As part of Aurora Industries' Aeon Program, engineers at the company began working on its third generation of Otherspace-capable hyperdrives. The company had made thorough use of the system designed around the old A-XX 200 and the A-EX 400, but both systems were starting to show their limitations and the engineers began experimenting with a new way to engage an Otherspace jump. The new method that was settled upon involved using a specially redesigned paralight system to feed data and commands into the hyperdrive to trigger a specific radiation output from the horizontal boosters and alluvial dampers. This output, combined with the modified hyperspace corridors created by the company's null quantum field generator, would alter the ripples of the space-time continuum used in hyperspace travel to essentially shift the equipped starship into Otherspace.
The Madeen was also designed to be utilized as a standard hyperdrive, rating a Class I on cruiser sized ship and smaller and a Class II on larger ships such as destroyers. However, the company had also begun research into the Path Engines utilized in ancient times by the Nihil and more recently by the Brotherhood of the Maw. With so many starships destroyed or damaged during the war, and plenty of profiteers scouring old battlefields for components for sale, the company was able to acquire several Path Engines for study. While it would not be as efficient as following the feelings of a Force User utilizing instinctive astrogation to locate and follow the Paths, the company designed an integrated droid brain hosting a virtual intelligence based on their previous work with the company's MASS targeting system and Noetikon crystal matrixes that could calculate usable Paths for an equipped starship to utilize.

- Like its predecessors, the Madeen Hyperdrive is designed to allow travel between Otherspace and Realspace for any equipped starship, although further refinement and research into traversal has resulted in a deviation from Aurora Industries' original method of manipulating the hyperdrive field and null quantum field generator.
