Form VI: Niman - The Moderation Form
History and Philosophy:
To understand Niman is to understand a fundamental Jedi principle: balance. It is the embodiment of the idea that a Jedi is more than a warrior; we are scholars, diplomats, and guardians. Its history is as layered as its technique.
The style's roots are ancient and somewhat paradoxical. It was first practiced by the Royale Macheteros of the Kashi Mer Dynasty, named for their dual triumvirate of deities. It was then adopted and corrupted by the Legions of Lettow, Dark-siders of the First Great Schism. After their defeat, the Jedi Order saw the core value within the style balance and refined it, purging the aggressive elements and creating the sixth form we know today. Remember, Padawans, even from darkness, light can find a useful tool.
Its primary philosophy is moderation. Unlike forms that demand extreme specialization in defense or aggression, Niman seeks a harmonious blend of elements from all the previous forms. It is the "jack-of-all-trades," designed for the Jedi who must devote their true focus to the higher pursuits of the Force: diplomacy, meditation, and knowledge. It is the diplomat's form, adequate for the common dangers of peacekeeping but never intended for the fury of a full-scale war. This was its great failing at the First Battle of Geonosis, where its generalist nature proved insufficient against the sheer, concentrated violence of the battlefield. It is a form for peace, not war.
Key Maneuvers and Application:
The genius of Niman is not in overwhelming bladework, but in its seamless integration of the Force into combat. It compensates for its technical moderation with tactical creativity. Two maneuvers exemplify this:

It was then adopted and corrupted by the Legions of Lettow, Dark-siders of the First Great Schism. After their defeat, the Jedi Order saw the core value within the style balance and refined it, purging the aggressive elements and creating the sixth form we know today.
- Draw Closer: This technique is about control and economy of motion. Rather than lunging forward to meet an opponent and potentially overextending, a Niman practitioner uses the Force to telekinetically seize their foe and pull them into a waiting blade. It is a definitive action that turns the enemy's momentum against them, ending a confrontation with minimal effort. It is not about powerful grabs, but precise, sudden tugs that break an opponent's footing and balance at a critical moment.
- Pushing Slash: Where Draw Closer pulls the enemy in, the Pushing Slash expels them. The duelist delivers a sharp, often disabling slash—to a weapon arm or leg—and immediately follows it with a concussive Force push to blast the wounded opponent aside. This serves a dual purpose: it neutralizes the immediate threat by creating significant distance, and it demoralizes other combatants by demonstrating the Jedi's command over the entire engagement. It is a clear statement of dominance through combined mastery of saber and Force.
