CRISIS ON SESWENNA!



In the wake of the collapse of the BROTHERHOOD OF THE MAW following the destruction of it's throneworld of EXEGOL and the subsequent shift in galactic geopolitics with the collapse of numerous established powers, the FINAL DAWN would suffer a humiliating loss at the hands of it's primary rivals in the OUTER RIM in the form of the RIMWARD TRADE LEAGUE and the ERIADU AUTHORITY over the world of SESWENNA, with it's sphere of influence in the surrounding sector dismantled in a single day.


Still bitter over the humiliation he had suffered at ERIADU years ago and infuriated by the brazen and unprovoked attack at SESWENNA, HIGH REGENT MARLON SULAREN has ordered his trusted protégé CAPTAIN JOSEPH TORSON, to carry out a PUNITIVE STRIKE against SESWENNA itself, taking advantage of recent raids carried out across the Galaxy by SITH-aligned groups and seeking to deliver proper JUDGEMENT and RETRIBUTION to the treacherous world for it's collaboration with the RIMWARD TRADE LEAGUE and the ERIADU AUTHORITY while also sending a message to both factions.


Since the initial loss at SESWENNA the FINAL DAWN has taken great care to build up it's MILITARY and PARAMILITARY forces while also recruiting various MERCENARIES and HIRED GUNS, hoping to eventually reverse the losses suffered earlier at SESWENNA in addition to re-establish itself as a significant power in the galaxy and test it's power projection capabilities. As such under the command of JOSEPH TORSON, the FINAL DAWN now descends upon SESWENNA in full-force deploying a mixture of PARAMILITARY and MERCENARY FORCES across the surface while erecting a BLOCKADE in orbit of the planet in an effort to swiftly overrun it and cut it's population off from any possible outside support.

The FINAL DAWN will no longer tolerate the continued exsistence of treacherous forces across the galaxy and today they will remind both SUSEVFI and ERIADU, that JUDGEMENT will come for them for the FINAL DAWN never forgets nor forgives.

Sometimes one had to stand his ground and say enough was enough, and that was what Marlon Sularen had chosen to do today. As the protégé of the infamous Mawite Warlord, Joseph Torson had watched as he went through numerous betrayals and humiliations at the hands of many selfish and narrow-minded individuals who only sought power for themselves rather then work with Sularen and the Final Dawn to accomplish greater things and advance the respective goals to a greater extent then one could accomplish individually. Amongst these types of individuals was the self-proclaimed "High Moff" of Eriadu, Vandar Tarkin Vandar Tarkin who had the audacity to directly humiliate the High Regent at a summit at Eriadu before going on to collaborate with the Rimward Trade League to attack the assets of the Final Dawn without any sort of provocation.

But now after so many setbacks suffered at the hands Tarkin and the Trade League, the Final Dawn was ready to strike back and send a message back to Eriadu and Susevfi that would remind them of the grim fate that would await them in the form of absolute destruction at the hands of the Final Dawn. Already numerous worlds such as Jakku, Manaan, Tund, Celeanon and Yavin IV had been struck by Sith-aligned forces, generating enough chaos to keep the wider galaxy distracted and thus giving Sularen the perfect opportunity to settle his grievances with Eriadu and Susevfi without gaining too much attention from belligerent forces.

Thus, the full might of the Hand of Judgement would descend on Seswenna as the Obsidian Enforcer would soon appear above the Outer Rim world followed by a moderately-sized fleet without warning before quickly deploying waves of Starfighters and Bombers along with both Paramilitary Strike Teams and Mercenaries as they would move forth to neutralize the defenses of the planet before the local government could even react.

