Private Spirited Away

Feng was nervous, excited, apprehensive and as always just generally anxious. She was finally on a mission with Connel! The man was a legend. Both in his own right and in his legacy. Not that Feng believed that just because you were a part of an impressive family, it automatically meant you were going to be impressive yourself.

Force knows Feng had no legacy to speak of. Except perhaps Master Wu which was legacy enough to her mind. It may not be among the most impressive warriors in the galaxy, but it was an honest way of the Jedi to grow from.

The only problem was Feng was fairly certain she had outgrown it. Master Wu had done his best, but their paths were just too different. Feng had been eager to explore other paths that the Jedi Order offered. Whether it be Shadow training, missions with Aiden Porte Aiden Porte or sparring with @Balun Dashiel. Feng was exploring her options, getting the confidence needed as she got closer to her trials.

Feng had only just recently come to the conclusion that she didn't have to have her entire life figured out by the time of her trials. She could become a knight and see where life's journeys took her. So far she had been tempted by the Jedi Temple Guard as one of those options. She was also fairly certain that she needed her own ship. Hopefully something with a bit of room and harmony to it. So when she travelled saw the galaxy, helped those she could, her ship could be her home.

Right now though they were on a mission Order intelligence suggested there had been a number of missing persons recently from the planet Hosnian Prime. Just half a dozen. All Near-Humans. Feng supposed the culprits thought that if they picked their targets piece meal they could get away with it. The only reason the Jedi Orders Intelligence had picked up on the discrepancy is one of the missing's family members had known a Jedi. That Jedi had been sent and gone missing himself.

After that the planet had upped their security protocols for all traffic going in and out of the planet. So it was a reasonable bet that the wretches who were doing this were still on planet. That wouldn't last forever. Security protocols meant delays, it meant much needed supplies, medicine, fuel, food, trade was held up at ports causing irate commuters. Which led to powerful pressure on the local powers to end the heightened security. If the people weren't found soon the planets governance would simply say they must have gone off world already before the lock down began. All they had to do was wait.

It was a race. Not the kind Feng enjoyed. This one had lives on the line. She studied the mission briefing once again. All near humans, all in the prime of their life, all in decent shape, several had been athletes of some sort or another. Whoever was hunting them he was picking his targets carefully. Maybe he was just a slaver? Selling a premium for exotic looking near humans to some sleemo crime lord.

Feng shook her head in a frown. It felt wrong. She was missing something. Feng growled in frustration, got up to join Connel in the cockpit. They were on approach to Hosnian Prime now. Feng bit her lip searching for something to say, she could be a bit of a chatter box.

"Uhm, should I have offered to take a spell at the helm? I didn't want to presume you liked others handling your ship." Feng asked awkwardly shyly.

It was not one of his ships(The Null Vector, or the Jedi Defender) that they were in, but an Osprey Undercover mission ship a ship of the line of products offered by a company whose shares he had inherited from his father. It was “on loan” officially, but Thexann Pehnataur Thexann Pehnataur told him once “This is all pretty much your’s anyway”. Strange how he never felt that way, or really cared. Pehnataur, Alexandra Angellus, they were great people and the company his father, and distant cousin Liram Angellus (Alexandra’s late husband) had started was in wonderful hands.

Anyway like his father, “sleep” and Connel didn’t always get along, so he was up. Of course he was, also with this being an official “mission” he was asked to go on, he studied the dossier not long into the flight. It was one that did not need two Jedi really, but apparently he was being asked to evaluate whether Padawan Huang was ready to be Knighted or not. This took time away from his own Padawan, but Cartri was “CLOSE” in his own right and on an assignment anyway so there’s that.

When she approached, he shrugged. I only just walked back in here myself. Once we were to hyperspace, it was on auto-pilot. When the worst that will happen to you is that someone will say “no”, never be afraid to follow your gut. In fact never be afraid at all. It’s often our choices that make us who we are and get us through the day.

