OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Unit Name: Globex Security Officers
  • Affiliation: Globex Security Division
  • Classification: Security / Law Enfocement
  • Description: As a whole, the Globex Security Division is based around the utilisation of droids, but organics still have a role to play, albeit not generally a particularly risky one. GSOs tend to focus on social duties over looming near doors and patrolling streets - when they do take to the streets to patrol, this is far more likely to involve friendly chats with people in the neighbourhood than, say, actually arresting anyone.
COMBAT INFORMATION
  • Unit Size: Large
  • Unit Availability: Common
  • Unit Experience: Trained
  • Equipment: GSOs are normally clad in protective uniforms and may have access to personal shield generators or even armour. They tend to be armed only with a PIKI Ionised Stun Pistol - they do not normally carry stun batons due to their 'association with violence'. They are more often than not accompanied by Eyebots and a variety of droids, notably Scions, Squires, and Justitias.
  • Combat Function: GSOs specialise in investigation, prevention, and de-escalation. While they are armed, the actual violence is meant to be applied by droids; the Globex Corporation does not believe in risking the lives of its employees. As a result, they are very inexperienced as far as combat is concerned - despite this, maiming or Force forbid killing them is a terrible idea, as it is likely to trigger an escalated response.
    • GSOs generally have a sound understanding of tactical theory combined with martial arts training (focused on incapacitating without injury) and decent marksmanship. Their combat training is more 'practice with friends' than 'tough military training', however.
STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
  • Broad Skillsets: GSOs are trained in first aid, forensics, law, negotiation tactics, linguistics, and more.
  • Nine-to-Five: GSOs are generally no more willing to 'die for the cause' than your average office worker.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Globex Security Officers are highly trained (but not particularly dangerous) security personnel that are always outnumbered many times over by the variety of security droids employed by the Globex Security Division. Their training lasts for three years (including a year 'in the field') and makes full use of mind-machine interfaces to facilitate learning - thus their impressively broad skillsets. Many have previous academic degrees.

Whether stationed in office complexes, watching over the resorts and cities of Arcadia, or overseeing Globex-run prisons, GSOs are trained to go out of their way to be likeable; they are permitted (nay, encouraged!) to desist from issuing fines where a droid would have done so, so as to appear as nice and approachable as possible. That said, a paper trail must always exist - the fine is simply noted as 'commuted by discretion'.

That said, not all GSOs are as harmless - 'Operators' are trained specifically to control intelligence and security operations in a manner comparable to but simpler than Globex's Data Savants. These are far more likely to have 'seen combat', albeit through remote control functions.

As usual this is a good submission, but I do not understand why you are linking to one of your subs in the image credit. Check the word source next to deletd.

If the image or source no longer exists then you'll need to pull the image or find another source. At any rate it seems you may have messed up your link there.

Judah Lesan Judah Lesan

That was entirely intentional. If the art was currently posted anywhere, I would have linked it.

The artist deleted his ArtStation account and does not appear to have posted it elsewhere, the best I could do was find his Instagram account. The link to the previous submission was included to show the original (now broken) sourcing in an approved submission, as that is the best 'evidence' I have that Aaron Yama is the right artist. I can simply make it 'Unknown Artist' if you would prefer that, but this seems as good as it'll get.

I'm not entirely sure I understand what you mean by "pull the image or find another source". Per the template "Link to the web page where it can be found and state the name of the original artist if possible.", emphasis mine.

In this case, I linked where I found it (via the Approved Lorinia submission, since I didn't want to add any broken links) and found what I presume to be the artist's Instagram account via a now-private Instagram account. This may be his new ArtStation account, but the art is not posted there.

If you can no longer adequately source the image according to the image credit guideline found here then you will need to find a different image you can source.

I suggest doing a reverse search on the image. If you cannot find it then tag me and I’ll see what I can do if. If we both cannot get a source for this then we’ll have to use a different image.

You do have it linked in the submission. Where did you get the direct link you currently have?

Judah Lesan Judah Lesan

Neither Google Image Search nor TinEye can find a current source, I already tried. As already noted I already know who the artist is.

The artist deleted one of his ArtStation accounts, but I know without a sliver of a doubt what his name is since I've used the art before. Given that the now private Instagram account has the same username as the old ArtStation - namely 'ajyama' - the odds of this being a different 'Aaron Yama' are low bordering on nonexistent. As such, the artist has been identified, which is the main goal of sourcing images, no?

I'm not entirely sure how to satisfy your requirements. My current direct link is simply to a hosting site; I find that using links from ArtStation and the like for submissions is a poor idea precisely because artists delete or hide either individual art pieces or their accounts on occasion.

I will note that 'Unknown Artist' or the like has been accepted for images hosted on Reddit, Pinterest, and the like, if the artist cannot be found.

This is explicitly permitted per the rules you referenced, albeit as a last resort, see 'Can't Find An Image Credit'.

In this case, and to cite the image credit guidelines you referenced: "What is most important is that the image is sourced in such a way that people can quickly identify which image belongs to what original creator. As long as this can easily be seen the credit on the submission is fine." Emphasis mine. I can provide the name of the creator, I can provide the name of the art, and I can provide a current account that is in all likelihood his.

I'm not entirely sure how it's possible to be more thorough than that, short of contacting the artist directly, which seems a bizarre requirement given that using indirect sources is permissible as a last resort, per the rules you cited, as mentioned above.

Firstly, thank you both for being so very thorough. I can see that AMCO has tried his best, but, I can also see where Judah got confused with the links. I might not have understood why they were linked that way either without close inspection. Rather than make this take any longer - Let me help out. Image Sourcing is a pain, but, we can see that a lot of effort had been taken to try and provide credit to this author.

The part of the help guide I would look at is:

Can't Find An Image Credit
"The Last Resort"
"I've spent forever looking and I've gone belly up."

Once in a blue moon, you might not be able to find the original creator or artist. If you've followed the steps above, such as using Google, Tiny Eye, asking for help, and you still hit a wall? You may do one of a few things to show that you tried your very best.
  • All other efforts should be exhausted first. At least, try.
  • A Codex Admin or Judge may ask you to change the wording, or, they might be able to find a better source for you during the submission review.
If all else fails, under Image Credit, you may use options such as Pinterest, Imgur, Wallpaper Sites, or the odd site you found it on that doesn't quite match up, etc... We typically don't allow hosting/wallpaper sites because anyone can add anything to them whether they own it or not. In this case, we've tried everything else, and this is as close as we can get.

Lastly, note next to the link that you were "Unable to Find Exact Credit" so that the Judges are aware.

What is provided is actually better than a Pinterest or Imgur as we have at least credited the actual author to the best of our ability and even provided their Instagram. You've both done your duty on this one - Over and above. If it comes up in the future perhaps just elaborate a little at the top with "Unable to provide exact credit because the Artist deleted their Art Station, but it was approved previously here" or something to those effects. You can choose the wording of course. Just a little something to add clarity.

But, as it stands, the burden of providing the best credit possible has been met.
