Obredaan is a terrestrial-class planet found on the Mid Rim, in the Irishi sector, as part of a standard system colloquially named after it. It is the largest producer of the rare mineral known as Cortosis: a highly sought after rare ore that has unusually high energy absorption attributes that gives it the side-effect of being able to short-circuit the legendary Lightsaber weapons of the Jedi and Sith. Sometime ago- decades, in fact- (back when Emeritus Industries had the "Ri'ess" in it's name) this old, (and now defunct organisation) had in it's possession several Cortosis mines open on the planet that were in operation until the disappearance of both of it's owners by the late 800s.

When the founder of Emeritus was murdered during a coup de'tat on Coruscant their apprentice left the organisation and took with her the rights to one of the companies best shafts for her own. Known as Drey's Mine to the local Jin'ha work had continued and profit streamed into the accounts of it's then new owner until it ceased somewhere back in the 850s due to the unexpected death of Alicia Drey Alicia Drey . After a funeral service was held on the planet Chandrila (Drey's homeworld) word came to the barracks that Drey was deceased, and so the colony had waited for new work to come. After all, with Cortosis being such a well sought after mineral, and with it being so rare, with this particular shaft containing such rich veins of ore to be mined, the Jin'ha and others who lived there were sure someone would come to claim the mine, set up new arrangements and contracts so that the work could continue.

But nobody had come to claim the mine, and in the weeks after Drey's death, the colony moved on as work became available elsewhere. In the decades that passed the only time the Cortosis here had been touched were by thieves, or where others had come to excavate the mine for assessment and their own bid to take it over. But, rather mysteriously, when others had come to present an offer to buy the mine their bids had been declined. Perplexed the Jin'ha found new generations come into being, and so the mystery surrounding Drey's Mine were forgotten to time by the natives who live there.

Until now.

On board the Meniium- a Trade Federation Space Station above Garqi- the Senator of Obulette, and owner of Mecetti Nationalized Industries Casteban Mecetti Casteban Mecetti came into contact with the mysterious return of Alicia Drey as the two connected regarding an arrangement Mecetti Industries had with the Empire of the Lost. As part of the negotiation between the Mecetti and the Empire Alicia had brought the Cortosis mine, found on Obredaan, into the deal that would see Mecetti Industries fund the re-opening of the mine with a new colony, and the assorted necessities to begin the work there, such as the supply of foodstuffs, and other essentials to make it all work. During the same economic conference Alicia had approached Judah Dashiell Judah Dashiell to bring Salacia Consolidated into the deal due to their expertise in the mining industry.

It was on Carlac, during the gathering of armies, armadas- nay- the newly rising Dark Empire that the same woman had made invitations to the former Chancellor of the Galactic Alliance Aerarii Tithe Aerarii Tithe and Meii-Nu Suu Meii-Nu Suu (who is a key member of the newly formed Imperial Economic Council) before Ignacious Korvan Ignacious Korvan and Darth Solipsis Darth Solipsis had made their speeches. This was done by design as Alicia sought to establish her own connections to both of them- not only because of their affiliations to the Sith'ari and his Empire- but also due to their positions in the Trade Federation: a conglomerate that holds great economic and political influence within the Galactic Alliance.

In the form of Vyllia Santhe Vyllia Santhe Alicia had invited the head of Santhe-Sienar of Lianna to the meeting after the two had met to discuss the arrangement made between the Mecetti and the Empire on the Meniium as well as a personal request for the assistance in recovering lost assets that had belonged to Alicia Drey in the 840s. Vyllia's attendance of the meeting was also done by design because Alicia wanted her to finalize the contract that she had negotiated with Casteban, and to meet with the Trade Federation delegates. Her involvement in the meeting, was in fact, also an important ploy by Alicia so as to bring the head of Santhe-Sienar into her world.

To prepare her guests for the meeting aboard the Ayrix Alicia had left them with the items and agenda that were set to be discussed by all of them once they were set to meet. For Casteban Mecetti Alicia had sent word via the same burst communication system he had been using with his son Maldor Mecetti Maldor Mecetti ; for Vyllia a Lenoi II had been left after their meeting, which contained Alicia's proposal for the Mecetti Industries-Santhe-Sienar connection; and for the Trade Federation delegates two protocol droids had been given as gifts, and they contained the details of the meeting alongside the star date, location and time for Aerarii and Meii-Nu to attend. Finally, Makai Dashiell Makai Dashiell received their own instructions, alongside the items and agenda of the meeting, after his father was made unavailable for the meeting.

Key items and agenda of the Obredaan Peel- hosted by the esteemed Senator of Obulette, Casteban Mecetti- aboard the Ayrix:
  • The reopening of Drey's Mine: a long abandoned Cortosis mine found deep within the swamplands of Obredaan.
  • Proposal for Mecetti Nationalized Industries, Santhe-Sienar, Salacia Consolidated and the Trade Federation to enter business with one another.
  • Finalized agreement between Mecetti Nationalized Industries and Santhe-Sienar for the manufacture and distribution of new ships for the Empire of the Lost.
  • Investment into a new agricultural company recently founded on Lianna for the manufacture and distribution of foodstuffs in territories belonging to the Empire of the Lost.
  • Discussion of politics within the Galactic Alliance that would see investment, backing and creation of a new party in the Galactic Senate that would see several star systems and their representatives politically and ideologically align with each other to form a 'block' which serves the interests of all parties involved.
Situated in high orbit of Obredaan the Ayrix waited for the attendees to arrive so that commerce, trade and business could begin in earnest with an assortment of individuals, and organisations linked to the three great powers of the Galaxy.

The sleek Santhe Challenger cut through the black of space, piloted by protocol droid Thirty-Seven. While he had been suggested for the job by his father, the original plan was to have the man continue negotiations while Makai merely provided muscle and knowledge of cortosis mining. Cortosis mining was hard, dangerous work. Special suits had to be worn and the only tried and true way to remove it was drilling by hand with a jackhammer along the vein. It was brittle and delicate and an enigma to work with. Add in lethane gas deposits and it was just a recipe for an insurance nightmare.

Juggling his project in the scar world Centrality Region, it had given him enough time to go through the bullet points that would be discussed in their meeting today, as well as secure the information needed to make a presentation if called upon regarding the cortosis mining. While his father was more well known in the galaxy at large, Makai was stepping in due to the elder Dashiell being on a medical sabbatical until early summer. Growing up in the company and with Danger Arceneau Danger Arceneau as a mentor and future mother-in-law, Makai was confident he was going to handle this much larger foray into business just fine.

