Private Spirited Away

Feng ducked behind Connel's Force Shieled as the Thermal Detonator went off. She might chide herself later for not having thought of that, but for now she filed it away for future reference, preferring to view the moment in the light of good teamwork. Further more Feng with an almost giddy light, fighting down the urge to giggle, knowing it was just the adrenaline kicking in, saw Connel neutralise the threat, quickly, efficiently and with minimal loss of life. Feng had just been getting ready to unleash her fury, and in a calm, collected manner Connel had defused the situation almost entirely.

Half the thugs had their weapons destroyed, and the ones left clearly thought better of turning theirs on a clear weapons master such as Connel. Feng decided to sieze the moment and speak into the silence Connel had bought them,

"Drop your weapons and you won't be harmed." Feng instructed clearly, keeping her lightsaber ready to flick into parrying blaster bolts in but a moment. Feng saw a few of them thinking about defying her.

Feng frowned and sighed.

"We mean you no harm, should you mean us no harm. You've seen one of us in action do you think we'd need both of us for the rest of you?" Feng asked.

The thugs eyes turned to their leader. He snarled and raised his weapon. Feng sighed deflected the blaster bolt sent her way, as she put on force speed, sliced her lightsaber through his blaster and Force Punched him in the gut, he flew into the air, crashing back down to the pavement groaning, retching.

Feng glared at the remaining thugs. They dropped their weapons and surrendered.

"Was that so hard?" Feng muttered.

She got out her comms device.

"Tu-Aph send some units down here we've got some ruffians for you to collect."

One actually shot…

Connel said something to Feng through the Force… ~Good Jedi, Bad Jedi… play along…~

Frell with this! In a burst of concentration, he pulled everyone else’s weapons out of their hands, through assistance of the Force. The blasters clattered to the floor. Then with one hand he immobilized one of them, and the leader? Well after Feng punched him, Connel immobilized him and began levitating him off the ground, his face turning red slowly.

Feel that pressure in your neck? That’s your carotid circulation being restricted. Your brain’s already compensating — elevated heart rate, shallow respiration, adrenaline spike. Very textbook. In another few seconds you’ll notice the tingling first. Fingers, lips, maybe your jaw. Then your vision starts narrowing because the occipital cortex is extremely sensitive to oxygen fluctuation. Tunnel vision. Auditory distortion follows shortly after. Right about then, your higher cortical function begins misfiring. Thought formation slows. Motor coordination degrades. You’ll try to focus and realize you can’t quite hold onto a sentence anymore. After that comes the pleasant part: transient cerebral hypoxia. Your body interprets it as exhaustion. Heavy limbs. Sudden confusion. You may even feel strangely calm as your nervous system starts conserving energy…and then your consciousness shuts off like a hospital monitor during a budget cut. If Feng was paying attention, she would notice that Connel had told the guy he was falling asleep, but in clinical terms.

Tell her what she wants to KNOW!

Feng barely restrained a smile as Connel asked her to play along. Hopefully it would look like sadism to the unsuspecting thugs. People like these often assumed the worst of others, as they weren't far off it themselves. It took a moment for Feng to catch up to what Connel was actually threatening, but her experience playing nurse to wounded on various battlefields came to play. If the price of getting some information was sending a man to sleep, well that was fine with Feng. Though she had the sense that Master Wu would have disapproved of the methods utilised to gain said information.

"Ugh! I'll talk! Don't kill me!" The leader gasped.

Feng laid a gentle restraining hand on Connel.

"My friend will leave you enough room to breathe for a little while longer, as long as you answer my questions. Please answer truthfully."

"Who hired you? Where are they?"
Feng asked calmly.

"Some Sith Scientist! Calls himself Splicer! He works out of a clinic in the south districts. Called The Sacred Heart."

"What of the others you have kidnapped on his behalf do they still live?" Feng asked.

The thug hesitated. Feng's face fell into a mask.

"Tell us or I'll walk away and leave you to the tender mercies of my friend!" Feng snarled.

"Yes! Some of them! Maybe? He said they were useless to him dead, so we had to bring them in alive."

Feng nodded.

"How many more troops does he have with him?" Feng asked.

"How should I know! He sent us out in teams, never two teams on the same shift!"

Feng grimaced but nodded.

