  • Constructed by the concerted efforts of the Attendants, the Voss Mystics, and the Chosen of Vahl, the Dark Oculus was designed with the sole purpose of divination and prophecy.
  • The Oculus itself was constructed out of Sarrassian Iron interlaid with Nihil Smokestone, the former enriched with the Dark Side of the Force while the latter was a powerful mental conduit for transmitting and receiving.
  • Kyber Crystals, corrupted through the practice of Bleeding, acted as energy capacitors for the Dark Side of the Force.
  • Sith Runes were inscribed upon the Oculus' surface, empowered by Sith Magic to increase the strength and potency of Dark Side visions.
  • The sacrifice of an individual with a sufficient midichlorian count was required to activate the Dark Oculus, with more sacrifices needed to experience stronger visions and exert more control over them.
  • When using the Dark Oculus, the user was imbued with unparalleled clairvoyance through the power of Darksight. This esoteric ability allowed the user to witness powerful visions of potential futures, the knowledge of which could be used to manipulate events to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Overextended use of the Dark Oculus was documented to have adverse side-effects on the mind and the perception of reality, with victims often finding it impossible to distinguish reality from the myriad of visions shown to them by the Oculus.

The Dark Lord Carnifex's obsession with the power of prophecy stretches back before the establishment of the Tenth Sith Empire, and before he had begun to guide fate itself to fulfill his ambitions. His first taste of such power came at the hand of Darth Isolda, whose divination steered the One Sith into dominance at the core of the galaxy for many years. In the One Sith's aftermath, Isolda and many other oracles were brought under Carnifex's control, followed by the enigmatic Attendants, Vahla Fire-Priestesses, and the Voss Mystics.

With their combined knowledge, Carnifex had them create a tool that could harness and focus the energies of the Dark Side to peer beyond the veil of time and space. What they created became known as the Dark Oculus, a four-sided pillar measuring thirty meters in height, and seventeen-point-nineteen meters in both length and width. The pillar was constructed out of Sarrassian Iron and Nihil Smokestone and inscribed with Sith runes. Inside of the pillar was a series of corrupted kyber crystals placed strategically throughout for the most efficient conductivity of the Dark Side. Openings on all four sides of the Oculus revealed portions of the kyber crystal latticework.

To activate the Dark Oculus required intense ritual and sacrifice. Carnifex and his underlings had engineered it so that the slaughter of individuals with a large enough midichlorian count could be used as the catalyst for the Oculus' activation. A single Jedi Knight was often enough to coax forth a vision from the Dark Oculus, although for greater visions and to control the flow the causality much more was required. To aid in the potency of visions, those delving into the visions of the Oculus would consume psychedelic spice that would broaden their perception and focus their minds.

Though originally placed in the Imperial Palace on Bastion, Carnifex moved the Dark Oculus several times during his tenure as Sith Emperor. Now the Dark Oculus resides in a hidden chamber on Malsheem, kept safe and secret from those deemed unworthy of the knowledge of its existence.

As well as knowing the general location, does the user have to know or have knowledge of the target in order to scry for them? That is to say, more than just their name or a vague description?