Igneous is Bliss was granted docking rights after confirming his codes and identity, the luxury vessel carefully navigated by the protocol droid and docking successfully. Makai helped his droid go through any shut down and stand-by procedures, although he didn't expect to leave in a hurry. There was typically not a reason to in business negotiations ; even if backstabbing was to occur. Most beings were wise to understand at the end of the day, it was just business.

Datapad in hand, he and Thirty-Seven left the Igneous.

[ Have you memorized most of the talking points Sir? ]

"Yes, Thirty-Seven. Don't worry, I won't embarrass you."

House Mecetti Security Flotilla
at Obredaan

An hour prior, six ships from the Mecetti House Guard Navy arrived at Obredaan. In this time of galactic upheaval, it was a sacrifice for Casteban to carve off a piece of his fleet, but he refused to trust the security of such an important site to others. The presence of House Mecetti here would not be nominal. There was a treasure here worth more than his whole fleet, if it was managed correctly. That would make the world a tempting target for pirates, raiders, and even foreign nations.

Well, if they wanted to take Obredaan, they'd be forced to pay a price for it.

Victory Star Destroyers Magnificent and Awesome were here, along with their screening corvettes Guardian, Indefatigable, Warhound, and Storm.

Casteban boarded his executive shuttle, which had been berthed on the Magnificent, and used it to ferry him across to the Ayrix, which was on lease to House Mecetti. He brought with him a protocol droid he'd ordered from Tampson Consolidated. It was a special model intended to be programmed as an Administrative Assistant. He didn't really like its silver shell. Too often, he caught his own reflection on its polished surface. The unit lacked any color or sense of life.

A grim reminder of his own situation.

Still, Casteban was not sentimental or emotional. He expected things to do the job they'd been given to do. In the end, that's all he cared about.

The Ayrix, in orbit of Obredaan

As the shuttle approached the newly leased vessel, Casteban took a moment to appreciate its elegant design. The grayish-silver hull had the trademark color of Nubian aesthetic design. But interestingly, it also held design nods to ancient Sith vessels. Casteban wondered if that was a coincidence, or whether the people of Naboo had some ancient Sith cultural influences. If he'd had more leisure time, he might have looked into it to satisfy his curiosity.

After he boarded the Ayrix, he waved off the ship's Captain and the honor guard which had been sent. They, too, had been leased to him. Casteban was well aware that whatever he did here, the Empire's NISB would be duly informed. He hoped that his wife's ongoing plan to recruit an officer in the NISB as a double agent would bear fruit. He did not like having other people's fingers in his pudding.

Gradually, he made his way to the ship's luxurious conference room, and his droid began to set up the space, laying out food and drink, then datapads that were linked to his own. This way, he'd be able to direct any information he wanted to the attendees. These would supplement Alicia's own data sheets and reports.

This accomplished, he left word with the ship's Captain: Escort the arrivals directly to the conference room. Do not search them for weapons. The danger of striking the wrong tone was worse than the danger of assassination.

Besides, he wasn't long for this universe, no matter what precautions he might take...

At the far reaches of the Obredaan System, sensors and visual systems detected the emergence of four Tambor Pattern Lucrehulk Class Battleship's from hyperspace - announcing the Trade Federation's Delegation's arrival at the gathering aboard the Ayrix.

While such aggressive demonstrations of strength were not typical for the conglomerate, it was a clear message that if the meeting went awry, a simple order to the Tactical Droids could swiftly put an end to the facade using force of arms.

Such a scenario was unlikely but meeting your potential business partners without assurances was a fool's error, at least to the pragmatic mind of the Gossam Industrial Magnate.

A single luxury Sheathipede-class Type B shuttle maneuvered from the ring-shaped hangers towards the vessel in question, followed behind by a squadron of modernized droid tri-fighters, only departing when the shuttle was safely docked inside.

Meii-Nu had accomplished much during her little time with the Dark Empire, having gained a seat on their Imperial Economic Council but it would never be enough to satisfy her quest for never-ending wealth and influence. She spotted the outspoken Senator Mecetii, whose fire branding and blunt nature in the senate chamber was getting around to more prominent circles.

It hadn’t taken long for Vyllia to decide to accept the invitation delivered to her via datapad. How she would handle the meeting was another matter however. She certainly had business acumen and the final decision involving Santhe-Sienar was hers. But most of her “work” was in socializing, making friends, and just being the face of the company with a long legacy in the manufacturing field.

In the end Vyllia decided that she did not want the Imperial military machine to know details of the meeting and she didn’t wish to exert the effort or credits to secure a large private security presence. She decided to travel light. Herself, her pilot and her closest, most trusted bodyguards boarded her shuttle on Lianna and made for Obredaan. Vyllia hoped that she wasn’t being too trusting.

That feeling was elevated when her shuttle exited hyperspace not only to Drey’s large flagship the Ayrix, but also a small flotilla of House Mecetti and a Trade Federation battlecruiser. If this turned into a fight Vyllia would need to hope that Maldor had properly spoken to his father about her and that the on-call security team on the other end of her panic button wasn’t busy when needed.

A smirk formed on Vyllia’s lips as she noticed another attendee who didn’t come with a contingent ready for war. The smirk was not because she had company in her course of action, but rather the model of the yacht that appeared. It was a design of her family’s cousin corporation. A design that she was rather fond of. She wondered if the owner would let her look around for a sense of family nostalgia.

Docking instructions were received from the Ayrix and Vyllia gave a nod from beside the pilot to follow them to the tee. The bodyguards, a set of female twins from Jaminere, started the chore of hiding their weapons. Not that they intended to actually fool anyone at the meeting that they were armed, it was just a habit of theirs. ”You gals ready?” Vyllia asked, which received two synchronized nods.

Before she knew it the Lap of Lianna settled down within the hangar of the Ayrix, Vyllia took in a deep breath and stood from her chair. She led the way out of the shuttle, bodyguards close behind. Whatever escort was afforded to her from within the Ayrix was met by three smiles and from there is was straight to the conference room set aside. Business was set to pick up. Vyllia hoped in the civil manner that she had expected.

