that it was the duty of the Alliance to support and protect the unknown Regions from the threats which lingered within.

With debate drawing to the end, it was time for the Senators to vote. Tithe nodded to the Senator Parliamentarian who activated the Senate bells. Alarms situated throughout the Assembly building, the Senate offices and even some nearby bars and restaurants rang out. Upon hearing the bells all Senators not already in the Assembly Chamber had only a few minutes to hurry back and take up their post in their respective Senate pod so they could vote. Anyone not back in time was barred from voting, regardless of the reason for their delay, resulting in regular scenes of chaos as elected official raced through the halls to cast their votes.

“The question. Yes, now the question is on the adoption of a motion to approve the, ah, formation of an Outbound Flight initiative,” Tithe explained to all present once the bells stopped ringing and all voting Senators were stationed in their pods. “My esteemed colleagues, please cast your votes and make your wishes known.”

Linny had no idea what the others thought about Senator Du Couteau. He was a politician, so y'know, distrust came with the territory but she'd never really had much of an opinion... but she trusted Dagon enough to believe what he said. And whilst there might have been an innocent explanation for trying to get rid of the Jedi... actually no, scratch that, there was no innocent explanation that Linny could think of. It just made her a whole lot more suspicious... and she'd be damned if she was letting herself get outplayed.

After all, she was a well-versed intellectual, according to Auteme, which was great for a girl who'd nearly tripped over her own boots on the way into the building. Luckily, Hero had provided an excellent idea.

"I agree with Padawan Sovv," she said, offering him a smile, "some time to gather our thoughts may be best." A convenient way to give Dagon more time to bring something to the table. She'd take a gift from the heavens at this point. "The last thing any of us want to do is impose on you all. I'm sure we all agree, Senator? Knight Denko-Durren?" She made sure to not mention the senator last. "If we just narrow down a few objectives, demands, needs you all have, we can run with that."

Hopefully, that strategy might work. But before she could check too many suspicious faces on the other side of the room, her communicator came to life with strange, loud noises. "Excuse me, sorry, I think I've got a busted link..." she muttered, moving away from her seat, towards the door.

She heard the hiss of frustration coming from the Chiss at the other side.

"Can't get a straight answer from any one of them."

"That's Alliance for you."

"Iden WAS right, see?"

"Just trying to-"

"Not a chance they-"

Once outside, the voices round the table cut out, but it gave her a better chance to listen in. Voices. What sounded like shots? Heavy shots, or interference? Then... whistling. Whistling like wind. That was weird.

"Dagon? You better have something, Seto just tried to schmooze his way into kicking the Jedi out," she whispered carefully into the mic. "Come on, man, please say you have something. We're getting stonewalled by a Chiss ghost. I bet there never even was an Iden."

Seto maintained a soft ghost of a smile across his face, he knew the charming nature of his couldn’t be overplayed. Especially with how tough and tall these walls the miners here built for themselves. The notion of things being too good to be true was always proven to be correct for many people. Unfortunately for Seto for him to fight against this sort of cynicism it would take years to change when it came to these Chiss miners. I don’t have years, so a shortcut is needed here.
His head turned to listen to all three Jedi, Seto was interested with how they would take his proposal to the Chiss. Clearly leaving the negotiations was not going to happen, but the young Du Couteau heir expected it, he simply hoped it would soften the miner’s impression of them somewhat. Though the continued posturing to give themselves all more time to discuss further details with the Miners was a bit off to Seto.
They came here to hear a possible solution, something to maybe bring to this Iden character.
Clearing his throat, he turned to the Translator and gave her a friendly nod before returning his gaze to the miners. “Before we adjourn this meeting, may I present an offer to you all?” Seto asked, standing up as if to take his leave. The miners all shared interest, but only a few nodded in response. Clearly their patience had been running thin for quite some time.
“Leverage is key to any negotiations with the Mining Coalitions here on Roxuli. Here is something you can use when you talk with your Employers. I will offer you refuge on Empress Teta, the Immigration Offices will fast track your Citizenship once Roxuli becomes a Member World of the Alliance-"
". . . and most importantly for work; the Royal Miners Union of Teta will approach anyone that takes this offer and give you work as a Union Member.” Seto explained, his hand slid a data-slate across the table.
“But Iden-” One of the Miners began, looking at the data-slate tentatively.
“You may believe you have no choice left in your lives but you must see that thought for what it is: A lie.” Seto responded quickly, his hands gestured towards them all, “-The Alliance believes all Citizens deserve a shield to protect them from the cruelty of the Galaxy and that’s why they sent the Jedi you see before you-"
". . . .and I see your resolve and determination and that’s why I present this offer to you, because I believe the pursuit of happiness needs a proper place to start and there is no better place for you to start your own pursuit than Empress Teta.” Seto bowed his head, as he gave all the Chiss miners a genuine nod and smile.

