When Red asked if Haastal was popular, the Mandalorian couldn't help but snort. "Nah, just killed enough people." He said, before looking to Dain with an amused smirk. Dain had taken a shot on Haastal taking up with the Mandalorians and all he could do was shake his head, the light traces of a smirk still on his face. "I owed a debt..." Was all he said, before clapping Dain on the shoulder and turning back into the ship. "Come on, let's get goin'." He said. He passed by Red who had been in the middle of some altercation or another.

"Shut up and sit down, Red." Haastal said, pointing a thumb to the back of the passenger bay. When the blue woman called out Haastal's name, he called back almost immediately. "I'm comin' blue." He said, before chuckling at the irony of having a "red" and a "blue."

Haastal settled into the pilot's seat, flipping the activation switches while his hand reached for his waist. He pulled his buy'ce from his belt, slapping the helmet onto the console before him. The Mandalorian pulled another cigarra from his pack, clipping it in his teeth before taking hold of the controls. "Alright then." Although he was not an expert pilot, the man had flown numerous times through his life and he was more than capable of flying a ship this size. As they exited the the hangar, he began inputting a code into the console. They began their descent upon the planet and almost immediately the ship was flagged by one of the ship's patrolling vessels. The people of Rannon did not have much when it came to military might, more so than fleets they had small policing vessels that policed the planet's traffic. Getting through them was simple enough.

Once Haastal transmitted the falsified codes, the patrol vessels peeled off from behind their shuttle.

"Karkin' idiots." He huffed, before maintaining his course to the main city. As they flew over the planet, he could see how extremely boring a planet this was. It was nothing when compared to super-city planet's like Coruscant. "Alright, we're comin' in for a landing." He told Tallara, as the shuttle descended down onto the planet. The moment the shuttle had settled on the world, Haastal pulled his buy'ce over his head. He watched as his vision was taken over by an azure hue. As the helmet's HUD came online, the Mandalorian looked to Tallara. "I'll get things powered down, go ahead."

Nyx was an ominous statue situated before the landing pad until the shuttle arrived. Even then the hooded and cloaked figure didn't move. Her synthesized voice cut in over the communication array, however, as the ship's occupants prepared to disembark, "Speeders are standing by. Grab whatever gear you can bring with you, but travel light. We will be approaching on foot."

She continued to wait outside until the team unloaded onto the pad. Only when they moved forward would her metallic hand reach up to draw back the hood and reveal her glowing, red eyes. "I am Nyx. You will find the speeders behind me," though she did not bother to gesture to the lined up transportation about forty feet away from the pad. If any attempted to make for them immediately, however, they'd find an immovable, metal female-shaped droid barring the way. "Before we begin, our task is to hunt an individual that has lost their way and ended up on this planet. They came with a measure of supplies that might prove a lucrative bonus on our contract. I intend to collect this bonus." In case the cover story hadn't been made clear in advance, she'd hide the truth amidst convenient lies -- the easiest way to ensure someone didn't get their story mixed up.

Nyx's voice was not a monotone droning, as she or her builder, had added a feminine quality to match her chassis, but it was not quite Human, "We will make for the valley ten clicks from this town. It is a thriving valley with a wide variety of flora. You will find the fauna less...pleasant, but sparse. Locals indicate that there is a strange 'vibe' -- an unwelcome, unbearable 'itch' -- that keeps them from exploring the interior of the valley. I believe those schooled in the Force would ascribe the 'Dark Side' to this phenomena, and consequentially would explain the type and demeanor of the fauna by that measure."

Her cranial unit pivoted to scan the assembled team. "If there are questions you should ask them now. Otherwise, it is best if we depart. I would advise not disturbing the locals unless necessary. They will tolerate our presence, but distrust how we may 'disrupt' their isolated community."

Red placed his weapons back onto his utility belt and into his combat pack. As the shuttle came in for the landing, he placed his helmet on, his HUD springing to life. As his visor was reflective, he could see out, and people couldn't see in.

The shuttle landed, and Red stood up out of his seat. He moved out of the ship. He was holding a blaster rifle. Red looked around, scanning for hostiles. So far, none yet. Then, he noticed [member="Nyx N1X3"] . He listened to what the droid had to say. Red recognized the cover story for their mission.

