  • Unit Size: Large.
  • Unit Availability: Uncommon.
  • Unit Experience: Trained.
  • Combat Function: The Varanin Legion are the infantry, and their default goal is to capture and control ground. The legion excels in open combat tactics and strategies, and are well adapted to planetary assaults, using squadrons of legionnaires working in tandem with mechanised infantry. Varanin Legion serves multiple purposes and prides itself on its ability to adapt. They work well in coalition with other forces and while flexible, they rely on support for certain tasks, such as air and space support.
Strengths:
  • Zealotry: Varanin Legion are deeply zealous in their belief in the Empire, and in their commander. This makes them extraordinarily obedient troops, and their spirits difficult to break.
  • Numbers: Varanin Legion can field a large number of troops and equipment, making it well suited for large scale operations, such as invasions and major skirmishes.
Weaknesses:
  • Non-Specialised: The bulk of the Varanin Legion is trained and equipped for general purpose, and lack specialisation. A squadron can be out-scouted, out-manoeuvred, even out-gunned by more specialised troops.
  • Boots on the Ground: As infantry, these troops are most useful planetside. In sky or in space, they rely on aid from a dedicated fleet and starfighter corps.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Named for the second ruler, Empress Aishin Varanin, of Darth Moridin's Sith Empire, Varanin Legion is known for its extraordinary zealotry and adaptability in the face of obstacles. The Varanin Legion was initially comprised as a numbered reserve force before it fell into the hands of the Princess of Dromund Kaas, Joycelyn Zambrano. As she rose through the ranks of the Imperial Legion, she turned the reserve force into an invasion force in the Sith Imperial campaigns and made them notorious enough to receive the honour of being named after a Dark Lord of the Sith.

During the Great Galactic War, The Varanin Legion had entered its base infancy: Joycelyn Zambrano took command of a platoon of new recruits and lead them through a series of gruelling battles. Joycelyn and her troops reached Silver Rest in the Sith Empire's attack on Silver Jedi held Kashyyyk. She also used their armoured division to unleash Sithspawn on Alderaan. Later, the same troops were among the ground forces in the invasion of Gree. Between each battle the division expanded to incorporate more of their support. Many died and were replaced through Imperial Youth programmes.

The Great Galactic War was a time of growth, but only in its' wake did the legion truly blossom.

As Joycelyn Zambrano became a Colonel in the Imperial Legion, the Varanin Legion was coming into their own. On Csilla, in the war against the In tandem with a horde of graug and a vanguard of sithspawn, the budding legion were designated to seize and hold land won by their bestial brethren. They were not the tip of the spear, but the ardent shield that followed, secured, and kept their enemies from advancing.

Following the resounding victory on Csilla, Joycelyn Zambrano was elevated in status. Her band were re-organised and re-trained to a new model of Imperial battle formations, adapted to the Princess of Dromund Kaas' own leadership style. Elements of the legion were present on Rhen Var, where they were soundly beaten, their spirits inflamed. But they were truly tested on Concord Dawn against the Mandalorians, set to capturing Arma-Tech city and putting the natives to the proverbial sword. It was not the resounding success they had awaited, but a tempering experience.

Yet, in recognition of her effort, the Colonel was awarded the position of Lieutenant General, and the legion was given a new name. To inspire them, they were named for one of the first Sith Emperors following the five-hundred-year darkness: Empress Moradin. May the Empress of old inspire the Empress of the future.

Currently, the Varanin Legion are split between the Legion headquarters of Ord Radama, their commander's crown world of Dromund Kaas, and wherever their Lt. General may be.
