- Speed Demon: In terms of raw speed, acceleration, and maneuverability, the Black Starbird is closer to a combat interceptor than a light freighter, boasting massively enhanced engines and extra maneuvering jet arrays.
- Anti-Tracking Countermeasures: Zett has outfitted the Black Starbird with a range of advanced anti-detection, anti-tracking, and spoofing systems to make sure no one ever catches onto him.
- Flying Garage: While it cuts down on cargo space somewhat, Zett expanded the cargo area into a combination storage center and speeder garage for his operations.
- You Got a Permit for That?: Thanks to the obviously oversized engines and added struts, the Black Starbird just barely meets legal starship requirements, and tends to attract a lot of security scrutiny
- Flying Deathtrap: Between the unstable reactor, the oversized, exposed engines, and the lack of advanced shielding or weapons, the Black Starbird can be a threat to its crew as much as a benefit.
- D.I.Y. Project: The Black Starbird requires near-constant tinkering and adjustment, especially after pushing the systems, since a lot of spacer tape and epoxy went into its construction.
The pride and joy of Zett's personal garage, the Black Starbird is the first starship he's ever owned, although with all the work he's put into the ship its hard to imagine what a trade up would look like. Originally stolen from an indebted pilot as part of his shipjacking operation, Zett took a liking to this HWK-1000 light freighter and opted to make the vessel his own. As part of his extensive modifications, he's greatly enhanced the reactor, engines, and maneuvering thrusters to push the already enhanced speed and agility of the freighter into starfighter territory. He also expanded the sensors and electronic countermeasures to make sure no flat-foots get the drop on him while he's out cruising, or realize the ship is stolen.
The Starbird even serves a purpose in his operations, as he upgraded the cargo space to be able to take standard loads or to act as a mobile garage for speeders, with a full range of tools, elevated and mag-locked parking spaces, and speeders lifts for safely getting under vehicles. Many of these additions, especially around the engines and reactor, are less-than-stable, and are at risk of any number of failures due to either internal design issues, or if taking too much external damage.