Red nodded. "Yes ma'am. No questions here." Red moved to the speeders and activated one. He examined it.

Red flag. No pun intended.
Tallara seemed to not be listening for most of Red's spiel on himself, but of course she was always listening. Her response wasn't to him, though -- once he was finished, the woman slowly reached up and placed a finger on her ear, activating a direct line of communication with the Dauntless General. "General Terrik, could you confirm for myself and Agent Red that slicing into the databases of the Ministry of Secrets and Knights Obsidian and retrieving confidential files is illegal? If I recall correctly, someone who does this is to serve a lifetime in prison for such a crime," she said in a matter-of-fact tone. The Pathfinder stuck by her initial assessment of the soldier as a child, as it was clear to her that no competent adult in his position would reveal such clearly treasonous and illegal information and motives.

Normally, of course, she'd have taken him down on the spot and answered questions later, but this was more a courteous request to Terrik and only slightly a threat to Red. Tallara knew that someone like that could easily betray the Confederacy. If he tried, she would hunt him down personally. Her own past and information was irrelevant, but who knew what other information the man could have? He'd already effectively compromised two of the people on this mission, and it would be easy for him to continue to steal files considering how difficult KO and MoS encryption networks were to crack. Her trust in his other skills waned -- if he was such a skilled slicer, he wouldn't be able to have practiced anything else. Not like he was a droid.

She couldn't let all that get in the way of her current work, though -- with Haastal in the pilot's seat, their ship glided out of the hangar. There wasn't much for her to do aside from assist the pilot as they flew down to the surface. Soon enough they'd landed, and she gave an affirmative nod to the Mandalorian's comment and hopped out of her seat. Down the ramp, into the open air, over to the sort of quest-giving NPC that was standing on their landing pad. Again she was listening to someone she did not know well, but she gave once more an affirmative nod and headed over to the speeders. The cover story was simple enough, but Tallara was more worried about their destination. Force-bred monsters weren't exactly something she was the most familiar with, and most certainly something she did not want to become familiar with.

Tallara mounted one of the speeders and double-checked her gear once more, glancing at the rest of the group. She was thankful that they weren't here to blend in considering how excessively equipped some of the group were, or how much they stood out anyways. Didn't much matter now. "Ready to move."

Nyx regarded the assembled team. "Stow your gear and mount your speeder." The droid turned and strode toward her own vehicle situated at the front of the pack.

After her metal chassis caused the hovering vehicle to dip slightly introduced to her weight, the droid cast a look back at the rest. It wouldn't do if she tried to push them too quick and ended leaving them behind. In the same token, they weren't here to sight see -- as the organics put it. "Stay close. Do not wander. Time is short, and we will not have time wandering through the woods looking for someone that is lost. We ride."

They weren't barred from asking questions later. Nyx had just sought to get the obvious items out of the way before drawing close to danger. Silence was often prudent in dangerous territory. Unfortunately not all organics understood that or could help their nervous reactions. Still, they had their uses, which was why Nyx enjoyed their company -- despite many not sharing the sentiment. With a sharp cry, the bike peeled off down the path that led from the landing pad. She'd hold off on top speed until her auditory sensors picked up the group assembling along side or behind; then they'd kick into high gear and into the operational theater.

Little existed in the way of a road or even well-traveled path that led far from where they'd landed. The closer they got to the valley, the fewer and more infrequent the signs of sapient life. Foliage was a concern, but Nyx navigated them with practiced ease. A recent digital and precision map of the approach aided a swift return to the ridge.

Once there, however, she signaled the group to slow and not long after cut forward momentum.

Nyx looked back at those that had followed. "We walk from here. At the top of this ridge we will be able to see over most of the valley. Please familiarize yourself with the landscape, and note the location of the vessel." The large sniper rifle was drawn off her shoulder as one might a pistol. Glowing red eyes regarded metal slug chamber as she pulled back the charger. Without further comment the metal woman turned and began to stride toward position.

