OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION
  • City Name: Kuramagi Academy
  • Classification: Academy
  • Location: Atrisia
  • Affiliation: Atrisian Commonwealth
  • Demographics:
  • Wealth: Low: Rebuilding, after Shoma was named heir and the battle of Atrisia resources were poured into restoring the academy to use it due to its proximity to Jar'Kai.
  • Stability: Low: Organized and stable due to being largely a military operation with Atrisian forces functioning within. The Atrisian Self Defense FOrce with their Kappa are the primary people within.
  • Description: Constructed by the old emperor of Atrisia as a gilded cage. The academy was to indoctrinate and imprison willing hostages that would be used to indoctrinate and secure them. Instead of being at the palace or Imperial city of Jar'kai instead they were here. Surrounded by elite soldiers, yovshin who served the emperors will and in rebellion happened, if a family disobeyed or failed the emperor their heirs could be killed.
    • The mountain city rose from the cliffs like an empire carved from myth, its layered temples and towering pagodas suspended between storm clouds and stone. White marble stairways climbed the mountainside in vast geometric lines, illuminated by bands of pale blue light that cut through the dim atmosphere like veins of energy flowing toward the summit. At the center of the highest terrace stood the grand palace itself, crowned in gold and ivory beneath jagged peaks that disappeared into drifting mist. Coiled around the mountain were colossal emerald dragons, their serpentine forms wrapped through the architecture as though the city had been built in reverence to them rather than beside them.

Below the upper sanctum, the city unfolded in terraces and circular districts connected by bridges arching over narrow waterways and deep ravines. Every structure carried the same elegant symmetry curved roofs trimmed in gold, stone courtyards etched with ancient symbols, and banners hanging motionless against the looming sky. At the heart of the lower district rested a massive ceremonial arena encircled by the body of another dragon, its scaled form acting as both monument and guardian. Tiny figures gathered across the platforms and courtyards, giving scale to the enormity of the complex and making the entire settlement feel less like a city and more like a sacred kingdom hidden beyond the reach of ordinary civilization.

Waterfalls spilled from openings in the mountain walls and disappeared into glowing canals that threaded through the settlements below, adding movement to the otherwise imposing stillness of the landscape. The surrounding mountain range stretched endlessly into the horizon beneath darkened clouds, creating the impression that this fortress-temple existed apart from the rest of the world entirely. Every angle of the city emphasized scale towering staircases, impossibly large statues, immense open plazas all designed to make those who entered feel dwarfed by the power, history, and ancient authority rooted within the mountain itself.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Aviary: Fully restored, its high-vaulted enclosures once again house a stunning collection of Atrisian birds from iridescent song-keets to silent hunting owls. Glass panels have replaced long-shattered windows, and a dedicated staff of caretakers maintain the habitats. Students visit for contemplation or study of zoology and falconry.

Observatory: The ancient orrery at its heart has been recalibrated by royal astrologers. Suspended spheres of brass and crystal now track the Atrisian system and major hyperspace routes, their slow orbits predicting seasons, festivals, and navigation windows. Adjacent classrooms teach cartography and celestial mechanics.

Reliquary: The maze-like repository with its preternaturally smooth alcoves remains an enigma. Restoration teams have carefully catalogued and preserved the scattered artifacts found within, but the origins of the carving remain unknown. It now serves as a museum and research wing, drawing archaeologists from across the Commonwealth. Some say the alcoves still hum with faint energy at certain times of the year.

Chamber of Exorcism: A heavy stone chamber from the time of the Lotus Emperors, once used to "purify" followers of old gods. It has been left intact as a historical site, its grim murals and iron restraints a solemn reminder of past cruelties. Sealed by a respectful barrier, it is visited only by advanced history students under supervision.

Water Gardens: No longer a guarded prison of beauty, the golden Sarnoian stone shines amidst replanted fruit trees and flowering shrubs. The pools and fountains have been cleared and restocked with koi and lotus. Turret towers that once held watching Yovshin now host small tea houses and meditation pavilions, offering views over the cascading water. It is a favorite retreat for students and faculty alike.

Offices: The administrative buildings have been refurbished with polished wooden desks, silk-draped lanterns, and modern data terminals discreetly integrated into traditional cabinetry. Academy staff coordinate logistics, curriculum, and diplomatic correspondence here, replacing the rotted detritus of the forgotten years.

Classrooms: The stone walkways linking tiered lecture halls and seminar rooms are once again trodden by students. Rooms now feature holographic displays cunningly disguised as scroll paintings, and acoustics have been enhanced with subtle resonator crystals, allowing instruction on everything from philosophy to lightsaber combat.

Dormitories: Private rooms and shared bunks have been refurnished with comfortable bedding, heating braziers, and secure storage. Some suites preserve the configuration for personal guards or servants, reflecting traditions of noble households. Dedicated common rooms foster camaraderie, and residential advisors (often retired Yovshin) ensure safety and discipline now genuinely protective, not punitive.