Meii-Nu gracefully settled into an unoccupied chair around the conference table, her eyes darting across the room as she mentally assessed each individual's potential as a valuable ally in the ever-evolving galactic landscape, despite the initial evaluation portraying the potential business partners as lacking ambition and prioritizing personal standards over wealth accumulation, there was one exception.

Former Chancellor Tithe, who was fashionably late as usual to these conferences, possessed extensive political knowledge from his time within the Sith Empire and had proven to be a valuable asset to the Trade Federation of Planets both under the leadership of Gat Tambor and Rulonom Laborr.

She had the opportunity to glance at the agenda, first and foremost was the reopening of a Cortosis Mine on Obredaan, next was the ambition plan to align Mecetti Nationalized Industries, Santhe-Sienar, Salacia Consolidated and the Trade Federation to enter a partnership. The last item on the agenda was the only one to really peak the Gossam's interest about the formation of a political block within the Federal Assembly.

"Might I recommend that we get started on the first agenda item. Time equals money in the business world and so far all I see is potential credits being wasted." The Gossam said in her usual bluntness.

The conference room on the newly refitted Ayrix had assigned seats designated for each guest. In the centre had been the seat assigned for Casteban Mecetti Casteban Mecetti . As the esteemed host of the venue and head of the Mecetti Nationalized Industries Alicia had- by design- wanted the delegates from the Trade Federation, Salacia Consolidated and Santhe-Sienar to appear as if this was Mecetti's business. He would take all the plaudits of the trade agreements that were set to be signed today, and if Alicia suspected as such the elder gentleman would recognise this as an opportunity for other arrangements that would benefit himself and his exiled son.

Of course, Alicia knew that the man was gravely ill. She had in her possession a recording of a meeting that Casteban had recently in the Ayumi Tower. There wasn't much time left to orchestrate her machinations on Obulette to benefit herself before the man was too ill to continue his work. Whence the last item on the agenda. If it could be created a political black on the Alliance Federal Assembly would fast track the end of Maldor Mecetti Maldor Mecetti 's exile in the Empire of the Lost. She suspected that this was what Casteban truly wanted, and not the fake imitation that he had ordered when he met with Ayumi Pallopides Ayumi Pallopides .

Alicia had arranged for Vyllia Santhe Vyllia Santhe to sit with her at the end of the table, with Makai Dashiell Makai Dashiell nestled to Vyllia's right. On the other side sat Aerarii Tithe Aerarii Tithe and Meii-Nu Suu Meii-Nu Suu : the board members of the great and powerful Trade Federation. Through her machinations in the dark side Alicia had brought these powerful groups together to begin commerce and trade of Cortosis. Their affiliations to three of the major factions in the Galaxy were numerous, and so too were the opportunities available to be exploited.

When all the delegates had taken their respective seats Alicia lifted her gaze up to the ceiling and voice activated the Cone of Silence. "Silence!"

The room, which had previously been illuminated by artificial light, dimmed to near darkness only for an eerie, white light to bask all seven people in complete, sheer silence to the outside world. Now that the meeting was shrouded in complete secrecy, Alicia leaned forward to speak:

"Our new associate from the Trade Federation is correct. Let us proceed with the first item: the reopening of my mine on Obredaan. Our first agenda is to stipulate the new ownership. As the current sole owner of Drey's Mine I am willing to part with over sixty percent in shares of my mine in exchange for ten million dataries and to be paid by the new owners that are coming in to reopen the mine. I pass the floor to our host so that we can learn of the new proposed ownership and the percentages allocated to our new investors."

It was a bold move. Alicia had brought together the representatives of Mecetti Nationalized Industries, Salacia Consolidated and the Trade Federation on the idea that everyone of them would be cut a slice of the cake. She had been true to her word, but only to a certain extent. By offering up more than sixty percent of the rights to Drey's Mine Alicia would be stepping away as full owner, but would maintain a substantial cut of the profits that the mine would produce, and depending on how these negotiations went, she would retain a powerful voice in the future business between all shareholders.

Stipulating an asking price of a mere ten million dataries seemed extremely cheap for such an operation. Within the first quarter a new potential owner could recoup that investment very easily. Cortosis was such a rare but desirable commodity that people out there would part ways with it for absurd sums of credits. But the price was admissible. It was clear that Alicia did not have the ability to reopen the mine without their investment and she had made promises to Mecetti Nationalized Industries that they would get theirs in blood. After all, the agreement made during the Second Economic Conference had been made and would see House Mecetti cover the manpower, and cost of the reopening. This implied that they would become the new owners, but as Alicia had just revealed implications and assumptions in the cutthroat world of business was tantamount too suicide.

It was up to these men now. They were set to host a negotiation now that would see the sixty percent put up for sale split between all three of them, or perhaps, only two or one. Was the willy elder in Casteban Mecetti cunning enough to compete with the Trade Federation? Was Makai Dashiell able to navigate this tense negotiation? Was the reputation of the Trade Federation well earned?

Alicia winked at Vyllia as she stood up from her chair. On Lianna Alicia had offered the head of Santhe-Sienar a chance to bring her into the company. In many ways the Obredaan Peel was an audition to Vyllia Santhe to bring Alicia and her expertise in. But would Vyllia be willing to give Alicia the job?

Rising up from her seat Alicia drew a pack of cigarettes and slipped one in between her teeth. As the eerie white light of the Cone continued to shroud the meeting Alicia disappeared into the strands of light or darkness as she lit up the cigarette to smoke. As she paced the outskirts of the meeting- at the fine line of the static barrier which now surrounded them- Alicia listened to the negotiation as it begun in earnest.

4AoErwz.png

Casteban Mecetti glared at Alicia briefly before realizing that her command of 'Silence' was merely the activation word for an aural security device. He re-composed himself, and nodded his head.

"The goal of the Mecetti Nationalized Industries is to establish an arrangement beneficial to all parties, and for the efforts of all parties to conclude in rewards commensurate with those efforts.

Here is what I propose..."

He coughed once, then consulted his datapad.

"As shareholders of more than sixty percent, the Mecetti Nationalized Industries become the majority stakeholders and de-facto owners of the mine in question. However, owning a mine is nothing more than owning a hole in the ground.

We require the expertise of mining industrials like Salacia, who can best extract the Cortosis from the mine, along with secondary products which I see include..."
he paused, then, "Duranium and Titanium ore is present in concentrations of 10 kilograms per metric ton of material processed, as of the last productivity survey on veins One, Three, and Five.

