GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Qilin
  • Designation: Sentient
  • Origins: Unknown Regions
  • Average Lifespan: 500-750 GSY
    1-5 (Child)
  • 5-18 (Adolescent)
  • 18-500 (Adult)
  • 500-750 (Elder)
  • 750+ (Ancient, Very Rare)

[*]Estimated Population: Scattered, ~5,750,000
[*]Description: The Qilin are a race of mono-horned Near-Humans who are admired for their physical beauty. Aside from the distinctive horn which sits near the top of their foreheads, the Qilin are also predominantly female.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type I
  • Average Height of Adults:
    .92 meters, 36.22 inches (Females)
  • 1.91 meters, 75.20 inches (Males)

[*]Average Length of Adults: N/A
[*]Skin color: Virtually all Colors of the Spectrum
[*]Hair color: Virtually all Colors of the Spectrum
[*]Distinctions: The most distinct and iconic feature of the Qilin is a single horn which sits near the top of their foreheads. The appearance of these horns vary heavily from one individual to another, with most, if not all specimens bearing slightly curved, translucent, smooth, jagged, and/or patterned horns. Horns may also be decorated with jewelry or tattoos, which may or may not hold special significance. On average, female Qilin typically possess far lower waist-hip ratios and proportionally wider hips than those of other humanoid females. Conversely, male Qilin are almost always larger and more broad of shoulder than typical humanoid males. In addition, their horns are larger than those of their female counterparts. Qilin may also be born with pointed ears similar to those of an Elzeri, rather than round ones.
[*]Races: N/A
[*]Force Sensitivity: High
  • 50% of Females have more than 7000 Midi-chlorians per Cell
  • 25% of Males have more than 7000 Midi-chlorians per Cell

Strengths:
  • Long Lifespan: Qilin have a long natural lifespan, which on average lasts for five-hundred years for non-Force-sensitive specimens and more than two-hundred years longer for Force-sensitive individuals. For most of their life, Qilin retain the relative appearance of a young adult. Although the age of onset of physical aging varies among individuals, it usually occurs roughly fifty or more years before death.
  • Physically Imposing Males: Qilin males are physically imposing. On average, they are slightly taller than baseline Human males. However, the large and often times jagged horns of male Qilin makes them an intimidating sight. Unlike their diminutive female counterparts, male Qilin make for excellent fighters given their natural advantages in physical power.
  • Limited Regenerative Capabilities: The Qilin are very resilient to long term disability, due to their excellent healing factor. Though they lack the ability to independently regenerate entire limbs, they can regenerate maimed fingers, toes, feet, hands, muscle tissue, and ligaments. In the rare event that an individual loses or damages their horn, that structure can regenerate as well. Finally, severe spinal cord injuries which would leave a typical Human or Near-Human paralyzed for life will only leave a Qilin paralyzed for only a month, at most.
  • Durable/Weaponized Horn: Qilin possess extremely durable horns, which rival the strength of even the most exotic armor materials in the galaxy, such as phrik and impervium. Their horns are so strong that they can reliably maintain a monomolecular edge or tip, allowing the structure to become a semi-functional weapon which can potentially penetrate heavy armor in desperate scenarios.
  • Physical Allure: With dainty, yet pulchritudinous females and fiercely attractive males, the Qilin are considered to be among the most physically attractive species of the galaxy. Because of their extreme rarity, they are highly sought after exotic additions to the slave stocks of lecherous Hutts and crime lords.
Weaknesses:
  • Female Vertical Deficiency: Pertaining to roughly ninety percent of the species, female Qilin are among the shortest Near-Human groups in the galaxy. As such, they typically do not make good fighters because of their lack of strength and reach.
  • Gender Imbalance: Male Qilin are incredibly rare and only make up ten percent of the total population. It is not uncommon for female Qilins to go their entire lives without seeing a male, especially if they do not live amongst other members of their species.
  • Alchemical Ingredients: The horns of the Qilin are considered to be incredibly potent alchemical ingredients by Dathomiri magicians, Sith alchemists, and other dark side mages. Correspondingly, their horns are highly sought after and it is very common for Qilin to be abducted so that their horn may be forcibly removed or for destitute individuals to willingly sell it for money.
  • Sensitive Horn: Although the horn of a Qilin is incredibly resilient, strong, and dense to the point where its strength is considered to be equivalent to the armored hide of a Zillo beast and the carapace of an orbalisk, it is also a very sensitive structure which may cause great pain to an individual if it is maliciously handled. In addition, using their horn in an offensive manner is also very painful to an individual.
  • Air Pollution: Heavily polluted Type I atmospheres are virtually uninhabitable to Qilin. In comparison, humans may only suffer negative long-term effects from breathing polluted air, such as increased rates of cancer and asthma, lower IQ, and lower fertility rates. However, Qilin suffer negative short-term effects from breathing polluted air, including suffocation and chemical pneumonia, which presents an immediate mortal danger to them. As such, when living on planets with heavily polluted or poorly cleaned atmospheres, Qilin typically wear air filtration masks.
  • Extreme Heat: Unlike baseline Humans and most Near-Humans, Qilin are very vulnerable to hot temperatures. At temperatures in excess of 80 °F, heat exhaustion is almost a certainty for otherwise healthy Qilin individuals, even when they are not doing strenuous activities. As such, during hot summer months, Qilin spend virtually all of their time indoors.
  • Virtually Nonexistent Sense of Smell: Though baseline Humans and most Near-Human species already possess a weak sense of smell in comparison to other creatures, the Qilin’s olfactory system is almost completely nonfunctional to the point where their noses are arguably vestigial organs. This is especially dangerous to the Qilin, given the high sensitivity of their lungs to contaminated air.
  • Recreational Drugs and Alcohol: Alcohol and most forms of recreational drugs are also immediately poisonous and lethal to Qilin, even in highly diluted forms.
CULTURE
  • Diet: Omnivore
  • Communication: Galactic Basic, Local Languages, Qilini
  • Technology level: Galactic Standard
  • Religion/Beliefs: The Qilin have a monotheistic religion centering around the Goddess of the Cosmos, known as Inara. Inara has eight domains of worship, which are love, conflict, vitality, death, time, logic, magic, mercy, and the elements. Religious individuals dedicate themselves to at least one domain.
  • General behavior: Most Qilin live within somewhat secluded racial enclaves on various planets, including Coruscant, Filth, Nyeon, Ahch-To, Savareen, and a few others. In spite of their vulnerability to polluted air, their enclaves are just as often embedded within sprawling cities as they are in idyllic country sides. This is because of the fact that Qilin are a very social and communal species, in spite of the difficulties that city life presents to their constitutions. However, they tend to avoid deserts and worlds with consistent patterns of hot weather, unless climate controlled buildings are plentiful. In general, their behavior does not differ radically from that of humanity. However, because of their lengthy lifespan, they tend to take a long-term view of affairs rather than a short-term one. Even so, their ancient oral history is filled with cautionary tales of power-hungry individuals who executed unsustainable short-term political actions, rather than a sustainable long-term ones.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Though the exact origins of the Qilin are highly disputed, the history of the species from the time of the first Qilini society with a written language is very well-documented. Qilini civilization arose on Velniri, which was once a vibrant, habitable, and unexploited world with plentiful resources and immeasurable amounts of biodiversity. In a region known informally as the Feracious Expanse, the first agricultural societies arose, along with vast cities and new cultures. In addition, there was rapid technological development which culminated in the advent of the first Qilini space going vessels. Over the course of hundreds and thousands of years, civilization expanded from the Feracious Expanse and into other regions of the planet. During this long and peaceful period, states and authoritarian governing institutions were rare and those that existed proved to be unsustainable.

