ADVANCED SYSTEMS
STRENGTHS
  • Utilizing the latest Aurora Industries weapon systems, the Shadowbind has an impressive array of firepower to unleash on enemy ships. Due to its designation as an interdiction cruiser, the Shadowbind has an outsized number of dual heavy ion cannon batteries to quickly disable ships along with several powerful tractor beam projectors.
  • With the Shadowbind designed to be an interdiction vessel, Aurora Industries entered into a licensing agreement with Roble Manufacturing to make use of their Maeni Interdiction Field Generator in their ships. The Maeni is a powerful gravity well projector, and the Shadowbind is equipped with four of the generators. The Maeni also allows a Shadowbind to counter possible "shimmering" hyperspace jump tactics.
  • As an upgrade over the older Enmesh, the Shadowbind has an expanded hangar bay able to field two squadrons of attack craft and one squadron of support craft, allowing the commanding officer the use of fighters and boarding craft to harry their targets.
  • An additional upgrade over the older Enmesh for the Shadowbind is the increased defensive armoring and shield systems that allow the vessel to remain in the field and in combat much longer.
WEAKNESSES
  • Utilizing the versatility of its weapon systems can result in a few issues with examples being overheating with the Leamondes and Salamands when switching between their firing modes too quickly or the Undin having to wait for the plasma rotors when switching between firing modes.
  • The crystal matrix that acts as the heart of the Maelstrom system, if damaged, will immediately kill the system and it will be unusable until a new one is installed.
  • While an improvement over the previous hangar bay of the Enmesh, the Shadowbind's hangar is still smaller than many other ships of its class size.
  • The Maeni interdiction field, while powerful, is also indiscriminate and will affect both allied and enemy ships equally while it is engaged.
DESCRIPTION

The eighth warship to be launched from Aurora Industries' Phase III program, the Shadowbind-class Interdictor Cruiser was designed to improve upon and replace the older Enmesh-class cruiser the company had created. Building from the ground up, and once again completely redesigning the hull, the Shadowbind would be a bigger ship than its predecessor, but the engineering team felt this provided far more opportunity than issues. One advantage that immediately became apparent with the increased size was the ability for the team to design a much larger hangar bay for the vessel in comparison to the Enmesh, giving any commanding officer more options when engaging in interdiction duties.

While the company was installing the heavy amounts of the company's current weaponry on the vessel and making sure the armor and shielding systems were improved, the design team approached management with a proposition. For the gravity well generators, the team wanted to use something better than the standard generators the company had been using previously and with the company's own research and development only just beginning to work on a gravity well project, that wasn't an option. They wanted to license a potent interdiction field generator from Roble Manufacturing known as the Maeni, and after some discussions, the company reached an agreement with Roble to acquire the Maeni for the Shadowbind and future projects.
