As part of Aurora Industries' Aeon Program, the company began working on a new communications suite and array for use in its next generation starships and other possible vehicles and facilities. The engineers in charge of developing the project decided to develop a two-tiered system, working off the smaller Neahtid earpieces developed by the company for infantry soldiers and integrating standard communication technologies found in other systems.
Larger nihil smokestone, hiridiu crystals, and seoularian crystals would be needed for the project, along with integrating the crystals into the transceivers of the system to increase the range and strength of the system beyond intra-system communications. The crystalline matrix was developed with the Seoularian Crystal acting as the heart of the telepathic network, attuning with key crystals and larger anchor crystals to form a network that could span several sectors with the smokestone being integrated into a new earpiece that would read and transmit thoughts when touched through the crystal and the transceivers after the mental transmission was enhanced by the hiridiu crystals.
The second system makes use of standard communications equipment such as subspace and hyperwave transceivers along with encryption modules to ensure any Syldra equipped ship can still receive messages and transmissions from other communications suites such as the prolific Mercury. As an additional feature that interacts with both systems contained within the Syldra is an integrated TranLang III protocol module to allow for instant translations so long as the language or thought is made with one of the six million forms of communication included in the module.

- Continuing the general variable design philosophy of Aurora Industries, the Syldra makes use of two distinct communication systems and styles:
- The first system is based upon the telepathic communication network Aurora Industries began testing with their Neahtid Earpieces. This system makes use of nihil smokestones combined with hiridiu and seoularian crystals to form a large telepathic network, working in concert with the various transceivers of the system to project thoughts across much greater distances to other ships and facilities that have the Syldra installed and making sure the vast majority of transmissions cannot be detected through normal means such as eavesdropping equipment.
