Faction Crimson Tide: The Cost of Silence [The High Republic | The Jedi Order]

The Jedi Order | The High Republic

The Thyferra System, located along the Rimma Trade Route, homeworld to the Vratix responsible for the discovery and manufacture of the now long-time and commercially used wonder-drug, Bacta, currently rests just outside of The High Republic’s sphere of Influence.
Between the planetoid itself and the sprawling commercial hub that is the Khevaris Space-Station, the world is greeted by a countless number of space-faring entrepreneurs, cargo and freight transport convoys, high-ranking businessmen and everyday customers or adventurers seeking their next triumph.

…And all of a sudden, what once came as endless communication across the holowaves, an entire system has been plunged into darkness, completely off-grid from all sensors of her neighbouring systems and larger political bodies.
No one had anticipated the deafening silence; there were no cries for help. One minute, the system was active in everyday data traffic, and then it was gone.

Thyferra’s surrounding systems, detecting the anomaly, scrambled to establish some form of lifeline.
Long-Range Sensor Arrays homed in on their neighbour and detected the presence of a large fleet that had made the jump from hyperspace, arriving in proximity to Kevaris Station; its composition fragmented and irregular, bearing no formal signs of affiliation with any one group, government, or world.

BK5hz9p.png

The Jasso Sector had always been a popular spot for tourism and commercial interests. Thyferra, by and large, was responsible for one of the largest historical shifts in medicinal properties known to the Galactic Market.
Trade lanes bustled with constant traffic, freighters drifting in long chains, convoys carrying huge sums worth of cargo, feeding the galaxy’s need for bacta and commerce.
Khevaris Station stood at its centre, a beacon of industry, life, and motion. Until it wasn’t, and the silence was abrupt and damning. No staggered failure. No warning signs. One moment, a living system of voices and signals. Next, there was nothing.

By the time Thyferra Command attempted to re-establish contact, the station was already gone from the grid. Automated relays failed. Emergency redundancies returned no signal. Even civilian frequencies, once cluttered with chatter, had fallen still.

Then came the sensor reports. Unidentified vessels are entering the sector. Not in formation, not unified, but converging. A fractured armada stitched together from mismatched hull signatures and transponder ghosts. Pirates. But not a single cell or criminal organisation, this seemed to be a much larger collaborative effort, a congregation of smaller criminal groups, marauders merging on the drifting Kevaris Station.

The High Republic cannot afford uncertainty, not here. Khevaris Station is too vital. Too populated. Too symbolic. The Jedi Order has been called upon, not for war, but for clarity.

To investigate.
To restore order.
To remind the galaxy that the light still answers.

Yet whispers ripple through the Outer Rim…This attack was not random. Criminal syndicates, once fractured and territorial, have formed a temporary alliance. Drawn together by opportunity… or perhaps something darker and more deliberate.

Fear is spreading, and fear influences credits.

Objective One: Secure Kevaris Station - Marauders, thieves, and killers are boarding the Station, home to thousands of citizens, crews, employees and corporate market chains. This Station is a treasure trove of industry, from medicinal to science, with hangars full of starships soon to be taken, and helpless workers killed for their meagre possessions. Your job is to save as many as possible, secure the Station before it is compromised, and remove the threat using whatever methods are deemed necessary to end the violence.

Objective Two: Engage the Enemy Fleet - There are no telltale signs of association to the larger galactic powers here; every ship differs in make, model and firepower. Coordination among the pirate fleet is chaotic and unpredictable as each strives to take a larger cut for themselves. These merciless criminals, mercenaries, rogues and scavengers are willing to take what doesn’t belong to them, at any cost. Whether through boarding action or fleet engagement, you are to keep them at bay for as long as possible. Best-case scenario, send them packing. Worst case, stay alive until further reinforcements from the High Republic arrive to back you up.

Aiden Porte did not arrive alone.

His transport settled at Dock Seven with a firm metallic lock. Distant shouting, and a blaster report echoing somewhere deeper inside the corridor network. The station was still alive, but it was afraid.

A small detachment of Republic soldiers moved with him as the hatch lowered. They formed around him without hesitation, disciplined and ready, their presence bringing order into a corridor that had only known confusion for hours.

Aiden stepped onto the station first.

Through the Force, he could feel the others arriving across its vast structure. Jedi Masters and Knights taking their places along different docking arms and access rings, each one a steady presence pushing back against the rising fear spreading through the station's population.

He was not the only one answering the call. They had all come for the same reason.

Fear and hate had no place here. Aiden rested his hand lightly at his side as he looked down the dim corridor ahead, his voice calm as he spoke to the soldiers beside him.

"Keep your eyes open, they are here. Find them, ensure they don't harm anyone else."

OBJECTIVE 1: MASTERMIND

The underworld was ripe for the taking.