Tess had been eager to a degree to see who their Ministry contact had been. Once she exited the lander ramp, she got a full look at the shrouded droid, no doubt in her mind, as she had worked with her once or twice before, the red eyes gave her away: Nyx. Whether or not the droid recognized her didn’t matter to the Crow, she now had someone she didn’t need to pull their file to figure out their name beforehand. Tess watched as “Red” practically marched straight to the bikes after Nyx was done with her briefing, something must have gotten him upset, maybe that question Tallara had asked the general? Who knew?

Tess walked over to the bikes making sure to sit on one next to the blue Knight and asked, “Red seems a bit uptight. What’d you say to him?” as she removed her electro staff (that when disassembled looked like to batons) and stored them in the bike’s side holster that was most likely for rifles.

But before she could get her reply Nyx hopped on her speeder, waited a second and then she was off. Tess was quick behind the droid, staying out of her exhaust trail, but staying close behind. As they went along, she began to wonder how long the Raven had actually been planetside as she drove the unmarked tail like she had been a daily driver.

When they finally came to a stop Tess got off, reached into one of her pouches and pulled out a small tracking device. She knelt down and placed it on the underside of her bike as she removed the two halves of her electro staff, she had stored on it. Then standing up she reattached them to her belt underneath her trench coat. As the Crow followed her fellow Raven, she retrieved her binary rifle from her back and attached a 2x-4x variable scope she had swiped from the ship during their ride.

After she caught up to Nyx, “How dangerous is the demeanor of the local wildlife here?” she asked the droid, “Are we talking grumpy sand bears? Or rampaging gundarks?” Tess wasn’t too fond of the idea of having to deal with local animals and possibly pirates. One or the other, but two fronts wouldn’t be worth it.

Red smiled at Tallara's threat. Good, she was reaching up to Red's expectations. Though, Red could tell that he had unnerved her with his splicing of files. Any sane person in their right mind would be worried about that. But Red wasn't going to give classified to the enemies any time soon. Not any time soon, maybe never, but other people would still be worried by that, because normal people are fallible. Red was anything but normal.

Red mounted his speeder bike and took off after Nyx.

Then, the group came to a stop. Red got off of his speeder bike and pulled out his blaster rifle. Currently, it was set on burst setting. Then, Nyx took off walking.

"Well, I guess we know who's on point." Red muttered to himself. Then, he walked after Nyx.

The Mandalorian tucked his blaster pistol into the holster as he exited the shuttle. Once everyone was off the ship, he looked back to it while running his hand over the datapad installed into his gauntlet. The ship appeared to fade from reality as the cloaking system activated. Where once the ship had been, it sat there no longer. Haastal turned back to the group that had gone on ahead, vaguely listening as he prepped his jetpack. While the others sped off, Haastal was content to look to the speeder bike that he been prepared for him. He paused, before gazing at the bike. He tapped the side of his helmet, watching as it's mechanical schematics pulled onto his HUD. He stood a moment before a small green light flashed in the corner.

He let out a quick chuckle before his jets exploded out. The Mandalorian took to flight, though he was sure to remain low to the ground while they traveled. The flight did not last long, because not after long he found himself gaining on the group that had gone ahead.

Just as he was walking up, he'd heard Red mutter something. The Mandalorian took the back of his blaster pistol and tapped it onto the soldier's helmet. "Hey, shut up for a bit." He told him before holding a single finger up to his buy'ce.

"Eyes open." Haastal said, gesturing to the surrounding terrain. This area would work well if the intent was any form of ambush, that was why Haastal was not keen on the ground being distracted.

Moving again.
Tallara liked and disliked the droid. Much like most droids. Their efficiency and no-nonsense attitude was something admirable. She could respect anyone who kept their objective in mind, put the assignment first. Even so, could one really ever trust a droid? They could be more loyal, perhaps, but one could never tell what they were thinking. Non-organic beings were rather dangerous to Force users. She'd have to trust someone who did good work, though, even if they were a spy.

Speaking of spies... "He knows what you are," the woman replied simply to the Crow. So did she of course. That was the one benefit of having a slicer stealing CIS files. She shook her head lightly. "Oh, he's far worse than uptight. He's overconfident. Of course, that isn't really the reason you should keep an eye on him." It was the slicing part. Of course it was the slicing part. She'd likely be arresting him as soon as this mission was over, likely to be interrogated by someone else, if not simply sentenced for his actions immediately. It was unfortunate that he'd decided to tell her. Not that it mattered at the moment.

