There was a bump as Hex's swoop went over a small brook in the grasslands and its altitude compensators, home made like the rest of th vehicle, took a moment to adjust.

As her engine struggled she was beginning to regret not grabbing one of the stock machines for more reliability. <<Hey Lal! Struggling a bit here, want to come give me a hand?>> she laughed into the comm. She had one more thing to try to get her engine going again, people were overtaking her left and right. At least noone was shooting at her just yet.

<<I'm supposed to be winning... aargh!>>

As Joseph Torson's Mynock Swoop Bike lurched forward, suddenly his engines came to an abrupt stood which almost caused him to get straight up launched from his swoop bike. "Fuck! This is not the moment for this" Torson shouted in frustrated tone. He watched helplessly as other bikers moved ahead with only him and Artas Tel Alam lagging behind. After many attempts Torson managed to get his engine up and running once more just as Artas Tel Alam managed to do the same.

Soon enough, Torson would twist the throttle once more and his bike would begin accelerating again soon reaching top speeds as he sought to quickly catch up with those behind him. Hopefully he could catch up to the others and deal some hits to those who were far ahead which if he was lucky enough would slow them down and give him the opportunity he needed to retake the initiative and gain the lead. However one thing was certain, Torson was not out of this race, not yet.

"C'mon, baby. I promise, if you take care of me, I'll take even better care of you..."

Saraiya had her head down, looking with one eye at the systems readouts on the H.U.D. of her visor, the other keeping an eye on the track in front of her. She really wasn't sure what the feth was wrong with this damn swoopbike, but she cursed herself silently for not giving it a more through once-over before they started. Not like she didn't have the time. But that was the way of things sometimes. Saraiya had a habit of jumping into things headfirst without looking forward beforehand. Maybe that's why she left that damned meeting with a few more 'familial connections'. Wouldn't say more about that, even if she could. Bad for biz, really.

The swoop started to shake a bit, and she thought the damn thing was about to pretty much give up the ghost before she even hit the first corner. She let back on the throttle, and seemingly, the bike started to get a little faster. There was definitely something up with the coaxium injectors, had to be. She leaned down, and while keeping one eye on the track, she tried to fiddle with the manual ratio screws on the side of the engine.

"Force willing, please let this be the fix!" she shouted at the bike. Here's hoping!

Now she could hear and feel the engine working the way it should. Sure, Dani had an issue getting off the start, but as much as she wanted to be a good racer, her skill was much more when it came to vessels that weren't always traditional fuel powered. Put her in something with a solar cell, or even better, wind powered? And she was sure to shine a bit better. Still, this rented Mynock was moving quick.

Was going to take her a few to catch up but she was going to make it work.

Gripping the controls tighter, the blonde took the swoop through the next few turns, knowing she had to keep up. She didn't have the time to even dive into anything that would be considered cheating, but she needed to keep moving. Feathering the throttle through the turns, she kept an eye out for the Anzellan… Candu Tabuu? Yeah… He was nearby. The next racer up ahead. She didn't know who it was.

Just that it was… not exactly someone she was looking forward to meeting.

But she'd pass him all the same.

Hilal raised her middle finger at the Anzellan bastard who tried to shoot at her. "Hard to shoot going a hundred miles an hour!" She shouted sticking her tongue out.

Despite being relieved that her Swoop Bike was intact, Hilal just realized that she was starting to lag behind. "Oh frack me!" Hilal muttered seeing other racers close the distance behind her. She was so worried about losing her Swoop Bike, that she didn't bother to maintain her speed.

"Come on!" Hilal yelled pressing on the accelerator on the handlebar of her bike. "Stay focused Hilal!"

The yellow clad racer got off to a quick start, but Ta’ena was finally starting to get the feel for her swoop. With her lekku trailing behind in the wind Ta’ena glided past the Mandalorian on what should have been a faster bike. The purple skinned Twi’lek was surprised that none of the competitors started shooting right off the bat. Especially the contingent that chose the slow bulky Rancor swoop as their bike. That changed shortly though with the Anzellan taking a shot at the Mandalorian. Perhaps that slowed the young racer’s instincts enough to allow Ta’ena the pass. But the twi’lek biker wasn’t one to ask questions when she took the lead. That was time to put the pedal to the metal and be on high alert. The front runner was always the target.