Last recorded production at the mine was a processing of 390,000 metric tonnes of material per day, leaving a primary production of just 3.9 Tonnes of the Cortosis ore for all of that processed sand and rock. Obviously, the fact that Cortosis ore is so valuable makes this immense effort still worthwhile for just the Cortosis.

However, Salacia is renowned for their ability to extract and smelt secondary products efficiently without impacting primary production targets. Thus, I expect they will be able to extract, smelt, and purify an additional secondary production of 3,900 metric tonnes of Duranium and Titanium per day.

As the secondary production is a byproduct of the primary effort, it is a bonus initiative."

He looked to Makai Dashiell Makai Dashiell , "I propose your company extract for the mine, retaining a sevent-percent share of all materials extracted as your fee for doing so. This will promote productivity, as the more you extract, the more you keep."

He looked now to Meii-Nu Suu Meii-Nu Suu , and Aerarii Tithe Aerarii Tithe , "Offloading and distributing this material- both the Cortosis itself and the byproduct Duranium and Titanium would fall to you both under my proposal. Between you, you have access to a distribution and sales network that spans the galaxy, and the banking facilities to convert to and from all currencies.

In addition, Chief Executive Suu can act as an economic and political barrier between all parties present, ensuring that none of our constituent activities or loyalties impact the overall endeavor.

Everyone does business with the same bank, and all the money the bank handles is cleansed by its anonymity.

For the sale and monetary conversions and associated laundering, I propose the Bank retain five-percent of money moved.
The Trade Federation's trade network can retain five-percent of all Cortosis sales as a commission. The more Cortosis ore sold and distributed, the more profits you would make. The acquisition of the ore costs you nothing, so this represents a pure profit opportunity on an in-demand product."

Now he looked to Lady Santhe, "As for the byproduct Duranium and Titanium, House Mecetti wishes to undergo a major ship-building project currently which could make significant use of it. However, I do not desire to undertake this project under the eye of the Galactic Alliance.

Santhe Sienar's capacity for shipbuilding exceeds that of House Mecetti,"
Admitting this seemed to pain him, "and you are far from the prying eyes of the Alliance. The ship-building project I envision will far exceed the revenues Mecetti Nationalized Industries will be earning from patent-use fees related to our other proposed agreement.

So I propose the byproduct ore be diverted exclusively to Santhe Sienar for its use over a period of two years- enough to cover the construction costs of the ships I wish to have built. Thereafter, I propose you purchase the byproduct ore from us on a continuing basis of 2% under market value, as determined by the Banking Guild.

With things the way they are in the galaxy, this byproduct is a drop in the bucket compared to your overall needs. Still, it should be no pain for you to pick up some extra ore, and at a guaranteed discount under market value.

The Mine will be earning a decent profit from byproducts that aren't even accounted for in the Mine's profitability profile."

Finally, he regarded Alicia Drey Alicia Drey , "And you will earn many millions of credits as a minority partner, without having to lift a single proverbial finger."

He coughed again, then opened up the floor.

"Comments, Counter-proposals, and Suggestions are welcome."

At first, there was a mild concern of the yelling of 'Silence" and the activation of the white light. It was something like he had never seen, and even threw his protocol droid, Thirty-Seven, for a loop. Makai knew the droid was highly programmed to threat assess, if something was about to happen he would have been warned and Thirty-Seven would have went into a defensive mode. Yet the protocol droid stood at the back of his chair, off to the side, waiting in case he was needed in negotiations.

It was evident it was some type of security measure, something within the security systems of the vessel perhaps.

Shoulders relaxed a little as he listened to Mister Mecetti. It seemed the man went ahead and proposed himself the leader of sorts in this endeavor. It wasn't surprising. Appearing to be the oldest in the group, Makai also knew Mecetti was a Senator for his planet. Naturally, it was most likely in his wheelhouse to start negotiations and bending the conversation to his will. He was wise enough to know that Mecetti didn't get where he was by not ensuring himself or his planet was put first in all situations.

Baby faced as he was, Makai had an advantage others his age did not ; the tutelage of one Danger Arceneau Danger Arceneau . The half-Galan had been observing the woman since he was six years old, sitting patiently at her desk as she conducted business with ease. Some things made it natural for her, for one he didn't have the cleavage to distract men and women alike during discussions. Two, he didn't have that sultry charm that oozed from every pore. However, he did have the advantage of being perhaps underestimated, especially since the group was anticipating his father attending this meeting originally.

"Thank you, Mister Mecetti, for beginning these conversations. You've brought up some excellent points, if I may counter propose and suggest at the same time on the behalf of Salacia Consolidated?"

A slight pause, no objections thus far.

"Your proposal of seven percent is quite low for the work that lies ahead. Cortosis mining is extremely dangerous, as many of you may know, touching cortosis will kill any sentient in the galaxy who touches it with bare skin, not to mention the gas build-up. Many of you may not be aware cortosis mining must be done by hand with hydraulic jacks. Cortosis also gums up the works of equipment, the cost alone of changing bits and maintenance will be quite daunting."

"With all this being said, Salacia Consolidated has a certain reputation to maintain. The company pays well, we have extensive benefits, and our safety record is unmatched. Its because we invest in our sentient workers due to the dangerous nature of the work. In order to achieve high quality and maximum production, wages will need to follow suit. Many of you may balk at this, but if we take care of the miners production will be through the roof, I have seen it myself time and time again."

A small pause before his proposal.

"Salacia Consolidated will need fifteen percent of all materials extracted. Alternatively, we could settle on ten percent of all material extracted but payment for high quality miners, safety equipment, hazard pay, and equipment upkeep and maintenance, would come from yourself Mister Mecetti, as you have the majority stake. However, if you go this route it will be demanded you meet our exacting labor standards as the Salacia name depends on it."

The conference was in full swing, with the first topic being the Cortosis Mine. It was interesting to note that Alicia Drey Alicia Drey , the mine's owner, was willing to offer up to sixty percent of the shares in exchange for a hefty sum of ten million dataries.

This deal seemed quite lucrative and aligned perfectly with the Trade Federation of Planets' objective of gaining control over galactic minerals and resources entering 900 ABY. However, they were a bit late to such an affair as the Mecetii Nationalized Industries had already taken over the operation before the conference was even announced.

The sneaky move was both cunning and logical, considering the chaotic era the galaxy was going through. With criminal organizations and foreign forces plotting against the ruling superpower in the Galactic Alliance, it was no surprise that such a calculated scheme was put into action.

