We could try to get all the major factions to go after the Bryn together. Have a big ole lobster boil

No thanks. There's a lot of story reasons behind why that wouldn't work out, especially given the big kerfluffle we just had on the board back in November when there was a plan for an SJC-TSE alliance to deal with the Bryn'adul, and how poorly everything involved in that turned out for everybody involved.

EDIT: As for those four options, personally, I'm sticking with the Judges and the rest of you can do whatever you want. As much as I loved the ORC/OPA, I'm really kinda "eh" on whether or not it comes back to major status, and I don't really care for the other options up there. If you want to do something and make it go major, just go make a faction and start pulling your friends and people into it, write something fun, get down to business.

Eek I’m sorry to hear that. I was not around for that. I did see it when it was being planned though. It seemed like a good idea in theory since the Bryn was a common enemy. Sad it didn’t work out.

As someone who isn’t really satisfied with the directions either the SJC or the GA have been going (note that I didn’t say I don’t like these faction stories, only that I’m not satisfied with them; the GA has gone full anti-hero and the SJC isn’t active enough anymore), I agree that there should be more good guys out and about. Such a faction’s natural opponents would probably be one of the Imperials, like the EE or the FO. The EE has a rebellion/resistance minor, for instance.

I feel like the ORC has been more or less replaced by Darkwire. Not exactly, of course, but the style of RP is similar. So I’m not really interested in resurrecting them.

I think we still need to clarify what it is we all want to do. So if you could vote :

A) Republic Faction

B) Rogue Jedi Faction

C) Home brewed light side

D) We get with the Judges and do the judgy thing

Unless we get another Republic, which I might be able to help out with a tiny bit, since I absolutely adore the High Republic set-up we see in the novel and the older Republics before the Prequels, I've got one that already does the other three. Though, by doing Judgy things, we sit in in seedy cantinas and make fun of rich people fashion

Alert. Alert. Alert. Tangent ahead.

I have been mulling over how becoming too light side, to the point of light side doctrine enforcement, would be an interesting good guys become bad guys idea. I could see Ala falling for that.

However given what I have read of some Jedi's activity towards kids etc....there is already enough good gone bad going around.

Exactly lol. Our choices are currently “LS faction whose current narrative has them justifying the killing of children” and “LS faction that does not kill children but doesn’t do much to begin with”. It’s a very strange time to be a good guy here on Chaos.

For the OPA to return the writers involved would have to start giving a shit and be regularly active. I'm not going to solo push another major faction so please stop asking even as a joke. Nimdok is right, Darkwire fulfills the faction's former niche. I see no reason to retread that ground simply for nostalgia's sake. Limping along as a major with middling activity is perfectly tenable for more casual community members and a waking nightmare for the people in charge.

If lightsiders want more variety in their choice of major factions, more lightsiders need to step up and make that happen instead of just wishing it were so.

Okay so, I know pretty much nothing about faction dynamics around here and such, I'm just going to make a suggestion.

Why not start off with a refugee dynamic?

Wars between the Sith and NIO, the Bryn doing their slaughterin' thing, there are going to be countless people trying to escape from all that, hoping to find safety. While they might settle in SJC and GA worlds, the Confederacy, etc, there might be enough to try and make a better life for themselves somewhere in the Outer Rim/Unknown Regions. Combine that with disaffected light-siders searching for something different than the Jedi Orders that exist, you could have a small-scale 'good guy' faction with potential to grow.

I guess a major problem would be the lack of a specific thing to attract interest, it doesn't quite have the same pull as a Republic or a different Jedi Order or what-have-you.

Just thought I'd share that idea, sorry if it's completely off from what you wanted. :)

Not enough "good guy" factions? Really?

As mentioned the GA and SJC exist. There is nothing stopping anyone from writing a NFU politician or whatever in any of these factions, if Jedi aren't your thing. In my opinion it doesn't make much sense for a bunch of characters to start a new Republic-type faction when there already exist places that seek to uphold these ideals.

Also, the First Order may look scary, but it's all window-dressing. They're functionally the same as the GA in terms of their core values being humanitarianism. The only difference is their methods of implementation.

I have Lori as the face of the Eclipse Rebellion that readily combats the EE. It's great as we have a specific enemy to target/annoy/sabotage. There's political intrigue too as the war is starting to include outside factions as well. Would it ever grow to something bigger? I don't know. but the EE are great to work with (ignore the fact that I'm a staff member :p ) and would be well suited for an opponent.

The Eclipse Rebellion has NFU's, FU's, scoundrels and more. We even have our own Force Enclave for those wanting to learn and study.

I have been running about the idea of another character, but need a hook. A political/subverse type might be on the books. If this empire of eternity is all that it is deemed to be....maybe.
