She grew with her mother, who was cold and emotionally distant. Without the normal affection of a mother-daughter relationship, she would often rebel in hopes of getting attention. It worked, often prompting her mother to drink heavily and rant about a life 'stolen away' by motherhood. Such feelings of being unwanted forced her into the open arms of crime, an attempt to find some sense of 'family' on the street. She'd always get bailed out by her mom, until she drank herself to death when Shaye was 15. For the three years after that, she was in and out of detention centers, serving for minor crimes -- usually theft.
Since, she's made the streets of Coruscant home. Shaye makes credits when she can by crafting fake ident chits and hawking stolen goods.
And, for the record -- she never wondered about her father. She has a feeling he's out there, but she doesn't want to meet him and doubts he'd want to meet her...
