Exar Kun was a Dark Lord of the Sith who flourished thousands of years before Darth Sidious and his Sith apprentice Darth Maul. According to the Qel-Droma Epics, Kun was a former Jedi who turned to the dark side of the Force and became a Sith Lord, leading a Sith Empire with fellow fallen Jedi Ulic Qel-Droma around 4000 BBY. According to the legend, the double-bladed lightsaber design dated back to Exar Kun.During the Imperial Era, crime lord Dryden Vos owned a desk with an obsidian slab as its base, which he had plundered from a Sith temple. The stone was carved with the warding spells, as well as an inscription reading "Our temple honouring Sith Lord Exar Kun."

That Temple was on Yavin IV.

Yavin 4, also known as Yavin, was the jungle-covered fourth moon in orbit around the red gas giant Yavin Prime. Prior to the Galactic Civil War, Yavin was first a secret rendezvous point for members of the Axis and later home to the Massassi Group, one of many disparate rebel cells fighting against the Galactic Empire. Sometime before 2 BBY, the headquarters of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, was established on the moon, becoming fully equipped to wage war by 1 BBY. Following a major battle that took place around Yavin, the Alliance went on the run, and eventually relocated its headquarters to Hoth.
During the New Republic Era, Wetyin's Colony was the main settlement on the moon, and the Dameron family was settled there. Due to New Republic demilitarization, the Civilian Defense Force was founded to defend the moon. The Defense Force, along with the New Republic Security Bureau, was later involved in an altercation with the Spice Runners of Kijimi after they crash-landed on the moon and escaped.

What does any of this have to do with today?

Omega Squad was on the planet, Connel was there with them. They were here to help him reach the lake of Kun and Kun’s Temple. The Temple of Exar Kun had been sitting, or what’s left of it, for thousands of years, the thing is that Connel had found that there was a holocron that was in the Temple itself, in a repository of the fallen Jedi himself, this was one from when he was still a Jedi. This is something Connel wanted, he wanted it to see what would bring a Jedi to take the coward’s way out and let the Dark Side manipulate him.

This planet was ridiculous in how heavy you could feel the manipulation. No wonder it seemed so easy for one to fall, all of the little voices, all of the little calls. So ridiculous in his mind to think that someone would give in to this. He tuned them out easily. Connel had always prided himself on his mental discipline, but even he could feel the weight of the planet's dark influence, it was a testament to what he had learned as being a part of the team. It was as if the very air whispered temptations, urging weakness and despair. Yet, he remained steadfast, determined to uncover the secrets hidden within the temple's ruins.

Though they were fine, he asked that they remain outside in cover positions. That they keep any Massassi away from him. They would not engage unless any hostile acts were witnessed, this was a Connel mission from this point, not because he wanted to bail on them, but because that even they could be hit hard by what might go on inside.

Hunger is unfethered, Emptiness is truth

The lies and decept which had covered the ages of darkness with dogma, with rules, with creeds and ethos' of every kind were exactly the things which when deciphered could lead to greater understanding of the galaxy and the powers within it. To learn from the mistakes of the past was... a hard thing for many, be they jedi or sith, almost all who adhered to the stringent tennets of each where generally and by a large margin doomed to continue the mistakes made by their forebearers. Some...just a few who managed to pry themselves away from the path, those who could stand aside and observe, who could objectively monitor their own life and their own past and hold it against the innumeral paths which lied behind them and the infinite number of paths that lay before them, were the ones who could break free from the cage created by not just the living force, but the fools who either sought to serve it or to free themselves from it.

Yavin IV was... unique in a way, a strange and illustrous place visited, bombarded, razed and raised by many a legend. Yet, even if it had been ravaged, rebuilt and grounded to dust once again, it's lush leafy forests witheld still more secrets, still more answers...while providing mainly more questions.

Darkness was which did its part upon the planet, a pull to those seeking knowledge, seeking secrets, no matter their intentions, they would all be swayed. Even the Lord of Hunger, whose desire to evolve, to grow beyond the limitations of the very force itself, could not resist the call for knowledge, the desire to great within him to waylay the idea of uncovering a new secret, a new solution, a new riddle, a new answer.

