Blocking Art

The arts of Force Barrier and Tutaminis used to be common knowledge within the Jedi, but over the years it was taught less and less. Until the time came where only a few knew these skills. Jairdain was one of these few and felt others needed to know how to perform them. Taking on the challenge, she made a message for the Silver Jedi and their allies to join her class.

She was not sure how many would be attending, but hoped she had enough blasters, practice sabers and aides to help with the lesson. This would be the first time teaching these skills to more than one person and hoped any of her students for the class would be able to keep up.

Setting the room up, she also hoped the one she picked was large to hold the amount of people she expected to show up. Jairdain now paced the room, almost chewing on her fingernails as she waited for the people to start coming for the class.

Losing is tempoary, giving up is permanent.
After her last duel Sukai was intent on learning more about defensive arts of the force, and any more information to add the the family archives was always a bonus. Fortunately Knight [member="Jairdain"] was running a class on said force powers, and with no current tasks or mission on the bored Sukai was more then willing to attend. Walking into the training ground it seemed she was the first to arrive, the area vacant of anyone except for Jairdain.

Sukai approached the grey knight, giving her custom and respectful bow, "Hello knight Jairdain, I am here for the force lesson you advertised, I wish to partake in this lesson to expand my knowledge". Though most likely not necessary she was once again dressed in her combat formal suit, tie and all, her three light sabers clasped on the young woman's utility belt.

Doug was usually not one that went to other Jedi for learning things. He was... Fickle around people he didn't really know. His Master Josh had usually kept up with teaching him most of the important stuff that a Padawan should know... And that one time a fellow Padawan showed him how to deal with varying types of weaponry for defensive purposes. However, what he had seen from a message from a... Jairdain was that these techniques, Force Barrier and... "Tutaminis", a word that made him chuckle to himself a bit, were being taught and were apparently not very common nowadays. Perhaps that was why he had not heard much about them.

The Padawan was admittedly intrigued so he figured he would stop by and see if he could get the ropes of what was being taught. He wandered around the temple until he found the room that this lesson was being taught in. When he had finally arrived, it seems that someone else had shown up for the lesson as well... Someone he did not recognize. He eyes glanced around, but he figured he should make with a greeting. "Mmm... Greetings, Jedi Knight Jairdain. I am also here for the lesson you had advertised." He spoke in an almost monotone tone of voice, then bowing in a formal manner.

This felt kinda strange to him, but he knew there shouldn't be anything to worry about. He then waited to see if anyone else would show up or for Jairdain to speak.

Kaiza Pawaro

Do, or do not. There is no try.
Raven black hair peeked in through the door, soon revealing a tightly kept Padawan braid that dangled left and right in a carefree fashion. Yellow-hued forehead and vibrant green eyes appeared next, alongside lightly tattooed cheeks. Finally, the robed figure stepped inside after ensuring this was the right room. A relieved sigh escaped her lips as she paced closer to the gathering of Jedi – Kaiza’s fellow students undoubtedly desired to learn the defensive abilities as well. Truth to be told, she had expected a bigger attendance. Perhaps more would show up later – the abilities they were about to learn belonged among the most useful techniques any Jedi could learn. Of course Kaiza had to attend.

“I hope I’m not late!” The young Padawan said softly and grinned, casting her warm, emerald gaze over others in the room. Two faces were somewhat familiar, one completely unknown and also sporting an unusual set of attire. It made Kaiza wonder if she should change her wardrobe a bit and add something fancy instead of going through sets of comfortable, yet sturdy and plain clothes usually seen on farmhands. No use pondering about it now though – she was there to learn more about Force shield and Tutaminis. The former was already known to her, one of the Padawan’s more developed abilities, tried and tested on the battlefield as well, albeit not thoroughly. On the other hand, the latter power presented a big unknown, but she was eager to learn the arts of absorbing hostile energies cast her way.

“I'm Padawan Pawaro, pleasure to meet you.”

It was then since his return from spending some time off on his own Ronin figured it is time to brush up on his other skill. Of which while scanning the board from whatever new classes had been currently offered at that time. Skimming thru the one no less came to catch his attention and though he noted it would no less have begun he figured to drop by no less. Walking down the halls he did get a few glance over and greeting by some those he passed by with some knew him passingly. Having worked quite a bit down at the hangar bay some passingly ask him for aid with their ship or just to chat a bit.