SECURITY
Maximum - The restored academy maintains a moderate security posture, blending its natural defenses with a modern guard force. Wide sightlines, thick walls, and defensive towers once designed to keep students in now serve to keep threats out. The mountain chokepoints are fortified, and patrols of Commonwealth soldiers and a small contingent of Yovshin keep order. Visitors are welcomed but screened at the Dragons Gate. While far from a fortress in its current state, Kuramagi is no longer undefended.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Built originally atop the ruins of the mysterious city. Rock carvings, runes and what could amount to records cited and dated back thousands of years but the inhabitants who were there originally left will evidence of who they were or where they had gone. The crossing of the Nhai mountains led through through the passing that would become in time the Dragons Gate. The first construct was a small fort on the hill to protect the pass, wooden walls, some barracks and in the distance the city of Xianlong or what would become it eventually.

Centuries passed and with age the wood became stone, engineering marvels and with more people, with more fighitng the danger of invsion merited the Dragons Gate and the fortress to become stronger. To become larger and a military fort was made. The inner chamber and outer walls leading the way through it all. THey continued to build up the fortress and hundreds of years later as the conquest began. Petty rulers and warlords across the regions, across the continent were being put down by a family.

It was that family that came to the gate and demanded fealty from the commander. Battle broke out and seeing the united forces of the conquered lords and ladies who had been leading elements of them. the second in command urged they that outlast them. THey had full stocks and supplies, the higher ground, defensive positons, they had little to nothing able to get around them not for miles and there was battle hardened soldiers within their ranks not in some cases green soldiers who had been pulled to fill ranks.

The commander of it Shoma Yi refused and sought honorable combat against this commander. THis Jade Empress who stood with what would one day be called the Yovshin, her own elite and personal guards to protect herself and her son. The teenage ruler. Against her he stood as the Last Warlord and the battle was deigned one on one. The fight ended after a day of battle between the two, neither giving up as both suffered wounds and the Jade Empress died two days after Shoma. In honor of his the boy Chiyu wed his daughter and made her his empress.

Thousands of years later as the Atrisian Empire was greater coming to the galactic stage it was rebuilt, the fortress improved upon and given more of a defensive position. Barracks for the soldiers and yovshin, the forests round it was cleared with walls built as it went up and up and up the mountains of Nhai with the top most towers overlooking everything across the region. Able to see it clearly from above the clouds. The levels of the fortress had battlements to allow archers to rain down arrows and blaster shots on enemies.

Still later the Fourth Emperor of Pearl fashioned it and brought it back. Planting trees, constructing dorms and rooms, offices and gardens. It wouldn't be until his grandson populated it with students, with children from his lords and ladies at court. Then soldiers and yovshin to ensure that they were protected, threats and the risks of their being disloyal in the dance betwen his sister and himself. Her wanting to return to the old ways, to the old dynasty of the Lotus Emperors and Empresses.

THe threats were to his lords and ladies, serve him or else their heirs and hopes for their houses would be lost. THe firstborne children were kept there for years... some being indoctrinated to serve the emperor even if their parents rebelled. They would be forever loyal.. even his own daughter attending at the time. After his madness cost him the support of his closest allies and childhood friends to Tagashi and Ike houses, saw the destruction of the Li-Ves clan and the fall of his own as he and his sister were both killed.

Their deaths were seen under mysterious circumstances and rumors of them fighting because they were together. Once the line of their house was gone a new lord a distant cousin claimed it. Their house was key to overthrowing and finishing it off but they were judged harshly. THe more honorable lines, Tagashi, Ike, Ichiro, Tching but more was the shame seen. Jirei the new emperor who ascended after his father died couldn't bring himself to forgive or praise them. Honorable fighters didn't kill women or children.. they just didn't punish them.

Jurei died within the year at Kuramagi after closing it, some fo the students who had fled deeper into the mountain emerged and thought him there to ensure they were killed. Tching ascended to the throne of Atrisia and ruled for thousands of years from their seat at Jar'kai but still the fortress and academy remained sealed. A haunted place, a dark place where most feared to tread. Rumors and legends came up about students wandering the pathways, kimono wearing teachers who lure them in and exact vengeance upon them.

The emperors who followed, the houses that followed left Kuramagi in ruin.. barely thinking about it and as the ruins continued to age they avoided most of the major events. THe plague didn't infect the legends of ghosts, the netherworld couldn't claim the dead and the darkness was passed over like the blink of an eye... it might not have been great. it was barely touched until a few sith and jedi battled on Atrisia tearing areas of it asunder... destroying Jar'Kai and turnign Xianlong into the new capital.

With the new capital the Cherry Blossom Emperor named Shoma Ike as his heir and a restoration and recovery effort across the planet was started. To restore the world and try to heal it as Kuramagi was given to a team who started to investigate the legends around it and document what they could find for fact and fiction. With that though they still have not done much in the way of returning fortifications or giving it soldiers but clearing some of the overgrown branches and fruit trees that is important.

After the Cherry Blossom Emperor named Shoma Ike his heir, the restoration of Kuramagi began in earnest. What started as a historical documentation project evolved into a full reconstruction, funded by the crown and led by scholars, engineers, and descendants of the very houses once held hostage there. Over a decade, the overgrowth was cleared, haunted legends were respectfully investigated and laid to rest, and the academy was reimagined as a center for learning and diplomacy. Today, it stands as a symbol of the Commonwealth's renewal a place where the heirs of Atrisia's noble families, along with promising students from all walks of life, come to study governance, martial arts, and the mysteries of the Force, all while carrying forward the memory of those who suffered within these walls.
