OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: The Globex Corporation
  • Affiliation: Globex Security Divison
  • Market Status: Open-Market
  • Model: Atmospheric Drone: Defence / Reconnaissance, aka the AD∶D/R or Adder.
    • Sometimes referred to as 'Aerodrones' (as opposed to space-capable drones) by Globex Security.
  • Modularity: Aesthetics, loadout (hardpoint loadout can be changed relatively quickly), programming (e.g., standard or myrmidon), etc.
    • AD∶D/Rs can be outfitted with a shield generator, but this requires a more expensive power system and therefore greatly increases the cost of individual units. Most commanders prefer having three unshielded units to having two shielded units.
    • Can be coated in Camofibre to lower perceptibility; most effective against low-tech opponents.
  • Production: Mass-Produced
  • Material: Hexalloy Compound w/ Ablative Coating
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
  • Classification: Class Four
  • Weight: Average
  • Height: Large
  • Movement: Repulsorlift (RGM)
  • Armaments: Modular loadout, sorted by slot.
  • Misc. Equipment: All standard equipment; sensors, anti-virus software, etc.
    • Can be equipped with 'sensor blisters' for enhanced surveillance; larger blisters replace the Wing Mounts.
  • Resistances: Moderate armouring; ordinarily unshielded.
    • Energy Weapons: High
    • Kinetic Weapons: High
    • Lightsabers: None
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • AD∶D/Rs are outfitted with the precise sensors and long-range comms capabilities required of an aerial scout; they are capable of extended operations across large geographical areas without refuelling or landing. If necessary, they can be refuelled in the air by other drones.
    • AD∶D/Rs have power capacities comparable to their Skyhornet predecessors, namely 'several hours of intensive combat', but due to the inclusion of a Repulsion Glide Modulator they are able to remain in the air for significantly longer assuming minimal altitude changes. It is not unheard of for an AD∶D/R to stay airborne for weeks or even months without resupply.
  • AD∶D/Rs utilise reliable stabilisation technologies to maintain accurate firing vectors even during complex manoeuvres.
STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
  • Discount Gunship: AD∶D/Rs are small (compared to gunships), lightweight, cheap-ish, and agile - ideal for providing air support to infantry.
  • Bird of Prey: AD∶D/Rs possess an RGM and therefore generate energy by diving; conversely, they consume more energy than most when ascending. This most commonly manifests as an increase/decrease in weapon output depending on whether the droid is diving or climbing.
  • Heavy Weapons: While decently armoured, AD∶D/Rs cannot withstand missile launchers, laser cannons, and other heavy weapons.
DESCRIPTION
AD∶D/Rs are an evolution of the older Skyhornet, a stable of Globex's security forces. They retain their role (reconnaissance and light air support) and have an almost chassis. The weapons loadout has been diversified, however, and the four wing mounts replaced by two heavier hardpoints.

The internal modifications are more significant - the chassis has been reinforced in key places based on years of combat data, the sensors and to a lesser degree the power system slightly improved, and most importantly of all, every system has been rebuilt to function optimally alongside the Repulsion Glide Modulator. Finally, certain electronic and mechanical parts have been simplified to ease maintenance and lower costs.

The end result is a potent aircraft in a cost-effective package. Whether occupied with lengthy reconnaissance flights, aiding law enforcement and supporting advancing infantry, or engaged in rapid-response territorial defence, the AD∶D/R has what it takes to excel.
