As the Galactic Alliance completed its goal of wholly reuniting the Core Regions, the Senate began looking towards commissioning yet another special project from the Republic Engineering Corporation. While that Coruscanti-based megacorp produced a vast majority of their war material in the past, including several Super-Capital Warships, that august body was looking for something that would fulfill a more supportive role, rather than act as a frontline warship. To that end, Republic Engineering found itself challenged. It was true that they made countless support vessels for their clients before, but never something on this grand of a scale. Initially, there was talk about creating a massive and militarized fleet tender that would be capable of resupplying and refitting an entire fleet behind enemy lines. While impressive in its own right, it wouldn’t serve the grand scheme of the Alliance’s new direction, especially when their war with the Sith Empire finally came to an end.
Instead, the Corporation found itself adopting an idea that was brought forth by several of their smaller design teams. They pitched the concept of a supportive Super-Capital warship that was not only capable of defending itself but also capable of assisting the advance of their naval forces by engaging the enemy in advanced EWAR strategies and tactics. Naturally, a majority of these methods were already available to many of the Corporation’s current catalogue, but there were several items that were added in at a later date to make this new warship stand out from the rest of its kind.
Thus, as the concept was accepted and approved by the Senate, the Intergalactic Shipwright began setting out to fabricate their additions, whilst other portions of the Corporation began to collect what couldn’t be created in-house. In addition, the Shipwright invited several of its subsidiaries and corporate rivals to participate in this monumental endeavour. While several of these invitations were respectfully refused, as some lacked the capacity or space to fulfill the immense demands that this new Star Defender required, some were gratefully accepted. The most notable amongst the list was the Corellian Engineering Corporation, which provided a more angular skeleton to act as the foundation for this mighty behemoth. In many ways, it was a crude imitation of the more sleek Mon Calamari designs, but it would be sufficient enough for the task at hand.
As the skeleton was being nano-welded with portions of armour plating, the first of the collected items found its way into the heart of the Warship. This item was the most difficult to procure, as the Corporate Envoys had no idea to contain the non-sentient creature at first. With these creatures being believed to be extinct well over Eight Centuries ago, it was almost a herculean effort to locate one of these creatures - let alone preserve it within a containment unit. However, through some miracle, the lone hermit that tended to the creature found themselves in a generous mood. Through a period of successful bargains, the Hermit was well-compensated for their knowledge and troubles, as the Corporate Envoys were bequeathed ancient schematics that would safely contain the creature within a gargantuan container.
This creature was a Teezl, which had a curious effect on hyperspace communications. On one hand, the Teezl could be utilized as a natural Hypercomms amplifier. Through means unknown, it would boost the effectiveness of the warship’s integrated communications suite - which meant that it was capable of punching through even the hardiest Signal Jammers with relative ease. Naturally, the inverse was true as well. Through a slight alteration in the input feed, the Teezl could potentially sever a Planet’s connection to the greater galaxy. By utilizing what some have coined as “psychic shrieks” the Teezl sought to block any conventional wavelength that wasn’t utilized by its masters. This ability to jam an enemy’s hypercomms suite made the Teezl an invaluable addition to the Star Defender’s repertoire, especially when it was safeguarded within the proverbial heart of the warship.
While a potent addition to the Morai-Class, as the Warship was affectionately christened, the Teezl proved to be a significant flaw in the Star Defender’s design. Should the containment unit be heavily breached and the Teezl within damaged in any capacity, the creature would shatter into a billion pieces and render a significant portion of the Morai-Class defunct. Basically, it meant that the Teezl needed to be protected at all costs, lest the Star Defender’s tactical capabilities be wasted on a foolhardy endeavour. Although there was the potential for a great loss, should the Teezl be destroyed, the Morai-Class was outfitted with a host of ‘Next-Generation’ EWAR and Stealth-capable components.
At least, should the worst happen, the Star Defender wouldn’t be a total waste of Corporate and Government-approved funding.
The pseudo-stealth suite of this ‘next-gen’ loadout was in a fortunate position, as it didn’t rely on ridiculous expenses such as stygium crystals. Instead, the pseudo-stealth suite of the Morai preyed upon more practical means of detection and personified the various aspects of cunning and guile. With countless sensor masks and baffles, the Star Defender was outfitted with a Multispectrum Disguise Suite, that would assist the massive vessel in its duties. Through the inclusion of that device, the Morai would not only be able to mask its signature on almost every spectrum, but the massive warship would also be able to holographically disguise itself as something else. In many ways, it was an ingenious application of technological advancements woven into a singular platform.
However, when it came to the EWAR components, there was a single item that stood out amongst the rest. This item was the inclusion of Remote Combat Drones that were outfitted with a selection of Security Spikes and Slicer Chips. While inconspicuous, in terms of their sensor profile, these Drones would follow a selection of pre-set directives after they were launched into the depthless void. While their directives would vary, these Drones would attach themselves to unshielded Starships and wreak havoc amongst their internal systems. After slicing through whatever security measures were present, these Drones would seek to take command of the affected vessel. A portion of their pre-set directives was dedicated to pacifying or eliminating any hostile forces aboard an enemy ship, which could result in entire decks being depressurized and/or vented into space, with the possibility of wresting control of the external turrets away from the Command Deck finding itself on the table.
With these items in play, the Morai-Class Star Defender would be a potent addition to the naval prowess of the Galactic Alliance.
