Aether Station

Amidst the systems lingering on the edge of the Outer Rim, there are many secrets to be found. Hidden treasures, vessels, even entire worlds that have all managed to remain a mystery to the galaxy at large either through sheer inaccessibility or simple loss of knowledge. Most commonly though, if one were to journey to the very edges of known space, one would come across ancient and lost stations of one form or another. The Sith Order, given their position in the Galaxy, had plenty of abandoned and archaic ruins littering the edges of their realm. Most were simply scrapped and the material recycled into new stations or ships, and yet there were some that were deemed valuable in some manner and as such became a place of research and study.

Aether Station was one such relic, evidently having once been home to some long lost Sith splinter group and therefore worthy of further investigation. It had been nearly three months since the station last transmitted to the wider Sith Order, and as such a mission was dispatched to uncover the reason for the silence.

"Aether Station is in sight, no sign of activity or response to our transmissions yet Knight Inquisitor." The crew aboard one of the three Shikkar-Class corvettes that had been assigned to this mission glanced at their masked overseer as he heard the report. "Then we have only one option. Alert the other ships and crews, ready the shuttles to board and have fighters begin patrols around the station. We'll have to investigate this matter directly it seems." Alisteri's order was quickly put into action as he made his way off of the bridge and towards the hangar of the corvette.

Soon enough the corvettes were releasing their smaller ships, all of them speeding towards the station as the corvettes adopted positions around it to guard against possible ambushes or outside intervention. The shuttles of the Inquisition entered into a deserted hangar, empty of ships and personnel as well as battle damage. The shuttles landed and soon enough their ramps and doors were lowering and opening to unleash their Inquisitors and soldiers. Alisteri stepped out onto the hangar's floor and glanced around at the seemingly pristine hangar around them. "I have a bad feeling about this..."

"Why would you, Knight Inquisitor Strosius?" It was an innocent enough question, all things considered. Sofiel stood near, arms calmly clasped behind her back as she stayed dressed in a more classical suit. Her impassive gaze turned around the area. Everything was clean, tidy. If anything, it seemed perfectly fine.

"Unless there should be something amiss, this place seems in top condition. Once we find the cause of the disappearance, it can be returned to full duty fairly quick, no?"

Lord Mirr's approach was marked, not by the sharp and metallic striking of his boots against the hangar floor but, by the choking, enrapturing darkness of his presence. While some might find solace, if not comfort and reprieve, in the aura of a truly powerful Dark Side user, there were very few amongst the heights of the Sith who could stomach his presence. Though he was but ten feet away, most would consider his presence an attack on all of their senses in indescribable ways.

"Though I am like to joke that I am the cause, that is an apt assessment, Knight-Inquisitor." the dark one intoned. "There is a most... foul intent lingering here. Something beyond mortal cruelty." he commented, the blood-red visor turning over the hangar, his own senses unimpeded by the blinding presence of his 'species'.

Mirr began closing the short gap between himself and the pair of Inquisitors. "I can not place it." he affirmed; his robes, reminiscent of a bygone Empire, settling around him in a too-perfect sort of way. Had he not arrived with them, it wouldn't take much imagination to place him as the cause of the disturbance.

"Shall we begin?"

Katanas floating over her back, Lucia Naberrie—recently bestowed with a name of her own at the behest of her master—disembarked from the shuttle, an eerily flat, unreadable mien set across her pale synthetic features. The HRD still held her reservations towards working alongside the very Sith who had invaded Malsheem only months prior (and who she had been attempting to kill), but the war was over. As her skills were needed for more than just protecting her master directly, she had been dispatched with the Inquisition to protect his interests and by extension, those of the Kainate.

Emerging out from just behind the tall, masked form of Lord Mirr Lord Mirr the diminutive gynoid directed her unflinching gaze towards Sofiel Sofiel as she spoke. While she was unable to feel the station’s signature like the Sith, her physical sensors were far more rigorous than their organic eyes and ears. Combined with the sensors in her bodysuit’s neck piece, Lucia scanned the pristine hangar with computerized precision, a process which took only nanoseconds.

“The hangar bay will tell us nothing.” Lucia stated in an eerily calm, serene tone. “If they exist, any clues that might help us will be deeper inside.” She finished.

Much like her master, Sofiel was quick to interject in Alisteri's idle musings. Not an unwelcome presence of course. "Just an inkling. Call it intuition or instinct but either way I don't like this arrangement. Something is just...off." Of course he would prefer to get a proper read on whatever it was that seemed to permeate the station itself but he found every probe outwards to result in a new headache, given the presence of another Sith that seemed to flout his strength in the Dark Side as much as possible.

"Foul is not quite the word I'd use but it fits well enough." He nodded at the aforementioned Sith's remark. "It's not going to make itself obvious, whatever it is." As expected they'd have to delve deeper into the seemingly abandoned station regardless, with hopefully nothing that would be too much trouble awaiting them.

He spared a glance at the lone Kainite on the mission and resisted the urge to make a snide remark. Peace being established and all that, much to his chagrin. "Right you are. No need to dally then." Alisteri tapped on the commlink on his helmet to connect to the frequency that the rest of the Inquisition troops were using for this mission. "Squads one through three secure and maintain position in the hangar. The rest will follow our lead and fan out to explore whatever hallways we come across. Keep in contact and alert the moment that movement is detected."

The masked man pulled his lightsaber from his belt, leaving his sword on his hip for the time being, as he walked over to the doorway that connected the hangar to the rest of station. He pressed on the console beside it and the door opened unceremoniously. "Hm. Power still fully functional then, and no credentials needed thus far either. Strange, let's head for the control center and see what else we can find."

Lucia followed after the masked High Priest, her photoreceptors continually sweeping across the area as she did. Before long, the small group reached the doorway which presumably led to the rest of the station, at which point the door slid open with nothing more than a touch on the nearby console.

A surprise, to be sure.

In spite of the lack of apparent security, Lucia didn’t let her own guard down. One of her katanas floated off of her back and into her outstretched hand. Cautiously scanning in the interior of the station past the door’s threshold, the gynoid only advanced forward once she was sure that there were no traps in the immediate vicinity.

Or at least, she hoped.