Close to the entrance of Exar Kun's ravaged temple ruins, a fog of black miasma would start to converge and electrify itself, until a vortex the size of a man appeared, through which a monstrous, armored being appeared. Emanating an unnatural cold, a feeling of utter despair and emptiness, creatures would freeze in their tracks, turn tail and run, their instinct telling them this being was not of this world, nor was it of any natural kind. Their instincts saved them from the will of nature, the will of the galaxy, the will of the strongest...

"Either you reveal yourselves or you stay put," Like a hollow breeze within an empty graveyard, the voice resonating from beyond the armored man's mask lingered in the air, directed straight towards the presences outside of the temple. "just as long as you don't bother me... I in turn will not bother you beyond this point..."​

[On it… Ariel… you hear that? Something big and no doubt mean is headed your way.]

[Acknowledged. I’ll call if I need.]

Connel was already inside, traversing the corridors. Exar Kun’s history was an important one into the history of the Force, no matter who you were or how you looked at it. Connel knew that understanding Exar Kun’s legacy was crucial for anyone studying the Force, regardless of their allegiance. The shadowy corridors seemed to echo with the weight of history, reminding him of the power and darkness that once permeated this place.

He heard the voice, speaking through the waves of the Force, and frankly was anything but changed by it. Connel felt the presence of something ancient and powerful, a lingering echo of Exar Kun's dark influence. The voice seemed to resonate through the very walls, carrying a warning or perhaps a challenge. He steeled himself, knowing the path ahead would test his understanding of the Force and his resolve. If this was just a “Vanguard: of the tomb, or someone else entirely did not matter. He was here for one thing, and if he was still here, it would not be for much longer.

If that voice was waiting for a response, they would be waiting for awhile.

The Hunger Cometh

With no answer coming his way, a deep and unsettling chuckled escaped the monstrous man's throat, moving forwards The Lord of Hunger decided to ignore the small fry who were either too well trained to actually give away their actual locations or too cowardly to respond. It didn't matter either way, their decision was the right one, if they had revealed themselves, the jungle would have a new layer of mulch to feast upon.

As he passed the threshold of the ruins, for a moment, the abomination within the force stopped in his tracks, whispers of the distant past, echoes of an unborn future, whatever had brough so many to fall into madness within the vicinity of this place, it all made sense to the Lord of Hunger. However, his was a will beyond the influence of such primitive sorceries, such underdeveloped runes and magicks. Exar Kun was considered close to being a living god, yet this...these paltry parlor tricks just showed how little the successors knew, how little those who worshipped the old sith lord, truly understood.

yet as his own aura of unease, his own nature of malice and twisted depravity, of complete desinterest and emptiness, of endless hunger revealed itself, runes shattered and pitiful magicks fizzled out. What he sought for would not find itself protected by such parlor tricks, only the true power, the true legacy of Exar Kun would truly pose a worthwhile challenge to this monster.

Still, as he stood still, his breathing calmed down, as his senses expanded. it was through the very force itself that he sought to get a grasp on the layout of these forsaken ruins, figuring out where the highest concentration within the force would be would eventually lead him to what he desired after all...that or at the very least a good meal...

"Pathetic... if this is what goes for maddening darkness, these natives are worthless," The Lord of Hunger remarked, muttering to himself, his vibrant crimson and golden eyes scanning the massive hall, scouring the shattered and broken pillars sustaining but half the roof of what was left, the runes and ancient words, half eroded into nothingness. yet he could sense it...more precisely, he could taste the presence in the air. Someone who was strong in the force had been here only moments earlier... "Hmm, a muddled scent...do I detect doubt and distrust? Interesting... a vintage, a...master Jedi...heh"

No doubt, if his intuition was correct, this jedi must've felt him long before he had entered, not wearing his dolos amulet did prevent him from truly being sneaky amongst those who were attuned properly to the force, especially when one's own presence was as uniquely unidentifiable and twisted as the Lord of Hunger's had been. "A jedi in a Sith's tomb...the only reason I can fathom one would be here...is knowledge...a course and goal I can understand and support."​

He could hear the voice throughout the entire entrails of this place. The cobwebs, the vermin, the insects, none of them and their sounds were able to drown this bitter individual out. Whoever this was that was approaching, they were powerful there was no doubt or question about that, but there was one thing that he was not capable of.