Feng frowned she agreed with the first part logically even if she didn't always have the confidence to follow through on it, but the second part was confusing to her. She didn't want to correct a master, but given he'd just advised her to speak up if she had a question she tried to follow his instruction.

"Master Wu gives two conflicting pieces of advice when it comes to fear. The first is that you should accept fear, it is just an emotion designed to protect you, fear itself won't hurt you unless you let it guide your actions. Then he'd say true courage isn't the absence of fear it is overcoming fear. It's confusing which should I do? Accept fear or over come it?" Feng asked with a frustrated sigh.

"Sometimes I think Master Wu likes to be vague just to frustrate me" Feng muttered feeling a flash of guilt. "I know that Master Wu would never deliberately mislead me, he just… learns differently then I do."

"Now you're saying 'never be afraid at all'. Forgive me master but that seems… cold. I agree fear should not rule you, but I prefer when I can to acknowledge it, breathe deeply and choose another path than what it's offering me."

"It's not fear in battle that get's to me, at least not fear of the enemy, just fear of myself… my passions, emotions, peaks are strong and vibrant. Sith depend on their emotions to fuel their power. That's what I'm truly afraid of. Falling to the darkside."

"It… seems to me being cold to my emotions isn't the answer, that seems a poor way to live to me and just as treacherous a path."

Feng looked up from where she'd been fidgeting with her hands. She glanced at Connel.

"You also said to speak up" Feng pointed out with a soft shy smile.

Sigh. She was overthinking things, just like her file said. Perhaps he was not being clear in his phrasing, which would not be the first time. That being said, she still needed to believe in herself as that was proving to be an issue. ”Yes”.

He reset the auto-pilot and turned to face her. He needed to reassure her that her abilities were not in question, only her confidence. He explained that self-doubt could hinder progress, and with proper focus, she could excel. She nodded slowly, seeming to absorb his words, though her uncertainty lingered. ”Never be afraid to…” is a clarifier for a turn of phrase. You’re going to be afraid from time to time. It happens to me, it happens to everyone. He then tapped his chest poignantly.

That was one of the primary issues of the “Old” Jedi Order. They were afraid simply to be afraid. It was a self-defeating prophecy. We all know what happened there, well, those of us who studied. You’re not wrong to have issue with emotions. The thing is if you let that define you, it will control you. So “Yes”, don’t be afraid of having emotions. “Yes” be ready and work to overcome them.

Turning back to the controls as they were on approach. If you need to say something, say it. Yes, there is a time and a place for everything, but there is also the problem of holding things in. If you are in a house, and know that a Nexu is in the backyard, and someone is heading to the backdoor would you tell them or keep it in?

Feng frowned as she considered Connels words. She agreed with them… at least she thought she did. Feng had studied the Jedi of old, Mace Windu, Qui Gonn Jinn, Yoda they were great Jedi of their time, but they had ignored or become complacent with several problems of their order and time.

They had become insular and out of touch with the rest of the galaxy for started, an obscure almost etherial order living above the rest in their temple palace. Their blind devotion to their republic and it's flaws had led to the confederacy crisis, led by none other than one of their former own who had been allured by the alternative power of the dark side as a solution. Finally to Feng's mind it had made them… cold, not quite uncaring but framing there every action and emotion in the light of duty. They had forgotten how to live.

Feng was a person full of life… and love, she didn't see what was so wrong with that. She liked adventure, she liked thrills, she liked experiencing the full length and breadth of the sentient experience.

"I'm… glad I have emotions master. I just don't know if fighting them is the answer" Feng said thoughtfully/

She also liked meeting new people and getting to know them, allowing them to get to know her. It was a reciprocal exchange not a one side interrogation. Speaking of which…

"So tell me about yourself?" Feng asked casually, tucking her feet and perking up brightly.

"I'm an open book, but you're something of a mystery. We don't have to talk about your past if you don't want to" Feng rushed to reassure him, she got the sense that Connels past was a dark affair he'd rather not expose himself to a stranger about. "Just… your hobbies and interests. I know! You like dogs right?"