Their little speeder ride was short and uneventful. She drove alongside the squad of misfits, taking in her surroundings as they glided towards the valley. She stopped with the others at the edge of the ridge, her eyes scanning their new surroundings. The ship, the terrain, and... the feeling of something else.

Simply put, the wildlife was the least of her worries.

Red turned to the sound of tapping on his helmet, and nodded to [member="Haastal Verd"] . He was already going quiet, but he wasn't one to argue with a superior. He wasn't really one to argue with anyone.

Red listened to the conversation between [member="Tallara"] and [member="Tess Valnora"] . He wasn't overconfident, he just said what the scientists in the lab told him about himself. Really, what the scientists said was really the only personal opinion he had about himself, and it wasn't even his own opinion of himself. He didn't think he was ever good or bad, he just worked, trained, and did what he was ordered to do. Only the scientists that had genetically altered him had any opinion of him and the other experiments, and they thought that the experiments were far better than any normal being, and that's what the scientists told the experiments, of course, the experiments didn't care about how good they were, they were only concentrated on what they were ordered to do.

Anyways, he knew what had got [member="Tallara"] all riled up. He knew that she had misunderstood him. He actually wasn't a splicer. He barely knew how to. He was only an amateur, at best. He knew that, and he wasn't practicing the skill. He preferred to leave that job to other people, as Red knew that his expertise lay in combat and his other special skills. In fact, splicing wasn't how he had found out about the information, but through other methods. But, Red let her continue to think he had spliced that information, he liked keeping people in the dark about himself, keeping them wondering about who he was, it was actually a hobby for Red.

Red kept quiet, and he scanned the surroundings. He looked around, and memorized the landscape.

The Valley.
Many stories had been told of this place throughout the generations of those living on the planet. Stories of evil, horrible deeds, and darkness that lived in the valley. Those that there ventured into it stunk of these things once they left. That is, if they left at all. The valley had claimed many a person once they had walked into its clutches. And those that were lucky enough to return were forever changed by their time there.
Of course, these were all just stories by an isolated people, their imaginations running wild with things they could not understand, right?
These things would linger on the squad’s minds as they approached the valley, it’s gaping chasm practically beckoning them to dwell in it’s depths. They approached it from the west, away from the direction of the town, seeing the ship landed at the other end. Even from the distance they came from, damage was visible on the hull. Burn marks from lasers, and holes in the hole that was no longer airtight. Yet, despite the damage, the name of the vessel could still be easily seen on it’s bow.
The Royal Command. The squad had found it.
Even though the squad could see the ship, however, didn’t meant they could get to it from it’s current position without some trouble. Two paths were laid in front of them. A system of dark caves led down to the surface of the valley near them, but who knew of what horrors might lie in it’s depths? The other path was not much safer. A path down the valley’s floor could be seen, but to take the path would mean fighting through the fauna of the planet, as well as taking longer to get down than the caves.
What would the squad pick? Would they come to a unified decision? These choices might make or break the already crumbling squad before they even reached the ship.

The droid-woman looked over at [member="Tess Valnora"] as she strode up the incline. "Gundarks. Dark-side corrupted gundarks, I believe a Jedi would ruminate." Was that alarming? They were swift and strong, but the fact they were "corrupted" hardly seemed to be any more concerning to a droid. They were dangerous. They were dangerous without being corrupted. Strategy had to be adapted to compensate, but a hazard was a hazard no matter the cause.

When they topped the ridge, Nyx hurried over to the other side before she dropped down on one knee to survey the valley ahead and below. That the ship was there did not capture her attention as she expected it would the rest. This was not her first time laying eyes on it or the valley. Organics preferred first-hand experience, however, so she expected they would studiously regard the valley before them and their ultimate destination.