Coming to head off down the hall towards the appointed room which was noted as to where it was going be heald. Ronin slowly walk in glance about and note others that were already there. To which with a nod to both and greetings he then turns to face Jairdain whom with a nod as well. As he then spoke as he wished to keep their connection....private and neutral in front of the new strangers for now.And keep things as if they were just mere acquaintances or friends at best in front of them.

"Greetings, I heard class was going be held here and figured drop by sign up....."

There was a class taking place today, or so she had heard. Faye could already see a group gathering, but she hovered towards the back. She didn’t even know what this was all about, this Tutaminis or whatever it was called. Well, it was worth a shot, right? After all, she was here to learn.

Still new to the Temple and Jedi life, she was still getting accustomed to everything. It was odd, but it was very interesting. It truly was curiosity that kept Faye here on Voss. It was still quite foreign for her to tap into this unseen force. The teen wasn’t exactly sure she fit in here at the Temple, especially given that she did not truly desire to be a Jedi. Or at least she didn’t think so.

As she approached, she made note of their instructor – an elegant woman. Faye offered her a bow before moving to join the rest of the students. She recognized the Mirialan girl from saber class and immediately went to stand next to her. Curious eyes roamed the rest of the students, but fixated for a moment on the ginger-kid and his crop of curly hair.

“Hi,” She whispered to Kaiza, and offered a small smile.

Faye was interested to see what this class was about to offer and try her own hand. She only hoped that she wasn’t diving in over her head…

When Sky'ito entered the room, Jairdain stopped her pacing and gave a simple nod at her words. A moment later, Douglas entered and said he was here for the lesson as well.

"I'm going to give another few minutes before I begin the lesson. This way I'm not repeating much information. Please, find a spot to stand."

Making a broad motion around the room, she fell silent again as she thought of the wording she was going to use to begin the lesson. Turning back to the door when Kaiza entered, Jairdain shook her head.

"You're not late. Just giving people a few more minutes before I begin actually. It is nice to meet you all."

She felt Ronin approaching before he even entered the room and gave him a warm smile when he did. The next person that entered, didn't speak to her at all, but did offer a bow and moved to join the others.

"I am Knight Jairdain, please just call me Jera or Jairdain. Now the purpose of this class is for you to learn how to block attacks with the Force through either a barrier or through Tutaminis."

Being blind, she wasn't sure what her barrier looked like, but in her mind, she saw a bubble around herself that kept her protected. Opening herself to the Force and allowing it to flow, she showed them what her barrier looked like. When it dissipated, she walked over to where a blaster was and picked it up. Handing it to one of the aides, she walked to the other side of the room.

"Please shoot at me with the blaster."

The sound of the blaster going off filled the room and her hand came up to intercept the blast in the blink of an eye. Nodding to the aide, he set the blaster back down on the table where they rested.

Sukai gave a small confining nod to the lesson instructor before moving to the side, allowing for her to greet and welcome the other students attending today lesson. The first student gave her a look, maybe wondering about her attire, which to be fair was very unusual, especially combined with a flack jacket, a not to subtle dark force signature and three light-sabers hanging from her belt, one clearly that of a Sith. She was almost a polar opposite of [member="Douglas Starwind"], his white clothing, bright orange hair and definite light side force signature.

The others that came though where not of too much interest to Sukai, one was [member="Kaiza Pawaro"], whom she recognized from several operation which they both participated in. The other two where new, the woman was unfamiliar but the man, seemed to be someone of importance, perhaps she had heard their name before once or twice, but other that that he was just as much a mystery as the woman. With introduction out of the way Sukai put her concentration back onto the lesson at hand, eager to see a demonstration of the ability in practice, which [member="Jairdain"] seemed to already have in mind, having one of the aides shoot a live round at her.

It seemed a bit reckless, but then again the best way to test something was simulate the real thing, though a stun blaster might have been safer, Sukai could see the practical implication of showing its power in a more practical sense, so long as no one got hurt. "Might I ask what the specific difference there is between Force Barriers and Tutaminis"?