Sigh. He really needed to work on his small talk. Working to overcome them doesn’t mean fighting them, but not letting them define you.

Ugh, she wanted him to talk about himself. Nothing wrong with her asking, he was not at issue with it. Just “himself” was not a subject he was always open to discussing. He found it difficult to open up, as vulnerability felt unnatural to him. Yet, he understood that growth often required stepping out of comfort zones. Perhaps sharing a little more could help bridge the gap, even if it felt awkward or forced at first.

Getting personal are we? He forced out a smirk then wave off any concern or weariness this may bring her.

Not much to tell. I was born to a Jedi who fought in the Clone Wars and survived the Purge to become a part of the New Jedi Order of old and a Sith Lord who gave it all up because of him. I had a pretty normal childhood then once I was Knighted, I realized the shadow I lived in.

He shrugged. I was cut to pieces on Vendaxa and put back together. Gained serious social anxiety which is part of the reason for my best friend… have distinct multiple personality disorder… I can control which personality is in control… everything else it work. Yeah, he said too much and knew it. This was not some kind of harsh lesson for the Padawan, just might as well tell her since she asked.

Feng relaxed as Connel clarified his perspective of what he was saying. She guessed she could agree with that, kind of, she still didn't think emotions were something that needed to be overcome necessarily, though she could agree with the part of not letting them define you. Ever since she had been assigned to protection detail of Ayumi, Feng had been slowly taking more of an interest in politics. The best advice she had received after weeks of fretting over issues was, find a candidate or party that gets you closest to where you need to go. You're never going to find a perfect one that delivers you to the exact address you want.

Feng had decided that advice applied to other areas in life, in this case masters. Master Wu got her as far as he could take her. Aiden Porte Aiden Porte had taught her the importance of depending on her own judgement on a mission. Connel it seemed had some useful insights despite his taciturn reputation.

Though it sounded like he had his own struggles with mental health. Feng had enough trouble with her own voice inside her head, she couldn't imagine what it must be like to have multiple voices inside your mind at all times. Even were you to have some amount of control it must be exhausting.

"That must be really difficult to manage." Feng acknowledged careful to maintain the difference between sympathy and pity. "I think it shows inner strength to be as dedicated a Jedi as you under any circumstances. I am glad to be under the command of someone who has inner strength as well as outer power."

Feng decided she'd been enough of a chatter box for one trip, and stayed silent as they made their approach. Docking control contacted them, they followed procedure to be guided to a landing pad outside the central headquarters of there planetary federal law enforcement building.

It was a big building with the sigil of Hosnian Prime Police a styalised star on the front of the building. It was designed to be noticeable, ostentatious, asserting power. Reassurance for the law abiding, fear for the criminal underbelly.

They were greeted by a bootlicking, official who stammered while he introduced himself to them as their liaison pledging to guide them around the city.

There was a time Feng would have stepped back and let Connel take charge, but she'd learned valuable lessons under Aiden about being assertive on a mission. To make the call and move forward. Trusting Connel to speak up should he have any objections.

"Just take us to the task force room" Feng instructed calmly.

He didn’t mind the talk, it passed the time and frankly it was better than awkward silence. He found the conversation somewhat engaging, even if it wasn't particularly deep. It helped create a sense of normalcy in an otherwise tense or unfamiliar situation. The exchange also allowed him to gauge the other person's thoughts and attitudes without directly probing too much.

Feng was clearly wait for him to take charge. Time to throw a wrench..

I’m not commanding anyone. This is your mission, I’m just here to help where I can. She needed to get confidence, but Padawan Feng would be fine. This was Connel’s chance to show he doesn’t have to run things, and Feng’s chance to show, even unwittingly, that she was ready to be Knighted. This approach would allow Feng to step up and take initiative, proving her capability while Connel observed and supported from the sidelines. It was a subtle way to mentor without overtly leading, fostering growth and trust in her abilities while maintaining a collaborative dynamic.

The bootlicker actually made Connel glad he had put his mask on.. You heard her, and stay out of the room.