After a short time, however, she turned her cranial unit so her eyes could fall on the bulk of the group. "There is a system of unmapped, underground passageways we could use to approach the vessel. Insufficient data to perform a risk analysis. There is, of course, the more direct route along the surface; it is not terribly steep, but may slow our descent regardless. Furthermore, we will certainly encounter some of the living organisms that reside here. I did not have much trouble with them when I was here before, but my chassis is not terribly edible either." That animals didn't recognize her for what she was hardly mattered, though one or two had likely taken exception to her 'scent' of oil and metal.

"My advice is to proceed along the surface. We will need to keep to cover to avoid being seen, and deal with predators swiftly. Preferably without resorting to loud weaponry -- such as unsilenced slug throwers. However," Nyx's gaze hadn't wavered a second while addressing them all, "I request you be forthcoming in terms of your own capabilities. If stealth is not your strength, the dangers below may be necessary." Of course those dangers could be lethal. The mission itself carried that risk; she expected every one of them were prepared for that eventuality.

“Corrupted-shmorrupted, they’re gundarks, don’t see how this Dark Side Force can corrupt gundarks in any way special that makes them more than they already are.” Tess said, she wasn’t a believer in the Force. She had seen it multiple times, but she had also seen magic tricks before. It was all mysticism and parlor tricks, no power from microscopic organisms, no destiny creating entity. And the gundark “corruption” could probably be proved by scientists anyway, probably some mind-altering disease.

She cast a sideways glance at the genetically alter solder as she continued talking, “Still going to keep my guard up and take extra precautions though. And without a full report of those caves I would be hesitant about going down there. I’ve been on missions like that before, they never go well. I would suggest we take our chances with the local wildlife.”

Tess checked the round readout on her rifle ‘Oathkeeper’; twenty shots, a full cell, not that it was like she had spent any, yet. But Tallara’s comment earlier had her wishing she had, somebody knowing who she was (without her consent) while under an alias was bad enough. But if they choose to reveal it let alone possibly share it with Ministry enemies that could compromise her entire life. The Crow looked away from “Red”, she didn’t show any signs that she was worried about her current issue, but she wanted to have a little chat with this man who might know her actual name. How he figured out one of her closest guarded secrets. Only a select few people outside of the Ministry knew it and they were only privy to that due to certain circumstances.

She would need answers.

Later.

Red nodded. "I'll choose the surface. Better than feeling our way around in the dark." He said. Then, he placed his blaster rifle onto his back and pulled out his suppressed sniper rifle. They needed stealth, and they needed to be quiet, and this was one of Red's favorite quiet weapons. His armor was already painted in camouflage for the surrounding environment.

He noticed the crow, [member="Tess Valnora"] , glance at him then away. Strange, she seems nervous. Red wondered why she seemed nervous, particularly of him. Red would have to ask her later.

I've got a bad feeling about this.
Corrupted was much more concerning to Tallara than it was to the others. Droids and most organics did not seem to understand the gravity of the situation, whereas for Tallara it felt as if the valley was attempting to drag and twist her soul and heart. From where they stood it did not affect her too heavily, but for once she worried what would happen the further into the valley they got. The wildlife was another thing entirely -- she'd heard stories of the vornskr and terentateks, the sorts of creatures that preyed on Force sensitives. Under the circumstances it was possible that she'd become a burden to the group.

Tallara took a deep breath, centering herself in the Force. "The Force is nothing to scoff at. Gundarks aren't either. But I agree with your assessments, taking the surface is the most efficient. Things that lurk in the dark tend to be more dangerous than the creatures under the sun." The Pathfinder knew that very, very well. "I think our group is well-equipped for a quick, stealthy move across the surface. If needed I might be able to conjure some illusions as distractions, or help conceal us."

The Force would protect them, right?

Haastal had been relatively quiet through out the whole endeavor. Why wouldn't he be? Wasn't much reason for the man to talk. When he caught up to the group, his eyes set on the valley that laid before them. It truly seemed like something pulled out of some ghoulish bedtime story, in fact it was almost theatrically frightful. When the man's rangefinder auto-locked onto the mass of wreckage that was The Royal Command, he let out a soft sigh. The ship was obviously damaged, however the terrain to it would be tough for this group to travel. He momentarily glanced over at the cave system that held an opening not far from where they were.

Only a dumbass would go in there. He mused, before listening to the group's discussion. It seemed that most of them were of a similar mind and that would make what came next easier, although not too much easier.