Viathae Qarmast

Mandalorian Exile Jedi of Clan Qarmast
To always seek out skills from other warriors, it is a Mandalorian's duty to respond to training. Even if Viathae was pretty much a master at blocking, there was always a way to block more effectively, especially with a lightsaber. Viathae though, wanted to also help teach other as she had a blaster that was set to stun, but have something that can make it feel quite real. If anything, she wanted to atleast gain some experience in training a person in the ways of defense. As they always said, and infact, what she always says, "Defense is the key to victory."

To Viathae, this might not be so hard to do, as it's one thing to teach, but another to actually learning it. But she does not know if her rather... sort of unorthodox training might be enough to help them learn on how to defend themselves from blaster fire. As a Mandalorian, she learned it the hard way, and had live rounds come at her. Hmm...

Viathae arrived and gave a nod at Jair. "Jairdin." she said to her and glanced over at other trainees.

Douglas Starwind

Head of Fire, Heart of Gold
Doug crossed his arms and went a bit silent after the brief introduction. He doesn't even think he actually mentioned his own name. Something about the company in the room was making him feel a bit... Awkward. He had a feeling people were staring at him. His bright eyes darted around the room and he believed he actually caught a glimpse of a girl, Faye Demos, looking at him. It seemed his near-paranoid thoughts had a sense of truth to them and he blushed a bit. He did not recognize her so that just made it all the odder to him. Perhaps such unfamiliarity was the reason...

He saw that Ronin entered the room as well, but he did not make much of a presence for himself outside of a brief introduction... Similar to himself he guessed.

He shook his head. He needed to keep a grip on himself. It was just a training exercise and he knew he needed to get out there more. These were allies after all... Well, this other girl, Sukai, with the jacket, a bit of an ominous presence to her, and the three lightsabers looked kinda shady to him, but she was one of them... He was pretty sure anyways. With his spiraling thoughts out of the way, he noticed that Jairdain had actually begun with a demonstration of what they would be trying to learn.

He saw as Jairdain created a sort of... Bubble around her for lack of a better term. It emanated with the Force and he could see the usefulness of such a barrier. He then watched as some assistant fired a Blaster shot at her and she was able to stop it with... Just her hand. His eyes widened and he looked impressed. Such a simple motion, but with an impressive result. So this was... Tutaminis... Heh. Heh. The name still amused him a bit.

He glanced over as the shady looking girl asked a question regarding the differences. He supposed she meant in a more practical sense of how they're used so he could understand the merit of the question. He scratched his chin and then waited for Jairdain answer her as someone else entered the room... Viathae. Another woman he did not recognize, but seemed to know Jairdain given that she addressed her in a more casual way.

[member="Jairdain"] [member="Sky'ito Yumi"] [member="Kaiza Pawaro"] [member="Faye Demos"] [member="Ronin Wendigo"]

Looking in the direction of [member="Sky'ito Yumi"] as she asked her question, Jairdain paused before answering as [member="Viathae Qarmast"] entered the room at that point. Giving her a welcoming smile and motioning to the others in the room.

"Nice of you to be able to join, Vaithae. You missed the demonstration, but I'll do it again before the lesson is over and give you all the opportunity to practice."

Jairdain would appear to look at each of them in turn as she spoke answering the question posed.

"There are a few differences between the barrier and Tutaminis. A barrier you can place on yourself or another person. Allow me to show you. Tutaminis is only good on yourself."

If consent was given, she would place a barrier around the head of Sky.

"Control, you must have that to be able to perform Tutaminis. Control of yourself. You can either take the energy of the attack and absorb it or deflect it. As you progress, you may even be able to absorb strikes and hit from a lightsaber."

She paced in front of the others as she spoke. With the wave of a hand, a display was brought up with the differences between the two written out for them to read themselves. Though Jairdain did answer the question as well.

"The barrier can be used as both a defensive measure or offence. I need a volunteer please."

It was then after the brief greeting to the other present and a more private personal one address to Jairdain for whom he held. A closer connection of kinship he then steps back and stays on the sideline silent for the most part in the beginning. Keeping watch as well take in much that was being said as he took in what he could of the class. Thought soon after when she called to ask for a volunteer. He figured raise a hand and speak.