The first shot missed and that gave Ta’ena the confidence to continue on with her head down for the moment. There was also some communication between the former leading Mando and the blue haired racer. “You guys racing or planning a date?” Ta’ena chuckled at the two. She wasn’t sure what their connection was, but her closest competitor was being shot at repeatedly and if she was thinking about her girlfriend too that would only be a benefit Ta’ena. Of course should things start to get nasty for her she did have her own blaster handy to parse out her own damage to those on her ass.

RACE NARRATION

"Now they've reached the turns!"

"That Anzellan's still shootin'!"

"Problem is he's just no good at it."

"Also looks like an update from the organizers. Looks like we're rollin' with two laps, not the three we thought!"

"Oops. Well. Let's get back to the action..."

Narration notes:
  • 72 hour round timer begins
  • Candu misses his attack on Hilal - again!
  • Everyone posted, no race rounds missed!

Candu couldn't believe his little beady eyes, the Mandalorian kept dodging his blaster shots!

Not only that, but Candu was being left behind, he was one of the last in the pack... so with a shout of muttering obscenities, the little Anzellan gunned both the throttle and the trigger again--

"Candu hit you eventually, yeahyeah!"

--and as he motored down the raceway, Candu wondered if others were even planning to use their blasters. And if he didn't hit the Mando this time, well, Candu would probably try throwing the blaster at her...

If you drive fast enough it begins to blur together. The landscape, yes, but also the noise. The roar of engines, the distant sound of blaster fire. Thoughts and feelings melt away, replaced by instinct.

Artas Tel Alam was more at home in this state than any other. It reminded him of battle. Pure and simple. The trappings of civilization melted away here. The announcers could squawk as they pleased, this was just a more elaborate bloodsport.

Perhaps, fates willing, he could oblige them.

There they went, the blonde felt infinitely better being her now that she seemed to have caught up to the pack. And that had its own problem. Ducking her head as a blaster bolt came from… somewhere, she looked around and furrowed her brow. This was why she got out of the military service. For Dani, racing was merely showing a set of skills that not everyone had, and putting a machine that you worked on, or oversaw to the test.

"Blast it!" She cussed within her flight helmet. She had no time to waste on getting a weapon out, but should it come down to it, well, she'd have to do some pretty fancy flying.

This Mynock though? Good swoop for that. Light to a fault but fast. Grabbing the accelerator, while the blasters from Candu seemed to be toned down. It was time to get into the bubble between this pack and the next.

As her swoopbike seemed to gather a little bit of speed, she honestly could not fathom why the thing kept trying to flood the inter-mix chamber every time she cranked back on the throttle. This was what she did, what she lived for, that feeling of absolute freedom and adrenaline pumping speed. She had to do better than this, not for any other reason than she knew she could. Gripping the handlebars tight once more, she focused on the track intently, seeing that first chicane coming up fast. "All right, Saraiya. Time to ride it like you stole it." she muttered as she lowered her head down and settled her body closer to the metal over-pinnings of the swoop.

Cranking back on the throttle, the bike lurched forward hard, and with renewed vigor, she really did take off like a mynock-outta-mustafar this time, blazing into the first turn of the chicane. She leaned hard to the right, kicking the swoop and dusting the track with her knee as she did. Then, she forced the bike over and to the left, sliding through the second corner. As the track began to straighten out again just a bit, she rocketed toward the two swoops in front of her, gaining lost time in spades.
"That'a girl, let's goooooo!"

“You guys racing or planning a date?”

"Don't hate us cos you ain't us!" Hex cackled back into the comm at the twi-lek who was chasing down her friend.

'...If only you had Confetti, that'd show her!...'
"Ha! Good job they didn't let me carry her!" Hex laughed while replying to the voices still on the open comm.

She continued messing the the dials on her swoop and leaned down towards the compressor, it was cold, that wasn't good, it should be blistering hot. She gave it a good kick and there was a jet of fuel steam before it started shaking, hopefully coming back to life. Hex needed a new one, she might order one online before she forgot, she had seen a holo advert for some mechanic near her and she had the cash for a proper service on her hand made machine.

She sent a quick text message
Hey babe!

Not a customer yet but I need a high turnover pre-burn compressor to fit a Corellian turbofan engine. Can you order me one for fitting ASAP?

Hex!

Saraiya Darkstar Saraiya Darkstar , if she was paying attention would see a business alert pop up from a new prospective customer with a very distinctive blue haired holo-avatar.

She nearly dropped her pad as the kick she had given her engine had its desired effect and a burst of partially burned fuel caused a gout of flame out of the back of her engine and it roared into life. This was much better. She prepared to take the corner hard and leaned as her heavily accelerating Swoop rose up the front of the embankment.