Feng nodded to the commander of the Task Force a Nikto, Kajain'sa'Nikto. She could tell he was pleased with the way they'd treated the bootlicker, by the way his mouth flaps had flattened. She also sensed some momentary uncertainty about which one of them to address. Feng decided to resolve that dilemma for him.

"Feng Huang of the Jedi Order, this is my partner Connel Vanagor. Show us what you've got so far."

"Tu-Aph Kep" The Nikto introduced himself "And it's not much."

Tu-Aph led them to a conference room where upon entering the entire task force five members of various species, Ithorian, Houk, Zabrak, Nautolan, Ubese in their best dress uniforms saluted smartly standing at attention. Feng sighed. Pomp and circumstances wasn't warranted right now, in fact it was detrimental to a smooth working relationship not to mention efficiency.

Feng nonetheless bowed.

"If I may address the troops?" Feng asked politely.

"It's your task force now" Tu-Aph said with only the barest traces of bitterness.

Feng grimaced and nodded, letting a mountain go unsaid between them. She didn't want to have to fight her only real liaison with local law enforcement on top of everything else.

"Right, let's get something straight. We're here to help, not show off. Tomorrow I want you in your regular office uniforms, no sparkle and shine. You can forget the needless formality as well, we're not here to lord it over you with our mysterious ways. If you insist on formality because it makes you more comfortable, I'm Jedi Feng. I'll let my partner introduce himself in a moment."

"For now people are missing, probably kidnapped, probably in circumstances that are less than ideal. We have enough to be going on with don't you think?"
Feng asked the last rhetorically. The assembled officers looked perplexed.

"Now Commander Tu-Aph give me a rundown" Feng instructed.

"All the abductees are Near-Humans. Echani, Zeltron, Chiss, Kiffar, Rattataki and Theelin. At first we thought it might be purists targeting Near-Humans but there's been no statements either at the scene or in the press claiming credit for the attack. Then we thought maybe slavers, all the abductees have been young athletes, leading as to speculate that they could be trophies for some sleemo- that is some crime lord or perhaps entry into a spectator blood sport of some sort, but if it's the later he, she or they haven't been targeting warriors. It could just be for dance slaves with an extra bit of variety but…"

"But you don't think so, why?" Feng asked

Tu-Aph made a frustrated sound.

"Gut instinct. They mean a bit more to a Jedi then they do to a review board" Feng assured him with a smile.

"The victims. The targeting is too specific. All Near-Humans all in ideal shape. Someone wants specimens, whether it's for a trophy case or to take apart and study I couldn't tell you, but they're all close to Human but not distant enough related to be called alien."

Feng nodded cautiously.

"I agree"

Tu-Aph looked surprised and relieved.

"Unfortunately while it might be too early to speculate on motives for the attacks we're on a clock before the lockdown is rescinded and the abductees are gone forever. It would be easy to dismiss the abduction of Near-Humans as simply being aesthetic, but the specificity suggests a fascination with Near Humans specifically. If they wanted pretty and fit there a plenty of humans who fit the bill. Harder to trace easy to take."

"Do you have any insights you would like to add Jedi Vanagor?"
Feng asked Connel, keeping it formal for the paramilitary types in the room.

Something surprising was just how much she took to this, and that is meant as nothing but a compliment. She was decisive, strong and knowledgeable, not to mention self confident. That would serve her well in the future. He just wished he had that when he was in her shoes, nothing against Father, Caltin taught him so much, the anxiety was on him. When she offered he introduce himself, he simply said:

Vanagor. Only the last name, all that was needed. There were some who recognized the gear already, but the eyes showed those who knew the name still. His introduction was brief yet carried weight, a quiet confidence in his demeanor. Those who knew the name understood the legacy it held, while others simply noted the air of authority he exuded. For now, that was enough—his reputation and presence spoke louder than any elaborate introduction could. He also did not want to take away from Feng’s authority.

