She was running out of money.

The galaxy was a dangerous place for a Sithspawn and so far, Sisserith had been relatively lucky after Loovria. She had managed to hitch a ride on a freighter off-world a few days after the battle, the pilot of which was fortunately blind to her dark side nature, regarding her as a “cute little thing” who had fallen on hard times. She had made sure to hide her weapons from his leering gaze, keeping him distracted as well as she could before finally arriving on Teth. While Sisserith had made sure to loot as much as she could feasibly carry from the bodies of the human defenders in Skako, Teth was expensive, by her standards.

She needed money. Or work that paid money. Either would work, really.

Fortunately, it just so happened that people were hiring.

Clad in her bodysuit, albeit stripped of its utility belt and gauntlets so that she was less conspicuously dangerous, the sign on the street post immediately caught the tiny Sithspawn’s eyes, compelling her to approach. In no uncertain terms, it advertised openings on the crew of the Blue Bell, drawing her eyes with big, bolded words that promised spoils in abundance. In the Scar Worlds, where crime, skullduggery, and other illicit activities ran rampant, it was little surprise to see pirates advertising in the open. Given the lack of a major power in the region, it was up to the local authorities to keep order and with corruption miring the workings of the state, they weren’t always effective.

As she pored over the poster, a powerful breeze came unbidden, blowing Sisserith’s short cyan hair into her eyes as the sign flapped in the wind.

That was when she saw the two posters sitting underneath it.

The first was a similar advertisement for openings on another ship, a vessel called the Ragged Edge. After skimming it, Sisserith jumped with a sharp grunt and ripped the two posters off the street sign in the process, so she could see the poster underneath them. Unfortunately, the Seseli was too short to hold the two posters up while she read the one underneath both of them, making the action necessary. Immediately, Sissertith realized that it had been there first, if the water damage was any indication. This one advertised positions open on the Midnight Kyber, a name which Sisserith found that she liked. However, as she skimmed over the poster, Sisserith’s eyes went wide as she read the text at the bottom.

Without further delay, Sisserith sprinted off towards the nearby cantina, desperate to arrive on time for the interviews.

The pirate lord sat idly staring at one of the dancers as the candidate on front of her showered her with stories of his exploits. A dashing pirate, a woman in every port, the usual stuff. Omg Thrace, why did you suggest doing this, Cass was tired and grumpy and never enjoyed sitting doing these interviews, she had always been a 'tap on the shoulder' type of captain, she had been so preoccupied the the family and the black sun lately that she hadn't had chance to get to the pirate bars to let anyone wow her. And now this? The guy might as well be reading children's pirate stories for how clichéd they were. Then something pricked her ears?

"First officer on the Witches Boudoir you say? Good posting that." she knew the Boudoir's first mate, this wasn't her. "Then you must know Dispara Na'Gara ? I hear she is a right c###" Cass grinned as she gave the man one chance to back out of this lie.

The poor man's eyes lit up as he saw his in, get on the good side of her by bad mouthing her 'enemy' "Oh, the worst, knocked a couple of her teeth out only a couple of months ago, she knows her place, piece of filth."

Cass shook her head, stupid, stupid, stupid. "you need to be better at this, my men will show you out...

Sweetie, can you show this nice gentleman the door please, watch him though, apparently he knows Dizzy"

The man's eyes widened as Cass used the informal and clearly friendly nickname for her best friend. Cass itched her ear as the men led him away. The two pirate escorts knew this was a signal, this interviewee would be lucky to be alive by the time they were done with him.

"For Ashlas sake!" She cursed as she sucked through the straw that led into her beautiful red and black cocktail. That was the last scheduled interview for the day. She would enjoy her drink, maybe get a couple more lap dances and then head off. She leaned over to the barman and gestured towards one of the dancers, suggesting she be sent over shortly.

Her train of thought was broken though by the door bashing open in a hurry and a shock of blue hair.

She ran as fast as her semi-digitigrade legs could carry her.

Weaving between the legs of taller beings, running down alleyways, and at one point, sliding under a landspeeder, the tiny Seseli made record time as she made her way to the cantina, sprinting faster than a groundcar at brief intervals, where possible. After a little over five minutes of running, she arrived at her destination. Wiping the sweat from her pale brow, Sisserith took a deep breath and moved inside, the doors sliding open to let her in the cantina as she did.

“Are these the umm…Midnight Kyber interviews?” She blurted out, before her better judgment took over. “Sorry I’m late!” The Sithspawn looked to the woman with red and black hair, who seemed to be the leading figure in the room.

Was she the captain?

“I uhh…just learned about this.” Sisserith admitted. “I’m not a pirate but umm…I’d like to become one! Are there any positions open?” She asked.

“I have experience in intergalactic travel!” Sisserith continued.

A lie, it was not.

Cass looked at the unusual creature in front of her, approaching her at the table, verh curious, she didn't recognise the species and she was very well travelled. Not that it mattered, but her interest was piqued.

