- As a vast improvement over the previous model of shipyard station, the Archadia makes use of Aurora's latest defensive technologies to protect itself and includes multiple point defense systems to further augment the armor and shielding provided by the Titan and Kirin systems respectively.
- Much like the venerable Crucible-class Orbital that the Archadia-class is replacing, the exterior construction bays can be configured to support the construction of various numbers and sizes of ships at any given time. Some examples of possible configurations are:
Configurations | Types of Ships Produced | Number of Ships Produced |
|---|---|---|
Heavy Configuration | Battlecruisers and Star Destroyers (Ships over 1000 meters) | Twenty-Four |
Medium Configuration | Cruisers and Frigates (Ships between 200 and 1000 meters) | Forty-Eight |
Light Configuration | Corvettes and non-Starfighter Starships (Ships between 50 and 200 meters) | Seventy-Two |
- Each construction bay ring is connected directly to one of Aurora Industries' molecular furnaces and its supporting network of fabrication facilities and workshops, ensuring a steady supply of materials and components for the starships under construction within the rings.
WEAKNESSES
- Much like the Crucible, though the Archadia can rely upon its armor, shielding, and point defense emplacements for its defense, it does not have any offensive weaponry of its own such as turbolasers or ion cannons.
- Although the Archadia is capable of going to hyperspace, through both its Madeen Shiftsrive and tug ships, it does not have any sublight engines and thus can't move. The Archadia, if it comes under attack, is a large target for enemy forces to focus on that can't move out of the way or take evasive actions.
As the Highwind Program for Aurora Industries continued to gain renewed steam for its production models, the company was also facing a new question. For decades now, Aurora Industries had utilized its Crucible-class orbital docks as their primary shipbuilding facilities, when a dedicated facility had not been constructed that is such as the facilities in Commonwealth space or in the Centrality. The Crucible, as determined by both CEO Taeli Raaf and COO Merryn Sellek, were starting to show their age and their limitations were clear from the era they were constructed. Large ship production such as battlecruisers had been incredibly limited when the company first designed the Crucible, but with the advent and rediscovery of manufacturing techniques since the Age of Darkness came to an end, larger stations and starships were becoming commonplace once again. The Crucible was also far more limited in the number of ships it could produce at a time.
To rectify this, the company greenlit the construction and development of a new orbital shipyard model to phase out and replace the Crucible as their orbital production facilities. Thus, the Archadia-class Dockyard was developed. The new Archadia was significantly larger than the Crucible and opted for a more skyhook-esque appearance with rotating circular docking and construction rings that could be moved into various configurations. The new construction rings could build far more ships than the Crucible and each was connected to a molecular furnance with a supporting network of internal workshops and fabricators for a continuous supply of material and components. The Archadia was also designed with the latest in Aurora Industries' defensive technologies with the Titan armor system and the Kirin shielding system augmented with Leviathan point defense emplacements.
The Archadia, with its expanded size, was also able to store vast quantities of materials over the Crucible and employ far more engineers and other crewmembers to oversee production. Numerous small craft production hangars scattered across the main superstructure and uniform internal research laboratories meant that Aurora scientists and technicians stationed on an Archadia would have access to needed designs and R&D readouts from other Aurora facilities, along with the ability to develop new technologies as well.
