The War for Valen (Space)

Hello! To supplement the wonderful work @[member="Soliael Devin Talith"] has done on the surface of Valen, there will be an optional fleeting section of this event.

You may be in this fleeting section as well as the main ground component.

Information about the Valen System is included below:

The Valen System

Name: Valen I
Distance from Star (in AU): 0.3
Radius: 2,300
Day Cycle: 39 Hours
Year Cycle: 81 Days
Moons: 0
Atmosphere: N/A
Inhabitants: N/A
Useful Resources: Mineral ores might be available, but the conditions make exploiting them almost impossible.
Description: Valen I is an airless ball of rock orbiting uncomfortably close to the system’s star. Other than some minor volcanic activity caused by close passage to the sun, there is little of interest here.

Name: Valen II
Distance from Star (in AU): 0.55
Radius: 4,100
Day Cycle: 98 days
Year Cycle: 181 days
Moons: 1: 250km radius. Named Valen IIa. The moon is likely a large asteroid trapped in orbit. It too could be mined for minerals.
Atmosphere: Type IV
Inhabitants: N/A
Useful Resources: Minerals including gold, copper, iron and rare earth elements. Most importantly though Agrocite has been detected in significant amounts near the equator.
Description: The second planet from the sun, Valen II is mostly lacking in atmosphere and has a relatively low gravity. However, the planet’s crust contains rare and extremely valuable minerals. The planet does not make things easy. The day side of the world roasts at over 250 degrees and lethal radiation floods that side. Fortunately the planet has a very slow rotational period meaning that less than two days is equal to a year on the planet. This means that miners could land and extract ore from the night time side before departing when dawn approaches. The planet’s single moon is also a possibility for harvesting.

Name: Valen III
Distance from Star (in AU): 0.8
Radius: 9,300km
Day Cycle: 19 hours
Year Cycle: 250 days
Moons: 1: 850km. Named Valen IIIa. The moon’s dark side never faces the sun, making it perfect for mining or other bases.
Atmosphere: Type III
Inhabitants: None, but dome settlements are possible.
Useful Resources: Some Cortosis and Agrocite ore. Water ice can be found in the poles especially in winter. Other elements such as lithium, sulphur and iron are found in large amounts.
Description: Valen III’s oddly yellow/brown appearance makes it seem of dubious use. However, the planet’s consistent gravity and thin atmosphere make it the second best planet for long term settlement and bases. Using domes or underground settlements, a substantial population could live on Valen III. The yellow colour of the planet is caused by the unusual amount of sulphur on the planet, often mixed with iron and other rarer elements. The poles contain a large amount of water ice though terraforming the planet is likely not possible due to the poor soil.

Name: Valen IV (The inhabited one)
Distance from Star (in AU): 1.15
Radius: 11,950km
Day Cycle: 25 hours
Year Cycle: 390 days
Moons: 1 named Kyros. Kyros is around 1,100km in diameter. The moon is thought to have been made by an impact with a large body which excavated matter into orbit. Therefore the moon contains much Cortosis as well as other valuable minerals.
Atmosphere: Type I
Inhabitants: 500 million (estimated)
Useful Resources: Cortosis
Description: See http://starwarsrp.net/topic/15647-the-war-for-valen/

Name: Valen V
Distance from Star (in AU): 4
Radius: 28,000km
Day Cycle: 9 hours
Year Cycle: 7.5 years
Moons: 8, of which Valen Vd and Valen Vf are notable.
Valen Vd contains an extraordinary amount of volcanic activity, and as a result has diamonds and other gemstones can be found near the large volcanic rifts along with other ores. The moon is extremely dangerous though.
Valen Vf on the other hand is a small asteroid that seems almost entirely composed of silver and copper. It has no gravity or atmosphere though, so is very difficult to mine.
Atmosphere: Type IV
Inhabitants: N/A
Useful Resources: The planet’s atmosphere contains large amounts of methane, ammonia, hydrogen and some helium.
Description: Valen V is the first gaseous planet in the system. Though of smaller than average size for such worlds, it is very typical of such worlds. The planet is of key strategic importance as it controls access to the inner system and the main world of Valen IV. Mining the planet’s moons and atmosphere could provide useful riches.