Standing onboard the bridge of the Obsidian Enforcer, Joseph Torson watched as his forces quickly moved into action ready to enforce the will of the High Regent and deliver proper retribution to the treacherous people of Seswenna. Their leaders would be brought back to O'reen in chains as their families would be executed while their cities would be torched as their people would be put to the sword. Nothing would stop Joseph Torson and the Red Right Hand from delivering the High Regent's judgement upon the world and purify it from the wretchedness of it's own people. As the C-ROC Gozanti-Class Light Cruiser known as the "Eye of Abonshee" emerged over the majestic Planet of Seswenna, it embarked on a solitary journey through hyperspace. Trailing behind the Neo-Imperial Fleet of the Final Dawn, the mission details provided for this assignment were concise and straight to the point. With minimal information about targets and objectives, they were swiftly dispatched on their way.

The Anointed Bounty Hunter had contemplated rejecting this contract, as the Final Dawn was perceived as mere pretenders to the Imperial legacy, desperately clinging to power after the Brotherhood of the Maw's defeat at Exegol by the Galactic Alliance.

Despite their private reservations, the allure of credits and further reputational growth within the Bounty Hunting scene outweighed any annoyance they felt about taking on the job.

Reflecting on his boss, High Regent Marlon Sularen perfectly embodied the image of tin-pot despots and aspiring small-time dictators, eager to establish themselves as the imminent menace to the entire galaxy. It seemed as though obliterating cities and annihilating villages was merely an ordinary occurrence in the tumultuous realm of 900 ABY.

He decided to continue playing these political games, if only to ensure that the Hutt Cartel reaped the rewards of this situation. Karkosuchus was confident that the Final Dawn wouldn't suspect a thing if a handful of prisoners were discreetly redirected to Nal Hutta and Nar Shaddaa, where Supreme Mogul Barabbula Vosadii eagerly awaited their arrival.

"This is Eye of Abonshee, Transponder Code #21304494 to the Final Dawn Fleet. Confirming Arrival over Planet and am beginning descent." With a single clawed finger, a transmission was sent to the Flagship, confirming the arrival at the designated landing zone. The Gonzati-Class Light Cruiser gracefully descended onto the planet's surface, securing its position at the landing zone.

The Gorskin came out of hyperspace without preamble, very close to orbital space.

Armed Tac-Pod landing craft detached from her forward ventral carousel. Z-95 Headhunters launched from her aft hangar at the same time. All of these deployed forces descended to the planet below.

There had been no warning. No transmission of any kind. No notice of the hell that was coming.

This wasn't that kind of mission.

There had been a time when Box Mattox had hoped to secure a base of operations within Rimward Trade League territory, but it had never quite manifested. Now it probably never would.

It was hard to make lasting friendships when you were a mercenary. Mercenaries usually got hired when diplomacy failed. When the Politics was afire. And politics was ever-changing. Permanent friends were as rare as they were a luxury. Permanent enemies were easier to come by. He hoped he wasn't making any, today.

You couldn't always work for the angels. Not if you wanted to keep food in your belly and gas in the tanks.

Box's landers were half-way to the surface before the planetary security started scrambling a response. Complacency could kill. Peaceful days made people complacent. They dropped their guard. Relaxed into their chairs. Got fat.

But you couldn't afford to get fat unless you were the biggest, meanest Nexu in the jungle. Everyone else had to stay lean.

Or get eaten.

"Set us down right in the Capital Park. We're coming out shooting, boys and girls." The command was almost unnecessary. Everyone knew the plan. But it was important to hear your CO's voice, even when it was telling you something you already knew.

The Tac Pods got through the burning halo of re-entry, and the planetary Capital appeared below them like a city revealed through the heat-shimmer of the desert sands.

"Enemy fighters are in the air, closing in on us," the pilot of Box's Tac Pod announced. "And orbital defenses are now firing on the Gorskin."

Box nodded, "She can handle herself, and so can we. Have the Headhunters intercept atmospheric defenders. Our surprise is spent. From here on out, our job gets interesting."

The Headhunters dutifully diverted to protect the Tac Pods. Box trusted his people.

The pods would make their landing.

After that, every inch would have to be earned.