"Well, I'll volunteer...."

Kaiza Pawaro

Do, or do not. There is no try.
The room started to fill, indicating the subject presented something many were interested in learning. Kaiza understood that – knowing how to summon a barrier in particular belonged among those crucial skills that often meant the difference between life and death. Watchful gaze carefully observed the new arrivals, happy to recognize the familiar face of Faye. The two have attended another class together and it wasn’t hard to figure out the young duo got along quite well. Giving the olive-skinned student a toothy smile, Kaiza leaned closer to her buddy, voice a soft whisper.

“Hi! How’s your training going? Everything OK?”

A somewhat fresh student as well, the yellow-skinned Mirialan felt a certain degree of connection to Faye. She reminded the raven-haired Padawan of herself when she first joined the Jedi, completely clueless, yet eager to get started and save the galaxy! While time had shaped the former farmgirl into who she was today, helping another Jedi get settled in the Order presented one of the more pleasant duties young Jedi had to deal with. If nothing else, it offered Kaiza a new friend – and Fate knows she needed those. The war kept claiming lives, and the only fear greater than losing her friends was being left alone.

Shifting attention back to the teacher, the young Padawan re-focused on the lesson, brow furrowed. Not merely passively observing the power of Force barrier through her emerald-coloured eyes, but expanding her senses through the Force to witness the barrier’s creation in an entirely new light. Just as the shimmering shield visually established itself around the instructor, something similar happened in the Force; a wall of energy rose around Jairdain’s signature and Kaiza’s own presence bounced off upon attempting to mentally touch it. Quite interesting, not nearly as much as seeing the barrier in action with her own eyes though.

She winced when the blaster went off. The Padawan wasn’t a fan of live fire within classes, a fact fully reflected by her reaction. Fortunately, the teacher’s barrier turned out strong enough to stop the blaster bolt from biting into her body. It served as a reminder to the Mirialan that she had never actually attempted this – to block blaster fire with the Force. Lightsabers offered a much better, safer alternative and there was no reason to change that unless absolutely necessary.

Gloved hand almost went up, showing the confidence Kaiza had in herself. Alas, Ronin’s reactions proved faster, and thus the Mirialan Jedi moved ever so slightly closer to Faye while cautiously observing the demonstration.

“I didn’t know it was possible to absorb a hit from a lightsaber.” Kaiza muttered into the girl’s ear, clearly surprised by the information.

As the ginger-kid’s eyes met Faye’s for a brief moment, her gaze darted away quickly. He’d caught her staring… Oops. Faye hoped that he hadn’t thought she was being rude. She was thankful when Kaiza turned to address her. “It’s going… okay, I think.” Faye shrugged, but smiled. It was nice to have a familiar face here today. And she hoped very much that Kaiza would continue to be an example for her to follow, just as she had done in the saber class.

Turning her attention to the front of the class, she offered Jairdain a respectful nod as she made her introduction. Her hand rose to cradle her chin for a moment, the concept of blocking attacks with the force was of interest. But at the same time, it felt like something she couldn’t quite wrap her mind around.

Faye let her mouth fall agape when Jairdain instructed one of her aides to shoot at her with a blaster.

“Oh, golly.” She whispered to herself, watching curiously.

The demonstration was quick but effective. It almost made the skill look easy, but Faye was learning fast that these things were not so easy. At least, they weren’t for her. By now, there were a few more students gathered around to watch and listen. A dark-haired girl spoke up with a question, a very good one, too. Faye took some mental notes as she listened to the answer provided by Jairdain.

“Wow, it must take a lot of practice to get to that point…” she replied to Kaiza, commenting about the ability to block a lightsaber. And her eyes shifted to the hand that was raised in the air by a man, a volunteer for Jairdain’s next demonstration.

Well, this was bound to be interesting.

Sukai gave, a nod nod [member="Jairdain"] as her request, "I do not mind". She stood still as the barrier was cast over her, it seemed to be almost invisible, but had a distant feeling of being enveloped by a screen of glass, or a bubble, something that no doubt would be useful for more than defines. 'Control, over one’s body and mind, sounds like such a skill would take a while to master... but I have all the time in the world for that'.