"sure, this is the interviews, I thought I was done and was going enjoy the entertainment a little." she put her finger up for a moment and spoke to a beautiful young woman that was brought over. "apologies, I have a late interviewee if you want to come back in a bit, ill make sure you are well rewarded"

Then she looked back at Sisserith . "I'm Cass, or Captain Gemini. I suppose the first question is what's your deal? Why do you want to be a pirate? If you're a kid that just wants to play dress up, then gotta warn you, it's hard work up there."

She smiled at the woman, Cass typically came across a friendly and likeable, but when selecting people who her and her crews life could depend on, she had to be serious.

"then, once you tell me why me? The next question would be why you?" there was a number of roles she was trying to fill, but she wanted to see what the skills on offer were today.

The demeanour of the new interviewer was very interesting and she was beginning to wonder whether her luck might have changed for the day. She gestured over at the barman who brought a bottle of run to the table and she poured two glasses, offering one to her guest. She had to be serious, didn't mean she couldn't be nice too.

Taking in the pulchritudinous, scantily-clad Qilin dancer that strode over to the red and black-haired woman, Sisserith immediately knew that this was no small-time pirate. Then, quickly pulling her gaze away from the Qilin, Sisserith set her eyes back to the captain, who was beautiful in her own, mischievous manner, though her serious tone told the Seseli that at the moment, the woman was focused on work. That was good knews for her, because it meant that she was being given serious consideration. More than once over the last two days, Sisserith had been laughed out of the room by the employer, while attempting to find work. The Seseli had been prepared for the same outcome here, so she was pleasantly surprised to find that Cass was willing to give her the opportunity to present her case.

“Thank you Captain Gemini, for the consideration.” The Sithspawn began, as she took a seat at the table. The barman was cognizant enough to offer her a tall stool, in the place of the oversized chair. “My name is Sisserith. My…” The Seseli paused, choosing her words carefully. “...clan was left behind by our chief and trapped in enemy territory. We were decimated. I was one of the few who managed to escape.” She explained.

“I’ve lived the life before. Not necessarily as a pirate or a spacer, but I understand the work that goes into getting by at the fringes.” While Sisserith hated the implication that she was a kid, by this woman’s standards, perhaps she was. The Seseli matured quickly compared to other sapient species. And yet, a part of her wondered how the captain could sense her relative youth. She didn’t look that young, did she?

Fortunately, the barman was cognizant enough to offer the tiny Seseli a tall stool after delivering the two drinks. Taking her seat at the table, Sisserith accepted the offered drink and took a small sip of the rum. As the scent of alcohol met her nostrils, Sisserith knew that the concentration of alcohol was meant for much larger beings. It would likely have her on the floor within thirty minutes, if she drank it too quickly.

“I’m a scout, but I specialize in wetwork and taking down high-value targets. I also have skills with fixing blasters and the like.” She continued. “I can do more than just handle myself in a fight.” The implication that she could engage in offensive engagements was obvious, but Sisserith wondered if the woman would believe her.

Murdered family, not an uncommon story amongst pirates, the life worked for the lonely, or those trying to flee something, maybe both. It did bode well that she had no connections, "This chief character? You done with him then, or is unfinished business? Your answer doesn't matter, we've all got our skeletons, but it helps to know if we might have someone on our tails.... or hey, if I like you we might just go and pay him a visit on your behalf." The woman was very interesting to Cass, her demeanor, her look, fascinating really.

Cass laughed at the mention of wet work and high value targets and one of her hands moved subtely to her pistol, her tone took a strangely less serious, but more direct tone. "Sounds like bounty hunting to me, girl shows up unannounced, eager to meet me? usually it's polite to buy a girl a drink before you ask her to dance, but this time I can make an exception." she looked the woman in the eyes, trying to size her up, running her tongue across her teeth, if the woman went for gun now it would be a mistake. The room was tense, and the nearby Qilin girl had stopped dancing and left the stage, not even stopping to pick up her underwear.

"and now it looks like you might have ruined my after party too.... your next works better be good little lady."

Sisserith blinked.

She watched as all the eyes in the room seemed to hone in on her, while the dancers quickly scampered backstage, shuttering the doors in their wake. Her initial thought was that she had been led into some kind of trap for a bounty. However, the tiny Seseli knew she wasn't important or even dangerous enough to merit this kind of response. Sure, she had been part of the savage horde that had invaded Loovria, but she had just been a foot soldier in that battle, a small, insignificant one at that.

Then, she decided that this woman was a Sithspawn Huntress or some self-righteous crusader who had lured her here to kill her in a private setting.

Without her bodysuit, energy shield, or grenades, the situation wasn’t exactly in her favor.

“Uhh…he disappeared.” Sisserith said in response to the “Captain’s” initial question, straightening her posture as her eyes scanned over the room, looking for anything that she could use to her advantage, no matter how minuscule.