"Anything I've forgotten?" Feng asked Connel

You are hiding something. Levitates the individual off the ground, allowing them to float.

There is screaming and assurance that nothing was hidden. Connel then drops him after choking him out (just enough to fall unconscious) and then turns around. Splicer is a womprat, but not stupid. If he is here, that Rodian will have traps in place. Walks toward the speeder. What I did... you are welcome to use, but understand that this is NOT a tactic for everyone. It takes a lot of discipline and focus.

Tu-Aph and the task force arrived to take the rest of them into custody. Feng followed Connel to the speeder, looking at him with concern.

"It seems… awfully close to a Force Choke master?" Feng asked cautiously. Not that she had objected too strenuously when these were the sleemo's kidnapping innocent people for experiments. Still she wondered if she should feel guilty about her not stepping in to protect their assailants. It seemed like the type of thing Master Wu would have done.

"This Splicer. You know him?" Feng asked, as far as she could recall the thug hadn't mentioned anything about Splicer being a Rodian. "I know you like to be taciturn, but if there's anything you know it might help to catch and stop him. It's better than going in blind."

Feng got in the speeder and put in The Sacred Heart into the gps, piloting it giving Connel enough space to answer on the way to their destination.

It wasn’t. He did not look her way. He didn’t need to. It was a combination of different skills between immobilization and oxygen control. He was never in any danger. However…

Now he did look at her in that emotionless mask. Even if I had choked him, it was important to trust. Contrary to what many tell you, there are no skills purely “Light” or “Dark”, only those that are corrupted by the user. It is our choices that make us Jedi, or Sith. Even an aura of calm can be used nefariously.

As he sat back in the speeder again, he answered her question about Splicer. Have no clue, never met the Rodian, but am judging based on the information we have collected. A teachable moment disguised as something else.

Feng frowned not sure she agreed with Connel that there were no skills or powers that were entirely light or dark.

"I have seen the amount of focused rage Force Lightning requires Master, it seems to me that in order to utilise such a skill you have to give into inner darkness yourself." Feng responded quietly softly enough that she only spoke into the silence between breaths for her to be heard.

Feng was further confused by Connels assertations that he had deduced Splicer was a Rodian through the course of their investigation. She frowned thinking back over the events so far and gave up frustration baring through her.

Master's liked to confuse their padawans for no other purpose than to confuse them in Feng's experience disguising it as a teachable moment.

"I fail to see it Master" Feng reluctantly admitted.

She sighed no further time to reflect on what she had missed, they had arrived at The Sacred Heart. Feng was frustrated and desperate to find the victims while they were still alive, it would be tempting to storm in and demand answers. She struggled to come up with an intricate plan, something nuanced and clever to get the intelligence they needed.

Ah krak it. Keep It Simple Silly.

Feng got out of the speeder approached the clinic and entered quietly, reaching out with her force senses as she did so. She felt… pain, suffering. They were in the right place and that made her angry.

You mean this? Holds up his hand and an incredible, but directed blast of Electric Judgment flew from his appendage and into a street sign, making it wobble. You proved my point.

Sitting quietly as he drove, he let her stew on that for a moment. Every one of us does have a dark side and a light side, it’s just nature. It is our choices that make us who we are. That back there? That Lightning was what Jedi call “Electric Judgment”. Same thing, different color… don’t ask me why.

As he sat back in the speeder watching Sacred Heart grow bigger and bigger. I’m not saying “do what I do”... you find what works for you and go with that. I’m saying that you have to learn to accept things as they are sometimes. Even Sith have healers… hard to believe considering their creed and beliefs but true… my mother was a Sith Lord… she told me that sit. Choose to do the right thing, Choose to follow the path of the Jedi, should you wish, and you’ll be fine.

Feng blanched and almost crashed the speeder at Connels casual use of lightning. Feng's mind grappled with the at ease manner he had wielded it, Feng had of course heard rumours of a similar ability amongst the Jedi, but she had yet to experience it first hand. There had been no swelling of darkness, no pure rage or hatred in the off the cuff use of the Force Ability. Feng was more than a little shaken to find her assertations so readily challenged. A small but loud part of her wondered if she could learn to wield such an ability.

She was still thinking on it when she barged into the clinic. The entire clinic froze, various sick or injured patients looked up in fright.

