PRODUCTION INFORMATION
Manufacturer
: Firemane Industries
Affiliation: Firemane Industries
Market Status: Closed-Market
Model: FM-MC1a
Modularity: Cannon can be loaded with and fire a variety of ordnance. Various armoured fighting vehicles (e.g. tank, self-propelled artillery or walker) can be equipped with it. However, it is not practical to attach the weapon to a light or repulsorlift vehicle. Can also be modified for use as a turret and be scaled for use on starships.
Production: Limited
Material: Turadium, Beskar Barrel Casing, Proton Cannon Components, MetaCannon Components.

Ammunition Capacity: Average
Effective Range: Battlefield
Rate of Fire: Average
Damage Output: Extreme
Recoil: High
SPECIAL FEATURES

  • The Inferno cannon loads variable ammunition shells into its breach, such as charric maser beams, Proton, standard anti-armour laser, old-fashioned shell projectiles or ion. It is then able to fire from the same breach and barrel. This is an improvement on the ancient MetaCannon, which could fire different types of ordnance, but required a barrel change.
STRENGTHS
  • Variable ammunition loadout. Unlike the standard weapon, it can to fire them from the same breach and barrel. Thus it can fire variable ammunition loadouts without a lengthy barrel change like its ancient cousins.
  • Impressive firepower and range.
WEAKNESSES
  • The cannon is heavy. With turadium components and a beskar barrel for defense and durability, the Inferno is heavy for its size making dual and triple mounts unwieldy.
  • Recoil is high. Unlike most laser weaponry, the Inferno has considerable kick to it. It is known for causing significant enough recoil to potentially rock around the vehicle it is meant to be built into, making it a poor weapon for repulsorlift or light vehicles. It can be scaled for starship use, such as on a Star Destroyer, but is too large for a starfighter.
DESCRIPTION

The Inferno is an improvement upon the venerable MetaCannon variant of old. Like its parent model it is able to fire different types of ammunition such as high energy laser, proton shells, ion bolts, and many others. Unlike the old MetaCannon which requires barrel changes, the Firestorm uses shells loaded with various charges chambered into a singular breach and barrel of the weapon, similar to the Proton Cannon of the Clone Wars.

Using this design, the cannon is able to fire different charges without changes to the weapon, but with changes to the ammunition within the loaded shell. Examples for ordnance would be particle particle beams, charric maser beams, anti-armour laser blasts, ion surges, plasma charges, solar ionization pulses for shielded targets, proton shells, and solid slugs. These can all be loaded into the weapon among a handful of others.

Usually the Inferno loads the shell from the right of the weapon with the gunner aiming from the left. Ammunition is fed from the storage compartment and activated via a belt system as they are removed from the magazine beneath the crew compartment where they can be easily selected and placed into the breach by the vehicles loader. The gunner controls the turrets elevation, traverse and the weapon with a right handed control stick and pedals. The downside of the cannon is that it is heavy and generates a high degree of recoil. As a result, the weapon is not suited for repulsorlift vehicles, as those would risk being rocked around if they fired it.