“So, what tipped you off? And don't just say, 'the Force'. I'm sure you've hunted plenty of Sithspawn and I'm just another on your list.”

Wait, was this woman a Sithspawn Huntress? Sisserith’s eyes went wide as she realized that maybe she had been a little too hasty in her judgment, especially when she reconsidered the woman's words in her head.

Sisserith realized that she might have just made a bad situation worse.

Interesting? The woman in front of her seemed tense? More tense than most bounty hunters she had come across? Her hand stroked her pistol grip but the sensation she was getting from the woman was more flight than fight? Has she misunderstood.

“So, what tipped you off? And don't just say, 'the Force'. I'm sure you've hunted plenty of Sithspawn and I'm just another on your list.”

"what?" she asked as she saw the woman's eyes widened. "I don't care if you're a... wait?..... you came to me?" she eased her hand on her blaster and her shoulders shook slightly with a bemused laugh.

"so not a bounty hunter then? So what are you? Assassin, gun for hire?" she put her hand on the table in front of her, beginning to relax a little. He slid a data pad across the table to the woman.

"it appears we have crossed our wires, but you have me intrigued, so let's change the subject and discuss business, agreed?"

The pad had a list of terms, basic ship rules payment schemes a selection of job roles with varying cut rates. It seemed more like an employment contract for a legitimate business than for a pirate ship, Cass was organised. The positions in the crew could be scrolled by moving an image of the Kyber about, different department heads, roles, ranks. Some had anonimised pictures of assigned crew members, others were simply blocked. "have a look, see if there is anything takes your fancy."

She turned away and invited one of the barmaids over with a drink before turning back to the interviewee. "So a Sithspawn? Interesting, met a few but they are usually enslaved, what is your story?"

“Uhh…what?” Sisserith echoed in turn. However, it quickly became apparent that they had both been confused. The tiny Sithspawn quickly realized that she should have led better when calling herself a specialist in wetwork, but she was relieved to know that it had only been a misunderstanding, albeit a dangerous one.

“I guess an assassin…” Sisserith trailed. She had killed people before. So that made her an assassin…

Right?

“Femme fatale, girl with guns, uhh…whatever fits under that definition.” The Sithspawn continued, before crossing her legs, a relieved sigh escaping from her lips as she did.

From there, Sisserith picked up the datapad and glanced over the terms and conditions, crew ratings, and payment schemes in relative silence. Without a doubt, it was more organized and professional than anything else she had seen, to the point that it almost made the Sithspawn feel underqualified, especially since she had turned up for the interview without a prior reservation. Nevertheless, Sisserith quickly chose one of the open slots on the assault team, along with a secondary rating as a technician.

"So a Sithspawn? Interesting, met a few but they are usually enslaved, what is your story?"

“Oh, my story?” Sisserith paused, her tone almost confused. That wasn’t a question anyone had ever asked her, since she left Loovia. “It’s uhh…well, not really that interesting, but…let’s just say I wasn’t lying when I said I had experience in intergalactic travel.” She began with a soft smile.

Then, Sisserith explained in moderate detail who she was and where she came from, starting from the very beginning. She was a Loimisa Seseli, a species of Sithspawn who originated from the Forn satellite galaxy. She had been cast into existence inside a spawning pit on Margakh IV, in a litter of eight others, gestated over a period of three hours. Like all members of her species, she had emerged from the pit fully aware and cognizant, lacking only her horns. Then, not an hour after she was born, a weapon was thrust into her hands and she was made to fight her siblings for the simple right to exist. By the end of it, the litter of eight was down to two, with Sisserith one of the two left standing, covered in deep gashes and suffering a broken arm, but still alive. Indeed, the Sithspawn delivered it in a somewhat dry and matter-of-fact tone, almost as if she were talking about the weather. It went without saying that she had been surprised to learn that in this galaxy, babies from most, if not all human and near-human species were helpless and fed on their mothers for months.

She had been alive for months.

Less than a week later, while her horns were still fresh and bleeding on her skull, she had been summoned to this galaxy by a self-styled Darth of some crumbling Sith Order, along with 2000 others. Unfortunately, their Master had proven weak and the Seseli had quickly slain him only a few minutes after the ritual.

However, in doing so, they had cut themselves off from the Forn galaxy.

Woops.

Nevertheless, the survivors looted their former master’s assets and linked up with the Bloody Iron Sunz, a Graug and Ologuren warband who had only spared them because of their value as scouts. Unfortunately, that arrangement had proven disastrous, since the monsters had taken to periodically eating them. After a disaster during the Siege of Loovria, which resulted in the Supreme Khaan disappearing and seemingly abandoning his horde to its fate, the Seseli had been decimated. Sisserith had managed to survive by hiding out in the wilderness for a few days, before securing a transport off-world, leading her here, to Teth.

“And uhh…that’s it.” Sisserith finished. “I think I covered it all, but if you have any questions…”
