GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Unit Name: Holy Knights Infantry Division
  • Affiliation:
  • Classification: Space Marines
  • Description: The Infantry Division of the Holy Knight caste of the Navis Sacra Religion is the most common type of personal combatant you will see in a Navis Sacra deployment. They have very distinct equipment that is standard amongst the Holy Knights, which makes them easily identifiable. They are most easily identified by their Nephilim Armour, and their Jetpacks.
While individual personalities may vary, they typically hold themselves with a pious dignity of those tasked with defending the values and tenets of the Navis Sacra Faith. They can joke and relax when they are on leave or off duty, but they take their roles in the Holy Knight Caste very seriously and maintain a dedicated sense of discipline.
Their armour is alive with the Angel Navis Operating System AI installed, so sometimes Knights can be overheard “talking to themselves”, when in fact, they are talking to the armour.
They refer to all ships and spacesuits as “Angels”. Some even give their armour suits names, since they are sentient.
COMBAT INFORMATION:
Like any group of living beings, the Holy Knights Infantry Division is capable of creative solutions to unusual problems, but they do practice an array of standard tactics. Some examples of these tactics that one might see them use on the battlefield are:
  • Phalanx Maneuver - Holy Knight standard phalanx man maneuver consists of three lines of troops: the shield wall, the scattergun line, and the rifle line. This formation is used when the Knights are fighting barrel-to-barrel with a numerous foe in front of them.
    • The front line - the shield wall - projects a shield from their forearm and keeps a sidearm ready in the other hand in case the enemy figures out how to get too close.
    • The scattergun line, is exactly what it sounds like; they have their LPD-66 Flashfire Blaster Rifle set to the scattergun configuration and stand ready to blast anything that gets too close to the shield wall. The scattergun line shoots from a kneeling position to allow for the rifle line to shoot over their heads
    • The rifle line, as with the scattergun line, is also what it sounds like. They stand higher than the scattergun line and shoot at distant targets through gaps in the shields with their LPD-66 Flashfire Blaster Rifles set to the rifle configuration.
    • When a shield breaks in the shield line, troops from the scattergun, rifle, and shield line all rotate positions to maintain the shield wall.
  • Square Shield Wall - same formation as the phalanx maneuver, but the phalanx lines wrap around to form a square that can defend from all angles. This is often considered a last resort maneuver when the knights are surrounded and at a last stand.
  • Shield, Thrust, Charge - this maneuver is used to rush an enemy line. The knights hold their shields out in front of them, then use jetpacks to charge right into the enemy lines.
  • Leapfrog Cover Advance/Retreat - this is a very typical tactic where half the troops make use of available cover and provide covering fire while the other half of the troops advance or retreat. Both groups alternate between covering and moving. This is typically done in small unit engagements.
  • Trench Warfare - In planetside action, it is common for these knights to dig many rows of trenches to provide cover for themselves to reduce the toll on their shields and soldiers.
  • Open Melee Sword And Shield- when unit cohesion has been lost and the engagement has turned into a total melee brawl, the knights will switch to various styles of “sword and shield” martial arts forms. The various forms are:
    • One arm is set to shield mode, the other is set to blade mode.
    • Both arms set to blade mode.
    • One arm set to shield mode, the other with nothing (if one of the shields is depleted)
    • One arm set to blade mode the other with nothing (again, if only if one shield is depleted)
  • Zero “G” tactics - in zero gravity environments, the knights are trained to use all of the above aforementioned tactics in zero gravity variants, except for Trench Warfare.
    • The Phalanx Maneuver uses vertical walls instead of lines.
    • The Square Shield Wall becomes a “Cube Shield Wall”.
    • Leapfrog Advance/Retreat is used in a 3D environment instead of a 2D one.
    • Knights are trained to use Sword/Shield Martial Arts very well in zero gravity environments.
  • Force Abilities (Force User Units Only): None
Strengths:
  • Combat Protection - while the Holy Knights are not infallible, they have many layers of protection on the battlefield, like shields and armour.
  • Incredibly Accurate Marksmanship - the armour, weapons, and training that these soldiers receive is all tailored to give them an edge in small arms marksmanship with computerized assistance, and training to use it all effectively.
  • All Environments - the Nephilim marine armour is designed to aid troops in a variety of harsh atmospheric conditions, and they are supplied with survival gear to aid them whenever planetside.
  • Orbit to Ground - the knights are trained and equipped to be able to enter atmosphere and fly to a planet’s surface from orbit without the aid of a landing vessel.
  • The Third Dimension - the jetpack gives the knights the option to make use of three dimensional space, whereas most typical foot soldiers can move within two dimensional areas on foot.
Weaknesses:
  • Tight spaces - the bulky armour and jetpack prevents the Holy Knight Infantry from being able to efficiently traverse small tunnels and ventilation shafts.
  • Shields use up arms - when a knight has a shield active, it is projected from an arm, so this limits the knight to one-handed weapons in the other hand.
  • Anti-Starfighter emplacements - when flying by jetpack or dropping in from orbit, these troops are very vulnerable to anti-fighter emplacements.
  • No vehicle support - since the Holy Knights are primarily trained for EVA reentry drops and starship corridor combat, they are not assigned dedicated vehicle support. This puts them at a considerable disadvantage against armoured vehicles and air support.
  • Religious Adherances - The Holy Knight Infantry Corps of the Navis Sacra Religion, are very devout in their faith. When they see a “non-Angel” cause vulgar harm to an “Angel”, it can cause them to have a very emotional response. Their reverence for Angels can be used in psychological warfare by a tactician that is good at that sort of thing.
  • Stuck On The Ground - when the Knights achieve orbit-to-ground EVA orbital drops, they are typically cut off from support, supplies, and extractions unless air support can reach them. In this regard, it is very easy to cut them off from support and force a surrender.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Holy Knight Infantry Division was made to be the bread and butter of the Holy Knights Warrior Caste. This division can be found anywhere the Nomadic Peoples Coalition has a presence. It was developed by Daro Roz’yrn, Omar Dobson, and Andrew Lonek as the first of many divisions that were to defend the interests of the Nomadic Peoples Coalition and accommodate the sensibilities of the Navis Sacra Religion. They have been divided up and deployed to many assigned postings such as warships, outposts, stations, and depots and are the most ubiquitous army division in the Nomadic Peoples Coalition.

The first members of this division were originally members of the Elysium Marine Corps garrison that was stationed on Damascus Station at the time of creating the Nomadic Peoples Coalition. When Andrew Lonek, Daro Roz’yrn, and Omar Dobson formed the Holy Knights of the Navis Sacra, they already had a large pool of ex-Elysium marines to draw from. They used their collective skills and training to help shape the professional fighting skills of this new division, and went from there. The newly enlisted members that joined after the formation of this division were able to receive this training and expand on it. It was to be assumed then that if this division was a success, that they would use what they learned from it and form more divisions, such as heavy troopers, scouts, shock troopers, and much, much more.