Cortosis, despite its value, posed a danger to those who handled it directly, necessitating specialized extraction procedures for any hope of turning a profit. Unfortunately, the Trade Federation deemed this investment unwise during such a crucial moment in galactic affairs. There was a glance towards the mine's newest administrator, Casteban Mecetti Casteban Mecetti although much of what was said was deemed unimportant until the Trade Federation was directly mentioned, which gave the Gossam Councilwoman some pause as the information was processed fully.

"Only a small fraction, specifically five percent, of cortosis sales being allocated as a commission for a substance as hazardous as this, does not bring significant benefits to the Trade Federation of Planets. Despite your assertion that this presents a chance for pure profit, you fail to address the rules and regulations that oversee such substances in our primary market, the Galactic Alliance. To maintain economic viability in this enterprise, we insist on receiving a higher percentage of twenty percent from all sales commissions before we proceed any further." Meii-Nu explained with several long vowels and annunciations, after Makai Dashiell Makai Dashiell got done speaking.

As Alicia walked along the outskirts of the meeting, smoking on her cigarette and listening to the verbal exchanges she found herself impressed by Makai Dashiell Makai Dashiell . I think you will prove most useful over the next few years, Alicia thought to herself as the young man carefully navigated this tense negotiation. As she passed by the seat of Meii-Nu Suu Meii-Nu Suu Alicia exhaled a plume of smoke as the Trade Federation cunningly played for a larger percentage than the one offered by Casteban Mecetti Casteban Mecetti .

Dropping the cigarette from her hand and stubbing it out with her feet Alicia returned to her seat. Leaning forward into the microphone in front of her, she interjected into the proceedings. "While I accept the positions of Mecetti Industries, Salacia and the Federation there are some inconsistencies in your responses."

"At a personal cost to Mecetti Industries the Barracks situated outside of the mine have been reopened with a new colony of workers on the payroll of the Senator and his fiefdom. It is projected that in the first quarter of operation the Mecetti will recoup their original investment into manning the colony with supplies of foodstuff, security and other provisions to make the colony work. Whereas the buy out for sixty percent put on offer by yours truly will take more time to recoup."

"As for Salacia Consolidated your presence here at these negotiations is the acquisition of your considerable skill and market knowledge in the extraction and sale of Cortosis, as well as the secondary and tertiary discoveries of Duranium and Titanium. The Mecetti have the manpower already in place to begin the mining and the operation can begin in earnest once Salacia agrees too it's role as administrators and consultants too myself and the other new owners. Therefore, while your offer of manpower is appreciated, your projected costs in your proposed role are negligible in reality as a colony is already ready to begin the work and so I find myself in agreement with the Senator's proposals."

"Of course, we will ensure that the reputation of Salacia remains undamaged by your participation in this venture. This opportunity for Salacia is not only the chance to get your foot in on Obredaan but to enter into business relations with myself, the good Senator and his son, Santhe-Sienar and, of course, the Trade Federation, whom I am looking forward to welcoming in as partners in this business. If Salacia cannot agree to the seven percent generously offered by Senator Mecetti then we will look elsewhere to your competitors, such as
Amnen Mineral Holdings."

Alicia turned her gaze to Meii-Nu Suu Meii-Nu Suu . As the Human locked eyes with the Gossam she knew that she was about take that familiar walk down the line where if she fell off it would lead to catastrophe, or ruin. But nothing was never gained without first being wagered.

"While your presence in the Federal Assembly and membership of the Galactic Alliance is appreciated we both know that Alliance space is not the only market that the Trade Federation deals in. Sat at this conference is the head of Santhe-Sienar: the biggest manufacturer and redistributor of technology in the Empire of the Lost. Your membership of the Imperial Economic Council in the newly rising Dark Empire also offers market opportunities to the Trade Federation in both these quadrants of space. I am confident Santhe-Sienar will want to make and offer Cortosis products, while I know from my own personal sources that the Dark Empire will be waging operations against the Jedi Order. Naturally, with Cortosis weaponry and other products will be desirable to the organisations that serve Emperor Solipsis. Members of the Dark Side Elite, for example, will undoubtedly want Cortosis made available to them due too it's properties and ability to stop Lightsabers, with the added effect of it's capability to short-circuit the weapons of the Jedi."

"It would also be of interest to the Trade Federation that Emperor Velran Kilran Velran Kilran has initiated hostilities against the Sith Order. Like the Jedi these Sith wield Lightsabers, and so Cortosis being made available to the Empire of the Lost is a new opportunity that the Trade Federation can exploit by entering into this business relationship today."

"Furthermore, with my association to the Trade Federation, the avenues of the black market would be made available to the Federation, and indeed, the other organisations represented in this Obredaan Peel. I have a vast amount of contacts- criminal in nature, of course- who would pay absurd amounts of credits to get their hands on Cortosis weapons, crates and other technologies which require it's use in manufacture. Not only would they pay for the ore or products that we would put up for sale, but also for my discretion. One example I can think of would be the Tsis'Kaar. The Sith Order will be continuing their attacks on the Galactic Alliance, so much like the Dark Empire, Cortosis will be highly coveted and desirable to these people. As I just mentioned the Sith Order have a new hostile in the Empire of the Lost, who retain the service of their own Inquisitors. These are well trained Force-sensitives set to enter battle with the Sith on a number of fronts. Therefore, just as Cortosis weaponry will be of use to the Imperials on one side, they too will be of use to the Sith on the other."

"Therefore the trade tariffs, taxes or interference of the Alliance can be circumvented by entering into business with us. As it is for the Sith Lords and Dark Jedi who serve in the ranks of the Sith Order and Dark Empire, there will no doubt be heroes in the Galactic Alliance and Lost Empire who will be desperate for Cortosis themselves. As war breaks out between these factions, we as excavators, distributors, proprietors, and heads of business are in position to use this war to our advantage. We can play both sides and therefore open up their respective markets. The part acquisition of this mine and it's operation offers Cortosis as a product alongside the other services that the Trade Federation can play to all four sides, and naturally, by entering into business with me I can act as an intermediary for your business with the enemies of all four of these factions during the times where the Federation cannot be seen with them."