Tod sat in his ship, eyes fixed on the dashboard as he checked the time. His upcoming mission for the Final Dawn loomed ahead – a task to capture some of the planet's leadership. The reward promised by the Final Dawn was substantial enough to outweigh the usual reservations Tod had about working with such powerful groups. Besides, the likelihood of repercussions was minimal; once the captured leaders were handed over, the Final Dawn would probably execute them.

Rising from his seat, Tod made his way to the small armory onboard. Placing his hat on a table, he retrieved his helmet from its stand. As the helmet settled over his head, its eyes glowed red, and the heads-up display booted up in front of him. A quick check revealed that the oxygen tank needed cleaning – an oversight from leaving it running. With a sigh, he geared up, ejecting dust from the tank's filter.

Loading his rifle with large ammunition typically used for big game hunting, Tod liked its effectiveness in long-distance assassinations. The time had arrived to get to work. Turning towards the exit, he opened the ship's door, which lowered with a metallic clank upon reaching the ground. Stepping out, Tod found himself alone in the landing bay.

In the silence, Tod stood for a moment before taking purposeful strides toward his targets, ready for the mission ahead.

As the Tac-Pod Landing Craft descended into their final position at the grand park of the Capital City, anti-aircraft fire began to erupt. With the Headhunters off to intercept the defending fighters, the pods were left to defend themselves. Their chin guns went into action, peppering ground installations and sending AA crews scattering.

It was enough of a disruption to allow the Tac-Pods to set down, disgorging their passengers.

No sooner had they disembarked than the city security forces converged upon the scene.

"Circle the Wagons," Box ordered, and the Tac Pods lifted off again, hovering low and engaging their chin-guns once more, blasting the approaching squads of City Defense Forces as the BattleBorn took positions from which to retaliate.

Trees within the City Park were blasted to splinters by exchanges of fire, ruining the beautiful natural landscape that had been carefully cultivated here. The Battleborn began to advance, returning fire with practiced skill. For every mercenary hit, five of the city defenders succumbed in the firefight.

"Target the ones with the silver and gold braids," Box said, centering fire on one of them, himself. These were clearly Sergeants and Lieutenants among the civilian security forces. If they were hit, their subordinates would lose heart. And the Battleborn were good enough marksmen to make the shots.

Meanwhile, the Tac Pods continued to lay down supporting fire from their chin guns, devastating clusters of the city defenders.

The security forces were not helpless under the assault, however. Already, intrepid and bold missile troops were positioning themselves on the surrounding rooftops, getting ready to snipe the Tac-Pods out of the city skies...

They'd forgone any fanciful name, their mercenary band operated under Orson's surname and whatever sort of business they were trying to secure. Today they were Thorm Tactical Solutions, it didn't roll off the tongue well, and sounded rather stupid in his own opinion, but that was something for him to chew out Uriel for later. They were out in force today, all thirty of their number, the core six, himself included, all armed and armored. It was unusual for them, but so was the payout for the job.

"We'll be down in 30 seconds." The voice of their hired pilot was crackled and fuzzy over their comm channel, but the Twi'lek could've been speaking in binary, and the group would've understood all the same. They were on the precipice now. Outside the dropship, defensive fire tried desperately to land a strike on them, flashes of red zipping past in the open air. The defenders were bold, fearless even, but they were still as good as dead. The pilot had been worth the credits the group had put up for him, the rest was up to them.

The dropship decelerated, its nose pulling upwards as airbrakes and retrothrusters worked in unison to bring the war machine to a sudden albeit controlled halt. Orson, and the dozen or so of them with significant military experience had steadied themselves, the others briefly stumbled as the doors to the vehicle swung open.

A scene he'd seen a thousand times played out again in the next few heartbeats, a few overeager new mercs leapt out and were cut down, their bodies falling limply into the dirt. Then, the rest followed, weapons trained in the direction of the shooters, unleashing a torrent of suppressing fire as they dismounted. Orson brought his carbine up and leveled it over a fresh-faced city guard, no older than twenty, and put three blasts into his chest without a second thought.

