SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Titan Hull Plating is designed in a three-tier layered system:
    • Layer 1 or the Outer Plating is a duralloy-hijarna stone compound designed by Aurora Industries to provide incredibly high defenses against energy and ion-based weaponry due to the special energy absorption properties of the hijarna stone and the strength of the duralloy.
    • Layer 2 is a thin low-level deflector shield created by micro-scaled shield emitters placed inbetween the first and third layers of the hull plating system. This is designed to further reduce energy weapon fire and kinetic weapons while providing some level of shielding in case the ship's primary shielding system has been reduced or rendered inoperable.
    • Layer 3 or the Inner Plating is micro-layered and overlapping sheets of trimantium and laminanium interspersed with the AR-0B damage reduction armor component's ablative current to reduce energy blasts that have pierced the first two layers and kinetic weaponry. The laminanium at this layer also provides a limited ability for this section of the hull plating to repair itself, although minor damage will repair itself much faster than major damage.
STRENGTHS
  • Three-tired system of defense provides a very high defense against energy and kinetic weaponry, centered on the properties of the hijarna stone to absorb energy attacks such as lasers, turbolasers, ion blasts, and other energy weaponry along with the duralloy components and its continued strengths as starship-grade armor. The inclusion of a deflector shield sandwiched between the first and third tier of the system increases this ability while providing limited emergency shielding for the ship in case its main shielding system goes down.
  • The inner plating of the armor is able to repair itself due to the laminanium present, giving any ships equipped with the system an ability to repair some damage to its hull on its own. Minor damage to the hull can repair itself quickly, while major damage can take some time.
WEAKNESSES
  • Corrosive materials can have a devastating effect on the armor plating as it can easily reduce the stone-laced outer plating and hamper the ability of the inner plating to repair itself.
  • Sonic weaponry can shatter the first layer of the system due to a strange harmonic resonance the compound has, reducing its effectiveness and creating gaps to the second and third layer.
  • While the laninanium present can repair the inner layer of the plating system, it cannot repair the outer layer if it is damaged or destroyed, requiring drydock time to fix the vessel. In addition, while it can repair minor damages fairly quickly, major damage can take hours if not days to repair itself and could still require drydock time for the ship to reach full operability.
DESCRIPTION

As part of Aurora Industries' Aeon Program, the Titan-type Advanced Plating is designed to be the company's first true hull plating system since its earliest days as Krayt Industries and the matrix armor it had produced in those days. Aurora engineers were faced with the challenge of creating something that was protective, but also held to the company's design philosophy of versatility. In pursuit of that mission, they created a hull plating system that would consist of three supportive layers for high levels of protection from all manner of attacks.

The first part of the Titan plating, Layer I or the Outer Plating, was created by creating a compound between duralloy and hijarna stone that would give the armor the energy absorption properties of the fabled stone from Hijarna while retained the strength of duralloy and its reputation as starship-grade armor.

The second part of the Titan plating, Layer II, was not armor plating itself, but rather a field of micro-scaled deflector shield emitters tied into the starship's power systems. This would allow the ship to produce a low-level deflector shield between the two layers of actual armor, enhancing its abilities to reduce damage from energy and kinetic weaponry while providing some additional shielding in case the equipped ship's primary shielding system was knocked out or sustaining fire. Engineers heard from testers that this additional layer of shielding, low-level though it might be, gave them an increased peace of mind.

The third part of the Titan plating, Layer III or the Inner Plating, was created by layering sheets of trimantium and laminanium while including the AR-0B damage reduction ablative current through the sheets. This would allow increased kinetic and energy protection while giving this section of the hull plating the ability to repair itself, even if the outer plating was destroyed in that section.
