SPECIAL FEATURES
STRENGTHS
  • Its primary weapon is the Inferno MetaCannon. This cannon is both very powerful and capable of loading and firing a broad variety of ammunition shells. Unlike with the conventional MetaCannon, it does not require a barrel change. This makes the tank very versatile.
  • Heavily armoured.
WEAKNESSES
  • It uses tracked propulsion and is thus not as fast as repulsor vehicles. Moreover, it is not capable of traversing dangerous or unstable terrain. This also makes it susceptible to mines and attacks targeting its treads, which may disable them, making the vehicle become stationary.
  • The main cannon is heavy and generates high recoil. Unlike most laser weaponry, the Inferno has considerable kick to it. The tank is able to manage without being knocked around, but this has required the vehicle to be big and heavy. This has made it a big, distinctive target.
DESCRIPTION

Vivian: We are naming a huge battle tank after something out of Kar'zun mythology? I can imagine the reaction of Eldorai focus groups.
Kaylah Danton: Kerrigan would be loving this.

In Kar'zun mythology, Zar'varik is the name of a destructive war hammer that is said to have been the weapon used by their god Zak’zakada to forge the world, raise mountains and beat down valleys. This makes it a fitting name for a big war machine. The primary weapon of the Zar'varik Heavy Battle Tank is a MetaCannon variant. Like its parent model, it is able to fire different types of ammunition such as high energy laser, proton shells, ion bolts, and many others. Unlike the old MetaCannon, which requires barrel changes, the Inferno uses shells loaded with various charges chambered into a singular breach and barrel of the weapon.

Using this design, the cannon is able to fire different charges without changes to the weapon, but with changes to the ammunition within the loaded shell. Examples for ordnance would be particle beams, charric maser beams, anti-armour laser blasts, ion surges, plasma charges, solar ionization pulses for shielded targets, proton shells, and solid slugs. These can all be loaded into the weapon among a handful of others. Generally the cannon loads the shell from the right of the weapon with the gunner aiming from the left.

Ammunition is fed from the storage compartment and activated via a belt system as they are removed from the magazine beneath the crew compartment where they can be easily selected and placed into the breach by the vehicles loader. The gunner controls the turrets elevation, traverse and the weapon with a right handed control stick and pedals. The downside of the Inferno is that it is heavy and, unlike most laser weapons, generates a lot of recoil.

The Zar'varik can handle the kickback, but as a tradeoff it is big and heavy. This makes the vehicle difficult to knock around, but also means it presents a big target for enemy fire, and lacks agility. In short, it is a lumbering beast. For this reason, screening by more mobile tanks as well as infantry is crucial. Its main gun makes the tank versatile, but it requires support to be at its most effective.

A shattergun rotary cannon or a Hellfire AutoCannon provide the tank with an excellent anti-personnel weapon. The shattercannon can penetrate medium vehicle armour, and the Hellfire is still good against light vehicles. Moreover, a Vanquisher Light Repeating Blaster can scythe infantry. Two 60mm proton mortars provide indirect fire anti-Infantry weapons and can flush enemy soldiers out of entrenched defences.

The tank is amphibious, allowing it to fully submerge in water and still operate for up to two hours, based on the air supply within the vehicle. The tank can remain functional even if a track is destroyed or damaged. It retains at least partial mobility with only two tracks left, though this will severely reduce its speed. The use of tracked propulsion makes the tank susceptible to mines and other ground based propulsion. A six inch thick dozer-blade has been attached to the front of the weapon, allowing it to take heavy fire forwardly, as well as clear away mines and explosives. Electromagnetic shielding enhances the tank's resilience against ion and EMP attacks, while an Active Protection system defends the tank against incoming guided missile systems. The tank possesses slat armor, reactive armor, and track guards defending its key locations. Moreover, a strong ray shield is in place to protect the tank against energy weapons.