She returned her attention back to the lesson as Jairdain went about explaining more uses for the skill, even mentioning the ability to block light sabres, something she could have used a few years ago with the whole eye fiasco. When the teacher asked for a volunteer Sukai was about to raise her hand before the older men voiced his own desire, best she not get greedy with the demonstrations, though what Jairdian would do next intrigued her.

Douglas Starwind

Head of Fire, Heart of Gold
Doug stood there quietly. There wasn't much to be said at the moment. The girl that stared at him for reasons he was not certain about had struck up a quiet conversation with the Mirialan girl... Kaiza. He believed he finally caught the name. He had seen her around a dozen times at this point. He remained uncertain about what that was about, but it wasn't something he should worry about... Probably.

He then watched as Jairdain would offer an answer to the shady girl about the difference between the two skills they were being taught about. The barrier was something that could be used to protect others as well as for offensive purposes while Tutaminis was strictly a defensive measure for oneself... It required control and focus, as expected of Force techniques. He hoped he would be able to get the basics of these techniques down so he could practice with them in a more practical sense at another time. With enough time and persistence, perhaps he could reach this level where he could actually deflect lightsaber strikes with his hands... It would come in handy in a more dire situation.

When Jairdain had asked for volunteers, he almost raised his hand to speak, but the only other gentleman in the room had spoken before him. It looked like he would have to wait a bit before he could volunteer for something. He lowered his hand and resumed his cross-armed stance, waiting to see what the next little demonstration would be. He was as quiet as ever and as focused as ever on the lesson.

Of all the people in the room, Ronin was the one that spoke up first to volunteer. If she had her choice, she would have picked him over the others.

Nodding at him, Jairdain motioned for him to join her in front of the other students. They were of almost the same height, but he was a little heavier than she was. Having met a few years ago and established a relationship, it had flourished and become something for more than simple comrades now. They were bonded by blood and more like sister and brother than anything else. He and she trusted each other fully and knew neither one would hurt the other. If push came to shove, they would have the other's back in a heartbeat.

"Now I am not going to hurt Ronin at all in this brief demonstration. There are going to be two things happening to him and I will employ the use of the barrier and one additional Force skill. However, I will NOT be teaching that second skill in this lesson. If you wish to know what it is, it is called Cryokinesis and Master [member="Jessica Med-Beq"] I'm sure would be more than happy to pass it on to all of you.
"What I am going to do is place a barrier around his head and essentially kill the air. Watch."

They feel through the Force if they could that she used it to place that barrier around him. A sphere would appear and her second action employed the slowing down of the air molecules within that sphere. Jairdain had used this on the battlefield of Mirial against her opponent Kaalia to a certain degree of success. In the classroom, there were no other distractions and she was able to show it off fully.

She knew the extent of her ability and knew how much air she could kill and still keep Ronin alive. Once the bubble became full of crystalized moisture and she was positive the class got the message, Jairdain let go of her focus. Both the bubble and ice dissipated and a slightly damp headed Ronin stood there.

Giving his hand a gentle squeeze, she gave him a smile and waited to make sure he was okay before continuing with the class.

[member="Jairdain"] | [member="Faye Demos"] | [member="Douglas Starwind"] | [member="Sky'ito Yumi"] |[member="Kaiza Pawaro"]
It was then after all was said and done that despite all the chatter in the room after the initial demonstration was done. That Ronin seem without hesitation nor forewarning knowledge of what was to be expected next when she called out for a volunteer. Raised a hand before most the other than were either tempted to or interested did and she in turn without batting an eyelash. Turn towards his direction and with a nod motion him forward in front of the class which he complied. Passing one or two of the other Apprentices along the way that even without words he sense seem all too eager to have volunteered themselves. But if push came to shove in regards to what she intended to demonstrate next he figured she herself would have it no other way. Given that without most those present knowledge as the two them stood side by side in front of the class. Given the bond the two them shared since recently that no matter what. He as much as she had each other back......thru thick or thin. To which end he with a slight smirk. Passingly reached out to her silently and in faint coy tone egged her on as much as a brother would. Which they were in a sense despite their obvious difference in more way that one at which time he then asked in thought.