Walking in and listening to the information, all of it pointed to something of an old story his father used to tell. A story about “The Clone Wars,” an old name really for a war considering it was not about clones, they were just involved. The point is, everything that was being told pointed directly to this point. It was another good reason to have the mask on, he wished he was wrong. They’re not trying to use them, but their traits, their capabilities. Their very DNA, and put it into a human.

His voice was stoic, even, measured, strong… hiding the fact that he wished he was wrong.

Feng was aware that it would be surprising her having so much anxiety one moment, and pure confidence the next. The truth was Feng was never more comfortable than when she was on a mission. Once there was lives on the line Feng was pure focus, whatever she needed to do to save lives. That included making the effort to accept her anxiety and not fight it. It didn't magically erase the anxiety, but it made it manageable for a time.

Frowning as she considered Connels insight, she reflected on it for a few moments… that felt… correct. It was too horrible a situation for her to ever consider it right, accurate perhaps, but never right.

Feng nodded slowly.

"That fits." Feng acknowledged.

"Commander Tu-Aph, I want you to send me everything you have." Feng said typing in her holopad address after getting out her comms device.

"Aye sir" He replied in his deep Nikto voice.

"Jedi Vanagor and I will go to the latest crime scene try to pick up the trail. How recent was it?" Feng asked.

"Last night" The Nikto informed them.

"Will you need back up?" Tu-Aph asked in the echoing silence that followed.

"It would be best for us to concentrate without a press of unfamiliar presence." Feng said with an apologetic grimace.

Feng gestured for Vanagor to make there way to the garage where they commandeered a police speeder and made their way to the club district. It was quiet during the daytime, with the usual refuse of trash, empty cans, bottles and other substances that wasn't there business to investigate today.

Feng glanced around the back alley, that was the last known location of a Zeltron club girl. The only way they had known she had been taken and not just on a wild binge sleeping it off at some regrettable rendezvous was there had been a witness, a local bouncer. The intel said he lived at the club upstairs.

"Where should we begin? Did you want to see if we could pick up something with Force Sense or should we talk to the bouncer?"

Connel let her do her thing, watching her work with a mix of admiration and evaluation. When she finished, he gave a slow, approving nod then told her through the Force.

~One piece of advice. You’re doing great, but don’t forget to breathe. Also, you could stand to use a few more “could you”s and less “I want you to”s… We have the skills, and they did call us, but if you can make them feel like equals and less like subordinates or assistants they’ll be that much more eager to work with you. ~

What she did not see is while she was focused on her work, Connel was on his own datapad and trading contact information with Tu-Aph. Not to undermine Feng, but to ensure they had a direct line to the group should they need backup after all.

When they took the speeder and no one else was coming, he was glad to have sent contact information. There was no question that they would be okay, but “hope for the best, prepare for the worst. Before long they were arriving and she asked him where to start. Talk to the Bouncer. Be ready to offer a bribe if necessary.

.

Feng had thought she had been doing well. She hadn't intended to be imperious with her instructions, she just thought having a commanding presence would be important to establishing… well a command. It hadn't even been an intentional decision she had just been going where her instincts took her. Upon reflection she realised Connel was right.

Here she was coming in, giving orders left and right as if she were a long established superior officer. She herself had often found any such superior officer, at best bores and tedious at worst dangerous.

~Sorry!~ Feng sent back a little crushed and crestfallen when she had thought she had been doing so well.

Feng was stewing over her mistake the entire speeder ride to the club district. Feng's first real liaison with a local law enforcement and she'd already stumbled diplomatically. Feng sighed and with a will made the conscious effort not to engage with her self criticism. Now was not the time, she might have to have a worry time later, but for now she had to focus on the mission.

Feng nodded.

"Right. Bouncer first."

Feng went up to the door and knocked politely. No answer. She knocked more insistently. Feng frowned.

"Keep an eye out… er please?" Feng added the last mindful of her recent mistake.

Feng got out her slicing kit for the door. She was a little rusty from her days in the slums working on slicing with her brother, but she'd kept her skills sharp over the years toying with various security systems.

"Almost.. got it!" Feng had been sticking her tongue out as she concentrated, she beamed grinning as the door slid open with a hiss. She stepped inside. Blaster fire came from upstairs.

