Islimore was a beautiful planet from orbit. Had been advertised as a jewel of attractions from every brochure that Fel had gotten her hands on. And it had very well seemed like that when The Brut had dropped them off.

The problems began after Felmorante, and her parasite Kurineth, had figured out who made the rules on the planet.

A group calling themselves the Fayth. Or Faith. Or something like that. It had made Felmorante sneer and Kurineth gag. As much as the immaterial being could do. Ultimately almost making Fel gag at the mental visualization she had to endure from the other being that inhabited her body.

A strange arrangement they had been working on for some time after the incident between the Maw and the Eternal Empire.

An arrangement Fel had originally been against until Kurineth had stabilized the crystal that housed her soul. At the exchange of allowing Kurineth to play parasite on her soul and body. Separate minds, and separate bodily control, both neither existed without the other now.

Or at least for the foreseeable future according to the parasite.

Both silently kept an eye on the humans that tailed them throughout their tour. The wolf droid drawing particular interest it seemed as they tasted local quinine, pilfered through local attire, and even enjoyed a small play that had been put on by citizens.

And all the while feeling the steely gaze of those ingrates from the docks. Angry at the sight of her wolf droid. Eyeing it as though it might spring forward and attack them without prompting.

Which had truly been a tempting idea as Kurineth wound her sliver of shadow around the impudent humans. Pilfering through their surface thoughts like a water skimmer before returning to the shadow below Felmorante.

"There exists fear in their minds at that companion beside you." Kurineth sung in Fel's mind. The smile dropping to a feral grin.

"Distracted by the least dangerous thing around." Felmora growled, low and with a concerning amount of pleasure. Kurineth's only concern the confidence behind the lingering thoughts the pair were privy to.

Even with the few purchases under their arm, it had done nothing to put the Fayth's tail on her at ease. Apparent by their growing proximity as the hours dragged on.

More and more they began to draw nearer to Felmorante. Eyes harsh and pointedly staring as she blatantly ignored their continued existence. It wasn't until the shops started denying her access that she deigned to making them dissappear. A path out of the little town leading towards a wooded area if she remembered correctly.

Something she hadn't seen the locals even glance toward as she skipped in the direction with an all too happy smirk across her face.

Her Fayth tail seemed all the more set on her now. Their steps loud and purposed behind her as she seemed to gain distance from them with each subtle skip. The dark side singing in her legs as the ground began to slide by in her speed. Angry grumbling turned to shouts behind her from the ingrates that meant to stop her.

At first feigning ignorance before the sharp sound of a weapon discharging made her pause.

The snap of a missed shot turning the smile upside down. They'd shot at her?

"I believe you were the one to remind me about minding my temper?" Kurineth's sing song voice chastised her. The wolf droid had easily kept pace, pausing in place a few strides ahead of her to turn and tilt its head in silent question.

"Shooting at someone isn't really something anyone should ignore or be calm about." Felmorante snapped, turning on her heel and whirling about with a disgusted grimace at the handful of humans gathered there.

"You shouldn't ignore us little miss." While trying to be threatening, the slight twitch of a grin appearing beneath her eyes at their breathless state. A handful with their hands on their knees, and a few others breathing hard but still upright.

"Not sorry. My aunty told me to never talk to strangers." She curtsied before making to turn around as Kurineth snickered at the display of disrespect.

"We aren't strangers little miss. We are the Law. And we have some questions for you." Felmorante glanced backwards, placing a finger to her mouth as if in deep thought.

"We are here for sightseeing. And to find the dreamers. Don't forget that." The sing song voice in Fel's mind turning into a sharp cord of displeasure at the turn of events.

The Wolfswood was not a place the Fayth came. Not this far. Not ever.

They are becoming bolder.

Numerous sentinels, trustworthy and vigilant, had born witness to a peculiar sight - a woman promenading alongside what appeared to be a mechanical wolf, its cold metal form gleaming through the gaps of the thick golden canopy overhead. This brazen demonstration amounted to two transgressions in the eyes of her pursuers.

From the reports she'd gathered, none were able to discern the true nature of her species, but whoever she was, she danced through the ancient forest with all the whimsy of a carefree spirit. Locals were taught from infancy to never come anywhere near the woods, and those who dared —either from curiosity, to prove their bravery, or on explicit order—never came back. The Lupo made sure of that.

Only Auslanders, or those whose minds had abandoned them, would brave these depths.

With a patience born of necessity, Aelin allowed her thoughts to turn inward, contemplating the gravity of the moment - that crucial instant when she would be called to act. If these trespassers escaped with their lives, any hope of preserving what little refuge they had left in this fractured world, would be forfeit.

Crouched low, she glided alongside the moving group, paws giving no hint of her presence, barely disturbing the fallen leaves that carpeted the forest floor. Watching and waiting for the time to strike.

The coat about her hid the majority of her toys that dotted the different places they were mounted on the skinsuit beneath. Though Fel could feel their familiar weight with professional grace as she dropped the slight show of respect at the mention of being the law of the land.

Her body shifting slightly, arms crossed and head tilted enough to challenge.

"The Law? Mmm. Does the Law like chasing after little girls in their free time?" A sing song voice calling back as none of them flinched at the suggestion beneath her words.

"Your droid. Hand it over."

"Shiny? No. He's mine." Her eyes narrowed sharply, arms unfolding as her hands came to rest on her hips. The droid sauntered closer, plates along the shoulders and spine sharply pointed upright as it took a half turned stand in front of her.

A hand quickly finding the worn in spot along the droids back. Whether for her own comfort or the droids assurance had been lost at this point.

"Hand the droid over and come quietly. Your last warning." Several of the humans fanned out, a pair drawing weapons while one behind the speaker seemed to rifle through their pockets or belt from Fel's partially blocked view.

The sharp frown shifted, creases forming beneath her eyes as she let her eyes grow wide.

"Don't touch Shiny if you like your hands. My only warning." Fel's shadow seemed to creep out from beneath her, the forest quieting to the men gathered as they stared at her. The shadow settled back into place at her feet, the force winding itself around the gathering as a ripple of distorted air became a dome around them. The man behind the other stepping forward and producing a strange pistol as Shiny gnashed it's metal fangs at them.

The buzz of electric energy crackled through the air. The small bolt of energy seeking the wolf droids face.

It found empty space as the droid propelled itself backward, claws throwing dirt and debris loose as the droid gave a short metallic howl as Felmorante side stepped the other way, feeling the energy sing along the clothing atop her leg.

That strange smile never faded as the droid and girl fanned out. More gathered to deal with the droid than the girl however to her surprise.

"Fools." Kurineth cackled in Fel's mind.

Felmorante flowed among the small number that had gathered around her. Weapons produced to knock her out ranging from simple batons to what looked like a heavy blunt object that would have certainly crushed her bones. The trouble however came with trying to hit her, having all too much fun with the mounting frustration of taunts.

"Oh so close!

You guys almost seem professional!

Are you guys getting bored yet?
"
Jovial tone alive and filled with malicious laughter as she ducked below that heavy weapon aimed at her face.

The mechanical yelp made her pause as another came with the baton to strike her. The droid caught in a strange trap pole as several humans gathered round with familiar heavy headed maces closed around Shiny and began to fervently strike him.

The sounds of metal groaning and shearing forcing the smile to flee from her face. The baton wielding human striking true as her head dipped with the blow, her whole body going slack.
