Discussion Be the change - A new faction perhaps?

For a big canon faction like The Jedi that's a very tall order.

Let's carry the two:
  • Graphics & Factory/Codex: Charisma
  • Staff Core: Charisma, Post Like Hell, & Don't Flake
  • Minimum of 5 Writers: Charisma + Post Like Hell

Some of that, like the "drip" you don't need. If you want pretty things, it can be outsourced. A lot of community members will try and help out with art when asked, including myself. But otherwise...Yes. It can be a chunky order. You can also use Canon items and not utilize Factory or Codex at all if that's not your vibe.

Usually factions start with a handful of people, even two or three, jumping on a theme and creating threads. It does take someone solid to be MFO. People will gravitate toward where the writing is currently happening. That's why places like THR generate so much hype because that is where the writing is being freely offered.

I know I can make a Jedi, Sith, Mando, Noble, Merchant, Criminal, Etc and jump right in to ANY of the current majors in some way. I know there will be threads available, and as a member, I don't even have to do the heavy lifting. I just gotta show up. The concepts for a Major DO need to be relatable to some degree unless you have someone really pushing it. Niche things like Chiss Factions have a harder time, but factions like the Brynadul are very rare. They were a monsters/aliens only faction that did very well, but their MFO gave everything he had to running it.

It takes dedication and time...Which is why I say if it's not your passion? Don't do it. That's not to discourage you or anyone else...More majors, more better. If you're dissatisfied with what's available, try your own concept. You don't even need to go major right away OR at all. Darkwire (slicer faction) was most successful before they went major. There are a lot of ways to go about it, and some that haven't even been brought up. This is just idea farming...Not an exhaustive list.

Okay so we need about 8 Jedi master one which gets a hard on for factory and codex stuff and another who can make drip. Former faction staff experience is a plus.

Eight haha? Noo...I don't think you need that many right out of the gate, but you can build toward that. I'd start with a concept and opening the doors first as a minor faction, and then try recruiting for roles you need to flesh it out. Again, Factory and Codex aren't a requirement...You can 100% use Canon stuff.

Edit: Annnnd I get the joke now, Kentarch, you know exactly how it works lol. I didn't realize it was you xD

Being dead serious. We need to shoot high. I need the boys in blue. Not off brands.

I'm not 100% what this means, but I'm fairly certain it's slamming an existing Major for their Jedi not being Jedi enough. How about you suggest it without calling people "off brands" and be part of the solution?

You know people hate that, and it's an extreme turn-off from anyone who would WANT to participate. If you want a streamlined, no-nonsense Jedi faction, the truth still stands. Make one. There is PLENTY of room on the map. We have two Mandos and two Sith. There is room for everyone...But if you want to try your hand at MFO, firestarting is not the foot you want to start on.

thought he was talkin bout the jumpout boys and I was like hey that's me.

Art is easy nowadays, just slap a bunch of shit into an AI art generator like everyone else, drip is no longer exclusive to those who can wield photoshop and lightroom. In fact, everyone's avatar on this page is AI generated except mine (cause it's my handsome hiking picture). Art and drip is more accessible than ever, and I think even people outside your faction will help out enough, or there is enough tools out there to make it happen. But also I turned off divs so I don't even particularly get bothered by that anymore

Dealing with MFO stuff... that's a whole other business of "who wants to do that part". I think most people, generally, are weary of being MFO because of very public falls from grace and issues and a little bit of intrusiveness into their lives OOC. You have to have a certain amount of time on your hands and a certain agreeableness, and also, more importantly, put yourself to be judged by the powers-that-be on Chaos to be allowed to be a MFO. I think that's probably one of the biggest hurdles towards Major Factions atm, is that there is, and will continue to be, a somewhat reasonable apprehension to being one. Speaking from my now-real-life-responsibilities, being in charge sometimes kinda sucks and takes away the fun a little. Phone calls, problems, issues, hassles, whatever. That can weigh on you and drain you.

Can most people do it? Probably, it's a forum and a discord, not a 19th century warship. Wanting to, is different than can.

edit:

Immediately posting this, I realized that some people might construe this as "MFO are dorks etc etc". That's not what I'm saying, I'm saying MFO staff/owners are more willing to put up with stuff that isn't awesome and fun and cool than most people, that's all.

I don't think you came off badly at all fam it made sense.

I don't disagree here either. We look at every aspect of new Major applications carefully, both to ensure they meet the criteria, but also, and perhaps most importantly, at the MFO and Admin Team. Someone who has a documented history of issues will find it more difficult than someone with a clean record. This is because being an MFO sets the tone for the entire faction. If the MFO is caustic with consistent difficulty dealing with others, that's not likely a good fit. If it seems as though small issues swiftly overwhelm, if there are dozens of reports, yeah...It's tough.

That being said, we do TRY to give everyone a fair shake. It's not always a perfect system (few are on chaos) - But these decisions are always made with the betterment of the community as a whole.

For the lurkers - I know one of you have had an idea in the back of your mind. I beg, nay, challenge you to make that idea a reality.

Shit I've been called out-

Aliens. Big external alien threat. Something off the norm to spice up the usual plots. I'm surprised after all this time with the map expansion and all the other galaxies this hasn't come up yet. That'd maybe get my attention to start posting again.