You think or sure about this? At any rate hope, the class is ready for the next demo.

Standing just about the same height though he seems to have a bit of an advantage over her as Ronin was built a tad bit heftier or heavier than she. Having seen his share of battles and living the harsh life that he had it almost seem outwardly Ronin might appear to have a bit of an advantage over her and yet. That, for the most part, was all for show and having placed complete trust in her he stood by her as she spoke to the class.

"Now I am not going to hurt Ronin at all in this brief demonstration. There are going to be two things happening to him and I will employ the use of the barrier and one additional Force skill. However, I will NOT be teaching that second skill in this lesson. If you wish to know what it is, it is called Cryokinesis and Master Jessica Med-Beq I'm sure would be more than happy to pass it on to all of you.

What I am going to do is place a barrier around his head and essentially kill the air. Watch."

To which end with great care he did his best to prepare himself for what was to come as suddenly a strange barrier came to hover then form over his head. Which seem not to bother him so that is until she employed a secondary attack wherein Jairdain appeared to have had slow down the air molecules in the sphere. Which in turn thin out the air within the sphere and cause him to slightly gasp a bit having been taken back by the attack. At the same time seem to expose to her one the few flawed weakness he had given his Kashi heritage that if it were not her could exploit to do him harm. Yet given it was her and she of all knew him well enough in a more deeper level than most knew well within the extent of her ability. How much she could push things to make the demonstration work and yet not push it too far that it could either kill or do him permanent harm.

At any rate, seem thought he held on as best he could without giving or losing sight of holding his control of himself. As later on came to fall one knee beside her that proved to drive the point those present in the class. That she let go of her focuse and release him from the attack dissipating the bubble along with the ice crystal that formed. Which in turn change into consideration that fell to slightly dampen his head as he slowly began to steady himself. Holding back the shadows as he feeling her hand gently squeeze his as he gave him a smile standing by his side for the time being. As she stood by him quietly aid him to hold on to balance himself out and make sure he was okay before continuing on the class.

To which end once he had steady himself and gotten right back up onto his feet turn to face her. A faint smirk came over his face as he secretly nudges her with a brief word.

Guess guess it'll remind me to be thankful that you're on my side and remind me not to get on your bad side anytime soon eh?

He had been late to the lesson. His schedule of course made getting from place to place, appointment to appointment, quite difficult. Regardless, he had appeared in time to when the demonstration would be done, and would quietly file in with the rest of the class. And by quietly, I mean completely disappeared using the White Current as he stepped into the class, only re-appearing when he was already seated with the others. It would be as though he had been there from the start. And perhaps people that hadn't seen him before would wonder, had he been there the whole time?

He would watch the demonstration, watching carefully, observant as he was... He watched the barrier be brought up, and how she seemed to moderate it. The Master would slowly nod his head, and a small smile crossed his lips in pride at how the former Sith was taking to [member="Valae Kitra"]'s suggestions to teach and to heal. He was glad, of course, that she had decided to take her advice... And she seemed to even be a bit healthier to boot, just by it. She had asked him if helping him would help her... He had told her he could not answer that as he did not know, and she'd have to find out on her own.

The healthier look on her face said she had begun to find her answer.

I don't think we will ever be on the wrong side of each other, brother.

With one final squeeze of his hand, Jairdain let go of him after he regained his feet. Giving Ronin a nod and motioning for him to return to where he had come from with the others.

"Are there any further questions?"

If there weren't, she would continue with her lesson.

"The Force Barrier is usually only active for a few hits before it looses it's strength and dissipates. As you are just learning this, it's probably going to cost you more of your Force reserves at first. The more you practice though, it'll be easier and you will be able to adjust your Force usage to compensate."

Pausing for a moment, the knight placed her hands behind her back. In that moment, it would appear she looked at each of them. In a way she did, but not physically of course. Noticing Josh had joined in, her mouth turned up in a small half smile and nod to him.

"Another large difference to keep in mind between the barrier and Tutaminis is a barrier can work as a defense against almost anything. As long as it isn't something like a thermal detonator. Even then, if you're strong enough that barrier might prevent you from getting too seriously harmed. Tutamins in ONLY good against energy attacks."