Feng ducked back outside in a very poised maneuver and not at all a desperate scramble. Igniting her lightsaber.

"Stay back you're not taking me too!" The voice firing the blaster yelled in shaky fear.

"Jedi! Hold your fire!" Feng called out or tried to over the panic fire.

Feng huffed an aggravated breath.

"We need him alive to talk to him. Any suggestions?" Feng asked Connel

~No need to apologize. You had done nothing wrong.~

Great, she was stewing over it. It was going to be a while before she could grow past the guilt she felt if she was still stuck on it. This was going to be a long trip. It felt like that right up to the point that they had pulled up to their destination. Kid, show me a Jedi who doesn’t make mistakes and I will show you a liar. You didn’t do anything wrong, just offering you a chance to further improve.

When she asked for him to look out, he nodded. Gotcha covered.

The blaster fire was crazy and erratic, it suggested someone who was not in full control of their faculties, nor any experience with a blaster. The call to protect themselves was understandable. He could jump in and end this quickly, but the look of fear in the room, even if empty, was culpable. You're not in a bad spot, kid, Can you sense the fellow’s mind? The fear is off the charts. He is scared, not malicious. You can talk him down, just trust your instincts. You got this.

He would not ask her to do anything she was not capable of, nor what he was about to do. Slowly, subtly in a way she would not be able to feel, Connel reached into the sentient’s mind and slowly began to calm him down by altering his environment. What he would see would be a more calm setting, safety becoming the norm in the room, he would see nothing but a feeling of security.

.

Feng nodded relieved at Connel's reassurance. Right she didn't think she was perfect or ever would be. The best masters never did. They were constantly reminding her that it was always possible to learn something new, a new way to apply that learning into a new skill. She had been doing well, she just found something she could improve on, that was something to be encouraged not be dismal about. Feng made a mental note to be aware of ways she could improve in a positive light.

Concentrating Feng reached out to the fellows mind. Connel was right he wast terrified. That terror was causing him to react to any perceived threat he found.

Such as someone break and entering his home for instance?

Yeah ok someone slices into your locked home the day after you witness a kidnapping, there would be reasons to be nervous. Hells Feng was pretty sure shooting an intruder under those circumstances would be perfectly legal on most planets.

Feng sighed, filled with sympathy. She reached out to the fellow mind and sent soothing thoughts. Not an easy task given her own thoughts weren't always soothing nonetheless she sent the soothing thought of a guided meditation she used from the holonet.

It paused him long enough for Feng to get a word in.

"We're Jedi. We apologise for our method of intruding, we needed to talk to you about what you saw. We're here to help." Feng informed him calmly.

"Oh Jedi. Thank the Force" The man stepped out of the shadows on shaky legs, he was Weequay.

Feng breathed a small sigh of relief.

"Look what's your name? Just tell us what you saw. Please." Feng requested.

"Loral Luqz. Didn't see much I was kicking out two university society boys who were getting handsy with the waitresses. I threw them out back here, and I heard a scream. Next thing I saw was two humans dragging a Zeltron lady kicking and screaming into a speeder. I tried to chase after them." The Weequay said looking down and away as if he were ashamed.

"Can you describe the men?" Feng asked.

"Human. In hoodies it was dark sorry." Loral said shaking his head.

"The speeder?" Feng asked.

"I think it was green?" Loral sounded like he was guessing.

Feng sighed.

"I don't suppose there are security cameras covering the spot she got taken?" Feng asked without much hope.

Loral shook his head regretfully.

"Thank you for your help. Is there anything else you'd like to ask?" Feng directed the last at Connel.

Connel used the time to pay attention to the surroundings as well as the Weequay himself. He was more than just a bouncer, but he was clearly traumatized, there was no way to hide what had happened to him. When Feng asked him if he had any questions, Connel nodded.

You’re ex-military. Aren’t you? Not judging, just the way you carry yourself, even in a situation like this. Something bad might have happened if a guy like this was traumatized. Either what had happened triggered him or it was just that bad.