"Everybody out. Jedi business" Feng commanded sternly.

There was muffled exclamations as people hurriedly and with fear exited the building. Feng didn't like scaring sick and injured civilians, but it couldn't be helped. Seeing the receptionist try to sneak out with the others. Feng held her back, firmly.

"Staff stays." Feng demanded eyes hard.

The receptionist flinched.

"Now where are the kidnapped victims?" Feng asked. "Lie and I'll leave you with my less ethically challenged friend here."

The staff glanced at Connel who looked like a special forces operative and paled.

"The baseme-" The receptionist began before one of the nurses pulled a blaster from somewhere and shot her in the back.

The rest of the nurses and technicians were all suddenly armed as well, and began firing. Feng drew her lightsaber on instinct started practising her Shien sending the blaster bolts back to where they came from.

"I think we're in the right place." Feng quipped to Connel.

Feng was jumpy, often nervous and unsure of herself, which made Connel mentally kick himself when he made his point with Electric Judgment. He hadn’t meant to scare her, but he needed to show the reality that it was the wielder and not the ability. He wanted to emphasize that the intent and control behind an ability mattered more than its power. Feng's unease highlighted her need to trust herself and her judgment, a lesson Connel hoped would help her grow stronger and more confident in her role.

When they walked, more like barging into the clinic, Connel did not like how she was pushing sick people out so blatantly, but there was little that could be done as if he was right, they would be “human shields” otherwise and that was unacceptable. When she called for staff to stay, Connel, with a flick of his finger, shut the various doors.

Glad he was under a mask, Connel heard the call for “the kidnapped victims” and was certain that none of them had known about this only to hear “the basement” and saw that she had gotten lucky. Especially when many of them were armed and began firing. They were amateurs, horrible shots and while Feng was protecting herself with her lightsaber, Connel reached out through the Force and began removing weapons from attackers hands, sending them flying through the air and clattering at his feet. Either that, or they think we are inspectors.

Feng attempted to master her passions as they were faced with a deadly situation. There was rage, at the kidnapped victims, there was also excitement and thrill of combat, as well as the satisfaction that they would soon be able to rescue those victims from the clutches of those who would harm them. As well as the confidence that came with a successful mission. Though a part of Feng was cautioning herself that, they hadn't recovered the victims yet, she couldn't tell if this was wise caution or further anxiety.

First she had to get through the amateurs firing blasters at them. Feng dilvered three precise Sun Djem attacks disarming the weapons by slicing them in half, one of her attacks was slightly off centre, or perhaps her opponent had moved the last second, his fingers were sliced off. They fell to the floor, the man dropped to his knees screaming. Feng winced.

The rest of the half dozen supposed nurses and technicians stopped looking at the man clutching his hand screaming. Feng resisted the urge to roll her eyes. She delivered a kick to the mans jaw knocking him out cold.

"On the floor all of you." Feng commanded. Only one still had his weapon and he dropped it in fright, grasping his hand as if Feng might severe them at a moments notice.

"Tu-Aph send a team down to the Sacred Heart to secure suspects." Feng spoke into her comms.

Feng let Connel oversee the surrender of those who remained, as they hastily lay down on the floor. She approached the door to the basement, eager to get the victims. Stopped. Something felt off, it was too easy. Feng closed her eyes, and reached out with her Force senses, she carefully ran her hands over the door. It was loose, as if designed to be blown off it's hinges by a battering ram or a force push. Meaning it was a trap. Feng huffed then took a breath to control her irritation.

"Keep an eye on them please. This will only take a moment." Feng said hoping she was right. Feng got out a slicing tool kit. Feng was more comfortable with mechanical fixing, but one couldn't work mechanics without circuitry. Besides her brother had taught her how to splice a control panel before she was ten, she had kept up the skills as a nostalgic memory of him.

Feng started to hum a tune as she worked, it was a bawdy zeltron tune which was a guilty pleasure of hers. Full of EDM tracks for parties filled with substances best not looked at to closely by visiting Jedi.

"Almost there… got it" Feng sliced through the control panel. It opened.

Tu-Aph and the team arrived to secure the prisoners.

Hmmm

"Tu-Aph stay here and secure the prisoners"

"Watch the pressure plate."
Feng advised Connel as she sprung over it, walked cautiously down into the basement.

