Caarlyle Rausgeber Caarlyle Rausgeber - While I do see where you're coming from, looking back there have been times where the Galactic Alliance (the old one), and the Galactic Republic were both standing Major Factions on the map in the past, and they both seemed to do rather well in their own right. The Republic is also a massive name in Star Wars and is always going to draw people in, similarly to the Galactic Alliance's name and appeal. Between the lore and various social circles both IC and OOC, I don't see why people shouldn't try to go with it if that's where their muse is taking them.

That said, I don't mind what sort of "light side" or "good guy" faction comes about. House Arenais is all about fighting the good fight :) Seeing the Outer Rim Coalition make a comeback would also be sick, whether it's the ORC or the OPA. There was always a vibe they hit on the mark that other factions couldn't when it came to the smuggler/criminal/rogue sort of muse.

Whatever you guys decide, I'll be eager to see what comes of it!

You do raise a fair point. And admittedly, the name Republic has been rather poisoned from my POV. When I entered the board, it was at the very end of the Republic-One Sith conflict. And the salt resonating from there was palpable. So I never really got to see any 'positivity' if you will, from it. It never manifested any threads of any political intrigue. At least in memory.

I don't have any beef with those who start a Republic. But I'm also a fan of consistency. And in my view, starting a third light side faction, one similar to the already blooming Galactic Alliance only serves to weaken both factions. A house divided if one will.

Zark San Tekka Zark San Tekka I tentatively raise my hand for the reintroduction of ORC. Only on the caveat there is less space whale reproductive fluid used in combat situations.

I agree, there should be a good-aligned faction on the map tailored to those who don't want to write traditional Jedi. ORC filled that void nicely until it went minor. There are of course parts to play in both GA and SJC for non-Force users, but they are still heavily focused on Jedi business (go back to your drinks).

If there is to be a third lightside faction on the map I think it should cater more to those unaffiliated with Jedi, or at least lean towards more rogue Jedi who still want to do good but without having to report to a council or government. Which is basically what the Outer Rim Coalition was all about.

So, I know I'm kind of an ultimate bad guy right now [what with all the genociding] so maybe I shouldn't be telling lightsiders what to do - but I totally understand lightsiders not wanting to be aligned with SJC or GA.

Whilst both have fantastic writers, they've also done things that some lightsiders might not agree with.
I think part of what is needed on Chaos is a 'no bs' lightside faction. In my opinion people might want a Faction that doesn't sit idle or make deals with dark siders.

Or simply one that doesn't have the history attached to it that the current two do. Nothing wrong with making something new if it brings something to the table.

Your best bet is probably to find a bad guy faction in search of someone to play as a foil and go from there. There's always room for another good guy faction, but getting one off the ground tends to be easier if you have a clear goal and the promise of stuff to do. Plus, you can avoid falling into the trap of OOC ugliness if you've got a designated bad guy that actually wants to play ball.

Agree with all of this. Finding a group that both sides can bounce off narratively would be grand. It would require a double interest check since it would be two groups that may be writing with one another. And of course the narrative shouldn't be totally dependent on them either, allowing for both sides to have independence in their faction narrative while still having an IC focus for larger antagonist storylines.

Thus far, outside of the standard "Sith bad, we're also gonna have to deal with the Bryn'adul aren't we" sort of stuff (although I haven't gotten around to the second given the territorial distance from where the Judges have always been based), we don't have any specific rivals; if this were the old days the First Order (and really any imperial faction) would clearly be a rival group, but that's not how things are shaping up to be at the moment, and Cotan's actively trying to build some alliances to help keep the galaxy secure. Kinda like a "Luke Skywalker working with Gilad Pellaeon" deal.

Now, I'm sure at some point that'll turn into more of an in-character mostly-friendly rivalry, but the current idea he's working with is "we can't really get so hung-up on whether or not imperialism itself is inherently so terrible that we have to fight it at every step when there's bigger fish to fry; let's work with them for now, and try to turn them towards something better later on, rather than just having a massive free-for-all through the galaxy."

We could try to get all the major factions to go after the Bryn together. Have a big ole lobster boil