A Promise Made
Objective: II - Outbound Flight Initiative
Location: The Chancellor's Podium

kwzlsmL.png

The Chancellor could not help but feel a swell of hope for the costly initiative as her own endorsement of it -- and of further plans of expansion -- seemed to excite a good number of the assembled legislators. It had become rare for Adhira to speak on issues so as not to seem like she was applying undue pressure on her own party from the podium. In this particular case, expanding their borders to protect the neutral territory near their borders was one of the key planks of her agenda.

When Aerarii Tithe Aerarii Tithe brought the debate period to a close and invited the Senators to vote, she watched closely as the little green and red lines rose and fell on the control screen on their podium denoting the yes and no votes and the majorities so far. The white dots were Senators who had not yet voted. Every time another of the legislators case their vote, a small chime on the podium let them the vote was one step closer to resolving. Her own Federalist Bloc supporters were the quickest to throw their lots firmly in the yes column, albeit a few outliers lingered in the void. She was even surprised to see a few Corporatists, no doubt seizing on financial opportunities.

"This will be just the first step, Aerarii, to finally realizing our full potential - we will truly be able to bring peace and democracy to the abandoned regions of the galaxy," she said softly, almost inaudibly as she continued to look forward. She seemed genuinely happy with this potential outcome. After Emmen left office, she fulfilled his mandate of reuniting the Core worlds. Now, it seemed it was her turn to bring into the fold all worlds who sought the embrace of the Alliance.

The dice was casted, the vote was given. Vreemde was satisfied with the decision and was curious how the chamber would vote on it. His eyes wandered around the huge room, seeing many species for the first time and wondering how they are called and what they are representing, the Alliance was a gathering of many species and planets, most likely the high populations in the galaxy.

And that was exactly the reason why he was here. The Core was the key to the Galaxy, it controlled trade, it controlled population and it had the biggest industry. The resources the Core is ruling are abundant, even though they are turned inwards due to the federalistic ideals. Now this initiative will spread them a bit thinner, expanding into regions which were not known before. To them at least.

Brentaal would for sure participate in these endeavours, the minor houses would try to gain some influence and prestige by sending glorified adventurers into the unknown. In his mind an idea formed and he quickly wrote down the details to send them to his chief engineers, a deep space explorer will be the ideal product in the months to come. Meanwhile the votes were slowly stacking up, most in approval of the initiative.

BURNING LIGHT

y7yeVOK.png

OBJECTIVE 1 | OUTLANDER STATION
Michael Sardun Michael Sardun | The Mongrel The Mongrel | Zachariel Steelblood Zachariel Steelblood | OPEN

PUNCH BAG

Ishida trusted Master Sardun more than anything. When he said their light would remain steadfast, then that could be the case. There was no flaw in his argument. He had seen the tides of time ebb and flow against eternity’s shores, cycles coming and going, and he triumphed unwaveringly.

So when the Mongrel spoke above the chaos, her ears only twitched at the threat. They seemed to pass right through one ear and out the other, leaving only a small amount of residue on her psyche.