Figuring out Connel.

That was not a negative on whoever this was, but his mindset working with Omega Squad, his training in the Force, and his natural “trust only those worthy of it” outlook. He was trained to assess situations with a critical eye, to never fully trust anyone until they had proven themselves. This individual, no matter their power, would have to earn his trust through actions, not just words or reputation.

Which was why his aura, the measure of his connection to the Force was always either masked, or outright cloaked. He would remain cautious, observing their every move, their every intention, until he could be certain of their true character. For in his world, trust was not given lightly—it was earned through time, actions, and unwavering loyalty.

It was working when the individual observed him, whether it was honest to his skills, predatory in a baiting compliment, or simply inexperienced called him “Master Jedi”. Clearly this individual was of the Dark Side, but was he a Sith?

It did not matter.

No doubt, the individual was here for something of the former Jedi, the former Dark Lord… that did not matter either. What mattered was figuring him out before Connel found himself in trouble. Right now, he had the “home field” in the manner that this being was trying to triangulate his location. He could also control the situation in that he could manipulate the environment to his advantage. By carefully analyzing the individual's movements and intentions, Connel aimed to stay one step ahead, ensuring that he could neutralize any potential threat before it materialized. For in his world, survival depended on vigilance and control.

When the individual… we’ll just call him “Lord” for lack of adjectives offering his “support”, Connel could have gone a few different ways. He could have gone into a diatribe about how Kun was once a Jedi. He could have went to stop the Lord’s advance, but that would stop his progress. He could also ignore the sentient, but what would that do?

Cool.

Yeah, that’s it.

Sure, he couldn't with full certainly know whether or not there was a jedi, let alone a master within the confines of the tomb, but all logic would point that way. After all, despite its roots in darkness, the place in which the tomb had been build, had been long under the stewardship of various jedi-aligned factions and governments. There was always the idea that it was the perfect place for young jedis to conquer their fears, the illusion of control and all the other things the Jedi were so adamant in calling "paths to the dark side."

Still, while perhaps not even sure about the addition of 'master', it was hard to cloak one's own power from the Lord of Hunger, as forcing one's presence in the force was only one of various senses employed by this abomination, still there was no certainty, but more of a feeling, an idea that by now, many had long forgotten the history of the galaxy, especially what had come before the first true fall of the jedi. Only those who had access to knowledge, who had gained knowledge beyond the scope of most mortals would eventually find their way to Yavin IV's isolated tomb, and as logic dictated, the only ones with the knowledge to understand this place, where the ones with the power to seize or maintain the wealth of knowledge necessary to do so.

In any possible case though, the presence was shady, unclear and blurry, meaning that whomever it was, had enough expertise to shield themselves from the monstrous Lord's senses, yet in having this capacity, they also managed to draw his attention. Not out of hunger, nor out of rage, but sheer curiosity. If anything, the Lord of Hunger was devious and conniving, but also highly curious and always on the hunt for knowledge. He hated the jedi and the sith, not the individuals themselves, but the beliefs they held; the tennets which rather than guide them, constricted them and refrained them from truly growing physically and mentally.

"Hmmm," The armored man, slowly started to lean forward, his gaze; crimson and gold, peering upon an inscribed tablet, broken and shattered, with various pieces missing, but with a bit of simple sith sorcery, the runes in ancient tongue upon the broken tablet began to lighten up with a sickly green color, revealing what partial pieces of knowledge the text upon the tablet witheld for the illiterate graverobbers and opportunists who'd usually find themselves trapped in places like this. "Edoui kuris iezkon azinimas, avansas tik su midwan"

Those who seek knowledge, advance only with power

It was a rather apt phrase in the lord of Hunger's opinion, as knowledge in the end, was indeed power, but power wielded by those without knowledge was nothing but a dangerous tool in the hands of the incompetent. It was this latter idea which made him distrust any order of force sensitives who bound themselves in rules and neglected the common sense which came with any source or use of power. "Now now... let's see what this dusty old legend has left in his wake... it is always useful to know the ways of the sith in this kind of situation..."