"Oh, come on you little chit!" Hilal yelled as the Anzellan continued to fire upon her. She continued to swerve her bike trying to dodge the blaster bolts that were firing wildly at her.

"You're just mad because I'm better than you!" Hilal retorted realizing that she was losing steam fast. "Frack!" Hilal once again lacked focus, she really needed to concentrate otherwise she'll lose the lead if she hasn't already.

Ta’ena gave a growl to herself as the yellow clad Mandalorian managed to pass her as they approached the turns. With Hilal Vizsla Hilal Vizsla being on the smaller swoop Ta’ena had hoped to increase her lead in the straightaway assuming that the curves would give those who chose smaller bikes the advantage. Not only has she lost the lead to the Mando, but the pink haired racer closed the distance as well. Maybe distractions weren’t the best tactic. Ta’ena either needed to start firing herself and try to take out the competition, or she needed to just focus on pushing her pace.

The blue-haired girl had shouted back at Ta’ena. “No hate girlie,” Ta’ena responded back with a chuckle. “Just was going to ask if you knew a good restaurant in the area for my victory dinner,” Ta’ena raised a fist into the air and then waved at Hex Hex . She could feel the blaster at her hip calling to her, but she decided to keep her focus on racing at least until they were through the turns. If she started falling behind she might have to take advantage of her heftier swoop.

Torson did not like the way in which things were going on as of now. As the race progressed, he noticed how he was lagging far behind already in last place, all thanks to that stupid engine of his. If he was going to have any chance at catching up, he thought, he would have to start playing dirty. As such he quickly took out a rail pistol from his holster and took aim at Saraiya Darkstar's swoop bike. Fortunately for him, many of his opponents had chosen the Mynock-type Swoop Bikes which would make it easier for him to get rid of the competition.

As such once he was certain he had a good shot at Darkstar's Mynock swoop bike, Torson pulled the trigger three times aiming to slow her down which would hopefully allow him to bypass her and many others who were infront of him. If he was going to win this, then he would have to make sure that by the time he began his second lap that he would at least be in the top 3 or four contestants. Hopefully the odds would be in his favor today as he could not afford to fail, not again.

The race was going… well, not as she preferred. With the late start and everything, she was hopeful now though. She wasn't in the back of the pack, just… you know, middle-back. What she knew was that her Mynock had a boost it could give her, but for now? She was holding back on that. She'd use it during the second lap. Speeding through the grasslands, she kept an eye out for the other racers. Those shots kept coming from the little one, but kept missing their intended target, and she was barely avoiding them herself.

Tightening her grip, she looked up to the sky and nodded. It wasn't really a prayer per se, just a reconnection with the world around her. Feeling the wind against her race suit, she was focusing her own mind on her body on her controls… She was going to catch up.

Throttle down.

Ta’ena pumped her fist in victory as she exited the first set of curves not only keeping pace but actually catching and passing the Mandalorian. The pink-haired racer was keeping pace however and she passed the Mando as well. Was this racer the true threat? Ta’ena wondered to herself as she returned both hands to the handlebars and considered her next action. She had thought she would put her blaster into action while she was on the straightaway, but at that time she assumed the Mando would be able to maintain her lead. Should she risk firing over her shoulder as she approached the next set of curves? And if so who would be the target? Did the distraction of being shot at finally catch up to the Mandalorian? Or was there another reason for her momentary faltering? Was the pink-haired girl the better target?

In the end Ta’ena couldn’t make up her mind, so she gave one quick look back to gauge the progress of her opponents and then turned her head, leaned forward and floored the accelerator for as long as she dared heading into the next set of curves. Confident leaders didn’t need to use blasters to maintain their lead. Ta’ena’s blaster would stay put for as long as it was possible. Her racing skills would be foremost on display for now.

Hex slid through the curve, kicking up a ton of dust and laughing as a slightly over ambitious cameraman lept into a bush to avoid her, she managed to keep up her speed and carry on rapidly out of the bend. The fact she did not care whether she hit the chap photographer probably helped.

Straightening up, she was quite glad that her engine seemed to be purring along for now, but was waiting for the next burnout or next other problem. She was close to Hilal Vizsla Hilal Vizsla now and she flipped a salute to her friend before gunning the engine again. <<My turn to over take! I hope you are ready for that c3lebration I have planned if I win>> she laughed into the comm as her speed carried her forwards.