A sudden shift in material caught her off guard. Her battle bark turned into a gasp of surprise when her plasma blades cut through metal instead of flesh and bone, and the jarring connection reverberated up through her wrists to her shoulders. Where the metallic scent of blood and burnt flesh should have filled her nostrils, there was only ozone and melted durasteel. She exhaled forcibly, hands shaking. The strength of the hovercraft had been a lot to strike against, and while she’d succeeded, it tipped her trembling left hand into overdrive as she sought to adapt to the change. She was so perplexed that she hardly noticed the movement of her opposition scrambling further away.

Hnng! She forcibly grit her teeth, biting away the shakes of her hands. Just in time for her to overhear the command from the Mongrel, and she narrowed her eyes at him, as if condemning his cowardice running away with dagger vision, and then snapping her gaze upward at the rapidly descending shadow.

Panic thudded behind her chest and she forced herself to move, quickly! Whichever direction worked best, she scattered, quickly darting as that shadow became more and more solid and collided noisily on the ground. Spatters of the duracrete ground splashed away from the collision, ripping up parts of the ground and tripping up Ishida as she managed to avoid the crate itself –– only to be smacked upside the head by part of the debris. The force was enough to knock her forward off her feet, and land right on her stomach. Air rushed from her lungs and she groaned for a moment, feeling nothing but...everything in a discombobulated, dizzy state. Her blades were still in her tenuous grip, and she elbowed herself upward.

Even with her ears ringing, and a thick pulsing behind her eyes, she could hear the dragging of a sword against the ground eerily close to her and an outrageous threat.

"Well, well, well, isn't this just perfect. I hope you're ready to become one with the Force, Jedi."

How dare he. How dare this mongrel consider themselves worthy to speak of The Force on her behalf, as an eternal resting place.

Swishing saliva in her mouth, she spat and forced herself to stand and squared up. Her expression locked in an eternally punishing glower.

Sardun would take the Mongrel, she’d protect him from this newcomer. There were many things she wanted to say to him, to counter his hubris, but her attacks would speak louder than any counter-argument. He spoke of The Force, so she met him with an offensive telekinetic blast in his direction, pushing him away from herself before she darted forward to charge. Still dizzy.

Fighting: The Mongrel The Mongrel | Zachariel Steelblood Zachariel Steelblood

A calm steady presence flowed over Ishida.

Peace and serenity. Remember your training, Padawan, do not let yourself be angered by vermin. And that was all the Jedi Master could spare, before his attention was entirely fixated on the Mongrel. It was clear that this cultist was their leader. Fast of wit, quick of tongue, this mongrel was the one to destroy, if they wanted to cut this raid off by its knees.

A hefty chunk of durasteel dashed into his shoulder as the crate fell by Mongrel's command. Something behind the armor groaned. Not a broken bone, but it hurt nonetheless.

Someone like Ishida could weave and spin through obstacles.

Michael? He drove through them with no regard for anything else. As the armored figure stepped forward his hands raised up. The Force rose up to meet him in kind. It rend the metal container, ripping through the steel, and send sharpened ore and metal shrapnel towards the cultist. "You are right, this cycle ends, I have found the way." The Jedi agreed, surprisingly, with the cultist.

"But it will not be by your hand."

For years now Michael had been hunting in the Netherworld. Destroying Sith Spirits, before they could resurrect, imprisoning those who were too strong to be shattered. His fortress stood between the Nether and reality. That was the only way to break this cycle that he could see.

"Yield and I will make your end quick."

Maybe or perhaps it would be better to make an example out of him.

Sardun was not yet sure.

Objective: 1
Weapons: Sword | Axe

His advance was quickly noticed and Zachariel felt the disdain and outrage coming from the smaller of the two, no doubt outraged at the gall he had to speak of the Force, and the larger one simply kept a core of inner peace about himself. It simply brought forth another laugh from Zachariel, even as he lifted his weapons from their scraping. Stopping, he took a closer look at the pair of Jedi, taking in their appearances and weapons. In particular, he focused his gaze on the large armored man, who he assumed would face him. The man stoo at 6'4", while Zachariel stood at 11' flat, quite the difference, but it was even greater between him and the other one.