"With these facts in mind I propose an adjustment to the offer made by the good Senator that would see Mecetti Industries part ways with twenty percent of the offered sixty for shares in the Cortosis mine, with the Federation being brought in as co-owners to sit alongside myself and Casteban Mecetti. This would see the redistribution of shares to an equal forty-forty split for myself and Senator Mecetti, with the additional twenty being allocated to the Federation in exchange for their buyout and investment."

"Not only would this arrangement see the Federation recoup more profit from entering into this business relationship as a twenty percent shareholder of the mine, but would also solve the issues raised by Councillor Suu, as well as give the Federation more reach outside of the Alliance at this difficult time. With the Galactic Alliance at war with the Sith, Imperials and Mandalorians the Federation must seek opportunities outside of the systems that are now at risk of invasion. By entering into this business relationship with myself and my associates this opening on Obredaan is the beginning of a long and prosperous association."

Alicia paused her counter-offer to activate the holographic projector in the centre of the conference room. She had just effectively offered the Trade Federation the means to play several galactic powers at the same time by entering into this business relationship. By becoming the manufacturer and distributor to the Sith Order, Dark Empire, Galactic Alliance and even the Empire of the Lost of Cortosis it would open up other avenues for trade and commerce. If the organisations and clients who served their respective faction sought out Cortosis from one of them then other products or services could also be negotiated.

But it was still a tense offer. While it would bring the Trade Federation into the arrangement Alicia risked alienating Casteban Mecetti Casteban Mecetti . They had made an agreement for the full sixty percent on board the Meniium. Was the black mail that she had on both Mecetti enough to convince Casteban to support her in this deal? Did he also see the opportunity politically here? In the Trade Federation Casteban had the chance to acquire an alliance in the Federal Assembly. A relationship that, if it could be cultivated, would be an extremely benefitable arrangement for Alicia, and the beginning of a road home for Maldor Mecetti Maldor Mecetti out of his imposed exile on Lianna.

As the holographic projector came to life it begun displaying a miniature representation of Obredaan. On the map several points of interests were now being highlighted all over the planet. Alicia continued her counter-proposal after the projector begun to play.

"The reopening of my Cortosis mine with your buyouts and investment is merely the beginning of our operations here on Obredaan. Across the planet there are many other Cortosis mines that are either in operation by competitors, or they have been left abandoned since Emeritus Industries closed, or are in the hands of criminal pirates utilizing slave labour to keep them operational. If we can agree to the terms set by Senator Mecetti and myself we can look towards expansion through the acquisitions of these other mines. A promise, in fact, that will obligate us into this business once the contracts are made and signed today."

Another bold move. As Alicia reclined back in her seat she kept her gaze upon the Gossam. How would the Councillor respond to her counter-offer and proposal? Would she take this opportunity to reveal to the other delegates that Alicia Drey was a member of the New Sith Order? That she was Darth Ayra: a Sith Lord recently freed from the clutches of the Galactic Alliance by Operation: Absolution? The former One Sith who destroyed the Galactic Republic over half-a-century ago? Or would she come to see things her way?

There was also the existence of Lodd Grimmin Lodd Grimmin . Did the Trade Federations representative in the Federal Assembly know about Meii-Nu Suu Meii-Nu Suu and Aerarii Tithe Aerarii Tithe 's participation in the rise of the Dark Empire? Given the Senators comments during Castor Crane Castor Crane 's conference on Canto Blight would these delegates sat here in the Obredaan Peel be aghast at the idea of conspiring with Alicia's criminal contacts, and indeed, the likes of Darth Malum of House Marr Darth Malum of House Marr and his Tsis'Kaar?

Just how much did the board members of the Trade Federation know about? And what were they willing to sell or exploit to meet their own needs?

Son of a....

Given Mecetti's proposal, the half-Galan had assumed Salacia Consolidated would be providing labor and equipment for the mines themselves. In such a case, he hoped his counter proposal didn't seem out of line. Seven percent was laughable for the work that was going to be needed to get the operation online in a quick and secure manner. Seven percent for working as consultants and administrators to a cortosis mine? It seemed more in line with such a task.

As Miss Drey continued speaking, her focus more now on the Trade Federation, Makai took the time to mentally debate the offer. He was working in an odd position ; his father had spoke to the woman at some business event, mentioned his name. Trouble was, when Judah went on his sabbatical, Makai had left in a lurch on what exactly was proposed and mentioned. With his father acting like a petulant child, there had been no way to discern which direction Miss Drey had wanted Salacia to take. Now here he was, looking like an utter idiot, and having to do some extremely quick backpedaling.

"My apologies Miss Drey, Senator Mecetti. Salacia's role in this operation had been unclear to myself. I was understandably under the impression Salacia would be providing labor, equipment, and much of the effort to get the operation running and off the ground. Forgive me if the proposal then seemed out of line in such a situation."

Makai couldn't be brash in this moment. Listening to Miss Drey speak, there was the potential for more business. There was a need to push his own agenda and ensure Salacia wasn't shafted, but also a need to appear flexible enough to work with others. No other company wanted to work with a complete push over ; they were all here to make credits.

"Seven percent for consulting and administration work is more than acceptable."

Casteban regarded Drey for a long moment.

Not for the first time, he considered how valuable someone like her could be on his payroll.

Certainly, she was too dangerous to be on someone else's. Though, given the current developments and twisting of her original offer, it seemed that she might be on her own side, primarily.

"Yes, Chief Executive Dashiell, I neglected to emphasize that I will be able to provide the meat for the proverbial grinder. But I don't have your expertise or knowledge. You'd only be providing supervisors, trainers, administrators, and technical advisors. Perhaps five percent of the overall workforce at the mine. The citizens of the Mecetti Province will be happy to risk their lives in this profitable endeavor, for the sake of our Province's prosperity."

Then he looked to Alicia, "However, I will require a majority share, to avoid voting delays and difficulties. I propose House Mecetti take fifty-one percent as opposed to the original sixty. This will give you a greater stake than before, while allowing us to streamline decision making. No one can match House Mecetti's acumen for business. It will be a majority well earned and exercised, to your benefit."

Finally, Mr. Suu. "No doubt there are tariffs, taxes, importation hurdles. I am happy to provide you the deal of a lifetime. Collect receipts for such, from government authorities as may impose them, and I will pay such costs. Your part will truly be pure profit, thanks to your distribution network and money handling facilities.

Of course, I will have the House Mecetti Ministry of Inquiry confirm all such costs... To make sure that the governmental agencies are not dealing with you unfairly."

