OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: For my characters to host conversations without fear of being recorded or heard by others.
  • Canon Link: N/A.
  • Permissions: DSDT Program - #419420-1129391-418525
  • Primary Source: N/A.
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • It can form a barrier around an entire group of people which creates a static that distorts and obfuscates all conversation or sound taking place within.
  • Recording devices, or software will not be able too pick up any conversation, or sound taking place within the barrier.
STRENGTHS
  • No Sound: Anyone inside the barrier (created by this technology) cannot be heard by anyone, or anything outside of it. For the purposes of hosting conversations that wish to be kept private, or off the record, there is a clear advantage here. The same is true for any other types of sound that may take place inside the barrier i.e explosions, gunfire etc. No sound will permeate or get through the barrier if the technology is active. There are no exceptions here. It is a complete, clear, indomitable wall of sheer and utter silence. Not to be interpreted or argued any differently other than that.
  • No Recording: Anyone or anything attempting to record conversations, or sound, (which take place within the barrier) will not be able to do so. If someone were to try and take a recording of a conversation, or any sounds made in this barrier, then it would play complete and utter silence to them or anyone else trying to listen too it.
  • No Transmissions: Any technology trying to transmit to someone, or something else outside the barrier, will fail. This includes audio transmissions, holographic transmissions or any other form of technology that 'transmits' a frequency. No frequencies can get through the barrier. Useful for anyone trying to activate a bomb, or device if found located within these rays of eerie, white light.
WEAKNESSES
  • Sight: Just because nobody can hear you scream doesn't mean somebody can't see it happening. Anyone inside this barrier can still be clearly seen by others outside of it. A cunning individual might even have ideas or desires too record the mouths of the occupiers inside these rays of white light to transcribe their conversation later on.
  • No Sound: Advantages can be turned on their head. If you were to try to call for help, and were inside this barrier, then nobody is going to hear it. Ironic.
  • It can be turned off: Just as easily as it can be activated another can deactivate the technology. It is voice activated, so a cunning individual might replicate the voice of the owner in order to deactivate the technology, or a Force-user may use a technique to turn it off, or a well placed shot or explosion would result in it's deactivation as well. Either way- regardless of how someone does it- the technology can be deactivated, and when it does, instant sound returns.
  • There is nothing there: The barrier stops frequencies coming or going. That doesn't mean it stops anything physical. If someone wanted to cross the barrier to hear what was going on the other side, then they certainly can do it, and conversely the occupants inside the barrier could be attacked by someone outside of it, which would be ironic because they wouldn't hear them coming.
DESCRIPTION

Inside dark rooms aboard vessels, buildings or vehicles a projector hangs from the ceiling. A user can activate this technology via a voice command, or prompt. The same can be achieved through a remote control, or a well trained Force-user can reach out with the Force to activate the technology. Regardless of how it is accomplished, when brought online, the technology forms an indomitable, eerie ray of light which rays produce no noise. These rays of light are reminiscent too light sculptures but the key difference is that, instead of obfuscating a Force-sensitives powers, this light erects a barrier so powerful that to any not caught within it's rays it would be akin to hearing nothing. That is to say- to any outsider of it's walls- complete silence permeates to anyone, or anything outside of the light. It is an indomitable, translucent, eerie, formidable stretch of complete and utter silence.

Cerillium, a material mainly used in the manufacture of droids, forms the composite used to host the technology from which a projector overhead produces the light. Much like a Goorlish light source the inventor and subsequent designer of this technology- Alicia Drey Alicia Drey - sought to create an eerie, dark setting from an artistic point of view when the technology is active. Following the ideologies and pathology of the Dark side of the Force Alicia enjoyed the idea of light- a substance commonly used to represent the opposite of her beliefs- to create a unique experience for herself (and other users of the technology) to create an indomitable wall of silence around them, where no sound permeates the light which shines around them. This resonates with the ideology and pathology of the dark side quite well which she finds ironic given the beliefs of the Jedi.

As the founder of the DSDT Program- a surveillance apparatus operating within the territories of the Empire of the Lost- Alicia sought to remedy anyone, or anything listening in to her conversations, business or dealings within the Empire through the creation of this technology. Conversely, the technology is applicable outside of the Empire in a number of hosts and venues where Alicia, or other users operate, and who may desire the means to converse, or obfuscate their actions without being heard by unwanted listeners. Although designed in mind for small, or large gatherings, the technology is malleable for personal use.

For example, a user could activate the technology on their person in a public venue, if the desire ever arises. Whatever the situation, and the number of possibilities this technology could be utilized in, one thing is for certain: nobody is going to hear you scream.

The Cerillium composites designed to host the technology are capable of forming small, hand held projectors that can achieve the same silence as it's much larger versions. If a handheld version of the technology were in use it's subsequent rays of light would not be as strong and therefore would not achieve the same effect of silencing an entire group, or crowd of people. However, for an individual, or couple, the same eerie silence would befall them if activated and the sounds happening in their vicinity would be obfuscated until the technology was deactivated, or destroyed.

For transparency, and to clear up any confusion, the technology would still work even if it were activated in a well lit room, or in broad day, or any form of venue which produces natural or artificial light. Yes, the artistic value of the rays and it's eeriness would certainly be lost in this scenario, but the same indomitable silence would still be present if the technology were active.

The Cone of Silence is a tribute to the same piece of technology from the Dune Universe and subsequently shares the same name.

Very cool piece of technology! However You wrote it has minor production scale which means:
Minor (Large groups of characters. (IE: A Single Major Faction, a few companies, or groups.),
But you wrote two Major Factions and a Minor faction to the Affiliation. So I would like to ask you to modify it to Mass Production, or defines the groups in the Major Factions who can use this technology.
And I would like to ask you to link the Tsis'Kaar to the Affiliation, or if there is no link to it, I would like to ask you to remove it.