There was something to this last bit of conversation this individual was trying to bait him into giving up his position with. There was a room, filled with what looked like a trophy room. Collections of old armor, trinkets, and lightsabers, all falling to the weight of time. The room was dimly lit, with the faint glow of the lightsabers casting eerie shadows on the walls. Each piece seemed to hold a story, a testament to battles fought and victories won. The air was thick with the scent of aged metal and dust, hinting at the passage of time.

Connel just exhaled.

This was not at all what Connel was looking for so he moved on.

It was weird, but felt like the further he ventured inward, the more… “kept” this place looked. Almost like someone was living here. Someone was keeping this tomb as a living memorial, not just a visceral one.

Not interested in the ways of an ideology bent on suppressing others in the name of “freedom”. It was a cowardly ideology to him, but that was a conversation for another day. Right now he needed to find what he was looking for and get out before this… whatever it was… found him.

Let others wander and wade through the darkness, for only those who "knew" could truly unravel the mysteries of places such as this. Exar Kun was crafty, dominating and intelligent, that much could be gained from whatever snippets had managed to survive the many iterations of the Sith Empires and their consequent collapses, perhaps even less could be gained from the man's status prior to his supposed fall or rise depending on which depiction one took as starting point. Yet there was little question about the strangeness, the intricacy his tomb held even when dilapidated and eroded by both time and foolish interlopers.

Still, drawn by the idea that knowledge and thus also power could be gained, the Lord of Hunger moved on, in his wake, the darkness which seemed to permeate this place only became more evocative, more present. Yet unlike in his days when he had claimed openly and proudly to be a Sith Lord, the once proud and arrogant noble had been replaced by a more devious and far more dangerous entity whose desires had shifted from purely gaining power to gaining a greater understanding, with some claiming the latter might be the true way to power.

Sparks of electricity zapped from his terrible-looking gauntlet towards the walls, running and zipping through the carvings, leaving behind a sickly green afterglow. With every step, the tomb slowly began to light up, texts in various languages, from old common to ancient sith tongue had been carved in the walls, depicting the life of the man whose final resting place was right there within that tomb. Still, it was rather annoying to have to read every sentence and every phrase independently while the stale air permeated the monstrous man's mask with a thick, moldy smell.

"The thought of not being alone, to be able to sense these interlopers, their presence, but at the same time being unable to truly find them...is quite frustrating," The Gauntlet's sharp fingertips tapped on the wall where the Lord of Hunger was trying to read another sentence, his vibrant golden and crimson eyes lighting up in the darkness with a hint of green coming from the afterglow on the wall. "Perhaps I should not be this...reluctant myself."

If those who he sensed were hiding, cloaking themselves, he'd do the opposite. If they thought they could hide and avoid him by all means, he just had to force everyone to stop their cloaking and focus on defense. And right here, in a tomb permeating with darkness, touched by the force in many ways, the Lord of Hunger's own expertises could truly come to light in the most terrifying manner.

The gems in his gauntlet, permeated with the force drawn from not only this tomb, but the lifeforce of others, the pain and suffering of those who had the misfortune to end up as His meals, His sustenance to stave off his rapidly aging body's frailty. from those gems, the electricity sparked once more, yet on a much larger and grander scale, for as the monstrous man slammed his open palm against the wall, streaks of lightning traversed through the walls, lighting up all the text, jumping from the walls towards nearby metallic objects, sparks with high intensity filling the air as the lightning traversed throughout the tomb's insides. "Whatever you seek, whatever you desire... to obtain it, you can't avoid a confrontation with those who may very well be looking for the same thing."

The diatribe this “Lord” was on about was tiresome. So, Connel was going to keep up the game of Nexu and womprat. Taking the communicator off of his gauntlet in an alcove and leaving it activated. He had a comm-link in his mask, but wanted the individual, if he was gullible enough to follow the sound in the direction of the comm-link and not him. Connel walked away and further into the tomb. He was looking for a vault containing a holocron of the long fallen Fallen Jedi turned Sith Lord Exar Kun, not for power, he didn’t care about that, not for knowledge, he had enough of that. He wanted the holocron for understanding of the mindset one has when they take the cowardly way out. That was it.

This sentient following him just wanted a confrontation, whatever.