What followed was an era of tyranny which ultimately led to Velniri being rendered uninhabitable. The first sustainable forms of authoritarian states emerged as superpowers and quickly established their dominion over the entire planet. Over a few hundred years, industry was established to exploit Velniri’s natural resources to power various military complexes and burgeoning forms of technology. The waste from these forms of dirty energy were dumped into the oceans or ventilated into the atmosphere. Given the sensitive lungs of the Qilin, after only a few years, the air in many parts of the planet was rendered uninhabitable to the Qilin and most individuals were forced to don specialized masks in order to avoid immediately suffocating to death upon stepping outside.

Having already established first contact with galactic civilization during the era of peace, many groups of wealthy and upper middle class Qilin began to emigrate from Velniri as more of the planet became polluted and natural resources dried up. Those that were too poor to afford tickets off of the world were left to live on a planet with air they could no longer breathe. Unrelenting heat waves, violent hurricanes, and mass die offs of keystone fauna triggered a cataclysmic disaster which nearly resulted in the extinction of the Qilin. Those that survived the event were extricated from the planet by the Galactic Alliance and resettled elsewhere in the galaxy.

However, only a few years after the catastrophe which devastated Velniri, the Gulag Plague spread across the galaxy. The already decimated Qilin lost more than half of their remaining population to the contagion, spurring the development of various Qilin racial enclaves in the galaxy which took the form of villages and urban racial concentrations. Due to the spread of the plague and the new threat of dark side alchemists who sought their horns, these groups tended to remain as isolationist as possible. However, as the Qilin population slowly regrew over time, many individuals began to venture out of familiar communities in order to more fully integrate themselves into galactic society...

This is an absolutely adorable species. I love the art you've chosen--Good eye. It fits them well. There are just a few small thins to go over.

1.) "Designation: Sapient" - Do you mean Sentient?

2.) "Origins: Unknown Regions" - The template does say to "Link" the origin if available so you'll want to link the Unknown Regions.

3.) "Average Lifespan" + "Long Lifespan Strength" - These two sections conflict a little bit. You may want to clarify to make them match a little better? Or explain this strength a little more?

Otherwise - You did a great job. I really enjoy a lot of the weaknesses you chose for their uniqueness. Just give me a tag when you look over the above.

Thank you!