My other question is about the girl. Do you know anything about her? Her name, who she was associating with>

Once Connel had mentioned it, Feng was surprised she hadn't picked up on it herself. Of course the bouncer was ex military, it was written all over him. From his body language, his quick reactions, the way he had answered questions as if answering to a superior. Despite all of Feng's experience on battlefields and there aftermath Feng had never really suited the military mindset necessary for the fast forging bonds of brotherhood. It didn't surprise Feng that Connel recognised one and she hadn't. Feng made a mental note to be more aware of a witnesses potential background, but she was also aware this was one of the reasons it was good to work in teams. Your teammates picked up on things you missed.

"75th Battalion, 5th Company, 3rd Squad" Loral confirmed with a stiff military nod.

"Her name was Vanadriel. She usually came here after gym to blow off some steam. Final Fitness. They have security cameras if you want to verify her movements. It's just up the road about three blocks over." Loral said a little sadly. "She was nice, livened up the place without it getting too rowdy, kept it fun but not dangerous. We could normally count it an easy couple hours when she was around."

"Thank you, and thank you for your service" Feng said kindly.

Loral shook his head sadly.

"I should've done more. Time was I'd have saved her." Loral said sadly.

"You may have by telling us what you know." Feng pointed out.

Loral gave her a small grimace, that spoke volumes. Feng smiled reassuringly back unwavered.

"Anything else I might have missed?" Feng asked Connel.

Army… no surprise. Connel took mental notes. This was sounding like those who picked the Zeltron up were stalkers, but that was not the case. This sounded coordinated and almost planned, and if they could spook a guy like this? They were not amateurs, this was going to be a fight. This was still Feng’s mission, and Connel would not take that away from her, she needed this, but he would have to be even more prepared than normal.

Ooo-ah. True, Connel associated with “Navy”, but respect was respect, and offering a salute then a fistbump he nodded simply. When Feng asked him what he thought, Connel was quiet for a moment, then:

Let’s hit the gym.

Feng nodded.

"Thank You for your assistance Loral. You've been most helpful, your information could be invaluable to saving this one." Feng tried to assure him.

Loral just nodded half-heartedly. Knowing that the best thing to restore his spirits would be to return the girl to her family. Feng merely smiled reassuringly, then she and Connel headed to the gym.

As they walked, Feng's nature took over.

"Have you spent a lot of time with the military?"

Feng never got to here the answer as a speeder pulled up and tossed a thermal detonator out of the car. It landed right at Feng's feet. Feng reacted on instinct picked it up with the force and threw it right back inside the speeder. There was muffled curses and exclamations from inside the car as the detonator went off. Feng dropped to the floor at the explosion. The speeder crashed into another parked speeder. A second speeder pulled up a squad of troopers got out, no uniforms to speak of, but it was obvious from their mannerisms they were troopers. All human.

Feng growled getting up she ignited her lightsaber, shifted into a prepared stance. Trusting Connel to take care of himself.

When Feng threw the detonator back, Connel blocked them with a Force Shield. She may not have understood the overall destructive capability of a Thermal detonator (which was fine) but he did. The shield absorbed the explosion, protecting them from harm. Connel's quick thinking and understanding of the detonator's power prevented catastrophic damage.

… and… right on time… the next speeder pulled out. Weapons leveled on them, some seemed to know who he was, based on the looks. Huang was ready, and so, so was he. Only Connel began walking towards them, as if daring them to shoot. He was calling their bluff. He was not watching them, or their eyes, but their trigger fingers. The moment one would twitch, he would act, and sure enough…

In a flash of Force assisted speed, he threw a throwing Lightknife at the barrel of one, and pulled his Lightblaster, firing at the other. He disabled their weapons before they could fire, neutralizing the immediate threat. The attackers hesitated, unsure of their next move, as Connel's calm yet intimidating presence forced them into retreat(the ones who lost their weapons, the others remained). His mastery of both the Force and combat tactics ensured their safety in that tense moment.