”Plan your dive. Dive your plan.” “The only easy day, was yesterday.” “Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.” “Everyone has a plan until they get hit in the face. Pick any one you want. I have more. Speaking in a hope that would draw “The Lord”’s attention in another direction, Connel found the vault he was looking for. This holocron, by any other description, was a trick. If it was not, it would have been looted long ago, but it was designed to look like something else. Something that could hide in plain sight and soon, he found what he thought it was. No time to test whether this was the genuine article or not. He saw the lightning up and against the walls, it was all branching from somewhere. The individual was close, but clearly not entirely aware.

Connel did not try to alter the environment, or do anything else that would more easily give his position away. The Shadow just kept his aura (most of it) cloaked in the guise his connection would be smaller than what it was. Right now, he would (hopefully) appear to be little more than a Special Forces Operator with Force Awareness.

The voice echoed through the empty corridors of the tomb, perhaps a way to draw Credius' attention, a way to communicate with him without having to come face to face. Whatever the intention, it did intrigue the Lord of Hunger, who as soon as he could hear the voice, stopped in his tracks. he mulled it over, whether or not it could be a trap, a diversion, whether or not those who had managed to enter this tomb before him on this fateful day were attempting to draw away his attention from something he was missing. the more he thought about the possibility, the more it became a likely scenario. He didn't sense any presence from the direction of the voice...however, he had hardly sensed any presence before either, even though it was a gutfeeling, his augmented sensory capacities telling him he was far from alone on the location.

Still, the audacity, the disdain dripping from the echoed voice made him chuckle. How long had it been he had someone act so...indifferent to who and what he was? How long had it been since he had last heard a voice without a shred of fear, without a single hint of doubt and despair? Perhaps the last time had been... when facing Gerwald Lechner, the dread wolf... not the King of Korriban, not his student, not even the empress herself had managed to forego the idea of fear, but now...once again, someone was clearly showing this bravery...or maybe stupidity to disregard His presence as naught but a minor inconvenience.

Honestly, he wasn't really in the mood for a confrontation either, not if there was no need for it. If their desires did not contradict one another, if their search did not coincidentally aim for the same goal, there was no need for hostility, not from his side at least. Hostility after all was just the tool for the jedi and the sith to divy up the galaxy in "them or us", both of them were cowards, fools who simply couldn't realize that they were all but opposite sides of the same coin, hypocrites draped in different clothes, but following the same disjointed logic.

Exar Kun had been both, drowned in both their ideologies and baptised by and through both dogmas, they could shed light on the theory the Lord of Hunger held, the theory that following a rigid, unchanging structure as the jedi only led to stagnation, while the unchecked, unbridled illussion of liberation the Sith followed could only lead to implosion. Whether the decay was rapid or stretched over thousands of years, both orders, both dogmas were obsolete when it came to the force. To have one's path dictated by rules was foolish, to avoid the spread of knowledge was adverse to progress, it was never about the individual and it was never about the collective. these things were never necessarily opposites, for one could be part of a group and still perfectly follow one's own way, still retain individuality.

"The Holocron of Exar Kun," The Lord of Hunger's voice was louder, amplified by his vocoder, allowing the raspy, hollow voice to emanate through the ruins with strange clarity. His tone was neutral, almost cold. "Though I can only guess which direction you took by the fact you are most likely trying to avoid being detected or confronted by me. I can imagine that someone going through such lengths to remain hidden, is most likely someone who is looking for something they aren't normally allowed or expected to look for. This individual was strong, either that or a good guess. It was not a surface thought that Connel had about the holocron that he was looking for. So this sentient may not know the specifics, but he really does not need to. He was apparently, in a manner of speaking, taking the bait in the comm-link. If he was talking, he was looking.

It was pointless to dwell on or even really be concerned about it though as Connel was close to the vault that he was looking for. However, now it was a matter of getting into it. There was no physical way of opening the vault though, not without using the Force. The thing is, if he did, he risked giving away his position. He could attempt to use the Force subtly, masking his actions to avoid detection, but that would require immense focus and precision. Alternatively, he could rely on his technical skills to bypass the security measures, though this approach might take more time and effort than he could afford.

Connel knew what he was looking for, could he risk it. Good guess, and I may have taken your advice if was not this far in. Might as well check for myself.