When Tallara began to speak, Haastal found himself nodded in agreement with her. While they were not exactly a competent Recon squad, they had shown a competence with the bare minimum of procedures, so it was not likely that any of them would find themselves in a compromising situation.

Haastal pointed a finger over to the path that laid before them. "We should move in two teams. The first team will go ahead as Recon, two people, they can move faster and hopefully spot anything before we all stumble upon it as a group. The rest of us will advance slower, giving us time to cover our backs and react to anything that comes at us." It was a simple tactic, but it could prove advantageous for the group.

Red nodded to Haastal's suggestion. It was simple, but a proven effective battle tactic. It could be used in a wide variety of situations. "Agreed. That seems like the best idea we have right now. We're going to need volunteers for the small Recon group. Permission to volunteer?" Red asked. He probably should have just volunteered, but some members of the group outranked him, and the protocols burned into his brain from genetic modification and supersoldier training made him still ask for permission. It was just a habit he had. He did it to everyone that outranked him. He really needed to fix that.

Nyx's cranial unit pivoted ever so slightly so her red eyes fell in line with each as they spoke. None opted for the underground path. This was satisfactory as she knew some of the terrain ahead if they remained on the surface. As for talk of Force-imbued monstrosities, well the droid didn't really have an opinion on an energy field that couldn't be quantified and whose influence over the laws of physics defied rational thought. 'Magic' was hardly adequate to describe such a thing. At least most mystical systems had rules of their own. Nyx wasn't entirely clear on what governed the Force.

Her digits danced over an arm brace for a second. "I have made a limited survey of the valley ahead available to each of you. I should not need to remind you, however, that animals do not possess patrol routes. Short of environmental obstacles a risk assessment was practically impossible." Nyx had been there some time before the team. An undisclosed amount of time. And finding her way to the crest of the valley had been far from the sum total of her accomplishments in that time.

"I will venture ahead of the group as the creatures have little interest in my indigestible chassis. Please remain on guard should any lifeforms of this planet attack from either side as you follow." The team seemed capable enough to handle themselves. Surely they had been assembled by someone that trusted in their capabilities under the circumstances; so Nyx would as well. That being said, the droid wouldn't 'babysit' them. Their well-being was in their own hands. They had a job to do, and Nyx would accomplish it -- whether they all returned in one piece or otherwise.

As Nyx started forward to begin the descent into the elongated bowl of vegetation, she called back, "Please decide on formation before we reach the valley floor."

"The ship isn't exactly... intact," she pointed out. Maybe her observational skills weren't as good, or as least as quick as she thought they were. "We don't have the means to repair the vessel, nor do we have the means to take it and leave with it. Our cruiser isn't big enough to hold it." The Royal Command was a relatively standard-sized cargo ship, and that meant it was far too large to be carried by anything short of a battlecruiser. Why would they be orde- oh.

Tallara stared at the droid. "We're meant to destroy the ship, aren't we." The droid had already been to the ship, but still the group had been called in to help. That meant they already knew what they were up against -- and it was likely filled with hostiles. Otherwise there would be no reason to call in any kind of special forces group. Moreover, the Confederacy would've already sent a ship for extraction. Not enough made sense to her until now. There was something valuable on that ship; even if it was just a few high-grade blasters, it couldn't fall into enemy hands if the Confederacy did not have the means to retrieve it. Scorched earth policy -- Tallara could respect that.

The woman gave a slight nod to the droid, though her eyes had clearly narrowed. Even more reason to not trust the odd Ministry of Secrets operative. She stepped forward to the front of the group, beginning to walk a reasonable distance behind the droid. "I've got point."

Then, suddenly, the droid took off on it's own, moving forward by itself. "Yes ma'am." Red muttered. Great, droids. Well, what can you do? It's just the way they are.

Then, [member="Tallara"] said that she was on point. Bold, but reckless, as they still didn't have a formation. Perfect, just perfect. "Yes ma'am, but first we should decide on a formation. I suggest a phalanx formation. We fan out in a large open semi-circle, with the end points facing the enemy. With that formation, we can trap the enemy, and outflank them with ease." Red suggested.
