Description:

Obsidian Star Technologies is a arms manufacturer based on the planet Denon. It deals primarily in highly specialized weaponry, armor and combat accessories manufactured on a small scale for the highly discerning client or faction. In particular, it is known for creating small, easily concealable but highly deadly weapons and is a quickly becoming a leading force in developing personal protection devices and stealth armor technologies. It currently holds no contracts with any of the major galactic factions, though it accepts private commissions from both individuals and groups.

Rationale:

Obsidian Star Technologies has operated on Denon as a publicly held arms manufacturer for nearly twelve years. Until recently, it was managed by a board and headed by CEO Debbis Endo, a businessman from Coruscant with business interests on a number of Core worlds. Approximately three months ago, Endo was arrested and charged with corporate fraud. The indictment indicates that for several years, Endo had been posting padded profit reports, making it seem as if the company was doing far better than it actually was.

Though Endo was quickly released on bail, the resulting stock devaluation drove the small arms supplier to near bankruptcy. This prompted Endo to turn to a cartel of off-world gangsters known as The Outfit. The deal was simple, The Outfit would supply hard currency to bankroll the flailing corporation, and in return receive payments of clean, traceable funds back. Essentially it was a money laundering operation.

It was during this time that associates of Beltran Rarr became aware of the situation and brought it to his attention. Since The Outfit had been responsible for the murder of Rarr's former employers and had forced the hit-man to flee Lorrd, Rarr and his associates had been looking for any chance to disrupt their operations. Add to that the Lorrdian's increasing interest in developing his own line of weaponry and armor, Rarr saw an opportunity to kill two mynocks with one blaster bolt.

He, along with a group of hired mercenaries, engineered the kidnapping of CEO Debbis Endo, as well as the theft of one of The Outfit's credit shipments. At literal gunpoint, Rarr would force Endo to sign over his controlling interest in the company. In return, Endo would remain alive and enjoy the Rarr's protection. In order to insulate his involvement with the company from the outside galaxy, Beltran also allowed Endo to continue on as CEO of Obsidian Star, while Rarr pulls the strings from the background.