Feng was hungry, really trying to push to prove she was capable. She was, but a part of her was holding her back that would prove problematic in the future if not addressed. She had skills, she needed confidence. As Connel was ensuring the surrender of these idiots, she was already moving inside instead of securing the scene. A strong part of leadership is stepping back and letting those with you do their thing, but making sure all was okay was important too.

When he finally caught up to her and she cautioned about a pressure plate, he simply shrugged. Let’s do this.

Feng led the way down stepping cautiously, in case there were further booby traps. They came to another door, Feng reached out with her senses felt nothing, but just in case searched the corners of the door with her fingers. She bit her lip unsure, then took a breath, she could feel the suffering from behind the door. People needed help. Yes there was risk, but that's what Jedi were for to take risks in the service of others.

Feng pushed open the door holding her breath. No trip wire activated, still Feng hopped over the space where there would be another pressure plate just to be safe. She entered into a lab. The victims were in what looked like bacta tanks, ranging from Echani to Chiss to Zeltron to Rattataki and Kiffar. Feng counted them while a part of her brain screamed in horror. They had all been mutated, it looked like a mix of obelisk and yuzhaan vong spores. They had growths on their faces, spores piercing outwards from their skin. It was horrible. Feng had arrived too late, these people would be suffering for the rest of their lives.

Rage infused her, her attention tracked to the cowering Rodian by one of the lab tables.

"Wait you don't understand! They could be unlocking the secrets of immortality!"

Feng had heard enough. She grasped the Rodian with the Force and thrust him back against the wall stalking forward, she ignited her lightsaber.

Feng was hungry, really trying to push to prove she was capable. This is documented. However there is something about her where she tries far more energetically than necessary. Be it to prove herself or to make up for something or because she is too wrapped up in her own head it did not matter. Connel was able to focus on her mindset as he watched her work. Perhaps she was talking his words to heart a bit too much. When she slammed the doctor into the wall, he remained where he was, focused on the situation. Nor planning on interfering yet.

When the doctor looked at him as if expecting this some kind of “Good Jedi/Bad Jedi”... What are you looking at me for? She’s the one you ticked off.

This was by NO means an approval of her actions, especially with the lightsaber activated. However if she had to trust him, then he needed to trust her. The Shadow was fast enough to stop her though if things got out of hand.

Feng was distantly aware of Connel's presence, of him standing back and not interfering. She was distantly appreciative of that in this moment She needed to strike the fear of the Force in this Rodian sleemo.

"Is there a cure?!" Feng snarled bringing her lightsaber blade to within inches of the Rodians face.

"There… there is an antidote.. please wait… I can fix this! I administered it before the spores got too far! They were no use to me dead!" The Rodian pleaded.

"You nearly killed them over and over and you want credit for that?" Feng snarled grabbing him throwing him to the ground.

"Where is the antidote?" Feng commanded

"Here by the bacta tanks!" Splicer pointed cowering with fear.

Feng found the vials and syringes, helpfully labelled antidote. She hesitated what if Splicer was lying? She should wait get it to a lab to confirm. What if they didn't have that sort of time?

"How much time do they have left?" Feng snarled at Splicer.

He hesitated. Feng gripped him with the force and levitated him.

"The spores are almost complete! Not long! Minutes!" Splicer squeaked out.

"Karabas" Feng cursed, she dropped the Rodian.

She took a deep breath and began administering the antidote, hoping she wasn't making an egregious mistake.

When Feng had dropped Splicer, the Rodian had immediately tried to run away .

Operative word being “tried”.

A few steps into his sprint, the scientist was completely immobilized and levitated, turning around to not face Feng, but Connel. Did you forget that there were two of us?

But I…

... you thought you bought your escape, yes, I know. A moment later, he pulled his Lightblaster and began shooting aimlessly behind him, keeping his weapon leveled on the section of the facility. The wild shots were not so wild when three other Rodians came out from their hiding places with their hands in the air.

The Rodians surrendered quickly, realizing the situation was hopeless. Connel approached them calmly, his presence commanding authority. Feng was doing her thing and Connel was doing his.