Black Sun has fallen, and now the various syndicates and common scum no longer have a guiding hand. Once more, it falls upon the Sith to ensure they cause the chaos necessary for the dark tide to expand yet further, to sow death and fear into countless outlying systems that have yet to choose a side in the coming war.

And there will be war. War on a scale not seen in generations.

For such was the will of Darth Nefaron.

Sith-corruption.png

Kevaris Station fell quickly to the loose confederacy of criminal gangs, all vying for the spoils of conquest. The armada of ships that ensured no vessels escaped the station remained in place, effectively blockading Thyferra and cutting the system off from the wider galaxy, at least for a time.

Nefaron had been careful to largely conceal his role in this little operation, communicating by holo or hand-picked courier when possible. Still, regardless, he had found worthy leaders of this little raid amongst the now fractured denizens of the underworld. From the Hutt Cartel to the shattered remnants of Black Sun, many answered the call for renewed conflict and slaughter. It was only now that the plan that had been so carefully crafted went into effect that the Corpse Lord chose to act in person, arriving aboard the station in as much secrecy as possible. The leaders of this so-called "Crimson Tide" were free to do as they pleased, but they had to grant the Dark Lord but a single concession;

He wanted the most intelligent of the station's denizens. New slaves to grow his endless warmachine.

There was resistance, of course, but none defied the will of the Sith.

Secluded within the depths of the station, confined to a tucked-away hanger bay, a civilian cargo freighter was loaded with the living cargo the Sith Lord required. It would be from his hideaway that the Corpse Lord watched the High Republic, and more importantly, the Jedi, who were lured into the first of many traps laid out by the Sith. They would leap at the chance to protect the innocent and ensure the flow of bacta to nearby systems, but in return, they would further commit themselves to conflict and militarization.

Full-scale war was coming, and it would see the Republic and the Empire decimated as a result.

Then Nefaron would make his play.

The HRNV N-1 Suncrown-class Snubfighter Squadron screamed out of the hangar of the Republic Heavy Frigate, thrusters ablaze with Balun Dashiell seated in the cockpit of the lead craft, the S-91x Pegasus standing out from the rest. They had arrived in the Jasso Sector at the beckoning of the High Republic, Jedi and Republic Navy scrambling as an attack force of unknown origin had suddenly arrived over Thyferra, targeting the heavily populated Khevaris Station in orbit overhead.

It had been a long time since Balun had taken the helm of anything combat-related, and prior to departing the Frigate, he had been forced to remind himself of the lives that were on the line, if only to will his heart to slow its pace. Adrenaline surging through his veins, amping him up as he took the S-91x Pegasus out and away from the large ship, his hands driving the throttle forward and opening the engines up, the thrum of energy vibrating through the cockpit an echo of velocity and power that he held in his hands.

On his six, there were twelve accompanying HRNV Snubfighters, a squadron complement that had been committed to his command out of consideration for his rank as Jedi Knight, yet it was another factor that he had to try to push past. Their lives lingered on his every instruction, his leading them into a known battle, the chaos and speed of ship-to-ship combat.

Comms chatter from the other pilots sounded off in his ear, remarks about the fleet of unknown origin. Who and what they were fighting, yet to be confirmed, other than the complement of the enemy fleet itself. It wouldn't be until visual range was acquired that the first insignia came into view, the capital vessels of which smaller craft surrounded, seemingly the lead targets of the invading enemy's coordination. Balun, however, was tasked with thinning out the support craft numbers, their squadron driving forward as countless smaller ships seemed to depart from one of the Cruisers and head their way.

"Fighter Squadrons ahead. Peel off in twos and spread them out once the action hits, don't let them bunch up on you," Balun spoke into his mic to his squadron pilots, sounding very much lacking when it came to the pilot-talk; "And may the Force be with us", he added, as if to remind them they were fighting alongside the Jedi.

Casaana didn't have a military rank, she was still just a Padawan after all, but she did have a surprising number of friends. So when she learned that there was a situation on Thyferra and an all-call out for Jedi to come help, she passed on the call to more Jedi, specifically to The Spirit of Unity. Because if there was a pirate fleet out attacking people, having even a light cruiser out as backup would be nice. Plus, it was poetic, Casaana thought to herself in the cockpit of her custom interceptor. The cruiser had once been a pirate ship itself until she'd come across it and captured it with a team of other Jedi that had come together to save the cruise liner it was attacking.

The barest of shudders went through the ship as it translated to real space, and containing her excitement, Casaana waited for the deck officer's orders. First out were the x-wing squads. Solid, if slightly dated ships known more for their reliability and balanced performance than being cutting edge. But that didn't mean their pilots didn't have any tricks up their sleeves. They'd surprised Casaana more than once in the simulators. One squad peeled away to chase after the Cruiser's first targets while the second stayed close, screening against counterattack. Then it was Casaana's turn. Bringing up the Jadefire's engine, she smoothly pulled it forward before dipping out of The Spirit's ventral hanger. Throttling up, she chased after the attack squad of x-wings.

