SPECIAL FEATURES

STRENGTHS
  • Automated and controlled by an intelligent droid brain.
  • Fast and deadly. Its array of weapons makes it a threat to infantry and heavily armoured vehicles alike.
WEAKNESSES
  • Being a droid walker, the vehicle is very tech-heavy. Even with defensive features like shielding and Reinforced Duraplast, heavy ion and EMP artillery and bombs can pierce its defences and render the walker immobile or destroy it.
  • Being a walker, the legs are an obvious weak spot. Octopedal propulsion means it can lose a bunch and still carry on, but if it loses too many it is crippled.
DESCRIPTION

Many people dislike or are creeped out by spiders. Enyo is quite fond of them. She also likes designing mechanical terrors for battlefield use. The result is the Advanced Automated Walker. In typical Enyo tradition, it has a very mundane name. Enyo's clone posse finds the official name boring and has christened it the Octocreeper Strike Droid. The Terminatrix disapproves strongly, remarking that this is the sort of name that would be used by a second-rate Sith in a B-holomovie.

The look of the machine is deliberately alien, contrasting with the designs typically favoured for walkers. Its eight legs can traverse different types of terrain and climb up or down ledges and steel ramps and even scale cliffs. Its octagonal propulsion means that while the legs are obvious weak spots, it is more difficult to topple than a conventional bipedal or quadrupedal walker. Gyroscopic technology helps the walker maintains its balance where possible.

The walker's purpose is quite simple. Built to resemble a mechanical spider, it is supposed to spread terror carnage. Its legs can scythe down enemy infantry that has the misfortune of getting in its way, and it has been equipped with a powerful array of ranged weapons. For a walker of its size, the combat automaton is quite fast, which helps it evade fire from less nimble enemy units and launch surprise attacks. Its hexapedal propulsion enables it to manoeuvre a variety of types of terrain and make it more difficult to disable than the typical bipedal walker. The preferred tactical approach is for the walker - or rather a small squadron of them - to use their mobility to strike their targets fast, before retreating quickly. Ideally enemy units will not only suffer damage, but give pursuit, which can be used to lure them into a trap.

In keeping with Archangel design philosophy, the walker has a powerful droid brain. The Unity Processing Matrix uses a modified entechment process that avoids the usual pitfalls associated with entechment, such as keeping unstable organics in a state of constant agony. Instead the organics are killed, then their essence is rendered down and converted into a part of an elaborate computer system. This is not an AI, as it lacks any form of independence, but it allows multiple organics to be forged into a single powerful piece of technology. When plugged into a walker, as is the case here, the Unity acts as a powerful droid brain. The machine has a superior ability to handle advanced calculations, predictions and tactical situations.

With one of these installed the machine is able to handle exponentially more calculations, predictions and tactical situations, leading to an increased efficiency. In the case of the walker, this results in increased tactical awareness, predictive powers and improved aiming. The walker can move, fire and avoid danger without lags. This means the vehicle functions without a crew, as all processes are automated. The use of a droid brain and the lack of transport capacity means the walker does not need to provide space to accommodate a crew or passengers. The downside of being a machine is that the walker is obviously susceptible to ion weapons and EMP. It has defensive systems to counter such weapons, but once these are down or have been overwhelmed, they are an effective way to disable or impede the walker.
