SPECIAL FEATURES

STRENGTHS
  • Like its big brother the Hellmaw, the droid can travel underground, bypassing many defences. Appearing in the midst of the enemy, it allows a contingent soldiers to exit from ports along the side and bottom. This is helpful to break up static frontlines, such as during urban combat and trench warfare, or to infiltrate an enemy base or city.
  • The vehicle has strong anti-personnel weapons. It is a good infantry shredder and can threaten even light vehicles. The mining drill can also pierce the armour of many vehicles, but needs to be close to do that.
  • Unlike the Hellmaw, this vehicle is fast, allowing it to potentially evade enemy fire when above ground.
  • Reflec coating, sound bafflers and other features give the transport a small sensor profile. This means initial scans will have difficulty detecting it, aiding infiltration operations.
WEAKNESSES
  • The small sensor profile does not translate into perfect stealth. For one, the transport does not visibly cloak since it lacks a cloaking device. Moreover, actualy using the drills to make a hole will obviously be very loud and nullify any sound suppression. Basically, if the vehicle actually uses its weapons or drives fast, it will show up on someone's radar. Reflec cannot make a contact disappear entirely, as that is the domain of cloaking technology.
  • It is good at bypassing fortifications and emplaced defences, but that does not mean it can avoid detection entirely. The sound of the drill and the crushing of rocks and the like can alert the enemy that something is wrong.
  • The transport has many, many legs, which means that many must be destroyed to halt it. However, they are vulnerable to heavy ordnance, lightsabres and the like. If enough are blown up or disabled, the mechanical worm cannot move.
  • Limited by range and firepower. It is not good at standing up to heavily armoured vehicles like tanks or heavy walkers. The drill is effective against them, but has a short range and its other weapons are largely anti-personnel.
  • Vulnerable to air strikes above ground. It is faster than the Hellmaw and thus better at evading, but only carries a single missile with no reloads.
  • It is a machine and thus susceptible to ionic and EMP attacks. It has some protection, but this largely covers weapons used by infantry or light vehicles. By contrast, a big ion bomb is not so easily endured and can disable or damage the vehicle.
DESCRIPTION

The vehicle follows a similar concept as the Hellmaw Subterranean Transport and is thus best understood in relation to it. Like the Hellmaw, it is essentially a mechanical worm armed with an array od weapons and the ability to burrow underground and transport a unit of soldiers. Enyo calls it the AA-HM2 Subterranean Transport 2. The more dramatic name is the Razormaw Subterranean Transport.

The vehicle is perfect for bypassing fortifications and making a breach in static defensive lines, such as during urban combat scenarios and trench warfare. Naturally, it is also useful for special forces operators and other elite troops that have been charged with knocking out a specific strategic objective. It resembles a big centipede with an armoured carapace and lots of legs. Each of these legs is able to slice, tear or throw infantry. The rotating plasma drill enables the vehicle to drill a hole large enough for it to slip beneath the earth. It can drill through rocks and concrete, though soft ground is obviously easier, less noisy or time-consuming. The drill can pierce vehicle armour and buildings, though this obviously requires it to be close.

Moreover, it can unload troops and has a variety of anti-personnel weapons to scythe infantry and even light vehicles. In contrast to its parent model, this version is a lot faster, enabling it to evade enemy fire from slower craft and giving it more mobility. This also makes it easier for it maintain pace with other vehicles. Compared to its parent model, the vehicle is less big and has a lower profile.

In addition, it features Reflec coating, sound bafflers and other features that make it more difficult to hear its approach or detect it with scanners and sensors, though it does not visibly cloak and a dedicated scan can detect oddities. As is typical for Archangel designs, the transport is controlled by a powerful droid brain, which it does not need a crew.

Enyo understands that automation has resulted in job loss for many sentient beings. Her solution is to help them find gainful employment by processing them into machines, which has the beneficial side-effect of relieving them of any healthcare concerns. The craft is not well equipped to deal with heavy armour except at close range, which means it will require support in larger engagements. Furthermore, it is vulnerable to air and artillery strikes when above ground.