Feng waited with anxious breath while she tried to tell if the antidote was working, she glanced aside at Connel securing the other prisoners, trusting him to get the job done. Feng was fairly sure Connel had fought Sith Lords, hells his mother had been one, which was a fact just catching up to Feng. Now wasn't the time to express her sympathies though. Feng was just wondering if she should try to speed up the antidotes process, she was lousy at healing, but she could at least get the blood flowing. Unfortunately it would requires laying hands on them, exposing herself to the contagion or poison however you wanted to call it.

As Connel secured the prisoners Tu-Aph and his team entered into the basement, they must have defused the pressure plate. Very resourceful for local law enforcement, Feng wondered if she could request Tu-Aph to be a liaison for her in the future, he had come incredibly useful when it came time to securing prisoners.

A growth moved on the Zeltrons face, Feng zoned in on it, waiting, hoping, praying. It moved again it looked like… yes! It was clearing up! Feng breathed a sigh of relief.

Turning to Tu-Aph

"We'll need medical evac of all the abductees, and medical quarantine while the antidote does it's work." She instructed him further.

Tu-Aph broke out of his shocked stare at the victims faces long enough to nod and start barking orders into his comms.

Feng turned to Connel with a relieved smile.

"I think they'll live. We did it." Feng sagged with relief a grateful smile on her face.

When she looked at him relieved, after settling down, he simply nodded, relieved himself he would not have to step in. She was not yet ready in his eyes to go through the trials, because she lost focus when she needed it the most. That is not to say she could not enter them and succeed, Connel liked to have everything covered. Barely, but a win is a win. You did well.

Releasing the prisoners to the authorities, he looked around and saw something. GET DOWN! An explosive, a last minute failsafe set in, just in case they were raided was set up. Connel was faster. Extending a Force Shield out as far as he could to not only minimize the damage but protect everyone around. Looking at Splicer who just winced, Connel let it go. They got what they needed.

Waiting until it was just the two of them. Tell me where you messed up. What you could have done better. Not what you think I want to hear either… The tone was calm and measured.

Feng dropped to the floor at Connel's command going on instinct. It would be foolish she knew to go over her actions later that she should have grabbed Tu-Aph or one of his men as well on the way down. One there wasn't time for anything but the most basic instinctual reaction. Two she had done as commanded and three she wasn't entirely sure she would have had time before the explosion went off, fortunately Connel's Force Shield saved them once again.

That was a technique Feng would really have to learn.

Getting up Feng gave a shaky grin, that was quickly wiped off her face at Connel's question. Feng took a deep breath. She decided now wasn't the time to give into her self doubts. This was a learning moment on how she could improve.

"The thermal detonator from the first group of thugs from the speeder, without your Force Shield we'd have been caught in the blast." Feng analysed her actions.

"My biggest mistake was almost… almost losing control, definitely losing focus when I saw the victims. I should have secured Splicer searched for other threats, then tended to the victims. I got distracted by my compassion turning into passion then anger. I let my emotions guide my actions."

Feng sighed.

"It is a flaw I'm aware of master… I'm working on it."
Feng knew it sounded like a lame excuse even to her ears.

Connel was loosening up as he was listening to her, gesturing to head back to the ship. Everything was tied off and cleaned up. Not a “tidy little bow” there would be more investigations, but that was not their concern. The biggest thing for Connel was the people were rescued, and that facility would be taken down, not to mention that Bouncer can feel better about himself. Walking up the ramp, he stopped.

He looked her up and down for a moment and walked back down the ramp.

I got lucky with that detonator. That just comes with experience unfortunately. If you’re in enough fights, you’re going to gain enough awareness. He paused, reflecting on past missions where split-second decisions saved lives. It’s not just luck, though—it’s training, instinct, and knowing how to read a situation.

He gestured toward the ship, signaling they were ready to leave. Experience sharpens your edge, but you never stop learning. You didn’t mess up there.

Walking back up the ramp and wanting her to follow into the common room. Through your “other flaw” you showed me your greatest strength. You recognized it. Show me a perfect Jedi, and I will show you a fable. Being able to use your emotions is a good thing, you handled yourself well out there. YES, you could reign it in a little better, but if you did not have anything else to learn, you would be a Grandmaster. Even they continue to learn too. I did not ask you to list your flaws in judgment. I wanted you to look back and be willing to improve. That is the mark of a Jedi.

Now let's get some breakfast. I'm buying.
