- NZ SLAB-01 SubLight AfterBurner : Allows for the vessel to temporarily boost its speed beyond its normal operational capacity.
- NZ AIMS-01 Active Internal Maneuvrability System: Allows for the Vessel to boost its maneuvrability beyond its normal operational capacity.
- Robustly Built: Lower maintainance, a tested and proven design concept enhanced by modern day materials produced either in-house or by known partners, this vessel is easy to maintain, less likely to actually need repair and capable of withstanding long useage.
- Highly automated: For the sake of ease of use, the majority of systems are either half or fully automated, allowing for smoother operations with a much lower need for on-board personel. This in turn allows for more space for transport, troops and cargo due to the lack of internal walkways and operation room for manual labor and controls.
- Wellrounded design: With little to no actually truly weakspots in its design, the Upsilon II - Class/D Troop Transport Shuttle is capable of being deployed in a myriad of situations and in a wide variety of roles ranging from freighter to full on troop transport or even as a lower budget executive shuttle.
- Highly automated: Due to the high automation of the ship, should the operating system and AI be shut down or otherwise compromised, maintaining full operational functionality is practically impossible. with only the bare minimum of systems such as lifesupport being capable of manual controls, this ship would need a full reboot or maintainance should such a thing occur, which isn't ideal in any situation.
- Needs a lot of space: Due to its orthodox wing-folding when stationary, this vessel takes in a lot of space which could have otherwise been used more practically by other types of vessels, as such it takes in twice the space of other comparable support craft.
While usually, the N&Z prides itself on having its own designs and plans for each of its types of starcraft, an old design was being looked at, at the request of the Diarchy; an important client and partner to the massive conglomorate. As such, the N&Z shipyards and the N&Z EnSol division were tasked with overhauling and reinvigorating the design of the Upsilon-class Command Shuttle , a task which they took to heart with great applomb.
The first alterations that were made, were the choices of the materials, with the N&Z's pride on the line, the choice for a tubular skeletal frame made out of the Ersteel SLCA reinforced with HPI's Druetium was a clear and concise choice, which was added to by also including the use of the company's patented polycarbonite compounds and more of the HPI Consortium's materials in the form of the relatively new Seigurium Light as a means to have a sturdy, yet still cost effective design.
The plating itself was coated with tetra-polycarbonite lamellar compound for added protection against radiation and electrokinetic damage, the old design's shield system was thrown out of the window for the patented SIXTUS shield package in order to provide much greater security, while the old lay out of six pilots, gunners, etc was replaced by the highly capable ATHENA DCOS, while retaining only a pilot and copilot/communications officer combination for the ship's overall operations, making more room in the cargobay of the vessel.
Upon completion of the first prototypes, the name was chosen to remain somewhat the same in the form of the Upsilon II-Class, with the added /D suffix in order to denote it as a Diarchy exclusive design, though considering the company's ties to several other factions, other varieties specifically for those factions are still considered open as options. However, the design would follow the requested specifications by the Diarchy, which upon its attempts to establish itself in the galaxy, needed a much broader navy and the Upsilon II would have a very important role as a small jack of all trades, allowing it to be a crucial part in civic and military duties for and to the Diarchy's navy...