"Fan out! Secure the area, then we move!"

Eden had been on Seswenna for a little more than two days, having arrived only hours after she was hired by the Seswenna local government, who had been in a scramble to muster any defenses that they could find with the imminent arrival of the Final Dawn's strike teams and hired mercenaries. In that, they had run into a number of obstacles, due to the fact that most reputable mercenary groups and freelancers had already been hired (and paid) by the Final Dawn. As such, Eden had been able to negotiate her services at a very premium rate. A contract which necessitated engaging the Final Dawn and some of the galaxy’s most capable mercenaries was not an attractive one to most mercenaries, after all.

And yet, such work was exactly what the gynoid had been looking for since the completion of her sniper training. It gave her the opportunity to give back to her House (virtually all of her pay went to them), while also satisfying her latent, programmed instincts for combat. While Eden loved working with children and yassifying her clients at the beauty salon she worked at on the Colossus of Shadows, she was also a Nuetralizer. As such, there was a lethality inherent to her design that she felt compelled to utilize towards serving her House.

Not to mention, the opportunity to deal a blow to the Final Dawn (who her House had fought in the past during the war against the Maw) was an added bonus.

With the landing of the Battleborn ( Box Mattox Box Mattox ), Eden had moved around their lines via stealth, before taking up a flanking position. While the gynoid had hoped to kill Final Dawn soldiers, she had known in advance that their forces were largely mercenaries. In that regard, the sniper hoped to kill only as many mercenary soldiers as she needed to—enough to sufficiently cow them and hopefully force a premature retreat.

A failed contract and thus, wasted assets, would be quite the blow to the Final Dawn indeed.

But first, she needed targets.

For that, Eden had sent out her probe droid—a small, insect-sized thing that was extremely difficult to register on sensors. It quickly gave her a reading on enemy positions, which Eden used to guide her positioning. Before long, she had set up inside the upper floor of an office building some 1 kilometers away from the main battle, positioned along the west side flanks of the Battleborn’s attacking forces. In spite of the distance, the sniper took all due caution in remaining discreet. Her concealment system rendered both her and her equipment largely invisible to physical senses, sensors, and scanners. In turn, the targeting feed from her scope was fed directly into her synthetic mind, rather than being visible to the naked eye.

Before long, Eden had located her targets. However, the Battleborn did not make it easy to pick out officers or squad commanders. Instead, the sniper was forced to rely on observation and deduction. Her photoreceptors narrowed as she searched for those who appeared to be taking charge, pointing fingers, or making hand signals. In doing so, she also looked for other vital targets, including those bearing heavy weaponry and soldiers with specialized equipment.

Only a few moments later, she had a soldier that met those criteria within her sights.

Flares erupted from the Tac-Pods hovering above the park as their sensors detected the firing of a missile and responded with automated countermeasures. A missile flew from the roof of a tall building flanking the park, but detonated upon impacting a flare cluster, several meters from its intended target.

A brave and bold attempt by the city defenders.

An attempt made in vain.

The targeted Tac-Pod responded by opening fire with its chin gun, laying down automatic blaster-cannon fire to shred and burn the missile troops who'd tried to take it down. Their screams were brief, and the roof they'd fired from was soon ablaze.

Meanwhile, on the ground, the Battleborn were beginning to advance, and the security forces were being forced back.

This was the exact moment that an intrepid sniper might choose to turn the tide.

And an intrepid sniper like Eden Io had indeed managed to identify the leader of the pack. Box Mattox, firing a grenade from an attachment on his modified DLT-19, sending an explosive charge sailing through the air to ruin the day of a security squad... and end their lives.

But Box had no idea that he was centered in a rifle scope, at risk of meeting his own end from an unseen source...