Over the comms, she heard the Captain announcing them to the High Republic ships before switching to a general frequency to deliver the standard ultimatum to the pirates. Surrender, flee, or face justice. Casaana was determined to see as many of the pirates face that last option alive as possible. Engaging the underslung heavy hybrid beam cannon, she routed power to it, letting it charge as she selected the ion mode. Her first target was one of the gunships, raining down blaster fire on it as she passed before pirouetting around to come up on its tail to let the ion beam play across its weakened shield before it broke and the engines took the remainder of the beam's ionizing energy. Circling up and around to dive on the gunship, she shot out its engines, taking it out of the fight.

Checking her surroundings again, she juked out of the way as an x-wing chased a Z-95 past. Following through, she circled and intercepted another headhunter trying to rescue its wingmate. A whole other squad was moving in, trying to overwhelm the lone squadron when the surrounding area lit up with red fire. The Spirit of Unity had moved into position to give the x-wings some direct fire support with her heavy lasers and point defense on her way past to find one of those pirate cruisers and see if they lived up to the title.

"Give us the goodies, woman," barked the ruffian after having spent the last few minutes roughing her up. The mother of three had put up what feeble fight she could, yet to little avail, and now had to watch her children look on in horror at the scene unfolding before their young eyes. Their mother, beaten and bludgeoned, face swollen and clothes ripped to tatters. She would meet their horrified stares through the floorboards whenever she could, trying to silently soothe her babies. She wept at the sound of a knife slicing through the last straps of her clothes.

A commotion came from outside the dwelling, followed by a loud thud as a body was thrown up against the locked entryway. "Check it out," said the leader to his fellow bandits, forcefully holding the mother down whilst reaching for his blaster. The heavy blast door came crashing into the room with such violence that it pinned one of the home invaders to the far wall, splitting at the waist.

"FETH!"

A dense fog poured into the room, enveloping the other henchman until the sickening squelching noise of a head being crushed ended the man's screaming. Before the abuser could attempt to hold the poor woman at gunpoint, the tip of a blade cut through the fog and placed itself at his juggular, piercing his flesh just enough to draw blood. He froze, eyes following the length of the ornate blade to its wielder.

"W-what are you," he audibly gulped. As the unnatural fog lifted, the first thing he saw were a pair of ruby eyes glaring at him. The mighty figure swept aside the remaining fog, revealing his knightly warplate.

"Justice," the figure uttered before a flick of his wrist severed head clean from shoulders. Though smattered in her assailant's blood, she looked up at her rescuer with shock, which turned to awe upon the removal of his winged helmet. A long mane of gold framed an aged face worn down from too much hardship, yet even the inherent sadness in his eyes did not strip away the warmth of his smile when he offered her his hand.

She gratefully accepted, especially so when the towering stranger wrapped a blanket around her dishevelled form. By then the little ones had burst forth from their hiding place beneath the floorboards, crowding their poor mother as they cried in unison. The mother turned to the blonde giant with a question on her mind, but no words came.

He simply reached down and cupped her cheek, wiping away her tears of gratitude as he smiled.

"Stay here, and stay hidden. There may be others," he told them. "Take their weapons. I'll dispose of the bodies." The eldest was quick to scamper around the apartment and collect the three blasters as the others crawled back beneath the floor.

"Th-thank you," the mother finally squeaked out a meager response. The tall knight turned to the family as he was about to depart. "May the Force be with you," he bowed his head, then donned the menacing helmet once more and stepped outside, summoning the heavy door back into place.

Thurion looked to the skies, the feed of his visor detailing the incoming ships.

"Jedi of the High Republic," he mused. "Welcome, kinsmen."

COST OF SILENCE
THYFERRA - KEVARIS STATION
OBJECTIVE 1

pHjD5Dp.png

It has been a long time since he had been able to enjoy a day with a certain someone and of course another. However here we are. They were walking the Promenade, having picked up something she had ordered a long time ago that was finally in.

That is when everything went south.

The attacks, the ambushes, it was a warzone in a moment’s eye. The fragile peace that was balanced was tipped with the terrifying drones of weapons fire and explosions. Connel instinctively wanted them to sorely realize the weight of their mistake, but he had someone with him. No, not Lira, she could handle herself, probably better than many of these “boarders” but she knew what was holding him back, kissed him on the cheek, whispered in his ear and patted him on the back.

He then reached into her pack and pulled out his lightsaber, running towards the trouble… just like a Vanagor.