The message was clear: Don't split bribes with government agents as a way to steal more profit.

"Any objections?"

The Gossam cast a disinterested gaze at Alicia Drey Alicia Drey while the Sith Lord delivered a monotonous and all-encompassing sales presentation, aiming to persuade the Trade Federation of Planets to wholeheartedly back this venture by presenting alternative proposals and guaranteeing profitability in the Cortosis Mine.

Prior to attending the conference, there was ample time to thoroughly examine the briefing and datacrons provided by the Director of the Trade Federation regarding their host.

It was evident to the Councilwoman that this host had a significant connection with the Empire of the Lost, which also raised suspicions about their potential alliance with the deranged Emperor Velran Kilran.

Santhe-Sienar, was one of a handful of key organizations operating in the region, and the market trends showed promise when the Empire was formerly established. However, there was open hostility to the Trade Federation during their first ever conference, providing detrimental to establishing any meaningful relationshop. Such a partnership now would be rather unprofitable even with the Cortosis Sales.

"I will commend you on delievering a suppar sales-pitch with such enjoyment. It seems your intelligence skills aren't as formidable as you claim if you weren't aware that the Empire of the Lost had already previously dismissed us as an equitable partner during a previous conference." Meii-Nu said in her usual tone of voice, raising her small eye glasses to glance at the passing projections on the holographic device. The Minister of the Trade Federation in the Senate Lodd Grimmin Lodd Grimmin , had informed her that Drey was an intelligence gatherer, but here she seemed unable to gather even the most widespread of galactic information.

"I will say one thing, my dear friend. If you think you are playing some kind of grand gesture of deception you are entirely foolish. I've seen your schemes and plots a thousand times before in the Directory of the Federation. You have yet to realize the extent of our tendrils, and that is a fatal mistake to make." She would not voice her opinion on the proposals, expertly changing the tactic into intimation of the host in order to set the record straight. They didn't need any of the associates here, yet had come merely as a polite gesture and nothing more.

"The first rule of business is not to make the mistake of taking things personally," Casteban said from his chair at the head of the table.

"I don't know what has transpired between you and the Empire in the past, but I do know that whatever it is, it doesn't matter."

He planted an index finger onto the long conference room table.

"This is about credits. And your part of this is lucrative, whatever you think of the sales pitch. You certainly did not come here for politeness. The Trade Federation and the Banking clans act for one reason alone in any scenario. No one who is sentimental would have gained your esteemed position.

So... let us come to an arrangement."

He gestured towards Alicia, "I am sure if you need an apology, one can be delivered. But it will be worth less than credits.

And credits, at the end of the day, are what we all pursue here.

Especially you."

Wow, who pissed in her caf.

Makai listened to the Trade Federation Representative and Senator Mecetti, picking up a carafe of water and pouring a glass for himself.

In his opinion, the woman was being childish. This was a launching pad for something more, even he could see it plain as day. Perhaps the Trade Federation had been unwise to send such a Representative to this type of conference. This was business, feelings needed to be pushed to the side. One could always pout later when negotiations are through.

Iced azure eyes looked between Senator Mecetti and Representative Suu.

"I propose we cut the Trade Federation out of the deal. Clearly they are unable to handle the Galactic Alliance."

A bold statement but Makai did not want to listen to a petulant Representative complain for hours on end.

"MaraTibX, under the Arceneau Trade umbrella, will move it for five percent. A neutral party, I assure you Danger Arceneau Danger Arceneau would have no such problems Representative Suu claims she will encounter."

Of course Makai was going to plug his future mother-in-law for the job. Arceneau Trade was already a neutral party and already had a cortosis mine, so the half-Galan knew they were skilled as well as having the equipment needed.

"The second rule of business, Mr Mecetii is to always see through the acting of others regardless of the circumstances." The Gossam stared at Casteban Mecetti Casteban Mecetti with an emotionless expression, silently conveying their disappointment in his failure to understand the importance of treating every interaction and spoken word during a conference as if it were performed by a seasoned actor. No display of emotions, and definitely no outright rejection of a potentially profitable agreement with the Empire of the Lost, could occur without a hidden agenda at play, something that would eventually be revealed to the public eye.

The secret plan revolved around the continuation of Operation Pax Allianca. The initial step was to provide the Trade Federation with a naive candidate for the role of Imperial Despot, who would later become the Grand Vizier and potentially elevate her to the position of Economic Minister. By leveraging this influential role, they aimed to strike a more advantageous agreement with the Empire of the Lost within the confines of a formal government setting, thereby maximizing their ability to exploit Cortosis.

"We would be more than happy to relieve ownership over to Mr Dashiell. Although it would be a shame if the Federal Assembly opened an investigation based on evidence from an esteemed member that MaraTibX was engaged in the transportation of hazardous substances, causing quite a loss in public opinion." The Gossam said, with nary an emtion glancing over to Makai Dashiell Makai Dashiell with dead-beat eyes to indiciate that the Trade Federation was not a pawn that you simply remove from the ocassion. Their ally within the Senate Lodd Grimmin Lodd Grimmin could push such an investigation, and might potentially find evidence of collusion with the Dark Empire as well.

Alicia cupped her hands together and leaned her chin upon the tops of her fingers in thought as she listened to Meii-Nu Suu Meii-Nu Suu . The offer that Alicia had made for the Trade Federation had been fantastic. It would have cut them in on an operation that, up until the very point of this meeting, they had been unaware of. They would have gained access to a rare substance that, according to Alicia's intelligence, they did not currently have. It had been a good offer that the Trade Federation had elected not to take. It bothered Alicia. Why would they turn down such a thing? It didn't make sense.

Then there was the matter of the information Alicia had retained before the start of this meeting, or so she thought. Seemingly someone in the Empire of the Lost had made efforts to oppose the Federation operating within their space in the past, and now Meii-Nu Suu was using it as leverage to deny Alicia's advances. Either that, or the cunning Gossam was lying to cover up an ulterior scheme that Alicia did not know about, and was also using it to confront her own ulterior motives in the Obredaan Peel. The possibilities were numerous, to say the least, and if Alicia were honest, she did not know much about the interstellar corporation or it's activities to really tell why Councillor Suu had declined her proposal. Not yet, at least.