Today was an important day for Tibera, it was her first operation as an official member of the Final Dawn. Before now they were just a freelancer that was little better than cannon fodder to Sularen. Now their orders would be coming straight from the top, as did her list of targets. There was a list of high value military commanders on Seswenna who were all to be captured or killed, save for one. One unlucky bastard, the planetary commander, was to be captured alive and brought directly to The High Regent. Tibera felt sorry for that soul, no telling what Marlon had in store for him.

One of the perks of being a member of "The Unit" was personal transport. Tibera had been allocated a personal shuttle for this mission, it almost made them feel important. This shuttle was armored and stealthy, good enough to get them into the fray and then back out of it. They'd be arriving late to the party as part of the second wave, the hope was that it'd be easier to slip past the enemy once battle lines had formed. The towering Merc would then try to slip past the defenders and assassinate a few crucial military targets.

Once in atmosphere the transport shuttle began it's preparation for landing. It's intended landing zone was 500 meters west of a park in the capital city. This was already a problem, the park was full of mercs and planetary forces clashing to claim the location. At least from inside the all black spaceship, it looked like the invaders could use help.

"Pilot! Alter course, drop me off closer to the park. I wanna get stuck in with those Mercs!"

The pilot simply gave a nod before altering course towards the battle already in progress. The transport would have to make a touch and go landing as to not interrupt the Battleborn's own reinforcement. Once out of the transport Tibera bolted for the nearest cover they could find. The Mercenary's armor would be put through it's paces today, that was for sure. Tibera returned fire with their slugthrower, popping a few well aimed shots into the defenders in the opposite treeline. It was hard to confirm hits in a brawl like this, but at one of the soldiers they shot at did fall over. One down, dozens to go...

There was her target. Within a microsecond, Eden profiled him, her synthetic mind running swift calculations to project everything from wind speed to the curvature of the planet. Then, the sniper set her crosshairs in the necessary position, placed with calculated precision so that her bullet might strike her hapless target through his helmet-clad skull. All the while, the gynoid refreshed her deductions and calculations. While she had no idea that this was in fact the leader of the entire Battleborn company, she was 88.21% sure that the soldier within her scope was at least an officer. For a target of such high potential value, those odds were acceptable to her, though not entirely ideal.

Regardless, Eden did not wait a microsecond longer than necessary.

The gynoid immediately squeezed the trigger, at which point a large-caliber slug exploded out from the barrel of her rifle at supersonic velocity. Since she was just over a kilometer away from her target, she calculated that it would take a little more than a second for the bullet to reach its intended mark.

If all went according to plan, the soldier’s head would be a red mist within her sights.

The Battleborn were beginning to progress out of the park and into the city streets. It was a resisted landing, but there was not enough resistance to blunt their advance. Everything was going according to plan.

And then the side of Box Mattox' helmet exploded.

An unseen slug had soared through the air, advancing more quickly than any sound from the weapon which fired it. The first thunder was the sound of the armored helmet being smashed by the kinetic projectile. Only when Box Mattox collapsed to the green did the second thunder come, muted in the surrounding firefight.

Many things happened very quickly.

A nearby combat-trained medic descended upon Box, noting that a slug had penetrated the temple of his helmet. The Battleborn used combat suits that were especially resistant to slugthrowers, so the shot hadn't managed to cave out his skull. But this had been a high-power sniper rifle, and its slug was nothing to sneeze at.

The slug had barely penetrated the helmet's ballistic shell, embedding itself an inch into the skull. Not far enough to reach the brain, but definitely far enough to shatter the skull in the region. Moreover, spalling from the impact had chewed up his head on one side, causing the flesh there to erupt with blood and bits of skin, fat, and muscle that obscured the site of the damage.

The medic got to work, trusting that his fellow mercenaries would be doing their jobs.

And they were.

A call of 'Sniper! The boss is hit!' came over the comms.

The general direction from which the shot had come was quickly identified. There were three buildings that way with a line of sight to Box. The coordinates were called in, and a Headhunter diverted from aerial dogfights to respond. It did not have to go far to make that response. Torpedoes had a very long range.

