Game Dragon Age Veilguard

Emberlene's Daughter, The Jedi Generalist
I think this is one of the few franchises that webt from great acclaim to no one really paying attention. Dreadwolf has little to no information coming out and I imagine it will be like another Anthem/Andromeda where years of promises give way to a few months of work.

I've been a huge fan of the series for most of my life, but I am not hopeful for this new one. Many of the writers that made the series great have left Bioware, many as a result of EA being a terrible company to work for. I have had a strong feeling for ages that the fourth game will suffer like Andromeda did. I definitely have to agree that DA has been on the decline in popularity, much to my disappointment. I'd love for this next one to be good and for the series to make a good comeback but..... I don't know, I'm skeptical.

Veilguard is an amazing game for me. There are waaayyy worse games out there lol, you honestly telling me that this game is so bad? Unpopular opinion, I don't think Origins was that amazing mainly because of the boring combat and I just felt a lot of characters in the other games were better namely Dragon Age 2. It was clear that Bioware wanted to go in a different direction after Origins with each game being radically different from one another. I'm just very happy that Veilguard is answering mysteries from the games.

I know this is going to be shocking to hear, but Dragon Age always had a lot of cheese on it.
Don't bother.

People want to be angry at Veilguard because that's just how it works. The game is entirely serviceable, and most voices that cry their eyes out are the ones who can't let go of the fact that Origins was lightning in a bottle. Each Dragon Age game since have been received poorly at launch. Dragon Age II was a broken mess, but these days people really cling to "They only had 18 months to make it" as an excuse and Inquisition was so full of bloat you were in danger of popping it like a balloon if you poked it too hard. Veilguard was stuck in development hell where it was first going to be a Live Service game until it pivoted into a completely singleplayer game, making the Veilguard's development cycle pretty much like DA2 with sprinkles on top.

And rather unavoidably for a notoriously "woke" pro-LGBTQIA+ development studio, Veilguard is deemed "too woke" because it has a non-binary character, generally treats sexuality and identity with an open mind, and supports diversity. Some critiques are valid though. There is no real conflict between the companions despite how different they are. Everyone is a bit too friendly all the time, and while I agree that the writing could have been better I don't think that it was unplayably bad. The combat was enjoyable, the game launched with surprisingly few bugs, and it didn't take me a whole week of tedious grinding to beat it.

As for High vs. Dark fantasy, Tevinter and the North in general are canonically a lot more open to magic, while the South where all other games were are hostile to it. Would it have been nice to see a bit more edge in the story? Absolutely. Tevinter is a known slave society and yet the only instance of it is at what could only be described as "VillainCon". However, I can see how they chose the safer play here.

To sum up my thoughts in a single sentence, I'd say this: Veilguard's only crime was being released after Baldur's Gate 3.

Veilguard sucks. The art style sucks, the dialogue sucks, and as one reviewer put it:

"The dialogue feels like HR is in the room with you".

The audio quality sucks- some instances you can hear them being in the booth recording things. The combat is less technical and intricate, and not being able to switch to different characters to experience playstyles sucks. That was the cool thing about KOTOR and Dragon Age, you could switch around, see what being x or y was like.

The questlines are crappy. Predictable. And non-sensical at times.

Dragon Age was supposed to be this dark, brooding fantasy world. Not... Reddit's Version of Dragon Age. The morality is gone too, it's now either:

Nice Guy
Neutral Guy
Slightly Sarcastic Guy.

The lack of evil choices sucks, I usually try and play an evil playthrough on my second go-around of games to see what I could be like. The dialogue doesn't feel like it's in a fantasy universe, it feels like a CW show that has swords and spells. It's just not good. The gameplay loop is alright, but it's definitely boring and flashy after a bit. A lot of visual noise.

The social issues are also terribly written. It's self-inserts at best and terribly delivered at worst. I'm now worried about what they're doing with Mass Effect.

stinky Bioware.