Recently freed from a prison on Coruscant meant that Alicia was missing a fair bit in the ways of knowledge of the key players in the Galaxy. Whatever Meii-Nu Suu was up too she would inevitably find out. With their positions in the Dark Empire, and any future dealings with the Empire of the Lost, it would be difficult for the Federation to conduct any business without her knowing about it. But Alicia was a quick study, and a good learner. She had her own card up her sleeve to use in today's proceedings if the Gossam wanted to play dirty.

As the Councillor was about to discover.

"I think you will advise your friend in the Assembly that it would be unwise for him to reveal such facts to his fellow Senators," Alicia replied. Inexplicably Meii-Nu had countered her lucrative offer, and in turn, questioned Alicia's place as an information broker: a position that she had touted to the likes of Lodd Grimmin Lodd Grimmin and other participants in a recent gathering on Canto Blight, on the eve of the Corporate Sector Authorities rejuvenation efforts. That position would have to be remedied immediately. It wasn't in Alicia's best interests if the likes of the Trade Federation of Planets could get the better of her. Her business with the likes of Castor Crane Castor Crane was very important and were not to be undermined by the Federation.

She had to earn their respect.

"Our mutual associate was seen recently at the Barahunde. Should the Federal Assembly become aware of this deal then, perhaps, they will be also interested to know that such a prominent member of the Assembly was sighted at such an event, so far away from the Alliance, and in the company of their enemies in the Sith Order. Not a good look for the Federation to have, especially given the recent policies and voting that have occurred on the Assembly. A displeasure that my associate from Obulette will undoubtedly share with the likes of Senator Grimmin, and yourself. Who knows what the Jedi would do to him given the on-going conflict between them and the Sith?"

If Meii-Nu was going to make vague threats, or implications, then Alicia would meet her on that field. She rather enjoyed the confrontation. Even though the Economic Councillor had disrupted Alicia's scheming- first by refusal of her generous offer, and secondly threatening the stature of another associates of hers through the vague threat of revealing the Obredaan Peel to the Galactic Alliance's Federal Assembly- they had shown the type of strength, and character that Alicia sought to recruit. If the Federation could not be brought into the fold today then there was always going to be another way to go about it. It left a lot of room to wonder what it would take if a slice of a Cortosis mine was not enough to begin business with them.

Lifting her chin up from her hands Alicia elected to move the conversation away from the sudden tension that had filled the room. They were here to conduct business and were not here to bring the Obredaan Peel into disrupte.

"Councillor Suu. Let us not disrupt these proceedings by implying that I am here to somehow deceive yourself or the others sat here at this meeting. There is no ulterior motive to the agenda that brought us here together today. Let us not bring the good standing of the likes of Senator Grimmin or Ms. Arceneau into this. It is unnecessary. The Federation's presence at this Obredaan Peel is to conduct business. I suggest we keep it there."

With a gesture of her hand Alicia waved towards Casteban. "My associate from Obulette shares a seat with Lodd Grimmin on the Federal Assembly. By bringing the Trade Federation into this deal I sought to create a permanent partnership between Obulette and the Federation to form a political block within the Alliance so that the two of you may confer and arrange support regarding policies, debates or other politicking that may affect one or the other. This arrangement is our fifth item of discussion at todays meeting. Let us move on from the business of the mine, and move onto the next item on our agenda today."

Turning her gaze to Makai Dashiell Makai Dashiell Alicia said: "The offer to bring Danger Arceneau Danger Arceneau into this deal is something that I am not against. If the Senator is agreed then let us finalize our agreements in writing and move on to discuss the next item on our agenda which is also the finalization of separate agreement between Mecetti Nationalized Industries and Santhe-Sienar."

As the meeting was brought to it's second item Alicia brought up a contract she had already drafted prior. Taking the time to remove the Trade Federation of Planets from the original draft Alicia replaced them with MaraTibX and Danger Arceneau Danger Arceneau while the various delegates continued to discuss the items put forward by their host at the beginning of the meeting.

Casteban looked at Suu for a long moment, trying to discern what was really going on, here.

Had they really just threatened to out attendees of this meeting to the Galactic Alliance? To get Dashiell investigated, potentially arrested?

That was such a strange thing to say. Suu was as exposed as anyone else, as Alicia swiftly pointed out. But they would have known that before speaking the threat.

Why make an empty threat that would be instantly countered?

And if they weren't interested in this deal themselves, why threaten someone who was?

That threat betrayed one of three possibilities.

1) They were indeed interested in this deal, but wanted better terms.

2) They did not care about the opinions of the Galactic Alliance, so a counter to their threat was of no concern.
or...

3) They wanted to scuttle this deal because they wanted to deny this Cortosis to these parties.

Not knowing which of these possibilities was true weighed heavily upon Casteban's mind.

But the business at hand turned, and he turned his mind along with it.

The time had come to ink the deal.

"This is acceptable. With appreciation for Chief Executive Dashiell and his insight of involving MaraTibx.

An astute solution to an unnecessary dilemma."

He placed the House Mecetti Nationalized Industries' electronic seal on the document.

He looked to Suu.

"As mighty as we are, House Mecetti does not come close to matching the power, strength, and influence of you and your partners. I have always admired your operations, their reach, and their enduring immensity. You have always been pragmatic. You have always been builders, with a vision that persists through difficult times.

That having been said, it takes so much less power to break something than it does to build and maintain it. A lesson on Empire, which has been gifted to us by countless rebellions throughout the ages.

I wish you a long and prosperous future, free of such concerns."

Looking over the contract, Makai was unconcerned with the stipulation of being unable to use the ores in his own business. He could easily have his fiancee manufacture the items for him and sell, the profits landing back in his pockets either way. Not that he saw much of a reason to use the ores in this moment, but one could never be sure in life.

The Trade Federation balking was odd. Makai suspected something was not above board but not enough to balk and dig in their heels like a child. Especially with such an outburst, a mere declining of the offer and keeping business moving would have been much more acceptable in his eyes. Then the lashing out to have an investigation into his and Arceneau Trade, completely uncalled for, although he had nothing to hide. Trying to figure out their why wasn't important to him. Perhaps as they continued to sit and discuss things some puzzle pieces may fall into place.

It appeared his business was mostly done now. They were moving onto the next agenda which concerned Mecetti and his company. The half-Galan would listen, always curious to see what else was happening in the business world in the galaxy. Especially with so much conflict lately. Makai hated to say it, but depending on the nature of said business, war was making it boom. Credits were rolling in. Not much to complain about, well, except for the razing of company owned buildings.
