Mission Outbound Flight: The Jaws of Defeat

SETUP

Senator Dominic Praxon vanished during the Ssi-Ruuk assault on the Outbound Flight.

Recent intelligence has identified two possible locations where he may be held. Unfortunately, both reports appear credible. With time running short, the Jedi have elected to split their forces and investigate both leads simultaneously.

Assigned to infiltrate a Ssi-Ruuk sub-orbital station hidden within the storms of a gas giant.

Planet PS-1X03VT is a dead zone. Officially, it is off-limits to the Outbound Flight vessel. The hostile, warmongering Ssi-Ruuk claim this space. Intelligence indicates this is no mere outpost. The enemy runs a dual-purpose operation here: a massive toxic gas mining facility, and a black-site detainment camp.

Your target is Site Aurek. It is a sprawling fortress floating in the planet's dense, toxic upper atmosphere. The base is completely submerged in a sea of sickly green gas. Only its primary communications antenna pierces the cloud layer.

Strike Team Aurek will deploy via low-altitude shuttle drop. The atmosphere is highly lethal. Breathing apparatus must be worn at all times. No exceptions.

This is a lightning strike. Hit hard. Get out fast.

Once any Republic hostages are recovered, signal the shuttle, rendezvous at the extraction point, and blow up the station.

Assignments for this mission are as follows:
SABOTAGE: Plant thermal detonation charges on primary infrastructure.
RECOVERY: Locate, breach, and extract any Republic personnel.
HOLD THE LINE: Secure and defend the exfiltration point at all costs.

The Ssi-Ruuk are expanding their footprint across this sector. A new planetary asset has been discovered under the designation PS-2R67T8, and it represents a massive escalation in enemy military capability.

This world has been transformed into a massive forward staging ground for future coreward incursions. The enemy is using a vast network of forced labour to process prisoners and fuel a rapid, large-scale war mobilisation.

Your target is Site Besh. It is a colossal skyhook anchored directly to the terrestrial surface. This massive orbital elevator pulls mined resources straight up into the vacuum of space, where the Ssi-Ruuk are using the materials to build a massive shipyard infrastructure.

Strike Team Besh will infiltrate the highest decks of the skyhook facility in low orbit. You will deploy via a stealth transport drop-off outside the perimeter. The team is required to execute a high-risk spacesuit deployment, utilising specialised vacuum thruster packs to cross the void and breach the station's outer hull.

You are the scalpel. If this orbital shipyard becomes fully operational, the Republic faces an empowered foe.

Your team must breach the facility, disrupt the planetary supply chain, and cripple their manufacturing capabilities. Once objectives are secure, liberate the captives, fight your way to the extraction zone, and bring the skyhook down.

Assignments for this mission are as follows:
SABOTAGE: Sever the skyhook tether mechanism to isolate the shipyard from surface resources.
RECOVERY: Locate, liberate, and extract all Republic prisoners processing through the hub.
HOLD THE LINE: Secure and defend the extraction zone against enemy response.

The successful team will move to extraction.

The trapped team will need to fight their way clear before they can withdraw.

The light was red.

Dominic was certain of it. It was red. There...a blink. A stutter in the dark. He had been tracking the intervals for hours. Or weeks. There was no rhythm to it, no predictable cadence, which meant only one thing.

It was a cipher. It had to be.

Someone was broadcasting to him. The realisation did not bring comfort. Instead, it only deepened the woe. If they were hiding the transmission in the emergency strobes, the situation outside was already catastrophic.

Time had lost its edges, dissolving into a singular, suffocating haze. But a politician's mind does not stop spinning just because the world does. Dominic did what he had spent a lifetime doing...he adapted. He analysed. If he could map the anomalies against standard republic military code, he could translate the flickering. He could find the message.

So, Senator Dominic Praxon lay still on the freezing durasteel slab, his eyes wide and bloodshot, desperately decoding the secrets of a completely solid, unblinking blue light.

The Tano-Class Jedi Shuttle descended upon PS-2R67T8 quickly and at a safe distance from Ssi-Ruuk sensors, piloted by a skilled two-man skeleton crew and occupied by members of Strike Team Besh. Among them, Balun Dashiell stood at the mouth of the cockpit, his eyes scanning ahead for signs of interference from Ssi-Ruuk forces, his mind internalising their mission objectives.

There were six of them, each skilled and capable in their own right, force users one and all. A glance over Balun's shoulder was all it would take to find assurance from the presence of his peers, a vital boost of confidence considering the likely opposition they would face. The skyhook was their target, a possible point of contact for the missing senator, Dominic Praxon , a man of influence and value to The High Republic.

The Republic Defence Fleet, Strategic Command and the Jedi Council had committed to the plan of the mission. The strike teams' landing zone would be set some distance from the sky hook itself. Though they would need to proceed on foot, the colossal feat of engineering would be visible from the moment each of them stepped out into the open, a spear of infrastructure rising from the surface, piercing the atmosphere and carrying all manner of minerals for the Ssi-Ruuk to distribute in a further bid for expansion across the system.

According to Republic Intelligence, there remained a high likelihood that captives were present within, forced to labour. Strike Team Besh's objectives were threefold: sabotage the goliath facility, rescue and evacuate all Republic personnel, and finally establish a defensive perimeter around their designated extraction zone so the RDF could get them out of harm's way.

Touching down on the surface of PS-2R67T8, the loading bay ramp descended, and as each of them chose their moment to taste the foreign air, Balun Dashiell stepped out among them, looking ahead to the distant steel spire, taking in a slow, deep breath in anticipation of the trials that lay ahead. Republic Intelligence hadn't been able to provide them with clarity as to the number of hostiles stationed within the Sky Hook, but that the Ssi-Ruuk had erected such a facility suggested all too clearly that they would be outnumbered and foolish to approach the mission loudly. As such, discretion and stealth were their best bet to reach the objective and proceed as far inside the spire before their cover could be blown; Balun figured it was inevitable, the odds were against them, but they still had the Force as an ally, and they were here to rescue their own.

"Alright, time to set to work then..." Balun spoke quietly, more to himself than anyone else. He didn't relish the idea of taking lives, but he had also never shied away from a necessary fight when it was unavoidable. Sadly, his greatest skills came in the way of combatant abilities, something he had been seeking to rectify yet would likely serve him well today.