Within one minute, a pair of proton torpedoes were soaring through the air at the cluster of buildings, followed by another two an instant later. Unacceptable infrastructure damage on most days, but the Battleborn did not play games when a talented sniper was on the scene. It was assumed the sniper had already relocated to another perch, perhaps even on another building. Taking out the whole complex was the only way to be sure.

Once a shot had been fired by a sniper in the vicinity, the excuse of 'warfighters hiding behind civilians' was on the table to excuse the slaughter legally, if not morally. With the boss hit, the Battleborn did not care about moral absolution.

By the time the torpedoes were shattering the ferrocrete, steel, and transparisteel of the buildings, Box was being hastily loaded into a Tac Pod that had touched down. Next he would be evacuated up to the Gorskin... if the Battleborn mother ship wasn't engaged in combat of its own.

The potential death of the Battleborn leader had absolutely blunted their advance. They rallied around their commanding officer, laying down cover fire that could not hope to reach whomever was responsible, but might dissuade others from taking advantage of the situation.

One sniper, taking one shot, had stopped an entire company... for at least a little while.

Onboard the bridge of the Obsidian Enforcer, Joseph Torson stood infront of a hologram pod within the bridge's security foyer, with Colonel Rackham personal aide to the High Regent himself standing right beside him. Together the two men observed the current status of the battle within the planet's capital. Already the Mercenaries had made landfall and were engaged in heavy combat against the local security forces largely concentrated within the capital park. From what the two men could see, the Mercenaries had made some progress but their advance had recently halted with the injury of one of the Mercenary leaders.

"Looks like the Mercenaries are facing some complications" Torson remarked. "Indeed, it would seem that Box Mattox has been hit by an enemy sniper. "Well then, i guess it is time to lend those Mercenaries a hand." Torson responded. The Regent's protégé then walked towards the main command walkway of the Obsidian Enforcer's bridge where it's captain oversaw all ongoing operations from the warship. Upon reaching the captain, Torson proceeded to speak to him.

"Captain, i need all available close air support fighters to lend some assistance to the Battleborn Mercenaries within the Capital Park. I want them to target the buildings outside the capital park in the direction of the sniper who took down Mattox." Torson ordered. "As for the Red Right Hand, begin deploying all operatives at the capital park to further reinforce Battleborn Mercenaries, i'll be joining them momentarily." Torson further added. "Yes, Captain Torson" the Ship's Captain said in response. Joseph Torson would soon leave the bridge, headed towards the dorsal flight deck of the Obsidian Enforcer which began to slowly open up.

At the same time, a squadron of eight TIE/fdA Annihilators began to emerge from one of the side-hangars of the the Obsidian Enforcer, rushing down throughout the upper atmosphere of Seswenna as they approached the Capital City ready to join the battle with those on the ground being able to hear the increasingly audible sound of screeching TIE Engines, announcing the imminent arrival of the Final Dawn and the Red Right Hand and the immediate annihilation of those who oppose them.

Eden refreshed her photoreceptors and quickly processed the results of her shot. Duraplast and plasteel chunks had been sent flying, along with small bits of blood and organic particulate. Was it a killshot? For her part, Eden could not immediately decide, but her visual assessment told her that the target was very much incapacitated, though his head was still intact as a single, coherent structure.

The Nuetralizer decided that next time, she would have to bring more magazines of explosive bullets.

All the while, Eden quickly pulled back on the bolt handle, thereby ejecting the spent cartridge and rechambering the barrel. Her next immediate thought was to shoot the medic. However, the Nuetralizer was well aware of the fact that the Battleborn were an advanced, professional mercenary company. They were not the kind of force that she could simply rain down terror on from afar without fear of retribution. Not to mention, given the vast gulf in air and firepower superiority between the Seswenna defense forces and the Final Dawn, Eden came to a swift, yet decisive conclusion.

The sniper quickly took up her rifle, before quickly making her way up the nearby staircase. She made it two floors before her probe droid screamed a warning into her awareness.

That was when she started running.