Thus, Zachariel was caught by surprise by Ishida's attack, as his focus was mainly on the larger Jedi, who he took to be the Master. The Force blast did just that, blasting Zachariel backwards by several feet. And then he stopped just as suddenly, having dug his heels in and forced himself to stop, both with the Force and magnetic soles. Taking another glance back towards Michael, Zachariel noticed he was already moving to engage the Mongrel. That prompted a snarl from him, even as his gaze turned back towards the smaller Jedi.
"The pup comes to challenge me?!" He scoffed as Ishida dashed forward to engage him. "So you've chosen death."

A sneer crossed Zachariel's face before he launched himself forward as well. With his large size and bulky armor, no doubt she expected him to be slow and relentless. Zachariel aimed to disprove that immediately, launching himself forward with a roar, sword and axe already swinging to engage her.

In legends and holovids, the duels between great heroes and their sinister foes could go on and on, trading blow after blow with their laser-swords in a drawn-out dance of death. In The Mongrel's reality, his every encounter with Jedi was measured in seconds: seconds that he had left to live at any given moment. He was perpetually outmatched, not remotely an equal to even an apprentice in their mystic arts. He could not possibly win against these living gods. His only goal was survival, and his only tactics were to delay, evade, and misdirect. By then, he had survived enough encounters with Jedi and their ilk to develop strategies that generally worked against them...

... which just meant buying a few more seconds at a time.

The crate drop had exceeded his wildest hopes, not only putting a barrier between him and the oncoming warriors of light but actually wounding them; the woman had been knocked from her feet by the impact, and the armored man at least bruised by a wayward chunk of durasteel. With any luck, that injury to his arm would be enough to slow his swings. The Mongrel had no illusions about what would happen if he allowed even a single hammer blow to catch him, and he had no particular desire to become a slurry of red paste painting the station's walls. Still, it was only a temporary reprieve. Jedi were stubborn and self-righteous; they would keep coming after him.

Which was why it was a blessing indeed to have his desperate transmission to the Knyghts reach someone even more fearsome: his chosen Warlord, Zachariel Steelblood Zachariel Steelblood . The Mongrel bowed low as the founder and ruler of the Bloodsworn Tribe leapt from his shuttle and entered the field of battle, moving to engage the white-haired woman. The marauder had seen his master battle Jedi before, and knew that he was more than a match for the mage-knights. Steelblood would surely triumph, bringing glory to the Maw... but in a less reverent thought whispering at the back of his mind, The Mongrel found himself noticing that the Warlord had engaged the Jedi student.

That left him, with no skill in their mystic arts, to face the teacher.

As if in answer, the armored Jedi ripped through the blocking cargo crate with the power of his magic, an invisible hand tearing apart thousands of pounds of metal like an eager child shredding wrapping paper. A storm of metal fragments and chunks of ore flew from the container's ruined center, striking with deadly aim. Had The Mongrel been unarmored, they would have pierced his torso and annihilated his organs. As it was, the barrage slamming into his chestplate drove him back half a dozen steps, sharpened splinters making a horrific grating sound as they scraped across the surface of the durasteel armor. One shard, deflected upward, cut a long streak across his cheek.

The marauder was winded, gasping for air after the impacts, but he couldn't afford to take a moment to recover. Any moment now, Michael Sardun Michael Sardun would advance and finish the job. Still, The Mongrel laughed at his words. "Not at my hand? Of course not. None of us matter. There are a hundred thousand more like me, but even without them, this age will still collapse into fire and ruin. Everything ends. Everything dies." The Jedi was holding position for the moment, offering him a quick end. That made him stand out in the marauder's mind. Jedi he had encountered before, like Romi Jade Romi Jade , would have offered to spare him if he surrendered.