Name: Asteroid Belt
Distance from Star (in AU): 8-10
Radius: Millions of bodies ranging in size to over 450km. These bodies are very dispersed, meaning hitting one is very unlikely without aiming.
Day Cycle: N/A
Year Cycle: Roughly 20 years
Moons: N/A
Atmosphere: N/A
Inhabitants: N/A
Useful Resources: Many of the asteroids are rich in silicon, carbon, sulphur, iron or other minerals.
Description: The asteroid belt represents a planet sized body crushed at the beginning of the solar system and dispersed in a wide orbit. The asteroids are quite dispersed but could be useful for mining.

Name: Valen VI
Distance from Star (in AU): 15
Radius: 75,000km
Day Cycle: 9 hours
Year Cycle: 25 years
Moons: 29 of which 3 are of note.
Valen VIb is covered in a crust of water ice over wide water seas. This water is an ideal item for extraction.
Valen VIj is an otherwise undistinguished rock about 250km wide. It is most notable for having an ancient spaceship in its orbit. This craft, thought to be an Old Republic bulk cruiser, is thought to have been abandoned by its crew and never recovered after an unexplained attack. The cargo and purpose of the ship are unknown but potentially valuable.
Valen VIq is a large moon covered in a thick atmosphere of nitrogen and hydrogen, and seas of methane and ammonia. The moon is considered a possible breeding ground for life. In practical terms, it also possesses useful gasses for processing.
Atmosphere: Type IV
Inhabitants: N/A
Useful Resources: Aside from the moons, Valen VI contains not insignificant amounts of Tibana gas in its atmosphere.
Description: Valen VI is a dangerous, potentially vital world beyond the asteroid belt. The planet, in addition to being the largest world in the system, contains the extremely valuable Tibana gas in its atmosphere. However, this comes at a price. Unlike Bespin, this world is wracked by constant, violent storms. The very short day is indicative of the turbulence of the planet. The planet also has a distinctive ring around it.

Name: Valen VII
Distance from Star (in AU): 27
Radius: 40,000km
Day Cycle: 96 hours
Year Cycle: 82 years
Moons: 23 of which 2 are of note.
Valen VIIe contains a rich deposit of cortosis, but unfortunately a large amount of Lethane gas as well which was highly explosive. An Imperial probe droid’s signal has been detected from the moon, dating from the time of Emperor Palpatine. It is uncertain why it is there.
Valen VIIk is a moon which has suffered a catastrophic impact some time in its past. The moon features one of the largest straight drops in the galaxy, with a sheer thirty kilometre drop from the top of one of these broken ridges. This exposed terrain offers good opportunity for mining.
Atmosphere: Type IV
Inhabitants: N/A
Useful Resources: Cortosis on one of the moons. The planet contains valuable gasses such as hydrogen and helium in its atmosphere. There is also some Tibana gas present, though not as much as Valen VI.
Description: The most remote of the planets in the solar system, Valen VII is a relatively benign planet. Despite its size, the planet is low density and can be easily penetrated by probes and larger mining craft. Of all the large planets in the system, this is the easiest to process.
Also being the outermost planet, it has important strategic significance.

At this time I would like to invite all fleeters who would like to participate to sign up here with your faction. Fleets and their composition will be determined once I know how many people are involved.

Be aware, once the check in for this closes you will not be able to take part unless you have registered yourself! This is to keep things fair and stop people magically appearing.

Naturally, to the victors go the spoils, and the winners of the space campaign (dependant on the magnitude) will have access to some nice little rewards and perks!

This battle will be fought by RPing and with only minimal rules.

So roll up, roll up! Put your name down for the fleet battle to end them all....
