OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION
  • Shipyards Name: Facility 12
  • Classification: Orbital Shipyards
  • Location: Osseriton
  • Affiliation: Brotherhood of the Maw, (formerly Obsidian Star Aerospace, Obsidian Star Technologies and Obsidian Star BioMed)
  • Population: Moderately Staffed
  • Accessibility: Built almost entirely in secret, the biggest impediment to entering Facility 12 is knowing that it exists. Those who do know of its existence and choose to make the journey deep into the Unknown Regions will find that it is protected by a small network of OSA-08 Orbital Defense Satellites and a single Khiluum-class defense platform, which houses two squadrons of Ares Space Superiority Fighters. In addition, while on board the station strict security measures ensure that only authorized persons are permitted in any sensitive areas.
  • Description: Facility 12 is capable of constructing up to 20 capital class ships at a time using external dry-dock frames, with varying build times based on tonnage and size. In addition, Facility 12 can construct up to 100 corvette or small type ships using it's internal production facilities, again with build times depending on size and tonnage. It uses a lot more automation than its sister facility The Forge and as such has a much smaller staff population.
OPERATIONS INFORMATION
  • Production: Starfighters, Passenger Ships, Corvettes, Frigates, Cruisers, Star Destroyers, Super Star Destroyers
  • Specialty: Cruisers. Obsidian Star Adamant Class Heavy Cruisers are considered to be one of the most durable and resilient capital ships in the galaxy.
  • Output:
    • The Forge-Class Shipyard can produce up to 20 capital ships at a time using external dry-dock frames and hundreds of D0-T7 Astromech Droids. Average build times for ships varies on size and tonnage, but can generally be assumed to take:
      • 9-12 months for an SSD
      • 3-4 months per Star Destroyer
      • 2-3 months per Cruiser
      • 1-2 months per Frigate
    • As well, the Forge-Class Shipyard has the internal facilities to build up to 100 Corvette or smaller ships at a time. Again average build times are based on size and tonnage, but can generally be assumed to take:
      • 3-4 weeks per Corvette
      • 1-2 weeks per Small Transport or Starfighter
  • Market: While Obsidian Star Aerospace is a major supplier to the Silver Jedi Concord, this Facility was constructed to allow the construction of vessels outside their purview. As such, the market for this facility was far smaller and generally extended to prototypes and semi-unique vessels for various anonymous organizations. Following the Facility's capture by the Brotherhood of the Maw, it serves as the factions primary ship building facility.
POINTS OF INTEREST
  • External Dry-Dock Frames: Facility 12 has twenty external dry-dock frames for building capital ships.
  • Internal Construction Bays: Facility 12 has an extensive network of internal construction and fabrication areas for the production of parts and smaller spacecraft.
  • Central Operations Level: From the central operations level, supervision is kept on the various building efforts as well as the performance of essential systems. The station's central power plant is located on this level.
  • Crew Living Quarters and Recreation Facilities: Crew quarters for station personnel can be found on this level, so can several mess halls, gymnasiums and the infirmary.
  • Security Command and Control: Security command and control exists on the Khiluum-class defense platform that is stationed nearby Facility 12. From this area, the outer defense parameter is manned and defensive fighter squadrons are scrambled. In addition, the platform's defenses can be manned from this level.
  • Outer Defense Parameter: Consists of a network of twenty-five OSA-08 Orbital Defense Satellites and serves as the Facility 12's first line of defense against attack.

SECURITY: High
  • Prior to it's fall to the Brotherhood of the Maw, Facility 12 maintained an approximately 200 person security division on board the main station, a secondary tactical response unit of 50 operators on board the Khiluum Defense Platform, two squadrons of OSA-13 "Ares" Space Superiority Fighters and restricted areas were kept secure with an extensive biometric security devices, motion and infrared sensors and blast doors
  • Following the fall to the Brotherhood of the Maw, the Faction stationed a significant number of soldiers, fighters and ships to protect their newly gained shipyard.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION:

Facility 12 was the brainchild of Obsidian Star Aerospace's shadow owner, Beltran Rarr. As the wars with the Sith and the Bryn'adul continued to ravage the galaxy, he felt it was necessary to create a back-up ship building facility in case the company's main shipyard: The Forge was captured or destroyed. Like its sister facility Facility 12 is based around anOSA-18 "Forge" Class Orbital Shipyard. A heavier degree of automation was used in the construction of this station in order to allow it to operate with a lighter crew complement. It maintained the same level of security as its sister, utilizing a small network of OSA-08 Orbital Defense Satellites and a single Khiluum-class defense platform, which housed two squadrons of Ares Space Superiority Fighters.

Through his association with Beltran Rarr, the Sith Lord Darth Solipsis Darth Solipsis gained knowledge of the secret facility. Mere months after it was completed, the facility was attacked by a small fleet of ships belonging to the Brotherhood of the Maw. With only a pair of fighter squadrons and a small defense array to protect it, the Facility was quickly captured. Once boarded, the Brotherhood killed or converted all those they found and took over operations.

Not wanting to expose the fact that it had built a secret facility away from the eyes of the Silver Concord, Obsidian Star Aerospace and its associate corporations buried any mention of the Facility. If ever directly called out, they would deny ever building such a shipyard. If presented with proof of its existence, the board would respond by accusing the Brotherhood of espionage in order to gain the shipyard's plans.

Following its capture, the Brotherhood of the Maw renamed the facility The Dread Forge.