This one clearly had a different philosophy... one more like his own.

The Mongrel used the opportunity to back up, putting more space between him and the Jedi... and that massive hammer. If he could keep the armored titan talking, that might buy him an opportunity to think of how to survive the next few minutes. "Jedi and Sith have been killing each other for thirty thousand years... but there was a galaxy before them, and there will be a galaxy after. You seek victory through your stagnant traditions. We seek true rebirth." As he backed up, The Mongrel kept looking around, searching for more opportunities. Every moment he bought allowed his raiders to seize more and more of Outlander Station's valuable cargo.

Nothing in easy reach jumped out at him, so the marauder fell back on basic weapon tactics. The armored Jedi had easily repelled projectile weapons with his magic barrier, but that was why The Mongrel carried a wide variety of weapon types; all of the mage-knights seemed to have different defenses. This one didn't carry a lightsaber to deflect blaster bolts with, so perhaps the old standard would be effective. Letting his scattergun hang from its shoulder strap, The Mongrel thrust his arms forward, sliding a pair of blaster pistols down his sleeves and into his hands; he always went into battle strapped with a small armory's worth of concealed weapons. Raising them, he laid down a withering hail of fire, opening up on his foe with guns akimbo.

He didn't expect that it would kill Sardun, but how the mage-knight reacted to the blasterfire would at least tell him something about the Jedi's capabilities.

The holoterminal in front of the Vice Chancellor came to life as his fellow legislators cast their votes on the proposal to establish an Outbound Flight project. Each of them had various constituencies and special interests to consider, as well as the financial and defence implications for the Alliance as a whole. Tithe didn’t exercise his vote; while he could vote as the Honourable Member for Aargau, there was virtue to remaining impartial in the decision-making process.

“Indubitably,” he replied to Adhira. “We have just as much to gain from them as they do from us.” Democracy and freedom in exchange for precious resources and untapped markets. That sounded like a good deal to Tithe.

Overwhelmingly the chamber voted in favour of the proposal. While Tithe couldn’t use his comlink on the Senate floor, he trusted that his senior chief of staff was already reaching out to the key parties who would take the project forward to realisation. Wherever there were credits to be made, the Trade Federation could always be found.

“Yes, the, ah, ayes have it,” he proclaimed from the Chancellor’s Podium. “The motion passes, and many encomiums to the Honourable Member for Duro.”

“Now, to agenda item two,”
Tithe announced. While Outbound Flight now Senate approval, it was far from the only matter of business before them today. “A motion to inaugurate a commission into the exportation of agri-goods from the Botor sector…”

Not every Senate vote could be as exciting as the establishment of a pan-galactic exploration mission.

And yet, the wheels of democracy continued to turn.

The piercing red gaze moved from the Jedi to his daughter, his own lips tugging upward.

"I must say I envy her innocence, though I hope it stays intact. She brings us immense joy- the reason we do what we do, despite the harsh conditions."

A grimey hand extended, pulling a raven hair out of the girl's face. His expression was melancholic, but Ripley could see hope living there, too.

"I can only pray the Alliance aids us, and she will not grow up to know the same." He continued. "It's but half a life, working and working until you collapse, only to hardly be able to afford the roof over your head. The worst is not being able to do anything about it. If you so much as step a toe out of line, you're out of work, and they won't let you back on."

Ripley shook her head. The memories of Zardossa flooded her mind. With Ryv, she had put others to the sword for hurting the innocent. She had half a mind to do it again, her temper rising.

"Low pay, long hours... both things we can try to help fix. What else?"

The couple exchanged a look, Kin biting her lip. She nodded, as if urging her husband to go on.

"We are... but a ghost of what we used to be. It's not only proper pay we need, but rather, our peoples need self-sufficiency to rise to what we once were."

"Like infrastructure?" Ripley inquired.

"Yes," He nodded. "But also... external trade, not lorded over by outsiders." The words were careful, as if to not say too much.
