DESCRIPTION

Technology revolving around generating artificial gravity, tractor beams, and their opposite number, the pressor beam, have been prevalent amongst the stars for centuries. It’s unknown when, or even where these technologies originated. However, there were many cultures and species that populated the stars, who claimed that the technology was theirs. Yet, out of the vast diversity that stretched across the galaxy, only one species managed to weaponize the forces of gravity and made it man-portable. It’s unknown when that breakthrough occurred, but the technology became more and more prevalent in recent years due to the successive Invasions by the First Order.

Through the technological ingenuity of the Squib - a race of miniature scavengers in the Outer Rim - they created a new type of gravitational weapon; called the Tensor beam. The weapon operated through a forced compression of tractor, and possibly pressor beams, to bombard their target with an unrelenting stream of energy; disrupting their target on the cellular level and eventually causing a gruesome death. While deadly in their own right, the Squib never felt like upscaling their technology - nor mounting such gravitational weaponry onto their starships. At least, from an outsider's perspective.

In addition to the weaponized forces of gravity, the Verpine managed to perfect the Repulsor field; utilizing the guided projector of artificially generated gravity to defend what fragments were left of their homeworld from colliding into one another.

With both technologies somehow falling into Thyrsian hands, the Sunborn sought a way to marry the two technologies together and create something new. Naturally, whatever it was they created would be mounted to their starships, and would ideally add an additional layer of protection against the resurgent Mass-driven, and Hypervelocity weapons. So, through several failed attempts, the Thyrsian Enclave on Centax II finally devised a viable working model that met their intended specifications. While it wasn’t as impressive as the fields generated by the Verpine Colony’s - the Reactionary Repulsor Beam Emitter would perfectly suit the needs of the myriad warships of the Golden Company.

In truth, their breakthrough came from the weaponized modification of a simple pressor beam emitter. While tractor beams generated an artificial force field that defied the forces of gravity and could guide targets, much like starships, towards a designated location. Pressor beams were the opposite of their Tractor beam cousins, able to push away their targets or even be utilized in containing a starship - should those reside within seek to sabotage their internal power plants. Thus, when the technologies behind tensor weapons were successfully married to pressor beams, the Thyrsian’s found themselves able to generate rapidly degenerating pulses of gravity in the depths of space. Through these artificially created waves of gravitic energy, Thyrsian Warships would be capable of pushing aside incoming projectiles, or smaller vessels, with relative ease.

However, as the pulses were rapidly degenerating, they wouldn’t provide a consistent measure of protection against repeating hypervelocity and mass-driven weaponry. This, sadly, was an unavoidable drawback to the Beam Emitter - as the module required time and power to accrue the required measure of power in order to achieve the desired result. Though the standard setting of the module was to rapidly discharge a trio of pulses into the void, this weakness could be offset by staggering the projections. Yet, in staggering the discharges, there came the unavoidable danger of being struck by repeating magnetically accelerated weaponry. So, it became a deadly game, played by the Thyrsian Naval Officer, of measuring the risks over the reward of living to fight another day.
