Master Vote: Cathul Thuku

So apologies for the delay in getting this thread up, new administration new responsibilities etc etc.

This thread is for the Masters of the GA to discuss and vote on the resolution to advance [member="Cathul Thuku"] to the rank of Master equivalent. I will stay out of the discussion unless needed as I am a relatively new Chaos FU. Here is a link to the character's thread tracker: http://starwarsrp.net/topic/67196-promotion-thread-tracker/?p=1411518

[member="Veino Garn"] I do realize that it will mean increased responsibility on multiple levels. But I do know that a high standard of proper character development is required, and such should be maintained.

OOC: I will have greater responsibility as it pertains to the accommodation of new members, and potentially of training new FU members, and that I will have a greater share of the image I project of the faction on an OOC level. I have to set the example for new members. But it also means that I will have more responsibilities among the faction.

IC: Although greater power (and also potentially authority) can be achieved as a master, masterhood is not about power as an end in itself. It's about what one does with it: I know there will be increased pressure to train other people, be it to take padawans all the way to knighthood, or to train more advanced powers to more advanced FUs. And also to take on more delicate missions or risky missions, or to be closer to the brunt of the action in group missions.

I voted yes, here is my reason;

I believe that people on Chaos taking "Masterhood" as the end all be all of development. I disagree with this view and don't actually think its all that sacred of a position.

This character has in my opinion had more than enough development to be called a Master by most standards, and I highly doubt they will stop being developed once they assume the position. Thus I voted yes.

My vote is going to be a no.

After reading and glancing through the threads provided, I don't believe the character has developed enough to be a Master yet. She hasn't really changed at all since she was an initiate beyond adding a few more powers onto her repertoire list, which seem to come out of the blue. Her interactions with other characters, mainly between different alts of yours, and how a thread or past events have shaped her journey with the Force and her life don't really feel like an evolution for the character.

My recommendation would be to focus on growing the character on a personal level, not by hopping into every thread you can and saying you're using a power here or there for points. Have her actually studying with other masters or going on journeys to discover something about herself or the Force would go a long way towards that, but that is just one example. Maybe once she has grown as a character my vote will change but as of now, it will remain a no.

It's a no from me, too. For pretty much the reasons [member="Taeli Raaf"] already elaborated on.

Master rank isn't the end of the road, but it's an IC as well as an OOC rank. I don't place that much emphasis on PvP or training threads, but I'd like to see some more char development.

I am going to go against what I usually do and actually vote before this goes up to staff, and I am going to vote Yes.

Cathul has put in a lot of work regardless of if this was with the Alliance or not. She has 846 posts (as of me writing this) and she has nearly 54 threads. Divide the amount of posts by threads and you end up with a number around 15, 16. Round that down to a drastic 10 to try and take OOC posts into account and you still have a person with an average of 10 posts per thread. That means a potential of 540/846 posts being IC. That to me is a good amount of posts per thread. That is 54 bare minimum development threads.

To insinuate that more development is needed in this case feels unwarranted. There are people out there who has gotten a master rank with far less commitment to the site or the faction as a whole. Even more there are peple who have a master rank yet has chosen to use the title "Master" as little more than an honorary thing. People such as [member="Mara D'Lessio Merrill"] comes to mind who, while in 'possession' of a Master rank, considers herself far from it IC due to her age.

So there we go. Two cents tossed in. It is a Yes from me.

Veino already asked the question i like to see asked.

Normally when a master vote goes in a faction, I like to see that the member is actually active in the faction and contributes.

Cathul the character has been in over almost twenty GA threads with at the very least 10 to 15 posts contributed. That's quite a bit of faction participation.

With GA being both NJO and independent Forcers, there isn't an actual ic creed that must be adhered to. That's the flexibility of the GA with the variety of force users we have.

Cathul can be deemed as as an independent in that as she isn't really NJO.

Now as to her temperment and development; I'll be honest, I don't get why cathul the writer or icly attempts to make the force far more difficult in methodology and use than it should be. At times I think she overthinks it with adding real world science to space magic. It honestly shouldn't be that hard and I'd recommend for her as a writer and a char to tone that back a bit. If she wants the respect of other masters try to take others advice on that. Cathul is an oddity to me as a character but so are other masters. Kaile, my other alt is one example.

Quirks are okay and the force is mysterious in how it works, but don't get too tunnel visioned in it.

There are plenty of threads and actual content in said threads to explore all of the stuff cathul has done. One can't deny that.

So ill vote yes. But this comes with a Caveat.

If she were to achieve master, I'd hope she'd take this advice with a grain of salt. Anyone can have the rank of master tag given enough time.

The respect of your fellow peers as a master is another thing in its entirety.

Congratulations at attaining Master.

However, here are concerns:

I have read the thread in the GA forum, and I really do see where a lot of the 'yes' are coming from. The writer and character are incredibly involved in board things, lots of threads, a lot of effort. Normally, that would be a master I can get behind.

But this is a writer who in the last couple of days had to be reminded that he can't *capture other people's characters without their consent*. And has a history of using other people's characters in ways they have not agreed to, flagrant meta-gaming, etc. Most times, there is no issue once asked to change things- they change them readily in most cases. But it just keeps happening.

One of the questions I ask myself when considering someone for master is- "Is this person able to teach the upcoming generation of characters". And seeing that kind of stuff makes me uncomfortable about how that question gets answered.

I would advise you [member="Cathul Thuku"] to keep this in mind and act in a manner that would not bring you into focus with other writers. Respect them in roleplay and they will respect you in turn.
